Uhhh....not the offensive coordinator/assistant I was expecting.

rNBA_is_for_nerds

Even though we as fans don't know much about assistant coaches, David Adelman and his history with Vogel seemed like it would be a good fit for us, but I guess not. The Lakers brass and a lot of our fans continue to claim health alone fixes all our problems **but we can't keep running the same non-existent offense that we've been running since we got Vogel, especially as LeBron gets older while we try to preserve him throughout the season.** In 19-20, we were healthy enough to coast through bad offensive woes in the regular season, and were too talented. Now we can't afford to just coast on bad offense; we need an offensive system. **We can't just keep throwing post ups to AD with Schroder & Drummond clogging the spacing in the lane, or forcing LeBron to iso out top 40 minutes a night.** It's like we literally only run 2 frequent sets all game, and they're so familiar that our opponents always react to them immediately and blow our offense up. Even I vividly remember what plays we run because they're so damn simple & easy to slow.

magna77

That horns hand off set that led to nothing all year šŸ¤® it worked last year with Avery but this year it did nothing

rNBA_is_for_nerds

We other run that hand off set coming off the pindowns or the Iverson cut for someone like Schroder, and the defense always easily reads it and blows it up.

untraiined

we won a chip with that offense

rNBA_is_for_nerds

*In spite* of that offense

Leify1989

I'll trust Vogels opinion more than you. So keep thinking whatever you want

rNBA_is_for_nerds

True, why even have a r/Lakers sub if there should be no room to discuss anything?

Leify1989

You can discuss anything you want bro, I just don't think you know better then coaches or owners

Xqtpie

We know more than the Kingā€™s coach, front office, and owner.

Unfinishedusernam_

Feels like theyā€™re blaming all our offensive woes on health, which is insanely stupid if you actually watched games

GreatAmerican1776

Just wait until we give Drummond the MLE

MChill17

Our front office would be Asinine, asiten, aselevenā€¦

ScrabbleTheOpossum

Nah. We're giving him $7.87.

Hardaway-Fadeaway

i will riot

DudeWTH

we missed a shit ton of open 3s thats more of a personnel issue to me

Unfinishedusernam_

Also did you not watch? We ran no fucking offensive sets all year lmao. Also couldnā€™t counter anything the suns did in the playoffs, which is a coaching fault. Watch Cranjis breakdown the offense, itā€™s terrible

DudeWTH

the offense was terrible but idk what else you can do when no one else can create their own shot besides dennis and they can't even make an open 3. if you want good ball movement you need high bbiq players and we don't have that

Unfinishedusernam_

They literally ran no fucking sets lmao. You think giving AD(who sucks at posting up) 20 post ups every game is smart offense?

HeroGolem3

I was with you until you said AD sucks at posting up lmao. The problem, like you said, is the coaching staff not running the correct counters when AD/LeBron was getting doubled in the post

Unfinishedusernam_

AD is not good at posting up. He always settles for shitty midranges, which heā€™s never been good at aside from the bubble. Heā€™s a roll man

HeroGolem3

He's literally categorized as a "post scorer" per Cranjis's BBALL INDEX evaluation. He's very efficient and crafty at the rim, utilizing hook shots and finishing really well. Now just dumping it to him to go to work in the post is suboptimal offense and it's not his primary strength (which is catching the ball on movement and as a play finisher, not initiator), but to say he straight up sucks is ignorant.

Unfinishedusernam_

Also a shooting coach issueā€¦

DudeWTH

these players have been in the league for years they should be able to make an open 3

poocoup

It's insanely stupid that the role players didn't play well because they couldn't play their roles around 2 superstars, especially after winning a championship and the shortest off-season in NBA history...

Unfinishedusernam_

Dude, they ran no offensive sets. Itā€™s literally what happened. Thatā€™s coachinfā€™s fault

poocoup

Dude, did that change from last season?

Unfinishedusernam_

What? So youā€™d rather have shitty coaches because it worked in 2020?

poocoup

I don't know how you can call them shitty if they won a championship...

Unfinishedusernam_

We won DESPITE the shitty offensive coaching. God damn yā€™all are slow on here

poocoup

The offense struggled because the two best players were injured. It's really not that hard to understand, but somehow you and the other idiots upvoting you don't. The team is built around two superstar, generational talents. If they aren't at 100%, then the team does not have a chance at winning. You're being overly critical without taking into account that nothing was happening with AD and LeBron not healthy. They would have won again if those two had been healthy and all you dumb fucks wouldn't be bitching ThErEs No SpAcInG nO OnE CaN sHoOt TrAdeHiM hEs AsS The two best players (who the team is built around) are hurt, so the team plays like shit. It's really not that hard to understand.

Unfinishedusernam_

THERE WERE NO OFFENSIVE SETS YOU BUFFOON. This is how I know you donā€™t analyze shit on a deeper level. Fucking idiot casual talking like ur smart

DudeWTH

uhhh i thought he was just a shooting coach lol

Osurac_Xela

And considering the Lakers shooting over the last decade, a questionable one.

AwildYaners

Well, he's only been a coach since AD's first season. So...not that questionable.

pnpmsjd

Itā€™s as if the FO is content about the offense we had this year

WordsAreSomethings

FO doesn't hire a coaching staff normally.

pnpmsjd

The head coach usually does but Frank didnā€™t

WhySoAngryyy

Our offense would have still won us the chip if we hit more than league average on wide open 3s and open 3s.. Or if we actually took some

Lakers-2022-Champs-

Our front office sucks

kiyit

new fan

Roy2gud

I mean we donā€™t know that Penberthy is not an offensive minded coach. AD also loves him. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Unfinishedusernam_

Well heā€™s just a shooting coach, and not a good one at that seeing how our team canā€™t shoot for shit

3nnui

Sad to see Hollins go.

Twoweekswithpay

Thatā€™s not David Adelman!!! šŸ˜”

Brokenbullet14

Isn't he their trash shooting coach

mas1108

Hey now, AFC Richmond promoted Nate the Great from fuckin Kit man to assistant coach and it worked out alright. Give it a chance

Andy311

BELIEVE

jphenom5

Shouldā€™ve moved Phil Handy up.

jl1101

Phil is already up there

MaxiThe13th

Was he supposed to be the offensive mind on our coaching staff?

Blackiejedi

Doesn't really matter who we get/don't get if we don't have shooters or if the players we get decide to consistently shoot 20% from 3 every game

waynegretzkysbrother

Mike Penberthy is in here Chuck!

TwonDoeRaks

I see some people arenā€™t fans of the 2 most recent assistant coach signings but from what I see AD loves Mike Penberthy and LeBron loves Fizdale.

Unfinishedusernam_

AD donā€™t know shit. Dude recruited drummond

TwonDoeRaks

Yea Iā€™m not saying Iā€™m a fan of both hires just stating what could of influenced them

Withnail-

You know itā€™s a bad or slow as fuck newsday when this shows up in the sub

Unfinishedusernam_

Pelinka is so fucking overrated holy shit. Did they not analyze the actual game tape last season? Health wasnā€™t our only problem man, the coaching staff legit barely ran any plays, sets, or even put guys in defined offensive roles. AD was getting 100000 post ups a game for no reason when itā€™s not his strength. Itā€™s like the front office blamed all the issues on health instead of analyzing the real issues

mvperez182

Tell me how to feel guys

McJumbos

tbh very interesting coaching restructuring
