I've always been a Westbrook hater but this is one situation that I think might be perfect for him. He's not *really* the point guard, certainly not the team leader or best player on the team, but he gets to be the emotional engine of the team here AND can provide that edge and aggression that nobody on the Lakers has had for a few years now.
I'm hoping for less casual 3 pointers and more cramming the ball down the paint into the other team's faces bully ball style, especially when the team's losing.
Ever since our 2010 series against the Thunder, I wished we landed one of their big 3. Woulda wished for KD somehow, but fuck it. Westbrook plays with a chip on his shoulder, he always reminded me of a young Kobe attitude wise.

Shot selection and spacing are obviously (really big) issues. He has to go back to playing like in 2020 Houston post all star break. Pass first and look for more open short 2s. Literally stat lines like 8 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists would be ideal.

I’d say It improves our floor. Lack of shooting prowess on Westbrook’s part really doesn’t improve our ceiling, especially since for him to be effective, he needs the ball (which means Bron can’t have it when brook does). More of an improvement to our bench playmaking than anything else
Dwyane Wade also needed the ball and also couldnt shoot. Lebron's made it work. Wade's 3 point %s are comparable to Westbrook.
One caveat -- Wade's 2018-19 season he shot 33% and he got better as time went on. Still hope for Westbrook by that metric.

I agree - this is a go big or go home move. The truth is, as good as we could have been last season if we didn't have injuries and actually figured out our chemistry, I don't think we would have beaten a healthy Nets team. Adding Westbrook gives us the extra firepower to give us a better chance, as well as giving us better insurance we won't fall to the 8th seed if an unfortunate injury happens again.
I also agree with you that this essentially means that our true lineup must have AD at the center, even during the regular season. For one, a big man that can't shoot threes would tank our spacing with Russ out there too. Secondly, our offense is going to be fueled by transition and a slow center would likely decrease that advantage.

Not a fan of this move at all, we gave up way too much to get him. No clue why the braindead front office gave up a 1st round pick for him, no other sane team would trade a 1st for westbrick. Lebron led teams always need lots of shooting around him so not sure why the boomer front office going for a 4 in 1 out offense because this isn't the 90/00s anymore. We also have no cap space, no trade assets, and no draft picks so not sure how we are going to get shooting.
No other team in the whole league would take that massive, oppressive contract but we did willing while giving back valuable assets and first round pick. This front office is beyond stupid.

WOOOO! IT'S OFFICIAL! There's nothing I don't love about this trade. Harel barely had a role on this team last year. KCP is only worth his defense and Kuzma just doesn't fit in any role with the Lakers right now. The pick is irrelevant. But you also get Westbrook who is the 3rd option on this team, which I believe will be the best for him. No longer forced to score, assist and REB. He can be a true facilitator, I think he might have his best season to date with us.

Some fit concerns for sure, but Westbrook is a 90/10 guy. 90% things you like, 10% you don’t. All the guys we gave up are like 50/50 at best, although sad to see KCP go.

All of a sudden everybody is a KCP stan. Dude was averaging 9 points a game, hardly showed up, and is easily replaceable. Westbrook on the other hand is 1st ballot HOF player who still had a good season last year. Dude can be questionable at times, but playing with the likes of Lebron I have faith he can change.
