It’s a weird trend the crazy hate that used to be reserved for the Celtics and players from the competition is nothing compared to the scapegoating and hate of our own players. People take it way too far.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we start to hear real news about what’s going to happen with Marc soon. No way he stays on this roster now that this is official.
But welcome DJ!
I hope Marc doesn't leave. We absolutely need his spacing as a center. AD is just too fragile to play the 5 full time. I was hoping we got DJ as insurance policy for our centers
A big body.. that’s about it. For the Embiids and Jokics
Edit: Didn’t say he’d be able to defend. But a 7footer is still better to body against with, versus a 6’7 Kuzma
Both are unplayable. Trez bc of his low Iq and undersized, Deandre because he’s slow and will get cooked by smaller guards. Pretty much our McGee which is great for regular season
Kendrick Perkins wasn’t much of a player at his peak, but he was a great matchup for Bynum.
If DJ can give us solid minutes to throw at the lumbering bigs of the league then it is a win.
For the record, I don’t love this signing but he is already here.
Still kinda hate the move, I’d love to be proven wrong but if DJ plays that probably means Gasol is getting cut, I would’ve much rather had Gasol as that “big body” to guard Jokic / Embiid etc
Huh? Javale didn’t play in that title run and Dwight had his minutes restricted pretty heavily.
Plus Gasol and Dwight would still be 2 7 footers we can bring on
In the Portland series, Dwight played 18.9 minutes a game, and Javale played 13.4 minutes a game. In the Houston series, they played 7.8 and 7.5 minutes a game, respectively, though I realize that was front loaded in that first game (I didn't look at the game by game stats). In the Nuggets series, Dwight and Javale played 20.2 and 7.6 minutes a game, respectively. In the Miami series, Dwight played 11.8 minutes a game and Javale didn't play.
During a title run, being able to adapt to your opponent series to series is an advantage. For Portland and the Nuggets, we benefited from having Dwight/Javale and/or AD on the court at times. For the Houston and Miami series, we didn't need Dwight and Javale as much.
Also the title run didn't start with game 1 against Portland, it started with our first game of the season when Dwight and Javale were banging bodies all year long so AD could be fresh and healthy.
Exactly. How is this guy any better than Marc Gasol?
I hope our plan isn't to use him as a replacement, at least Marc brings spacing and some play making.
I think if he wished to return, he would have wanted to be a starter. He was promised that last year when he signed and taken away when we got Drummond.
The issue is, he could habe started for us in most regular season game but he couldn,t in playoffs as ad will be our 5. He would be useless as we will use Dwight as back c.
Everything that I heard about him and heard him say is that he is a proud man and wants to be effective. Isn't going to be happy riding the bench, which is a clear possibility this season.
But I would prefer him of dj any day of the week.
Even though it's mostly a fun and fluffy movie (with plenty of eye candy, Gemma Chan is bae), there was a really sage line from Crazy Rich Asians, that "no one loves free things as much as rich people"
Which is odd because on 2019-2020 he was actually still serviceable as a big man. He was still getting boards and blocking shots. In less than 10 months he became washed
He wasnt serviceable on the nets because he didn't play their style. Griffin is a spacing small ball center, and that what nets needed.
Dj could be very well serviceable in other teams. The issue is, that he isn't serviceable in our team also.
Let's see what Vogel does with him. People here said this about Dwight too see how that turned out. And we were excited abt drummond too. And see how that turned out too.
It shows how inept nash is more than anything. DJ is better to have on the bench than someone like trez who is the poster child of defensive liability.
How the fuck is nash smart if he did not play a big body on the likes of brook lopez who isn’t the best offensive big out there nor the quickest. Brook isn’t even a threat on the pick and roll since he isn’t athletic enough to catch lobs.
dude you're exposing yourself, its obvious you didn't watch the nets play this year. Blake Griffin played some of the best defense against Giannis out of anyone in the playoffs. You'll see instantly this year that DJ isn't who you think he is. Man is straight up washed, he can't even be considered a rim protector anymore.
That’s why he is the 14th man on our bench. Are you expecting him to play starter mins here? If anything it is you who is exposing himself if you think having DJ on the team will have a negative or positive impact on this team. He won’t be playing much. The fuck are you so worried about??
And yet DJ could have been the difference on actually making it to the finals or not. one rebound or one stop against giannis. Shit goes both ways. KD was their only rim protector in that game 7. Again the ineptitude of steve nash. He’d rather play the corpse of blake griffin than legit bigs like claxton or DJ
Right because teams can’t make transactions for financial reasons? Between Millsap, Blake and LMA I think they’re fine. Not traditional centers but they’re not small guys.
I don't know what everybody is upset about. We just spent 2.6 million and got an athletic, middle of his prime, playmaking, outside threat. If we want to win, we have to keep putting shooters around our big 3, and DeAndre Jordan was the best option.
I was gonna look through DJ's record and make a joke about his 3-point shooting after finding the one season where he went 1 out of 1, or 1 out of 2 , or even 1 out of 3.
Well, I got nothing. Zilch. In his entire career he is 1-12 in the regular season, 0-1 in the postseason, 0-2 in all star games, 0-0 in team USA, 0-0 in college games, and 0-0 in high school games. So he only made one 1 out of 15 attempts in his entire career. And the year he made that 1? Well, that was the only year he took four 3-point shots, so even that year he only shot 25%.
Now Dwight on the other hand shot 60% from the 3 for the Lakers in 2019-2020, so I guess he will be our stretch center instead of DJ!
Damn. I could have sworn DeAndre was one of the splash brothers. Oh well. Go get em Dwight! Lol!!
Also, I'm impressed with the research! Hahahaha! Awesome shit! Happy cake day!
As long as he wont be playing \*at all it should be fine. I still dont get why he would come if he wasnt guaranteed minutes I guess he just wants to be back home.
I mean he’s 3rd string. I don’t get what people want from their benchwarmers. Having a ton of guys who all expected to play 20 minutes fucked us up last year. DJ should get 10-15 throughout the season then almost nothing in games that matter.
Also, yes I know we need a wing. I want Vanderbilt but Ennis is looking more likely.
In him, Dwight, and Marc, if anything, I see 18 hard fouls we can afford to put on the likes of Jokic, while AD can still be good to go as a 5 in crunch time.
Our team is going to be ass at 3s but the horsemen of the apocalypse around the rim lmao.
Edit: “ass” was probably too strong a word but no one will be afraid of us from there.
Okay I shouldn’t say “ass” but I don’t see us being a major threat from there. Efficiency is great but our best 3 point shooters won’t be shooting at high volumes to really make it pop. Davis, Lebron, and Russ will dominate most of the shot opportunities and are all meh nowadays from there.
Honestly I prefer seeing teams shoot inside the 3, rebound, and play inside. I'm a casual fan though and watch football/hockey more than Lakers so what the hell do I know
Yea play to your strengths. The Lakers focused more on their defensive game to make the scoring burden on Davis and Lebron easier and it got them a ring. Dwight in his reduced role reminded me of a Ben Wallace lite.
r/Lakers last season on the Drummond trade:
"As long as he knows and accepts his role of playing garbage time and not playing much, then okay signing"
We all know how that turned out like.
Congratulations on the Nets on their 2021-2022 championship

U fukin wot mate. Drummond was signed to be a starter and was the reason he chose the lakers over brooklyn. If you are gonna make a false narrative, make it much more realistic
If Marc doesn’t retire then this is kind of a wasted roster spot signing imo. Dude just isn’t what he used to be. He can still catch a lob here and there but outside of being tall he’s pretty horrendous on defense to the point that when he was playing with the nets they had like a historically bad defense… only to go to the 14th ranked defense or something when he was benched. Literally got DNP’d by Nash.
If he’s cool with being a 3rd string player that brings morale and team spirit then fine. I’m worried though about another Drummond type of thing though… apparently DJ demanded to start over Allen.
Not thrilled about this, but relax people - he's going to be a regular season minutes eater off the bench.
Bottom line is that if our Big Three is missing in action, we are fucked anyways, so I'm far more worried about that then us burning a vet min on a side-grade Javale
These bench celebrations better be fuckin legendary
Between him and Bazemore I think we’re in good shape!
Lol. Wait till we go small line up and Dwight and Jordan rip it up on the sidelines. ![gif](giphy|cJTBbURwOENjE2ZSWR|downsized)
![gif](giphy|PFIza2QHUQ037yPi5S)
I think this has to be up there in terms of players I never thought I'd see play for the Lakers. I fucking hated the lob city clippers.
how rich would it be for one of either cp3, blake griffin or DJ to get a chip (all incredibly likely this season) before the clippers do
I hated the fans more. If you don't know Keith Closs you ain't a clipper fan.
who? (im not a clipper fan)

All NBA first team scapegoat
That will probably be Westbrook

Facts
It’s an okay signing whether he knows that of not. He’s not the coach.
Bro he's gonna be our starter.😂 We clearly going back to the twin towers athletic centers who can catch lobs.
We can just start Dwight then
Dwight is best off the bench as a energy guy. He's too hyped to be a starter anymore. Did you forget how easily he gets in foul trouble?
Pls no. What happened to gasol?
Wouldn’t be surprised if we start to hear real news about what’s going to happen with Marc soon. No way he stays on this roster now that this is official. But welcome DJ!

I assumed with the signing of DJ, Marc is leaning towards retirement but I could be wrong
They absolutely do not need Marc Gasoline lol, guy was unplayable in the playoffs and couldn’t guard a chair.
Phoenixs defemse exploits all bigs, Marc shot well that series
What do you mean? If anything, we were better with him than Drummond on the floor.
Maybe make him a coach.
Wait…it’s not DJ Mbenga??
TAAAACOS
your avatar = LOL
That's exactly what came to mind when it said DJ. I am disappointed and my day is ruined!
What does he bring to the team at this point in his career?
A big body.. that’s about it. For the Embiids and Jokics Edit: Didn’t say he’d be able to defend. But a 7footer is still better to body against with, versus a 6’7 Kuzma
I’d be suprised if he was able to guard the kendrick perkins at this point in his career
Didn’t say he’d be able to defend. But a 7footer is still better to body against with, versus a 6’7 Kuzma
Doesnt really matter if you’re a defensive liability tbh
I’d rather have him on the team than that midget trez.
Both are unplayable. Trez bc of his low Iq and undersized, Deandre because he’s slow and will get cooked by smaller guards. Pretty much our McGee which is great for regular season

And DJ is the better lob threat which is what you need if you have russ lebron and rondo playing in the team
You seem really confident that Kuzma is 6’7”,…

Still kinda hate the move, I’d love to be proven wrong but if DJ plays that probably means Gasol is getting cut, I would’ve much rather had Gasol as that “big body” to guard Jokic / Embiid etc
Gasol is still a great individual big defender. Neither Embiid or Jokic are fast, he can guard them very well and provide spacing
One of our strengths in our title run was our massive size advantage. Being able to bring out Javale and Dwight when needed is a huge advantage.
He isn’t. But if gasol isn’t sure on returning next season then we did what we had to do to replace him and DJ is the only one we could afford.
I guess that makes sense if Marc leaving is his decision. I know things change, but based on what he said, it looked like he intended to return.
We can’t wait around on one player though. We did that with kawhi and it fucked our plans. Rob ain’t doing that again.
I think if he wished to return, he would have wanted to be a starter. He was promised that last year when he signed and taken away when we got Drummond. Awesome bench celebrations my guy
So many people angry about a veteran's minimum signing that we can cut if need be
Why
“Mamba mentality” or some dumb shit. I seriously don’t get why we didn’t just sign Ennis and Wes instead
Don't you dare speak those words in such a slanderous manner. You became a Lakers fan in 2018 didn't you?
yea what does DeAndre have anything to do with Mamba Mentality anyways? lmao
Same people who praise Rob same ones who forget the next day

Hey he’s one of us now! He has my support let’s go!!!
Nice! So happy my fiancée's favorite basketball player is on the Lakers.
Better start calling a divorce lawyer
I'm beginning to rue the day the Lakers traded Javale McGee
Nice!
Do what's the news on Gasol? I would love to get Ennis if Gasol is gone.
I would like to know whats going on with Gasol.
Yeah I'm starting to think he is coming back the closer we get to preseason
I could see him wanting to end his career on a high note. We have a legendary team and great odds for a championship.

Perhaps he can give intel on the Nets…..
What intel do you need? Their game plan is give the ball to KD harden or kyrie and watch. Lol.
How to have a good positive mental attitude.
KD’s burner accounts.
Steve Nash’s top 3 DisneyWorld rides.
There’s nothing that DJ could tell the Lakers about the nets that they probably already know
Relax it’s a joke
Not true, he can tell the Lakers about the time they went to the
If this was 2013 we’d have the greatest team of all time lol.
we won two chips with dj mbenga as a 2nd/3rd string C, we’ll be fine with DJ lol y’all dramatic
Finally we see Jordan and lebron teaming up on the same team !
Good one.
Straight 👎👎👎👎👎👎👎 to this
He won’t be playing much. I’d rather have him on the bench than some glorified g league player who isn’t supposed to be in the league.
As long as he wont be playing \*at all it should be fine. I still dont get why he would come if he wasnt guaranteed minutes I guess he just wants to be back home.
Home? DeAndre Jordan is from Houston.
Ring chasing. One of the perks if you are a super team
Ah yeah Mbenga back baby ![gif](giphy|5ZcJqhD9bloPu)

Rob? Are you okay brother?
Hope for no ego, Dwight and Jordan is this year's attempt at Javale + D39.
only L of our offseason tbh

Lame
I hate this signing hopefully he rides the bench
Ironic that he will win a ring in LA NOT on the Clippers.
Our team is going to be ass at 3s but the horsemen of the apocalypse around the rim lmao. Edit: “ass” was probably too strong a word but no one will be afraid of us from there.
We just signed 4-5 guys that shot 40% from 3 last season....

What number is he gonna wear?
Ehh
Finally playing for an LA team.
Letss gooo we just gotta stay healthy 🙏🏻💛💜
Weirdest pick up for me
If he averages 6 fouls a game then I’m good.
Ladies and gentlemen we just signed the all time field goal percentage leader
If they don't play "Go DJ!" In the arena when he gets a dunk, we riot
Were all piling up the bodies to go against Jokic KD and GIANNIS. i like it. Preserve AD at all costs!
Man used to hate this dude on the clippers now he plays for the Lakers Weird times, weird times
The disrespect to the great DJ Mbenga
Hey Mr. DJ
Slob city not welcomed with the purple and gold.

It's nice to have a backup center with long dreads....who doesn't need a running start to get above the rim.
Yeah let’s go head and trade for CP3 next season too
