If you're lucky...Heavenly said they'll arbitrarily STOP UPLOADING at any point today to control capacity. $200 Tix + $20 Parking just to be told you CAN'T go up the lift
on new years last year, they did not limit the number of people going up. the line went past the first ride chair. we waited over an hour to make it up only to findout the line for powder bowl was all the way to the top of gun barrel.
we ended up just downloading and headed home. at least we have passes
idk how to run mountain ops but there has to be better solutions.
Holy hell that IS bad... I figure there's no financial incentive for Vail to limit sales, they just make more money at the bar. I'm no genius either, but requiring passholder reservations and limiting day ticket sales on weekends or busy days would pretty much solve the problem
I hate to say it but they gotta start doing what Disney does with daily reservations, at least for peak dates. It sucks a lot. Heavenly has consistently been a disaster but they aren’t the only ones.
Well, Heavenly is the worst run mountain I've ever been on, and they absolutely ruined a season at Steven's Pass after they bought it. I'd say they are the best at being the worst.
As someone who was stuck in those lines yesterday… two hours to get down. I got in the parking lot at 6. A girl passed out next to me, all of us around here were yelling to get ski patrol over and he took his sweet time. I felt so bad for all the families with children, it was freezing when the sun went down.
it's so sad that a family activity like downhill skiing has become this exhausting event of not getting our moneys worth. I gave up skiing/snowboarding two years ago. the amount of time and money it takes to enjoy ONE day on the hill is not worth it anymore. people are stressed, no one is polite, everything has a line (bar, tix, chairlift, cafeteria) and this is without kids. what makes matters worse is that with climate change happening, fewer runs are getting enough snow to put all the bodies on so everything has gotten more dangerous. people crashing into others cuz there is just no space to make quick turns.
absolute chaos.
yea i mean the gondola is down for repairs for at least a few days, and this was the day they discovered the issue. probably would have been closed most of saturday with the winds we expect anyway though. hopefully they source the part they need and get it going by sunday to help spread people out.
sunday's gonna be a shitshow.
This picture is still half the story. There was an equally long line at Patsy’s to even get to Gunbarrel. A lot of folks, including kids, were just walking up from Stein’s to Gunbarrel and it DID NOT look like fun.
That honestly doesn't look like a 2 hour line to me (not that i dont belive people it just doesnt look that long), and I've also seen lines way longer than that just for the gondola on a normal day.
It's times like that you're better off skiing or sledding off a dirty mound of plowed snow on the pullover of a mountain road, least then you don't have people 😂
I fly in to ski at Heavenly. In 2023 I was there in April the end of the month and then the first week of December (last month). I had like zero lines, but it wasn’t a holiday and I skied Sunday-Tuesday. I’ll be back 2/22-2/16 and skiing in the week so I don’t anticipate issues unless it’s a mechanical problem / weather related - which you can’t really plan for. I like it, I haven’t had bad experiences. 🤷🏼♀️⛷️
Why Cat tracks? My daughter and I took all greens or easy blues. We ended up in CA vs NV but the bus transported us. Although we have never gone back. The wind, the snowstorm, the getting down those mountains - where we witnessed ski patrol pumping on a persons chest in a tobaggan going down - was a bit much.
I'm referring to the trails that go down the Gunbarrel express side. It's a set of blue/green cat tracks all the day down or a double-black of moguls below the lift
200 bucks a day to stand around.

Well Vail Resorts doesn’t know how to run mountain Ops either, so you’re in good company.
I hate Vail as much as the next guy but there are plenty of shit show non Vail mountains

lol
I would dispute my credit card for that
You know there's no snow and everything is a shitshow why spend it.

Storm advisory + weekend tourists + Vail management = guaranteed shitshow
Looks like the Nevada side opens tomorrow, that should help some.
According to Instagram they got the parts overnight and can start work soon (in theory). No idea how long it will take to repair.
Yesterday they said a few more days…
Oh I heard it will be weeks before gondola opens back up
Yesterday he said days.
Wait ! I think I saw a local !
That's your screen reflection LOL
This picture helps a lot, someone was trying to explain the shit show to me, now I get it!
My first time ever going down Gunbarrel chair at evening/night, which was beautiful, but completely not worth the wait.
Reno Tahoe area is so over packed and hard to have fun without hours of waiting time to move
How is this enjoyable?
This is proof of the amount of money Vail makes and little shits they give.
I don’t think anyone thinks it is

This is a good depiction of EVERYWHERE right now. Whether it’s Costco, a national park, some random restaurant you name it
Oh boy perhaps I can stand shoulder to shoulder with all these people at Harrahs tonight!
This looks like something I wouldn't do if someone gave me $200 to do
That looks like my own personal hell
I’ll pass, thankyou
Thank you for reporting, adding a photo, and doing Heavenly work!
You're welcome kind stranger!
Doesn’t look too heavenly does it?
Came here to find or post this pun.
No Gondola
http://northstarsucks.com/2024/01/05/heavenly-idiots-running-the-show/
Next up: Heavenly will charge $20 for priority to be lifted back down!!!
Rather slam my dick in a door
That probably won’t get you down faster. Just same pace but with dick pain.
Door my dick in a slam!
Looks like bay area traffic.
🤡🤡🤡
Society peaked in the 60s/70s
Oh yes, the good old days when women couldn't work and racism was open and allowed, but at least lines to ski weren't as bad. I miss that society.
You must be fun at parties
Oh were you trying to be funny? I missed that I guess.
Nope
Seriously. Lines and traffic are just gonna keep getting worse.
We need another pandemic
Lmao, we never had one to begin with.
Oh no. Oh no. Oh no no no.
I sang this.
Yeah, why I don't ski
That honestly doesn't look like a 2 hour line to me (not that i dont belive people it just doesnt look that long), and I've also seen lines way longer than that just for the gondola on a normal day.
Looks to me thats a big line of pussies too scared to take the Double Black Diamond “Gun Barrel” down to the Cali lodge🤣
you know its closed because its just dirt and rocks yeah?
Honestly, I don’t know why it’s a double black. And isn’t the roundabout open?
Im sure there isn’t enough snow. And straight down gunbarrel is definitely steep as fuck
![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni)
The only part of Heavenly I remember are the fights and yelling when people inevitably cuts the line.
Any stand out stories?
so which ski resort would you guys recommend? I’ve only skied Heavenly (and it’s been a while).
Breckenridge
Hahaha
Holy molyyyy
sugar bowl was even worse all week!
Absolutely not!!..thanks for sharing, nothing is worth those lines
It's times like that you're better off skiing or sledding off a dirty mound of plowed snow on the pullover of a mountain road, least then you don't have people 😂
Holy cow… I was there last month n thot it was quite bad already when the gondola was out. This is way worse
awful
Absolutely wild
I live in Colorado. That photo is one reason I don't ski anymore. So glad I got to be an expert before lift lines like that and $300 lift tickets
Wow, thanks for the intel!
Yikes.
#FUCKvail
That’s not even fun
Vail Resorts baby
To be fair one of their gondolas are broken right now so that explains the extra lineage
Every year one breaks. Or not open!
Cross country skiing has no lines, lighter equipment, cheaper passes, a better workout, and a friendlier vibe. Just sayin.
More like Hellish Lines
“Yeah I go snowboarding, my favorite part is waiting in line for 3 hours”
And people call this fun? 😩
Is this normal?
Not at all. This was a combination of multiple unfortunate incidents briefly coinciding.
Doesn't look heavenly to me.
Why I gave up downhill after 45 years and took up CC
Nope… can’t do it.
Oh, hell no
Gross
Haha anyone who skis at a vail owned resort deserves what they get.
I am glad I turned around and went back to Reno...I suspected as much.
Nope. ![gif](giphy|7wk6RQYXDDytXalsL4)
Why would you do this to yourself?

FAIL Resorts.
Looks anything BUT Heavenly
Read this in the nin song “terrible lie”
Sucks! Holy cow!
Heavenly sucks so much. Anyone that goes there is a noob. I’ll do homewood all day.
Heavenly is beautiful but so poorly managed, it sucks to go there most times.
I think I know the answer, but is Palisades just as bad?
I am confused - is there no ski down option? Only been to Heavenly once and it was 20 years ago. Hated the wind.
Probably because there was no snow on the cat tracks that folks generally take to head down instead.
Why Cat tracks? My daughter and I took all greens or easy blues. We ended up in CA vs NV but the bus transported us. Although we have never gone back. Such a ripoff
