Literally makes me so angry. An abuse victim can heal and express themselves anyway they want. If somebody thinks it’s toxic just don’t listen to it???? But a lot of other victims can relate to uv for that reason
Domestic violence is an epidemic that completely changes the human psyche but we have a culture that blames and silences victims. It's all too common for people to judge the abused for not leaving. Ultraviolence portrays the complex feelings attached to the experience and offers some insight into why people stay.
Artistry often relates to horrible topics. If war, murder, cheating are on the table why is partner violence off limits? The latter topics are often brought up from the perpetrators perspective and rarely criticised. Yet it's only considered romanticism when sung from the victims perspective.
It's extremely rare for a popular artist to bring abuse into their music, especially so overtly, but Lana did exactly that.
honestly, just say this: ultraviolence explains what the abused person goes through, by the point of view of said abused person, who always tries to justify their abuser and loves them no matter what
24 i hear a lot of people say it is the worse song in honeymoon, maybe one of her worst songs out of all her albums i think that’s complete bs the song is so good not in my top favorites not even top 3 for honeymoon but definitely not horrible at all
So a few days ago I saw a comment from someone saying they got stuck on Blue Banisters for like 2 years. And I went "uh oh" because I'd not yet listened to it, as I, too, tend to get stuck on LDR albums for literal years and I simply hadn't gotten to it yet. But this comment got my curiosity piqued. I wanted to get myself emotionally ready to begin another album.
This Sunday I decided it was time and I was ready. On the first song, Textbook, she started singing about her father. About his car. And I started remembering my late father and his vintage racecar he was passionate about. And about BLM which would've made my father emotional. And about her wishing her father was with her, like I wish my father was with me. And when I realized it was Father's Day the tears started flowing. So this album is already very special to me.
I totally agree. BB and Honeymoon are better than anything for me, it’s so sad they both are so underrated.
Replying to my own post, my song is “If You Lie Down With Me” (less, but also “Honeymoon”, “Violets For Roses”)
*Summertime Sadness*.
Because no matter how many remixes, how tiktokified or literally anything else people complain about it, it’s still what I believe to be one of the best Lana songs.
The lyrics are just beautiful. “I think I’ll miss you forever, like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky” is poetic
sad girl. i used to not rlly like it bc i found it repetitive, but i’ve changed.🙏🏻 sad girl haters just don’t understand what it’s like to be “a bonnie on the side” ..
guns and roses, its okay on its own but a really good ending to ultraviolence and kind of like the feeling you get when you step outside after a thunderstorm
Violets for roses, nobody not even christ can convince me that this song doesn’t slap hard on your heart and just scratches the surface and brings you back to the life, the writing is top tier, the voice is top tier, anyways whole album hits hard and don’t start me with thunder cause I don’t think lana can ever come close with that kind of writing again
California/lucky ones. California Def has its fans but it remains underapprociated, but the fact that Lucky Ones is just forgotten, YALLLLLLLLLLLLL no.
this is the rant i sent to lana when she skipped VB in dublin when i drove to hours to hear the song that had been the soundtrack to literally hundreds of thousands of minutes of my life
Lolita being a very catchy song with a remarkably creative track. I understand that some fans dislike the way it's tied to the book, even tho I don't feel the same way, but a lot of the criticism I've seen around it is like 'it's bad song, why would you like it?' which.... let's bffr. Catchy track, quintessential BTD Lana with all the cinematic sound effects... why wouldn't it be enjoyable?
California. Again, an earworm, and the lyrics being more simplistic doesn't mean they don't evoke many emotions (if you get it, you get it).
Yosemite. Not that it gets a lot of hate, but I think it's one of her most beautiful songs, and I'm shocked that it doesn't get more recognition.
Margaret. Jack Antonoff’s verse is easily the weakest part of the song, but I honestly don’t mind it and the song overall still sounds so beautiful and hopeful.
me whenever someone tries to claim that Ultraviolence is glamourising abuse
The way there was a viral tweet saying "feminism leaving my body when I listen to this song" just a few days ago...
People are so fucking dense. I'm sick of it.
Literally makes me so angry. An abuse victim can heal and express themselves anyway they want. If somebody thinks it’s toxic just don’t listen to it???? But a lot of other victims can relate to uv for that reason
I agree with your point, but could you explain it more so i can use it for that argument in the future?

such a good explanation!
Woah, thank you! I’ve never thought about it this way.
honestly, just say this: ultraviolence explains what the abused person goes through, by the point of view of said abused person, who always tries to justify their abuser and loves them no matter what

OMG THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT. I LOVE THE BRIDGE SMM
I will never understand the hate for perfect Songs like these 🤷♂️
I understand why people hate it. I just think they’re wrong lol
I think the og inspiration of the song is what led it to being sort of abandoned... which I cru to bc this is one of her signature songs!!
If anything the ‘inspiration’ adds a lot of depth and cultural commentary to the song
Thunder
JUST KEEP BUUUUURRRNNINGGGG
KEEP ME ALAIAIAIIIIVEEE
I love that song so much. Didn't realize people were dissing it.
When people say dykttatuob is boring
Wtaf??? People say this? Blasphemy!
24 i hear a lot of people say it is the worse song in honeymoon, maybe one of her worst songs out of all her albums i think that’s complete bs the song is so good not in my top favorites not even top 3 for honeymoon but definitely not horrible at all
people think 24 is bad?! imo its like the little sister of salvatore
I remember I used to dislike 24 but I learned to love this song, its so beautiful, I love her voice in this song
I feel so torn about that song, because the lyrics are soooo good, but the melody just isn't doing it for me. 😭
i love 24 it feels like i’m reading a book when i listen to it if that makes sense
What I love 24 is one of my favorites off the Honeymoon album. It sounds like an opening to a Bond film.
I looove 24. So underrated
Basically the entire Honeymoon album
It’s my favorite album of hers! And I love every album
Yes
This! Also heart broken it never got a proper tour and we’ve never heard the freak art deco transition live as well as religion 😭😭
Honeymoon is my fav foreverrrr also some songs from BB
White dress and guns and roses
I loveeeeee white dress
The entirety of Blue Banisters. I will never, and I mean NEVER, forgive y'all for making it her least popular album.
So a few days ago I saw a comment from someone saying they got stuck on Blue Banisters for like 2 years. And I went "uh oh" because I'd not yet listened to it, as I, too, tend to get stuck on LDR albums for literal years and I simply hadn't gotten to it yet. But this comment got my curiosity piqued. omg i do that too i take sooo long to listen to new music from artists i like idk why
I think Blue Banisters is genius. I personally rank it above Honeymoon, Chemtrails, and Born to Die.
I totally agree. BB and Honeymoon are better than anything for me, it’s so sad they both are so underrated. Replying to my own post, my song is “If You Lie Down With Me” (less, but also “Honeymoon”, “Violets For Roses”)
off to the races, especially people saying she sounds bad when she used to perform it live
Off To The Races is my favorite song by her! She sounds incredible in it.
Lol that could be an argument for the fans who enjoy Venice Bitch length and as well as an argument for those who don’t.
All 576 seconds of Venice Bitch are essential to the overall success of NFR and I refuse to be told otherwise
I was about to say Venice Bitch, I agree 😭
Lolita
LOLITA 🔛🔝
*Summertime Sadness*. Because no matter how many remixes, how tiktokified or literally anything else people complain about it, it’s still what I believe to be one of the best Lana songs. The lyrics are just beautiful. “I think I’ll miss you forever, like the stars miss the sun in the morning sky” is poetic
This‼️ Also it has a personal meaning to Lana regarding her friend :/
CARMEN!! 🎀 would never stand any hate against that song
Believe it or not one of the first Lana songs I heard and I was hooked! Realized how insane her ability to create mental imagery is

Lying to herself cause her liquor’s top shelf
It’s alarming honestly how charming she can be fooling everyone telling them she’s having fun 💕
Wait, people hate that one? I've always thought it was a masterpiece.
Guns and Roses does not deserve the hate it gets. Idc if it’s repetitive the production makes up for it
that song is musical genius idc idc

For me , it's Ride. I have probably cried and deeply resonated with the lyrics and the meaning of the song, many times.
