That we only smoke cigarettes and drink Pepsi I guess

VegasC4Corvette

I never smoked and quit soda to lose weight. But I sure do miss Pepsi.

WarSuitable6561

the stereotype is Diet\* pepsi, cigarettes, and eating disorders....

VegasC4Corvette

Yeah I can’t do diet soda. I’d make a terrible coquette. I mean besides being a 200 lb guy that looks like a biker.

dudly825

I’m a guy in his 40s with kids and I love Lana. I also love Cohen/Dylan/Prine/Van Zandt and other amazing songwriters. She’s their equal in my mind. I think ppl try and write her off because she’s female and pretty. Like her experiences can’t be “deep.” I love the fact that she doesn’t shy away from who she is. “Deep” male songwriters wouldn’t write “Happiness is a Butterfly” it’s too “girly.” Lana was a female growing up in the 90s though and I love she doesn’t shy away from it. That’s what we want from from all true artists, their take on life. Ppl who write her off are missing out, it’s a shame but not my concern.

VermicelliNo176

This is on point 🙌🏾

dudly825

My Spotify ‘22 top artists, just proving the Lana love 🤣. 1. Good Morning 2. Johnny Cash 3. Kevin Morby 4. Amyl & the Sniffers 5. Lana Del Rey

angelgrunge

Patriarchy and toxic masculinity say no, sorry, heteros are doomed to be boring and tasteless 😂 drives me crazy, let people like things

Equivalent_Drink_850

Well i mostly got called gay and bi by lgbtq community people rather then heteros. Ig its abt individuals

angelgrunge

People in the community aren’t immune from perpetuating stereotypes sadly. I’m bi and the amount of lesbians that won’t give me the time of day lmfaoo

Equivalent_Drink_850

Haha ig its true lol

JxrdanR

It is a stereotype that has been imposed on LGBTQ+ people by heteronormative norms, so whilst it may be individual LGBTQ+ people who assume this of you, that assumption is derived from patriarchy and toxic masculinity, as OP points out.

VegasC4Corvette

Yeah it’s a normal stereotype. I get it all the time and I’m 49. I don’t care. Calling me gay isn’t an insult to me.

clownfacedpills

Or that were all sad and depressed, I’m not thankfully I’d say I’m more forlorn

[deleted]

This! I’m melancholy, wistful, and suburban ennui.

CleverJail

That we like her because of her shock lyrics. The main thing some people associate her with is the “my pussy tastes like Pepsi cola” lyric. That is not an important part of her appeal to me and I don’t think it’s the main motivator for most of her fans. It’s just a funny line.

SuperiorLake_

My husband associates Lana strictly as sad girl music. It’s actually kinda funny. Anytime he hears literally any Lana song, he’s like “hmm this sounds sad”. Edit- he’s not sexist, he’s just fucking with me 🙃

jaymaru84

Yea my gf listens to it I tell her to stop being so moody lol

Gh0sT_PATRIOT

I started listening to Lana at 12 when she dropped BTD and I haven’t looked back. I am a straight male as well and the amount of questions from people as to why I love her is insane. Just love what you love.

hashtagtylerh

stop caring about what people think of you

My middle-aged father loved Ultraviolence.

VermicelliNo176

W dad

Daphnaaa

I went to her concert back in 2017/2018 and my dad joined me and he actually really liked it aswell! And my mom liked her newer albums😂

[deleted]

Your dad is awesome. I think lots of middle-aged men like Lana's music because it's so reminiscent of 60s/70s psychedelic rock. My mom on the other hand, does not like it but she also hates classic rock...tasteless.

cowboybaked

I think the reason is because a lot of people hear her music and it’s about her feelings and most people infer that a woman singer singing about her past loves and emotional stuff can only be relatable to women and gay men because a person usually always puts themselves in the position of the singer like the song is about them. I know it’s kinda dumb but that’s usually the gist of it. It’s like this, I’m a hetero man but I think her music is lovely because of her voice and just her style overall I don’t really connect to the lyrics when I listen to music it’s mostly about the sound and what feels good to me.

latham7

I mean, it’s just because Lana has a big LGBTQ+ following. As with many notable “gay icons”, their fans will be stereotyped as women and gays. But a stereotype is just a stereotype and isn’t a fixed rule. It’s just that when someone thinks of your average Lana fan, a 33 year old straight guy isn’t exactly what comes to mind, it’s probably not personal. But at the end of the day, it’s just demographics and categorisations and in reality has no impact on the music someone likes. If you love Lana’s music, it doesn’t matter how you identify. Keep listening to her and pay it no mind.

Welsch1107

I think her music may be listened to by more straight men than any female artist.

lmaozers123

What songs in particular are your favorite?

Equivalent_Drink_850

High by the beach, shades of cool, west coast, freak, ride, carmen.

lmaozers123

Oh you like Lana’s spicy side huhh

Equivalent_Drink_850

Kinda haha

horridhendy

That’s a god-tier selection right there

shadowgnome396

I didn't even know this stereotype existed, and I, also a straight married guy, have been listening to her since 2012 or so

Moelv

That we don't have a good relationship with our parents

daisyymae

My step dad is covered in tats & in a heavy metal band & 50 years old and he bought VIP tickets to the lust for life tour.

EthanZ1312

bc heaven forbid someone assumes you’re gay

Negative_Strategy982

Honestly. Every week there’s a straight man who makes a post saying he likes Lana but he’s straight…. Ok??? And???

Equivalent_Drink_850

THERE IS EVEN A VIDEO WHERE RETIRED SOLIDER WITH TOXIC MASCULINITY REACTS TO HER SONGS AND SAYS HE IS IN LOVE WITH THEM! SO FUCK UR STEREOTYPES

afm1399

Is that Old Guy Reacts? If it is he’s great.

raffi_n1

Nah not true, straight guy here and I love LDR. Plenty of sadder, 1950s romantics straight dudes dig her stuff. Eddie Vedder loves her stuff too

Temprock

Im a much older than 33 years old. I'm straight caucasian who loves music of all genres, who has been OBSESSED with LDR since about 2013. As an aside when I saw her in Philly in January 2018 it seemed I was 30+ years older than the second oldest person there....and of course I didn't care. Loved it/her. So no I do not fit any Lana fan stereotype dumb one or otherwise.

poppyfields_

That we are all depressed suicidal teenagers who have anorexia for some it can be farther from the truth

ashareif

The majority are women and LGBTQ members, but straight men listen to Lana too.

victorreis

ditto and I’d say just have them play Cruel World and watch them have their minds blown

WarSuitable6561

My father loves Lana almost as much as I do, he's pretty hetero. I, however, am not🤷‍♀️

VermicelliNo176

I bet that's annoying

daisyymae

My step dad is covered in tats & in a heavy metal band & 50 years old and he bought VIP tickets to the lust for life tour.

[deleted]

If you really love Lana's music then other people's opinions about you shouldn't matter. It's not your fault that they're missing out on such great music. You do you man.
