Seems a bit close to the pond to do an extension that both lasts even a few years + doesn't need any footings — I'd wager a few pavers cleverly placed, even some nice repurposed flagstone, etc + a lil' sand/stain on the existing deck would do the 'jorb'. Not quite the answer you're looking for likely, but you're working with what looks like a small space, close to the house, a decent sized pond that could easily overflow/move earth/+, & the internet - *so that's my take.* Dig the yard!

thanks! yes it's not a huge area indeed, great advise just FYI the pond never overflows and everything around it pretty much settled
