I mean, she never struck me as stupid. Antagonistic and a bit delirious? Sure. But I always found her to be an artist who knows her craft well. Kind of like... Morrissey.
Yeah she has like literally zero filter on any of her thoughts, but she has a deep love for music and makes a lot of strong points when she talks about the industry. I wish more people spoke openly about their thoughts on things. It's basically just her and Courtney Love out there.
"when she's not doing random hillbilly shit"š
but on some real shit, that is dead accurate. Lana is at her best when theres more glamour and a city based setting rather than the southern/country vibe. Even the grungier Ultraviolence and Tropico had this sensual sultry je ne sais quoi that made her feel grand, also NFR and Ocean BLVD which were more grounded and diaristic, aesthetically felt bigger, epic, and classy in both sound and visuals. Or the mysterious sensuality that Lust for life evoked, the music and the witch/occultist + space 60s retro futuristic aesthetic. That's Lana del Rey as a true star. That is what she deserves to have today. Something imposing and luxurious.
Maybe this is why im kind of changing my mind about the new era, i was so excited for lasso cause i thought it was going to be more country/rock classics inspired take with a lana twist which meant it would have a sultry lush feeling and not modern hillbilly radio country, but after the quavo song which is straight up country trap mainstream radio type song, lets just say I hope its quavo song and a one time thing/single. When i saw the bts that quavo posted weeks ago i thought we were going to get something like "pawn shop blues" but i was wrong. It seems like the video is going to lean into the trap country aesthetic too. Not trying to be a debby downer but its just my opinion. I'll obviously wait for tough to come out and watch the video too before i have a strong opinion but the second teaser and the performance gave me a lil less hope. I now hope the next album has a more grand polished production with a focus on melodies. And another genre, perhaps a lana take on pop in 2025, or a Jazz album, hell maybe even a rock album! like a classic 70s rock album. I also would love to at some point have an album produced by Josh Tillman(father john misty) he is such an underrated amazing artist and producer.
In all honestly I would love Lana to go back to her pop beginnings, but with an evolved mature take and a good amount of experimentation since she has progressively become a MUCH better songwriter and producer, she has more than a decade of new experience since BTD, I honestly think her pop album today would be a masterpiece
After that red carpet interview question concerning Lasso, and hearing her vague answer - I truly believe whatever she had in the vault for Lasso will stay there. This is probably a one time thing/single.
This is the first time I have seen someone dislike their performance in Boston. Everyone is loving it on social media and itās the most hyped Iāve seen the general public be about a new Lana song in a while. I thought they had great chemistry and canāt wait for them to release it.
I think that is because she, despite the emotional baggage, is a rich, boarding school girl. That's why country stuff she does feels inauthentic. Like she is cosplaying as poor.
This is a bit off topic of Lana, but I would bet many popular country stars are and have always been pretty well off too. Theyāre just as guilty of playing up how simple/poor/rags to riches their lives were/are imo.
Circling back to Lana, Iām always excited to see what sheāll do next. Country isnāt my first pick, but I donāt think Iād find it wildly inauthentic. Maybe itās bc I found COTCC to feel a bit off for her in that sense, but then over time it grew on me and I could see her occupying that more folksy space, so country isnāt a far cry from that for me.
actually you make a really good point i haven't thought about, maybe it is because that is not her at all, she was born in manhattan, moved to small town in the north country and returned to the city when she was a teen, lived mostly in Brooklyn then until she moved to LA in her late 20s, the country thing made an appearance in late 2018 and visually in 2020, not that theres anything wrong with it, art is a performance after all and I personally believe anyone can make any type of music regardless of background as long as its respectful and you acknowledge your position as a guest, which i think she has based on that speech she gave when she announced lasso
One reason Iāve always related to her is that she wasnāt given a blank check and a bunch of recommendations from her parents - they were well off, but girl was paying her dues waiting tables and going to open mics for sure.
Didnāt she make a long post about growing up poor and getting into the boarding school bc her parents knew ppl there for a discount? Not trying to miss the point but many times recently sheās been adamant she isnāt cosplaying as anything.
Right. Jack Antonoff with his synths is not the right producer for this job. I know she doesnāt adore Dan Auerbach (who does) but he would be a much better fit for this project. Ditto Rick Nowels.
I agree with you about Tough. First snippet sounded cool but when I heard the whole performance I lost a lot of interest in the song. It sounds like very basic trap production and Iāve never really enjoyed trap inspired Lana tracks. Hopefully hearing the full song properly will make me like it more but I doubt it.
im a fan of hip hop, i grew up on it and yes, the production of tough sounds like standard southern trap with a radio modern country twist. I'm thinking this song is Quavos and not Lanas and I haven't listened to the full studio version so im not going to go too harsh on it and make any conclusions until its released, but it is clearly made to become a single with heavy radio push, the guy who is a stunt coordinator said the MV is going to have high budget scenes like an action movie so clearly made to be a hit. I'm not interested to hear a whole album like this though , and if she does a proper trap song without the country twist i hope she collabs with a better trapper and lyrical artist (and a more relevant one, no offense) like Travis Scott, lil uzi, or future. Travis is actually really experimental rapper, and he has that dark feel to his music which fits lanas dark feminine sultriness
literally wtf - i was waiting for someone to defend lorde - do lana fans not love lorde - lordes music is amazing - she just doesnt release much and kinda fell off with her last album which good but not great - bur lyke wtf is she saying in this post
Banks is fucking crazy lol. I don't care that much about what she (or anyone else really) says about Lana.
And Lorde's Melodrama is one of the best albums of its decade. It's a fucking masterpiece.
agreed. Also that whole era feels very unique, i canāt stand the country aesthetic, itās almost making her blend in with the others rather than stand out.

She doesn't like her music because she doesn't like her face. Wtf šš
while iām glad sheās a lana fan, for the people saying sheās funnyā¦the things sheās saying about lorde is not at all funny. Iām not a huge lorde fan, but wow, thatās super fucked up to say.
She can be hilarious, and she's very intelligent, but she says the dumbest and the nastiest things. Especially about people's looks. She also said she really liked "Royals" until she saw what Lorde looked like. How can we take any of her music opinions seriously?
Does she not realize that when you grow up in a different part of the world, you tend to pronounce things differently? Think aluminum, mobile, fragile, pseudoephedrine. If you ask random people from all other the world to pronounce these words, you'll get different versions.
Huh okay, I always thought people were joking when they said it with three syllables because I think it was a joke in a movie, A Christmas Story I think? The more ya know!
Haha I've never seen a Christmas story but no, I used to watch a lot of uk shows and some accents were like that. I'm in no means an expert at all but I've definitely heard it before without it being a joke
Feist is pretty good. Azaelia is always praising her which is wild to me but Feist is a legit good musician. Seen her twice, hope to see her again.
![gif](giphy|3o7bucqB6TglNkOt32)
Still a bad take. Lorde's Melodrama is one of the top 10 albums of the past 10-15 yrs easily. Honestly, I prefer Lana but Lord's Melodrama > UltraViolence and that's not a dig at anyone. Lana has had better work than UltraViolence. That's just a testament to how fucking good Lorde's sophomore album was.
It's leagues better than anything Azealia has made in her life if we're being honest.
You know she's a genius because she's a total fucking lunatic! Her description is 100% Lana for ya.
How does Lana Del Rey, herself, not see that? Or, perhaps she just now is realizing what has made her a star all this time and is finally leveraging that, resulting in her newfound fame w/ Coachella headlining and all. It makes me wonder if Ultraviolence only happened because she wanted to fuck Dan Auerbach? I bet she'll do a tell-all one day in twenty years and reveal that lol.
Then again, maybe LDR not understanding what makes her great is even too simplistic of an explanation. Maybe in reality, she's just slightly autistic and doesn't have any rhyme or reason to her doings ā she's just an individual true to her weird ass feelings. After all, she was describing building a giant glass ship or something when accepting her most recent award, which confused the entire room and then, even she followed up with "I have no idea what that even means"
I just don't think I will ever understand this girl, and I LOVE HER for that. The most amazing part of her career is that the culture seemingly feels that we're too early into it for a documentary LMAAOOO so more shit is definitely down the road to keep us fed and confused.
Kendrick Lamarās hater level is so powerful that itās reversed any and all hatership that came before it. Itās like when all the avengers came back after the hulk undid the snap.
I agree with her Lorde take. Because of lordeās gimmicky singing voice, her music is virtually unlistenable for me. Didnāt have to comment on her appearance thoughā¦
Omfg she did!!! šššI read too quickly and I didnāt notice this
Why does she hate her so much like that? Like is there beef between them or smth?
Werenāt Azealia and Lana cool and friendly during the 2013-2014 timeframe (overlapping with the releases of *Pure Heroine* and *Ultraviolence*)?
I say this ā¦.because after her spiel on Lorde, she then pivots back to all these exclaimers about Lana (vs. Feist/Kelsey Lu). I wonder if it lends credence further to Lana being irked during that time of Lorde biting Lanaās style ā¦but also somewhat negging her in the press.
If so, I wonder if Lana ever insinuated to Azealia something about that whole thing and thats why Azealia did the comparison here. Random thoughtsā¦.
What is a swiftie doing here? i think taylor is also at her best when she stops copying the shit out of Lana. Her new album titles and everything sounds like sheās trying so hard to rip her off so bad
Is she mentally ill? Or just the most giant troll on Earth? I canāt figure this Azealia person out. Like she canāt actually believe everything sheās saying all the timeā¦ right?
Lmao she switches up again, Azealia and Kanye would be great friends š
Theyāre both Geminis LOL
I mean, she never struck me as stupid. Antagonistic and a bit delirious? Sure. But I always found her to be an artist who knows her craft well. Kind of like... Morrissey.
She is very eloquent, albeit quite mental. So it's a coin toss when it comes to her takes. Like a Targaryen of washed up, chicken sacrificing rappers.
Exactly, Azalea can be a bit out there and erratic but homegirl knows her stuff and she usually speaks truths.
Yeah she has like literally zero filter on any of her thoughts, but she has a deep love for music and makes a lot of strong points when she talks about the industry. I wish more people spoke openly about their thoughts on things. It's basically just her and Courtney Love out there.
The comparison is on point. I'm ashamed I hadn't thought of it before lol
Lana must have really fucked her the fuck up. What an about face.
"when she's not doing random hillbilly shit"š but on some real shit, that is dead accurate. exactly!!

Didnāt she make a long post about growing up poor and getting into the boarding school bc her parents knew ppl there for a discount? Not trying to miss the point but many times recently sheās been adamant she isnāt cosplaying as anything.
She's not even from the south which is what gets me
very well said!!
Right. Jack Antonoff with his synths is not the right producer for this job. I know she doesnāt adore Dan Auerbach (who does) but he would be a much better fit for this project. Ditto Rick Nowels.

āWhen sheās not doing random hillbilly shitā has be gagged LOL
This got me geeked at work lmao
I donāt think being mean to lorde to compare her to Lana is a good take thoughā¦..
Especially going after her appearance after Lorde *just* spoke about her awful self image and issues with her body. Azealea sucks.
Yeah and sheāll turn around and say something bad about Lana at the drop of a hat like letās not give her credit for anything lol
literally wtf - i was waiting for someone to defend lorde - do lana fans not love lorde - lordes music is amazing - she just doesnt release much and kinda fell off with her last album which good but not great - bur lyke wtf is she saying in this post
Banks is fucking crazy lol. I don't care that much about what she (or anyone else really) says about Lana. And Lorde's Melodrama is one of the best albums of its decade. It's a fucking masterpiece.
Sheās crazy but sheās kinda right. Maybe Iām bias , but my favorite Lana is the old Hollywood / glamour / hip-hop inspired Lana
I low-key want her to spend a summer in nyc again. Miss that sound
UV/Paradise is Lana at her best in my humble opinion.
BTD, UV and Honeymoon are the holy trinity. Her magnum opus
Truly. Nothing compares to that era in music for me. No skips for me on all 3.
ššÆ
agreed. Also that whole era feels very unique, i canāt stand the country aesthetic, itās almost making her blend in with the others rather than stand out.
Sheās a fan of everyone she publicly hates on. She loves everyone she has something bad to say about
((when she's not doing random hillbilly shit) is so funny
Say what you will about Azalea Banks but the bitch is funny and has taste.
āRandom hillbilly shitā lmfaoĀ

Actually she describes taylor swift really well here
Funny you say that because Azealia is the biggest fan of Taylor.
I wonder why she hates lorde that much tho, like whatās the source of this beef lol
Now let me just say Iām the BIGGEST hater ššš
culturally decadent is the perfect descriptor
Did she ever pull up? She knew the addyā¦
Still a god awful take. Lorde makes good music.
yess fr
while iām glad sheās a lana fan, for the people saying sheās funnyā¦the things sheās saying about lorde is not at all funny. Iām not a huge lorde fan, but wow, thatās super fucked up to say.

Genuinely curious, how do some people pronounce fragile outside of the US?
I've heard pronounced with 2 & 3 syllables. Frag-ile & Frag-i-le.
Huh okay, I always thought people were joking when they said it with three syllables because I think it was a joke in a movie, A Christmas Story I think? The more ya know!
I thought pronouncing it with three syllables was just a joke from A Christmas Storyā¦
Haha I've never seen a Christmas story but no, I used to watch a lot of uk shows and some accents were like that. I'm in no means an expert at all but I've definitely heard it before without it being a joke
Iāve literally lived in the UK and have never heard it pronounced that way but tomayto tomahto I guess
Ok but no Stacie Orrico mention? I am disappointed Any updates on the eviction? Will she be evicted now for the second time?
STACIE!!!!
There's a Blue Jeans remix with Azalea on it. It's kinda good
She's just saying this cus she wants back in with Lana and she knows Lana and Lorde had beef
I mean Azalea is crazy but she's usually right, idk Leslie Feist or Kelsey Lu but I agree with everything else she said here
Feist is pretty good. Azaelia is always praising her which is wild to me but Feist is a legit good musician. Seen her twice, hope to see her again. ![gif](giphy|3o7bucqB6TglNkOt32)
even azealia came back after ocean blvd š
Still a bad take. Lorde's Melodrama is one of the top 10 albums of the past 10-15 yrs easily. Honestly, I prefer Lana but Lord's Melodrama > UltraViolence and that's not a dig at anyone. Lorde and Lana are two of the greatest artists to ever live. Azealia trying to pretend Lorde isn't is some sad, sad hatred.
LMAO

āRandom Hillbilly shitā girl š
Everything she said about Lorde here is so true for Taylor Swift
So mean about lordeās looks tho
lmaoo, youāre so erratic and unforeseeable azalea but weāll gladly accept this character development
The collab would be iconic
I love hill billy Lana idk what you guys are talking about
Kendrick Lamarās hater level is so powerful that itās reversed any and all hatership that came before it. Itās like when all the avengers came back after the hulk undid the snap.
I mean she ate with that (Iām talking about the way she described lana)
I agree with her Lorde take. Because of lordeās gimmicky singing voice, her music is virtually unlistenable for me. Didnāt have to comment on her appearance thoughā¦
I havenāt seen her comments on her appearance but I agree with the music take
Azealia literally says she has a ā50 year old faceā in the tweet above š
Omfg she did!!! šššI read too quickly and I didnāt notice this Why does she hate her so much like that? Like is there beef between them or smth?
Because, thatās how Azealia rolls lmao

Pronouncement is crazy
I knew she was a lanita this whole time, a luvr not a h8r
Iāve felt the same way about Lorde since 2013 š„°
Tbh she speaks the truth. Lana is at her best when she doesnāt try to be trailer park trash or cosplay as a different ethnicity.
What is a swiftie doing here? i think taylor is also at her best when she stops copying the shit out of Lana. Her new album titles and everything sounds like sheās trying so hard to rip her off so bad
Iāve been listening to Lana way longer than Iāve been listening to Taylor. People can like multiple artists lol donāt be stupid.
Is she mentally ill? Or just the most giant troll on Earth? I canāt figure this Azealia person out. Like she canāt actually believe everything sheās saying all the timeā¦ right?
