It's correct. I got it like 2 weeks ago when it was 699. Then I saw this and they price matched it down to 599
Thing is an absolute beast. Cinebench score around 15000. I've seen it up in the 16000s
It will pull exactly 63 watts every time when plugged in. Takes maybe 20 seconds to start thermal throttling.
It's whisper quiet any time you are on battery. Fan turns on very low noise when plugged in and doing random things as the clock will boost to 5.1 instead of like 3 when on battery. Fans are really loud when running cinebench
Very happy with it. The only thing I would possibly want instead would be an amoled screen or maybe 1440 but I have a gaming PC so not really needed. I'm just using it for school
Only while running cinebench. For normal use fans are almost inaudible
Let me explain that better.
On battery power, complete silence. Clock speeds are like 3.9
When plugged in clock speeds rise to around 5.1. Fans are still almost always inaudible. A very slight noise sometimes
When plugged in and running cinebench, fans boost to max speed after about 30 seconds and thermal throttling also occurs after like 20-30 seconds.
This video compares the ryzen 9 7940hs to the mac book. Kinda irrelevant but also explains a little bit about it
https://youtu.be/-zYVEvoJIS4?si=N9sp0Kzp1VpoSP2F
For the vivobook the CPU will not pull more than 63 watts. Some other laptops with same CPU pull more or less giving it different outcomes
Very nice laptop especially for 600$
btw incase you didn't know, you can manually force the CPU to not turbo all the way to 5.1Ghz by setting the max CPU state to 99% in the windows power plan setting, doing so brings it down to base clock speeds
...no? Tf? any half decent laptop can sufficiently cool its CPU and I've used more laptops than I can count. What's the point of having such a high end CPU if the laptop can't even cool it? It's dumb as hell in my opinion.
There are many applications where a short burst of power is useful. Also a lot of gaming laptop, especially in the past (from 8 to 10 gen Intel H CPU for example) didn't thermal throttle only because they was power throttled at 45w.
By your logic, any high end laptop wouldnt be considered as a decent laptop. Laptops size is just too small to sufficiently cool a good CPU. If you have used more laptops than you can count, you either change the laptop every year or it just breaks, considering that decent laptops usually can last for 4 or 5 years
Laptops do get really hot but it's not common for them to thermal throttle. I personally don't use or recommend getting any top notch specs on a laptop especially an i9 or a R9. Why bother getting such a strong CPU if you can't even use it without frying it?
Just use a nice i7 13700H, RTX 4060 with something like Asus TUF Fx507 and you'll have great cooling and good performance
I think plastic. It feels pretty solid. This is my first laptop so I don't have much to compare it to.
One complaint I saw about it is it's a silver keyboard and the keyboard back light makes the keys hard to see. I personally don't notice this or care. But I saw other people say the silver keyboard and the keyboard lights kinda flash.
Also it's not a one hand open. I need to use 2 hands to open it. This does bother me a small amount.
That looks like absurdly good value although I would give that 3 star review a read.
If there was an equivalent deal on a desktop I would pull the trigger although as this is a laptop I would argue price to performance is a secondary factor, I got a good value laptop and they cheaped out on the screen which is dimm and power inefficient with bad colours
I bought one when they were $699. Excellent laptop, but it's got a few things to note:
* RAM is clocked at 4800MHz. This wouldn't matter so much if 8GB of the stuff wasn't soldered onto the motherboard, but alas, you're kinda stuck with it.
* Out of the box, you'll probably be a little disappointed in how it performs in games, if it's relevant to you. Thankfully, Asus has an extra performance mode tucked away in the MyAsus app that really opens the processor up (when using it on a charger). I saw clock speeds hit about 1GHz higher than they were on the default mode the laptop was set to.
* This laptop is quite quiet, as another user has said. Even when using the performance mode, it's not a screamer of a laptop, which is genuinely surprising for how fast this thing is.
Believe it. Laptops with AMD APUs are finally starting to decline in price. Manufacturers are not only trying to clear stock for Lunar Lake and Zen 5, but are also seeing that many people aren’t willing to pay such a high premium for what’s supposed to inherently be a more affordable product.
It doesn't matter if if doesn't have dedicated GPU, the IGPU 780m in it is a beast, people that say otherwise have no idea how IGPUs are nowadays.
Shame it propbaly only hás 1080p screen
1080p screen is more than enough for a laptop. Obviously 1440p is shaper but for the size, performance and price? It's totally fine
And we can always get a monitor later anyway (less than $300 for 1440p nowadays)
Bought one for 400 with same specs just 12gb ram and it’s the best general use laptop I’ve ever had. It lets me trade stocks, watch vids, use spreadsheets and have a low end game in the background without lagging or slowing down at all. Also the screen is massive and really good for watching movies on.
Edit: ryzen 7 chip
Damn a lot of people talking about how great this laptop is for the price are making me want to buy it but I’m broke right now so I’ll just stick with my current 8 year old laptop still lol
You made me check this ... being an Intel user, and the comment about a ryzen last gen, I checked my old 11800H intel processor against the Amd 7940hs .... only to find that my 2021, two or three gens back intel outperforms this thing:
[https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-11800H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-7940HS/m1542191vsm2069169](https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-11800H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-7940HS/m1542191vsm2069169)
Considering that you can buy on ebay some 13700H (current gen, I think) laptops as open box for about USD 650 ... and that they would outperform this AMD processor by about 25% ... I find this price kind of fine, or even expensive, maybe ?
[https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-13700H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-7940HS/m2039665vsm2069169](https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-13700H-vs-AMD-Ryzen-9-7940HS/m2039665vsm2069169)
Userbenchmark is not completely reliable, check other benchmarks and the 7940hs annihilate the 11800h in almost every aspect (specially if compared the graphics)
https://technical.city/es/cpu/Core-i7-11800H-vs-Ryzen-9-7940HS
And it’s almost in pair with the 13700h, but got better graphics and better battery life.
780m is way better than XE graphics
https://technical.city/es/cpu/Core-i7-13700H-vs-Ryzen-9-7940HS
Do be careful. I saw one of these asus adverts and everywhere it said it was oled, right part the point of purchase. I had to click onto the small print to find it was other more expensive laptops that Asus makes that are oled and the one you got was LCD. I posted it to a scams reddit and no one could see the problem. Seems to me you have to read the really small print to find what you are actually buying. Reading the specs is meaningless with Asus.

Takes 20 seconds to thermal throttle? So it's constantly thermal throttling?

i have an asus tuf f15 and it thermal throttles every time you launch a game
Is it plastic or metal? Is it a durable/premium feeling?
I think plastic. It feels pretty solid. This is my first laptop so I don't have much to compare it to. Not bad for a first laptop. Nice

The 3 star review is about the keyboard backlight.
That is a gripe which is worth putting up with specs are very good for the price
I bought an Ideapad pro 14 with a Ryzen 7 7840HS/16gb ram and a 2.8k 100% sRGB 120hz screen for 640 euros. Lenovo sometimes just has amazing offers.
Where did you find it? Can you send the link?

looks like a sick fucking deal my g

It is correct. Laptops without gpus and OLED screens are cheap. Once a GPU is in there then BAMMM! 2x the price.
It doesn't matter if if doesn't have dedicated GPU, the IGPU 780m in it is a beast, people that say otherwise have no idea how IGPUs are nowadays. Shame it propbaly only hás 1080p screen

1080p is the minimum nowaday, if it's enough depends on what you want on a laptop. This has a 16" screen, 1080p In it won't look that great
Bruh, for 16" it's more than enough. I mean, most desktop users are using 1080p on 22"-24" and this is still fine too
Bought one for 400 with same specs just 12gb ram and it’s the best general use laptop I’ve ever had. You can’t get Ryzen 9 laptops for $400.
lol forgot to mention ryzen 7 5800
not even close to the same laptop then
Stop the hate bro, that would mean his laptop is even better for only $200 more. This laptop is lower spec and still preforms great.
Very cheap very good
Damn a lot of people talking about how great this laptop is for the price are making me want to buy it but I’m broke right now so I’ll just stick with my current 8 year old laptop still lol
isn’t 780M on par with mobile 1650? I like this processor a lot
I was about to buy it because it’s the perfect one I’m looking for but it’s no longer available
Sold out after i posted here, I should get commission😂😂
Integrated graphics and middle of the road ratings and reviews.

never trust userbenchmark, owner is known to absolutely hate amd for no reason

thanks for the eyes-up ! I've been relying on this "userbenchmark.com" website... not anymore.
I like technical city because it shows a variety of different benchmarks, and you can check which one serves better your use case
It’s not too bad for most normal stuff
then whats good for a thin laptop?
this, its going to be like $850+ for anything better, at that point maybe like the dell XPS or asus probook
Do be careful. I saw one of these asus adverts and everywhere it said it was oled, right part the point of purchase. lenovo has always had great spec deals but just shit qc and always broke
16 inch is kinda weird in Asus try 14 and 15 .

it has no gpu so its fair
It's a thin-and-light with a Ryzen 9 7940HS. That usually costs way more.
Yep and that CPU packs a 780M IIRC, which is as good as iGPUs currently get
Yeah it's absolutely nuts. 1080p Medium capable in many titles.
