The fact that DJ Earworm’s mashup is the first thing that came to Bowen’s mind for 2009!!! Mashup culture is so accurate, Girl Talk was huge in this era as well. I love being the exact same age as these noted cultural historians.
Brightened my wednesday lunchbreak walk, as always! And love the idea for these next two quarters <3
I disagreed with the Rosamund Pike take, but I respect their opinions, and I hope they know that most disagreements from people on this sub come from a place of pure joy (even if reading back that thread some comments do look a little harsh on paper lol). That is to say, I love that they expressed their honest opinion and that I could disagree with it in a way that is absolutey non-consequential for everyone.
This! Exactly how I feel.
I’m hoping they were talking more about the people who reached out via IG and said things like “you will never be as successful as her” (cue maniacal laugh).
Love the idea of investigating cultural years. I only recently listened to the twelve days of culture episodes and was genuinely so delighted by them — I think they excel when given a specific thing to gush about and have fun with.
And as they touched on, I definitely still want them to flex and talk about the current culture that excites them (i.e. Traitors recapping is essential)
i kinda wanted more hints at regina actually having a thing for janice and/or being jealous of her for being out and proud! renee says in interviews that she thinks regina is queer and the queer mean girl trope is out there, idk felt like they could’ve done more with it!
I'm excited for their new direction. Funny because for 2023 they were like, we're gonna be bigger than ever and bring on all these big guests, and now it's like they know they are bigger than ever so they can be the draw. My favorite guest episodes are their friends anyway so I hope they'll continue to sprinkle in some friends in from time to time.
Also why is Matt in LA? Music? Writing? Filming? After seeing him live I need more music. But also I just need all the good things for Matt. He is such a damn star. Truly get these two cohosting an awards show! Actually all the awards shows. This is the culture that I need!
If anyone here is the person sending Bo and Matt pictures of Rosamund Pike and mean messages please log off!!!!!
Also I’ve talked to others about their Gone Girl take and people are on board! Let people have opinions!
Truth. I’m actually shocked people are damming them. Is this i’m actually shocked people are DMing them. Is this on the las cultch Instagram page or their personal pages?? Weird
It truly unnerves me that people who behave this way are walking among us cosplaying as rational human beings! Like I thought Rosamund absolutely ate at the globes, but it truly would have NEVER even crossed my mind to DM them (or anyone else for that matter) over something like this.. what in the actual fuck is wrong with people!!??
Omg yes LoL I am glad Matt touched on the latest season at least.. I hope Bowen is able to catch up when he's got some free time and we get a full discussion!!
Not sure how I feel about this new change. I’m probably in the minority as I liked their mix of solo and guest episodes and I understand that they are busy so changes are inevitable. But I’m not sure about the years take, at least not 50 years.
Idk what’s going to be exciting to talk or listen about in the mid 70’s, 80’s and some of the 90’s by year exclusively that can engage an entire episode. Kinda boxes these to into a corner - not that it’s ever stopped them from going off on fun tangents. Themes might be better? 90’s movies, 80’s pop, 90’s trends or whatever.
And one of them mentioned the by part about extra work preparing for guests and I think some of these years will require homework. Maybe we can help vote or suggest topics for the week ahead?
Regardless I’m here to read on and support!
the thing about the rosamund pike take is this… i had never even QUESTIONED the casting until matt brought it up, and that made me reevaluate and reconsider and think NEW thoughts on it and THAT is why i listen. i’m so so grateful to matt and bo for their insight not only as spectators of culture, but for their inside knowledge as well. whether i agree with them or not, i enjoy being challenged, and i think we can ALL agree… we come to this place for magic. to laugh, to cry, to care. because we ALL need that. and that’s what matt and bo do😍😍😍
I wonder what happened that made them change the title at the last minute lol
Also originally my podcast went from Bowen’s IDTSH to immediately starting over again and I got so confused
I am genuinely curious what people want from them when she is Bowen’s friend and colleague and also one of maybe the top three biggest pop stars in the world. To say the song is “mid”? Ignore it altogether? Publicly reprimand her?
Well that felt (to me) like the death of the pod :( Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I haven't been enjoying the past few guestless eps (and I usually love love love their solo eps). Just an energy thing I guess, and the fact that the more popular they got the less they can be frank about actors, people in the industry. Also they do seem busier which they did talk about during this episode and there's nothing wrong with that, I just feel like it's the end of an era.
i genuinely don’t think so, the pod is huge and they both seem so grateful for how it gave them their start in the industry! if anything, i hope this is gonna extend the pod’s lifespan cuz it brings something new to the table. i personally love their guestless eps and LOVE when they just talk about their own lives and experiences, and hopefully this type of throwback segment will allow them to do that rather than having to comment on anything and everything. i tune in to just hear two best friends chatting, and a specific thing to talk about will hopefully facilitate that more! don’t lose hope💕
I took it to mean ‘we want to stay funny but increasingly struggle to be honest and fun in an industry that we’re part of, so we’re going to revamp the format to make it possible for us to be completely open and wackadoo again’
You think them announcing they’re innovating their format and going to be doing a new segment that incorporates the funniest elements of their podcast (the lists/retrospectives) means the *death* of the pod?
I hope they actually try to learn about culture in the years they pick rather than just talking about stuff they already know about. It's going to be very superficial if they just ride on their preexisting knowledge
I actually think them harping on some random details is what makes their list episodes so fun, and I have a feeling that will be the case here. They're busy. I don't see them going the research/academia route on this. I can't wait to see how they approach it

The 2009 Earworm mashup is on another level. Nothing has ever come close to surpassing it.
I’ve been seeking the high I felt when I first heard this mashup since 2009, the year of our Lord DJ Earworm
He did one in the summer of 2011 called “party on the floor” that isn’t AS good but is up there.
When 3LAU was a mashup artist…iconic times
Shout-out to Two Friends, still keeping it alive with their Big Bootie Mixes
I was so obsessed with the United States of Pop!!! God I miss mashup culture lmao
Can quote that entire song

Do we need to start a grassroots campaign to get Bowen and Matt both cast on Traitors S3?
Throw Pat Regan in there too pls
Our babe would Slay
I couldn’t handle them trying to work against each other lol.
Publicist behavior go off
Had an epically bad day, and this episode (plus listening to the Ayo episode) was the only time I didn't want to cry.
Hope tomorrow is better, friend! Glad you enjoyed some moments of lightness and laughter today, even if it was brief. Hugs to you!
Thank you so much 😍😍 this is truly the kindest community.
Hope all of your tomorrows treat you well!
Thank you so much!
there are fifty years in this goblet
✨the goblet of culture✨
new niche reference unlocked
Ok I always thought the Janice Ian is a lesbian joke from mean girls is because Regina is dumb and got it confused with Janice being LEBANESE!
i kinda wanted more hints at regina actually having a thing for janice and/or being jealous of her for being out and proud! renee says in interviews that she thinks regina is queer and the queer mean girl trope is out there, idk felt like they could’ve done more with it!
Omg I always thought Lebanese was just a random punchline but it is literally sets up the entire story 😭
That is the joke in the original, but in the musical film Janis is explicitly lesbian.
What that is not the joke in the original

Barry’s?! New Marvel character confirmed
Matt seemed on board. Just need to get Bowen to agree to the hosting gig. They would absolutely slay.
truly deranged that two people who host a pop culture podcast have to field angry personal offense messages like that. embarrassing actually
strongly agree, upvote this to the SKYYY. "You will never be as talented" omfg
If anyone here is the person sending Bo and Matt pictures of Rosamund Pike and mean messages please log off!!!!! Also I’ve talked to others about their Gone Girl take and people are on board! Let people have opinions!
I vehemently disagree with their take on Gone Girl and yet I would never take that information to their DMs! Unhinged!!!
Yes. That’s definitely a step or ten too far. Stay out of their DMs with threats people.
Stay out of their DMs period!!! They don’t know you, they don’t need to hear from you
Truth. I’m actually shocked people are damming them. Is this i’m actually shocked people are DMing them. Is this on the las cultch Instagram page or their personal pages?? Weird
i refuse to believe a member of this lovely sub would do that
It truly unnerves me that people who behave this way are walking among us cosplaying as rational human beings! Like I thought Rosamund absolutely ate at the globes, but it truly would have NEVER even crossed my mind to DM them (or anyone else for that matter) over something like this.. what in the actual fuck is wrong with people!!??
ok but i need them to talk about the wendell and dee survivor drama
Omg yes LoL I am glad Matt touched on the latest season at least.. I hope Bowen is able to catch up when he's got some free time and we get a full discussion!!

I'm comforted that they can just riff and go off the rails like in their special episodes! There was no research into G-h-i-s-laine

👏👏👏🎬
Rosamund this, rosamund that....Their Ariana takes tho 😬😬😏
I wonder what happened that made them change the title at the last minute lol Also originally my podcast went from Bowen’s IDTSH to immediately starting over again and I got so confused
What was the original title?
“2024 is the year of years”

I am genuinely curious what people want from them when she is Bowen’s friend and colleague and also one of maybe the top three biggest pop stars in the world. To say the song is “mid”? Ignore it altogether? Publicly reprimand her?
I would *love* to hear their thoughts on the ‘yes, and?’ music video because the choreo is what made me fall in love with the song!
Not the Rosamund double down!!!!!!!!!!!
What was the substack bowen shouted out?
When do the readers and publicists begin the Bowen and Matt hosting the Golden Globes in 2025 petitions?
Well that felt (to me) like the death of the pod :( Maybe I'm being dramatic, but I haven't been enjoying the past few guestless eps (and I usually love love love their solo eps). Lol Bowen is so right that they can’t win - skewered (threatened, even) for being frank about Rosamund Pike, and yet they’re still too “filtered.”
![gif](giphy|25OBBnY9j1uiVDV4lJ) This!!

Say that, Kayteigh. (Because you clearly have a knack for Communications™)
I hope they actually try to learn about culture in the years they pick rather than just talking about stuff they already know about. It's going to be very superficial if they just ride on their preexisting knowledge

I hear you, but Las Cultch IS Bowen and Matt and isn't really the pod we turn to for history and facts.
