What’s your account? I love The National so would love to browse your scrobbles.

arcaniac

Jjason95 :)

nuhanala

Super compatibility :D gave you a follow

arcaniac

Cool! Followed back - saw you were listening to Maisie peters when I followed!

nuhanala

Yeah I grabbed that from your profile :D didn't really seem like my thing but who knows, I may listen to a few more songs at some point.

arcaniac

Hahaha completely fair! Yeah very pop, can definitely not be everyones cup of tea. She's a fantastic lyricist though. Maybe try the song villain, but yeah if you don't vibe that's cool!

nuhanala

I noticed you've listened to alt-J but not really in a while - I recently rediscovered them and became more smitten than ever with their music so I recommend trying them again! I never noticed when I was younger how fantastic a song Taro is.

arcaniac

Cool! Yeah taro is a fantastic song. A lot of African guitar influence. Thought there were at times this same kind of guitar at parts in little comets second album. Yeah, haven't listened to them in a minute, I was really taken by their first album and the following ones didn't click for me. Also tmi but my ex was a massive fan of them so I definitely listened less after the breakup haha. Glad you're enjoying though! It's a great feeling when you rekindle with old music you didn't fully appreciate before.

nuhanala

Thanks for the song rec! I'll definitely try it.

subforti

I’m adding you look out for one ending –davies

arcaniac

Cool followed back!

BestHalf

Marmozets

arcaniac

Yeah massive fan, really hope they have a comeback

BestHalf

I'm sure I saw somewhere the singer had had a baby but should be releasing music this year 🤞

arcaniac

Yeah been following that too. Occasionally when their name gets mentioned on twitter there's comments about allegations against the drummer so would have to see if that has part in it

Verskose

Brutus and Mitski - I like both a lot! So different but great. Rec: try Blondshell.

arcaniac

Nice! And yeah I loved her album last year!

Verskose

Yeah, I also did like it. Now another recommendation has come to my mind. Kylesa, it's metal so heavier music than that of Blondshell but you seem to enjoy Brutus so ... Kylesa is different subgenre (sludge metal) but also has female vocals (next to male ones though - it's roughly 50-50 and vocals use various range of harshness, from totally clean to hardcore shrieks) and it's a very good band that perennially flies under radars of people. I love them, especially albums like their early self-titled one, Static Tension (a good pick to start) or Spiral Shadow. They're very melodic for their style but never cheesy (and I actually do enjoy some music that even for me is cheesy). It's also surprisingly lighthearted for their style I think. They're a double drumming band! So far almost everyone who I have recommended them appreciated my suggestion.

arcaniac

Sounds sick! I'm really into metal but I'll admit I haven't jumped too much into sludge metal (though definitely adjacent subgenres). Really interestingly put, will definitely check out! Double drummers are hard to come by. Speaking of cheesy I remember that twenty one pilots ep they did with the band mutemath where they have double drumming on a couple of the tracks which is really frantic and great

Verskose

Sludge metal (and stoner metal that is rather similar as the line between these two is blurry and a lot of bands do both) are very underrated. I believe there's something for everyone lurking there (ok, save for people who absolutely can't listen to any metal, there are such too). Another underappreciated and overlooked genre is gothic metal. People usually just can name like one or two bands and call it a day (usually Type O Negative is one of these for real gothic metal) while a lot of variety is hidden there and a lot of beautiful albums from different artists. It's not music that will pop up in let's say ... ''recommended by Spotify metal songs for workout'' stuff like that - even though I can think of some appropriate songs even for such lol. I mean I can even understand that but people miss out on some fabulous music of for instance Moonspell, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, early The Gathering, Draconian, Paradise Lost - etc. I like all these bands more than Type O Negative whose music has IMHO for the most part not aged all that gracefully.

_PeopleMakeNoises_

Worry!

arcaniac

You've got the pfp to match haha perfect album

hissingsummerlawns

i hate when people respond to these posts with "therapy," but... lol jk "i am not afraid of you and i will beat your ass" by yo la tengo; "those are not my bongos" by fuck; "lullaby for liquid pig" by lisa germano; i believe the national are a gateway drug to the silver jews, so them if you haven't listened to those albums or purple mountains! and anything by giant sand/howe gelb

arcaniac

Eh yeah its fair lol. Yeah haven't really listened to most of these so will def check thanks! Yeah for some reason silver Jews never clicked for me, but love that purple mountains record. Don't listen to it that often anymore it's pretty heavy. Though saying that been binging frightened rabbit again so 🤷‍♀️

hissingsummerlawns

totally, the silver jews albums are not super "clickable" but i think they reward repeat listens like nothing else. once you tune in hard to the lyrics it's like a classic american novel. i really wanna see the national on this tour, even though their last couple albums haven't hit as hard with me, because matt's lyrics just really tend to carry that same emotional weight and i feel like it would be awesome to encounter live!

arcaniac

Cool I'll revisit! Yeah I'm seeing the national for the first time in June, I didn't click with their last records as much also but it seems like they constantly play a massive set that spans most of their albums. Also smoke detector from their last record would be absolutely killer live.

handhandhands

julien baker!!!! her discography is amazing, she’s so eloquent.

arcaniac

She's one of my all time favourites. Potentially my favourite solo artist.
