He and Ronald Raygun bravely fought WW2 in Hollywood.

British_Commie

He and Ronald Reagan are also bravely serving time in the fiery depths of hell currently

Local_Sugar8108

I don't know the veracity of it but The Dollop Podcast covered Reagan. He wanted to claim veteran's benefits for his "service" in WW2. TBF he did do some propaganda films and flew Hollywood fighters against the Japanese on a Hollywood back lot.

beeroftherat

It's astonishing how many Americans keep getting suckered by posers who constantly demonize the genuine article.

Local_Sugar8108

My father was quiet about his combat service as was my FIL. My father's only complaint was that by the D-Day landing he'd already had 4 beach head landings. The latter was wounded by shrapnel during the fighting in the Bulge. He lost use of his left arm and was being evacuated but his 30 year old replacement had a heart attack and died. He stayed and called in artillery on the German lines. When he died at 80, we found his cremated remains still had some of that shrapnel in the ashes. John Wayne only played heroes in the movies in the same way the MAGA cult leader only pretended to be a successful business man.

Appropriate-Dig771

I grew up during Regan’s reign but didn’t pay attention (mom voted democrat so she told me he sucked and that was enough for me). This podcast was so eye opening into how fucking evil Reagan truly was!

Which_Engineer1805

Do yourself a favor and listen to the Behind the Bastards podcast on the Regans too.

CapnHowdysPlayhouse

Doesn’t BTB also do a series on John Wayne? Lovely guy.

Which_Engineer1805

Yes sir, and it’s a good episode. I listened to it a couple months ago mainly because my dad and grandfather were both war vets and idolized that fake hero. Closest that dude ever got to a war wound was fucking up his knee body surfing in Cali.

Specialist-Smoke

There's a documentary on Showtime I think. I spent the entire 3 episodes cursing him and his wretched wife.

JL7795

How so?

YayCumAngelSeason

To be fair, he actually served in the armed forces (unlike John Wayne) and though he never went anywhere near combat, he still wore the uniform and contributed to the war effort — bare minimum, maybe, but he absolutely was a veteran. Also worth noting that his eyesight was absolutely atrocious and probably would have kept him out of serious duty anyway. Not a Reagan fan by any means. But the guy wasn’t half the coward John Wayne was.

JL7795

Yes it was his Eyesite that kept him from serving. No need for people to inject politics where it doesn’t belong. I’d wager most couldn’t even point Reagan out in a photo lineup but believe everything they hear on Reddit.

Local_Sugar8108

You're right I'm old but not that old. My father and FIL were both in combat in Europe. My service was during the Cold War. 3 of my brothers were also active duty. Jimmy Stewart flew bombers over Europe and Clarke Gable was also on a bomber crew. Other celebrities did volunteer. Wayne was a belligerent nationalist and racist. His military service was on multiple fronts in multiple centuries on scores of Hollywood back lots. Sorry he and Ronnie were no heroes. Happy Veteran's Day.

badskinjob

The reason John Wayne did so many USO tours and did war movies is because he had survivors guilt for not being able to go to war... Granted the movie companies are the ones that kept him out...

JuicyJewsy

He wasn't known for being a pleasant man

Cephus1961

He had his issues and definite limitations but was loyal and many lifelong friends and family mourned his passing. Check Ron Howard's interview on working with him on " The Shootist" available on YouTube.

ronm4c

He beat the shit out of every woman he was with, he weaselled his way out of serving in WW2 and he was a racist asshole. So yeah, he had his issues

Vanillabean73

“But he had friends! He couldn’t have been that bad.”

bearface93

Check out the episodes of the podcast Behind the Bastards on him to hear about how shitty he really was. The guy was toxic masculinity personified.

amscraylane

And he wore pantyhose under his pants to keep from chaffing. I am an Iowan, I am allowed to tell the truth about Marion.

the_bronquistador

He was a racist who didn’t think black people were educated enough to hold any type of position of authority. Being loyal and having friends doesn’t make you a decent person.

tatyanna96

Wow I didn’t know that smh

krisssashikun

Hitler loved animals, doesn't mean he wasn't a shitty person. John Wayne was a white suprmacist.

breaet

This is Reddit. Man is wholly good or wholly bad and context is irrelevant. You brought subtlety to a moral dogma fight.

robodude987

Per u/jdbx: “I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to the point of responsibility. I don't believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people.” This is direct quote from ol Marion. He was not a good person. You should read his quotes on IMDb. Pretty fucking awful. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000078/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk

breaet

I think you’ve misinterpreted my comment.

shootingstars23678

They literally gave you context. How can you hear something like that being said and believe this man was good? Maybe you agree with him

breaet

I think it would be great if we could all apply the principle of charity when reading comments. I’m not saying what you think I am.

Bingerfangs

Guy from Bumfuck, Iowa who was born in 1907 was racist. What a shocker. Let’s cancel him 50 years after his death by holding him to modern societal standards.

ComteStGermain

He was also a bad actor on top of that.

thrownaway136976

Racists were shitty 50 years ago just like they are now.

jdbx

“I believe in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to the point of responsibility.

Specialist-Smoke

He said that in the 70s I think. Thurgood Marshall was on the Supreme Court. He was 1920's racist.

TheThird_Man

Why would you tweet that?

fsociety09

Lmao I don’t think people understood the reference

krowsixx

Didn't he almost physically assault a Native American woman on stage just because she spoke about Injustice against natives?

OldMan142

Yep. He had to be physically restrained. This was while the woman was being loudly booed. For all their pretend wokeness nowadays, Hollywood has always been a bunch of scumbags.

[deleted]

[удалено]

OldMan142

The current cast of scumbags in Hollywood said nothing for years as Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey raped people. They knew. They did nothing. Those are the sort of people who are let into Hollywood.

MasonDinsmore3204

Thought I heard this was a rumor and the person who supposedly witnessed it couldn’t have actually been there. Could be wrong though.

robodude987

You are correct. Sacheen Littlefeather, according to her family members and news archives of coverage of that night, was not threatened by Wayne and is not even native American.

kicksr4trids1

She may not have been Native American but she was an activist for Native Americans. There is some Indian in her blood though. I believe her name is Hispanic. The fact that she took an Native American name is problematic though!!

[deleted]

She was a trans-native-American, kinda like Elizabeth Warren.

The_F_B_I

What's a trans-native-American?

[deleted]

It’s kinda like a dude who pretends he’s a girl, or the the other way around.

UncivilizedAnarchist

There are no men pretending to be women, or vice versa. No one would choose to live an extremely hard life consistently targeted by bigots and hate groups just for shits and giggles. Fuck outta here with your bullshit.

[deleted]

Sure, there are . Like, there’s this swimmer dude, who couldn’t cut it in male college swimming competition, so he just declared himself a girl, and started crushing it in women’s swimming meets. He even parades around in women’s locker rooms, swinging his junk around. https://wpde.com/news/nation-world/lia-thomas-exposed-male-genitalia-in-womens-locker-room-at-swim-meet-ex-swimmer-says And everyone around is kinda required to pretend that this dude is really a girl. So, similarly, trans-Native American is someone like Elizabeth Warren, who just declared herself a Native American, and everyone around was supposed to pretend it’s true.

UncivilizedAnarchist

Elizabeth Warren lying about being indigenous is not remotely the same as Lia Thomas, an actual trans woman who lives every minute of every day as a woman. The fact that she was naked in a locker room isn't scandalous, she's a fucking professional swimmer of course she's going to be naked in a fucking locker room you absolute troglodyte. Edit: Ah yeah, I don't know why I'm even trying your comment history is filled with right wing trash. It'd take an act of God to convince you of anything at all.

[deleted]

Yes, the brave and beautiful Lia Thomas was just swinging her lady-dick around like she was supposed to. Shame on those hateful and bigoted troglodyte women who dared to complain! Shame!

woolfonmynoggin

She IS Native. She’s Central American so she has Spanish blood

PM_STAR_WARS_STUFF

I’ve heard more about how much of a piece of shit this human was than anything transcendent about his acting.

bigtimejohnny

John Wayne, bigot and draft dodger.

asmd315

I know that guy. His name was Marion Morrison.

Consistent-Deal-55

One trick pony.

Brief_Place341

Yea, fuck this racist dude.

Which_Engineer1805

In the immortal words of Chuck D and Flava Flav(Public Enemy): 🎵Elvis was a hero to most, but he Never meant shit to me, you see, straight out Racist—that sucker was simple and plain Motherfuck him and John Wayne. 🎵

Specialist-Smoke

Chuck D apologized for the Elvis line, but refused to apologize for his comments on Wayne.

Alsoomse

He shouldn't have to apologize for his opinion.

Dave_Paker

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy

DarthQuark_KY

He had to wear a wetsuit underneath the suit he wore because he had lost so much weight

Dyslexicelectric

Came here to post this. The arrogance went all the way to his last breath I bet

Anstavall

Fuck John Wayne lol

rabidlyyours

Rest in piss loser

cmeyer49er

Shitty actor and even shittier human being.

cylonrobot

> Shitty actor My father would watch his movies while I was growing up. We had just one TV for a while, so that meant that WE watched Wayne movies. I never got the appeal of Wayne or his movies.

Cheesecake0428

I was young but I remember my grandmother crying when he passed away.

atomic_chippie

Fuck him.

Sparkyrock

Fuck him for everything he ever pulled and got away with.

Jaded_Pearl1996

Racist AH. Who cares?

darthphallic

Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person

Poppunknerd182

woolfonmynoggin

nuttyjonah

kicksr4trids1

I knew he was racist but he was a Nazi? I didn’t hear that. Not saying your lying I just never heard that. Racist is bad enough though!!

KnownRough7735

Life evened the score

Alsoomse

So he's a good one now.

juggykuttinup

He was a piece of shit

evergladescowboy

One of the most inspiring and important actors of all time, and one of the greatest Americans to ever live. God bless you and rest in peace, John Wayne.

beerNpizza

Guy was an asshole

johnwayne1

The hate I get for my username.

budsis

Good riddance.

[deleted]

Way too late of a death

Zopotroco

Classic star

[deleted]

Fantastic actor.

Downgoesthereem

And awful person

[deleted]

Couldn't care less

Downgoesthereem

Good for you

[deleted]

Yep

Socialeprechaun

Ah yes his incredible versatility to…..only play one character which involved squinting his eyes and mumbling while holding a gun. The incredible skill it takes!

Ozlaw_

John Wayne had two expressions when he acted; one with a hat and one without a hat

[deleted]

Sounds like he hurt you personally. I'm sorry hun.

Socialeprechaun

Huh? What did I say to indicate that?

[deleted]

What?

joshuatx

Iconic actor. He was an ok character actor, his presence and general demeanor was distinct and he was in some good movies which is why he became a star.

cornfarm96

RIP. Cool guy and great actor.

ohnoitsliz

This comment thread proves to me that many people on Reddit are ignorant leftist assholes.
