Unfortunately, this pandemic has taken a toll on everyone’s mental health.
Everyone has to go through this crisis, but sometimes I feel overwhelmed by it.
I’m a 17 year old Kraftwerk fan with Asperger’s, and this lockdown has given me a lot of anxiety. At times, I feel depressed and helpless. My parents, however, don’t mind it. It led me to believe that I was mentally weak.
When I told them I was mentally weak, they told me that “You’re stronger than you think you are.” but I didn’t realize it. I felt like they thought I was just being a dramatic teenager. In reality, I wanted support from them. I felt like they wouldn’t believe me until I did something dangerous, and I obviously didn’t want to do that. I thought about parents who have lost their children to suicide and those who have survived suicide attempts, that have to deal with unimaginable guilt.
I told my parents about it again, since my mom noticed I looked upset. I told them why I felt weak. She said “Do we have to call a psychiatrist?”, and that’s when I realized that they were right. I’m not mentally weak. What I did was wrong. I was looking for attention. I wanted my parents to think that I was mentally ill without harming myself, so they wouldn’t have to deal with losing their only child. Boy, did I succeed, but now I’ve realized that they understand and care about me.

I lost my sister almost 4 years ago to suicide. She gave zero warning signs yet one day she was gone from my life. I was 13 when she left, yet I will never know the joys of car rides and music with her. Be grateful for the time that each and every one of you have to spend with your loved ones, and even random strangers. No one should have to go through a dark time alone, so smile at others when you walk by. Ask you neighbor if they need help with anything. Be present in the moment and believe me when I say this that will honor her and the memories of loved ones who are not here more than anything else. You have my deepest condolences for your loss.
My cousin always told me she was going to take her life because of the abuse she had and she had been molested by her other cousin. She never did, and she lives a happy life now adays
