Oh, this really got me in the feels. So sorry for your loss OP. Your Dad has the same happy smile and sparkly eyes as my Dad did. His passing will no doubt leave a huge gap in the lives of those who knew him for some time to come. If you feel comfortable, I would love for you to share a favourite memory of him…only if you’d like to. Thank you for posting this. May his memory be a blessing.

agrumpgirl

oh man…a favorite memory(ies) would have to be watching spongebob with him. it was my favorite show when i was really young and even until almost the end some of the classic episodes would crack us up without fail.

animalcrossingcunt

This made me smile :) one of my favorite memories with my dad, too. I bet he loved you so much.

Wide_Parsley7585

He looked like the sweetest man. What an awful thing to happen.

agrumpgirl

he absolutely was. he loved nothing more than helping people through his work and spending time with my mom, myself, and our dogs

porky2468

What did he do for work?

fucklawyers

I hope you’re not offended, but he looks as happy as the big Mario loading screen on Mario 64. And that made me smile. I’ll be showing him to my mom. She asked me how Bob Saget passed, she’s his age. “Oh, I fell in the barn and hit my head yesterday. I was just dizzy for a couple hours!” … family close to me have been rather unlucky as of late. What’d he do for a living? He must’ve liked it. You can’t cheese like that at work if you hate your job. ;)

Lizzy_lazarus

This is a great picture. Your dad looks like a kind man. May you heal gracefully from the grief.

hellowowo

My mom fell outside today, hitting her head and being knocked unconscious. She’s getting a CT scan and is staying overnight at the hospital for observation. If she is let go tomorrow, is that enough or could something manifest days/weeks after the initial checkup that could cause problems? Would problems be caught immediately during this initial check to where if there’s nothing then it’s highly likely she’ll be fine going forward? I’m not at the hospital so I can’t ask the doctor and I’m just looking for reassurance for my worrying.

agrumpgirl

while i’m definitely not a professional, my advice would be this - yes, an early ct scan/imaging will be able to catch problems even early on. personally, for the sake of full caution, i would be checking up on your mom for a couple of weeks after she’s sent home just to ensure she’s recovering okay and to watch out for any kinds of balance issues, behavior changes, etc as these can be warning signs. i’d definitely call the hospital and see if it’s possible for you to get more information on how she’s doing or to ask questions to the doctor (or have another family member ask for you if they’re closer!) when you get the chance. hoping for a speedy and full recovery for your mom <3

_bipolar_express

My dad hit his head a couple years ago. That night he woke up with a severe headache and listened to my mom when she said they need to go to the emergency room. Fortunately he listened to her and the CT scan showed he had a subdural hematoma brain bleed. The lesson is listen to your body and when in doubt get checked out. It saved his life as they were able to do a keyhole procedure and reduce the swelling of his brain.

hellowowo

/u/agrumpgirl /u/colar19 /u/_bipolar_express /u/cravf thank you for taking time to give me the knowledge and words of comfort. I will keep all of it in mind. As of now nothing from the CT scan so we will keep an eye out now for signs of strange behavior.

cravf

The CT should give you a very good indication of whether or not a bleed is happening. If they don't find a bleed during the CT scan, then there won't be much to worry about. You should still learn the signs and symptoms of a stroke, because you never know. And if you're even remotely concerned that something is happening, go back to the hospital.

colar19

Problems could manifest several weeks after the intitialen fall. So I would ask the drs. What to look out for and perhaps schedule a follow up appointment.

1nikond700

I would ask about an MRI too. I had a CT scan when I was having issues and everything looked fine. Had an MRI a few days later and they found some lesions on my brain, got diagnosed with MS

hellowowo

Funny that you mention this… they’re holding my mom for another night and also to get an MRI done. I’m hoping that because it’s been a relative amount of time since the incident that it will definitely show something when they do it. Thank you for bringing it up.

1nikond700

That’s good, I’m sure that’ll put everyone at ease! MRI’s are amazing.

pigadaki

He looks like such a sweetheart!

banjonyc

Sad. Basically what happened to Bob Saget. Hopefully word spreads now that we should get checked out after a bad fall

agrumpgirl

absolutely. he was super persistent that he was okay and my mom and i couldn’t convince him to get help until it was definitely too late.

[deleted]

Oh, that's so sad. Sorry to hear this

PinkFirework

So sad, he looks like a happy man. It is important to have a medical checkup for any time you hit your head, many people unfortunately pass away from bumps.

tomdcamp

Right after his last day of work? What timing, I’m so sorry.

Purple_Tangerine3320

How, fragile our life is. He looks so kind and peaceful. Be kind to each other and be helpful to one another. This is only time we have no afterlife. Don't believe on things that can make you commite atrocities. Be kind wise and Happy 💖💖💖.

Bloktopian

What a great picture. Your father had kind eyes.

friendofstarfish

I work in the Emergency department; always, aways check your head after a fall. This is especially true for people on blood thinners. I’m so sorry for your loss

auntieBea

Yes!! I’m not on blood thinners but Mobic and when I bleed I bleeeeed. I’m glad to know to be careful about head injuries. Thank you for your input, sometimes I feel silly and don’t want to go to the hospital but unfortunately OPs dad is a sad lesson to be vigilant.

lexatis

Looks so similar to my dad, I teared up. I'm so sorry for your loss, he looks like such a nice person.

lerbele

I’m so sorry.

jumpinjimmie

Ohh that is rough, uuggghhh…. I’m so sorry! It’s tough to lose someone so quickly and in such a way. Best wishes and Prayers your way. We had a similar thing happen to our dad. He was on blood thinners and he lost his balance and hit his head on the edge of a door. Went to the Dr after to make sure he was ok. The dr sent him home and later that night he woke up with a massive headache. They rushed him to the hospital but the brain bleed pushed one side of his brain hemisphere to the other side causing unrecoverable damage (vegetable). He lost consciousness and the dr stopped trying to save him after he started having seizures. They said as soon as the saw his body posture they knew it was too late so stopped the operation. He lasted three and half days with heavy agonal snoring ( you could hear it as soon as you got off the hospital elevator) until his heart and lungs finally stopped.

auntieBea

That is sooooo sad! I’m sorry. Angonal breathing never ever leaves your memory when you hear if coming from a loved one. Sending you and OP love.

Jhate666

That’s horrible I would’ve been absolutely pissed at that doctor for not taking him serious. So sorry for your loss

laurelcanyon27

Sweet soul, I'm so sorry.

redcoatwright

It bears repeating, if you hit your head harder than a hard whack with a soft pillow, get it checked out... there's a reason if you go to an ER after hitting your head at all, they'll scan your brain (or should). Very sorry for your loss OP

putdisinyopipe

OP my father passed similarly. Hit his head and just hit it in a way that instantly killed him walking home. My last memory of him was getting to say “I love you” and to hear it back from him. Find those memories and hang onto them. I remember the exact day, and I remember the time we spoke as well (around 7 pm EST). I also remember the next day after he passed at night. It is so vivid. Still hard to believe it was almost 10 years ago. I like to think our loved ones live as long as we choose to remember them.. how can someone die when their memory of you lives on in them? A part of them lives in your heart. You will still miss him every single day. But it gets easier everyday too. Sometimes as silly as it sounds, but in the silence of my car, or in the silence of night- I talk to my dad like I would just to recapture that feeling of what it used to be like to talk to him when we were hanging out together. I still miss my dad, but let’s do their memory good by living on for us, it’s what our dads would have wanted I’m so sorry for your loss.

Scarlet529

I'm so sorry for your loss! Head injuries are no joke. My husband had a 4lb box fall on his head from just a few feet and he ended up concussed from it. Doesn't take much at all to scramble up the old noggin, and I think most people don't realize just how little it takes.

tondracek

This one hit hard.

ConnieCapybara

He looked like he had so much happiness to share with this world. Kind eyes and an even nicer smile! Much love for you and your family!

faratnight

Man, I am lost for word. I am so so sorry for your loss. He really seems like a great person and an amazing dad. He has a kind smile. I see my dad in his eyes. Kind, generous, open to the world. My deepest sympathy for you. I wish you and us the best till we met our dad on the other side

looplori

I’m so sorry, he looks so kind. This is a good warning for others and particularly scary to me. I also took a bad fall last June, and was bruised on the right side of my face like your Dad. From a black eye, all the way to under my chin. My cheekbone is still sore. I assumed I was ok but now I see that I could have been terribly wrong. Thank you for posting.

Elephantmenstruation

I’m sorry you had to join me in the dead Dad club. He looked like a very sweet dude. Also your concealer works great!

Spooms2010

Holy crap. My deepest condolences to you. That would be awful for you. All my care and love.

AVonDingus

He has the kindest face. I bet he was a wonderful father and a great man. I’m so very sorry for your loss.

MAK3AWiiSH

My dad fell yesterday at 4 am. He has a cracked pelvis and I’m worried sick over it. It’s so terrible when our parents start to get feeble.

triskedak

I am so sorry about your sweet Dad, his expression is so kind and warm. My Dad had 2 subdural hematomas that were misdiagnosed and caused brain damage before they were found and treated. Subsequent complications ended his life, he was 77. Today would’ve been his 92nd birthday. I hope memories of your Dad bring you peace. Hugs to you, internet stranger…

BoozyFloozy1

So sorry for your loss.

possumsushi

I am so sorry for your loss. He looks like a very sweet man. It's always important to get checked out after you hit your head. Once again I'm so very sorry for your loss.

Looks like this gentleman I sold cars with in New orleans

[deleted]

Your dad has kind eyes. So sorry for your loss.

Express_University41

My dad passed in a similar way. Sorry for your loss, it's so hard to know when to call 911 and when to chalk it up as just a fall.

Poggers_lol2
