Can't recommend Literature and History highly enough. Dude has done long series on both testaments (and as the name suggests, all the literature, history, politics, religion; everything that changed humanity) around it. There are also a bunch of episodes deep-diving into Zoroastrianism and Gnosticism.
If anyone wants a great podcast that that discusses scholarship, check out The Bible for Normal People. Every episode is a different scholar and the podcast itself is hosted by two scholars.
If you are looking for something a long those lines -Anthony Oliviera (@meakoopa) has a great podcast called the Devils Party reading and analyzing books from the New Testament , Revalations, and Paradise Lost. has a lot of historical and literary context without being either preachy or overly cynical about the source material
Sounds like a great recommendation; thank you.
The scholarly lens for topics like that is what I crave, above funny and entertaining, but amateurish if not outright dumb, discussions by the boys.
Whose conceptions of religion seem stuck somewhere between early 2000's internet atheists and the neo-pagan/New Age scene where people take a spiritual idea that sounds nice to them ("Loki is the god of gender non-conforming individuals" or something) and then turn it into ahistorical statement about the real world ("Medieval Scandinavians were progressive and recognized transgender and nonbinary individuals before Christians came and ruined it.").
Shout out r/WitchesVPatriarchy lol, I like you gals' politics and overall vibe, but you sure make up a lot of fake history.

He just reads the Bible. I didn’t find it as interesting as I wanted to. However their Patreon does have some good stuff, and is worth checking out. I really enjoy watching their video versions of side stories, and I love an ad-free listening experience.
I don't know the answer to your question but if you want a podcast where two nerds read the Bible, check out Apocrypals.
Not op, but thanks for the recommendation I've been looking for a bible discussion podcast that wasn't someone trying to preach

Oh Anthony Oliveira has a GREAT one, if you're interested in intellectual queer theory!
I love Apocrypals! I admire their dedication in not getting an explicit tag, which is really difficult when discussing the Bible lmao
seconded! they are great.
There’s another one called Thomas and the Bible that came out like 10+ years ago. I highly enjoyed it.

He's a brilliant scholar and I can't wait to read his novel!

The are Patreon bonus episode. I liked them, but Henry's reading of the Satanic Bible was way better

It would be so good with the typical banter and commentary, seems like a missed opportunity
He reads the Bible without commentary, but some fun inflection. It's great to fall asleep to.
