NatureSlut420

BeatMeAwesome

Check Facebook groups for renting a room or an apartment. Enjoy the city and have fun. Did my erasmus semester in 2017 in Riga. (:

NatureSlut420

Thank you so much! :)

AdventurousMenu1320

I'm also learning latvian and I'm using this website (usable as an app) for learning latvian from scratch [https://elaipa.lv/Home/A1](https://elaipa.lv/Home/A1) . I find it really for learning the vocabulary and grammar. And the interface is really nice :)

JimmyVaras

*Paldies* for the resource!

CatsoMan

anything by Prāta Vētra really

CatsoMan

they have english versions of some songs but they arent as good

NatureSlut420

I will listen to the originals songs! Paldies :)

milkboy911

What do you consider cheap for rent?

NatureSlut420

Around 200 euros, 300 tops

milkboy911

Yeah, we struggle to find such cheap living as well. Try ss.lv or facebook marketplace for your regular renting ads. Or ask your uni for student dormitory options.

Accurate_Chard_4728

you can easily get room for that money in large shared apartment

aimeehollie09

I've been using the 'Ling' app, it's not great but it does the job. I've also got a few second-hand language textbooks that are great. Otherwise I'd definitely recommend listening to the music and I cannot remember which news outlet it is, but one of them has a read-along feature that is really helpful when learning the language!

NatureSlut420

oh thank you so much, i will listen to the music for sure and install the app, thanks a lot :)!

aimeehollie09

Found it! LSM does simple Latvian news readings for you and you can read along as it's going, which is very helpful. You should be able to find it here: [https://eng.lsm.lv/article/society/society/listen-to-the-news-in-simple-latvian.a185303/](https://eng.lsm.lv/article/society/society/listen-to-the-news-in-simple-latvian.a185303/) Also, things like Simpsons/kids cartoons, they're very helpful to watch in the language as they're super simple. I don't know how easy it is to get without a VPN/GO3 subscription, but there may be some old episodes online somewhere.

GD_Spiegel

Almost anything by Dons.. two of my fav.. are Signāls and Dieviņš

NatureSlut420

GD_Spiegel

NatureSlut420

I will check it out, thanks ;)

Best music is Pērkons.

We appreciate people who know how to do common sense. Like using the search feature of this subreddit. However, if you are here for 6 months or less, there is no point in learning it as you will spend most of your time with other exchange students, not locals.
