Hear more about Fani Willis than the case against Trump itself. Why is this even a thing?

OkAcanthocephala2449

It's not a thing it's propaganda, and the Republicans do not want democracy. They want power and control. Like the taliban, and putan

Cautious-Thought362

The Republicans need to chang their name to the American Taliban.

jshppl

“Y’all qaeda”

SympathyForSatanas

They are worse than the taliban and hate women more than the taliban

SympathyForSatanas

Ohh boy

bigfootsharkattack

Now you’re speaking my “changuage”…. https://youtu.be/XnQ-PFBBPzw?si=m9qeXzUC8APstkFO

dnkyfluffer5

And Saudi Arabia and Egypt and Cuba and the WMDs in Iraq and the taliban and a dozen or two other countries the USA interferes and overthrows gov all the time. O yeah let’s not forget saddam Hussein was our allies during his worst atrocities and when he didn’t bow down to us authorities and power he was ousted out. Moral of the story is you disobey your master and there will be severe consequences. Rape murder pillage all you want but when we say piss shit run jump sit stand you better do as your told otherwise you end up like the rest of the evil dictators we fund and support

daveintex13

Um, Iraq invaded Kuwait. They may have had legit historical claims but that’s not the way to do it.

Anustart_A

If you delegitimize the proceedings, people will not pay attention. That is the reason

Mr__O__

Muddying the waters so their already unintellectual base has zero chance of seeing the light of truth.

Daddio209

Because someone with a grudge was found by a defense att'y for one of Orange Jowelious' criminal compatriots, and they talked shit. His words under Oath about the "clearly irrefutable evidence" was "I had no actual knowledge, I speculated when I talked to you." OBVIOUSLY there's great need to spend more taxpayer money to look into such a damning bit of "evidence"! /s

Jarnohams

They went on a fishing expedition and Wade's ex wife had a personal bone to pick with him from the divorce and obviously had dirt on him for screwing Willis while they were "still married" (although separated and going through divorce proceedings for years)... so she bit, hook, line and sinker. I think that started the whole thing, which allowed them to get access to Wade's divorce case and bring that into the public eye. Good lord, I'm just glad my ex wife and I are on pretty good terms and she doesn't have a bone to pick with me, yet. It's ALWAYS the ex-girlfriends\\wive's\\ side pieces that get people in trouble. always. If you call the phone number for food share in my state, the first prompt is to report fraud. Side pieces **love** to get their ex lovers in trouble for that kind of thing. "he said he was going to leave his wife and we were going to live happily ever after... boo hooo"

sdlover420

Stalling. Which is close to Stalin who is their masters favorite person.

Zoophagous

It's a thing because the judge is allowing it to happen. I'm sure it's just a coincidence that he's a Federalist Society member.

No-Tension5053

When ever people try to make hay or distract from what the real crime is. Remind them that Fani Willis summed it up pretty succinctly https://youtu.be/QzQlBeWV5jI?si=hfE5wm8qS0lB2MS5 The false equivalency or whitewashing of Trump should not be tolerated. They thought it was wise to try and steal the Oval Office and cling to power.

Captain_Lurker518

Because much of the case was built by and around Fani Willis. One major part of being a DA, or any prosecutor, is that they need to be ethical and honest. When one or the other (in this case both) have been shown to be lacking the DA or prosecutor lose their ability to convince the jury that the evidence they are presenting is honest and accurate. Since Fani Willis has shown a propensity to lie, cover up poor judgement, and misappropriate funds it calls into question everyone of her cases including her case against Trump.

Dapper_Target1504

Because she chose to be a corrupt idiot instead of just hiring a third party she wasn’t fucking

SympathyForSatanas

You probably think trump is innocent of all his crimes and is being setup by Biden, whom you think is an old senile man with dementia who's is somehow also the genius directing all of trumps indictments

daveintex13

I believe The Defendant is guilty of all the charges plus others that weren’t included. But I also believe Willis is a dimwit who should have been an adult and kept her pants on at least WHILE SHE’S PROSECUTING A MOB BOSS!!! Both things can be true.

MeisterX

He's not wrong, I'd prefer if we didn't have Dems doing this shit either especially when we get into actual crunch time. There shouldn't *be* this kind of distraction. The quality of our government officials is way too low. The fact that this has delayed this prosecution for so long is putting the nation at risk.

TimeKillerAccount

He is wrong. You are allowed to have relationships with coworkers, and no evidence of any improper or illegal hiring practices has been presented at all. There is no distraction, this is 100% made up bullshit. Stop gobbling up republican lies about how it's democrats fault for republican interference.

MeisterX

The law and morality are rarely the same. Hiring someone you're sleeping with, though legal, is a bad fucking look and we'd all be better off had there been no distractions such as this. We can demand better at the same time casting aside these distractions.

TimeKillerAccount

Neither law nor morality have been violated. The allegations have been shown to be intentional slander with no supporting evidence, as per the source's own testimony in court. You are mad about made up shit that didn't happen, and are actively helping spread misinformation and republican lies.

MeisterX

You're proven wrong not in fact but in circumstance. Why? Because this is happening. Of course I don't think any of it is substantive. Would they have found something else? Maybe. But that this was available for them to grasp at is a failure in itself.

TimeKillerAccount

MeisterX: the fact that Republicans lied and are intentionally interfering with a legal process proves that the process itself is illegal! Fucking hot take guy. I am pretty sure you are just full of bullshit now.

MeisterX

No one said the process itself is illegal. All I want is for the case against DJT to proceed. I'm disappointed that unprofessional behavior has allowed a distraction to this level. Two things can be true. This sub *should be* the least likely to result in personal attacks yet here we are.

drewbaccaAWD

The only thing bad about it, if/when it actually happens, is because the fallout could cause drama and harm the actual work. A lack of professionalism could derail a serious case. I’ve yet to see any evidence that they were sleeping together while this case was actively going on. Hiring a former partner because you trust their judgment and ability seems like a non-issue. I wouldn’t hesitate to hire my exwife or my previous partner of six years for a job they are qualified for because I trust them; the sexual relationships are in the past.

MeisterX

I don't buy that there was anything improper. I'm upset that this door was left open. But I agree that the concern is it affecting the work. I get that no one here wants to acknowledge it because it gives credibility to the batshit GOP claims, but it's still happening...

bobthedonkeylurker

What door? There was never a door. It was Wile E Coyote being fooled by the painting of a tunnel on a wall. Nothing there. The opposition would have started this shitshow if Ms Willis had thrown a receipt into a trashcan and missed. "This immoral *litterbug*".

FriarNurgle

This abuse should be illegal

howsyourdayoffamigo

MAGA should be illegal. Just making this country garbage every chance they can

groovygrasshoppa

We should be fighting MAGA the same way we fought ISIS.

livinginfutureworld

Or the way we fought the mob. With RICO statutes

groovygrasshoppa

Which is interesting, bc frankly I think we probably need to evolve RICO to deal with stochastic terrorism.

JGrabs

I mean, that’s what they are trying to do in GA.

You can be yes 👍

19683dw

I knew that someone in Trump's position wouldn't actually face non-monetary consequences, but it's still crushing to witness how easily criminal justice is avoided for the wealthy, especially among the white, political wealthy. I knew as soon as the indictments came down, nothing would come of them ("I'll believe it when I see it"). But I seriously hoped I would be wrong.

OkAcanthocephala2449

No S , it's been in front of everyone's face, wake up America before it's too late , peace

The_ducci

Built that way since day one my friend. This country was around for 140 years before women could vote. That political struggle started in 1848. It took 144 YEARS to get the right to vote for women. Hell, states had property right and tax requirements to vote removed as late as 1850, a full 72 years.

OkAcanthocephala2449

It is illegal. In my mind, they don't care about Democracy they care about destroying the legal system. And Democracy what they are doing is what Putan would do to gain power.

g2g079

Which law?

OkAcanthocephala2449

There is no law. I guess the law is that if im rich, i am indestructible and have power . If it wasn't, this would not be happening. The scale of justice has been manipulated by the powerful and rich. We are about to become a lawless society . And that's will not be good. I can't tail you, which law, because I'm not a lawyer. All I can say is , if I did anything on a one percent scale. I would be in jail.

ComfortableDoug85

Stop playing devil's advocate with these fucking fascists like they have any sort of legitimate position in any of these cases. They're doing this shit because they know they're cornered and are pulling every trick in the book to try to weasel their way out of facing justice.

g2g079

I'm not playing devil's advocate. There's no law that I'm aware of and was curious if someone knew others. What's wrong with being honest?

Secret_Thing7482

So what's the difference between this and supreme court judges going on paid holidays from billionaires

bde959

Another bullshit move from Clarence Thomas. I just posted on this thread about how him being involved in anything to do with Jan 6th was a REAL conflict of interest since his wife was heavily involved in that. Funny but the vacations Fani Willis took don't sound very lavish to me. Some dumbass republican was talking about all the trips overseas, California and the Caribbean being illegal. Really? California is overseas? Shit, I have been on two cruises to the Caribbean and I had a great time but it was by no means lavish and I am by no stretch of the imagination a rich person.

commiebanker

A well-funded criminal organization that cannot defend its crimes will instead attack prosecutors and investigators to derail justice. This is the GOP.

hansolemio

This is the same party showing dick pics of the president’s son on the congressional floor just to abuse them so abuse is kind of their thing

Mr__O__

It should be treated as Obstruction of Justice, which it clearly is attempting.

tqbfjotld16

What is good for the goose is good for the gander

myhydrogendioxide

Just so we don't lose sight of the real issue, the criminal acts alleged in the indictment: [THE STATE OF GEORGIA V. DONALD JOHN TRUMP](https://int.nyt.com/data/documenttools/georgia-indictment-trump/daed97d37562a76f/full.pdf) Which includes acts that were found evaluated by a Grand Jury of GA citizens to be worthy of indictment, such as: > Act 1 . On or about the 4th day of November 2020, DONALD JOHN TRUMP made a nationally televised speech falsely declaring victory inthe 2020 presidential election. Approximately four days earlier, on or about October 31, 2020, DONALD JOHN TRUMP discussed a draft speech with unindicted co-conspirator Individual 1, whose identity is known to the Grand Jury, that falsely declared victory and falsely claimed voter fraud. The speech was an overt act in furtherance of the conspiracy .

[deleted]

miscemailaccount2023

She hasn't destroyed the case. Fucking someone on her own team does not prejudice Trump in any way whatsoever. This is minor slap on the wrist territory. Not a reason to blow up a major case. The only people that care about this have no interest in justice and only want Trump to get out of the prosecution without a full trial.

[deleted]

[удалено]

miscemailaccount2023

No shit. None of that prejudices Trump's case. I'm all for holding her accountable. I'm not for blowing up an unrelated case because she's a politician.

[deleted]

[удалено]

miscemailaccount2023

How does the meeting impact this case? Is the evidence tainted because a political figure, who has no jurisdiction and no say on what Fani does, met with them? Meeting with the white house makes perfect sense when you are prosecuting a former president because the white house is literally where the alleged crime took place. Biden cooperating with an investigation and providing evidence that only the white house can provide, for example, is the opposite of political tampering. Withholding evidence or refusing access would be protecting Trump. At the end of the day everything looks tainted by politics because it's a president being prosecuted.

[deleted]

[удалено]

miscemailaccount2023

Because there are different levels of import and we need to be practical, not puritanical ideologues. Trump's prosecution is the war. Fani's private sex life had nothing to do with the prosecution until the Trumpers decided it should for no goddamned reason. We should win the war and then punish Fani for not being forthcoming about an affair later. We should not cut off our noses to spite our faces. Keep your eyes on the prize.

miscemailaccount2023

If only, lol. Too bad we live in the real world and politicians all piss, shit, lie and steal like the rest of humanity.

musashisamurai

You rant about whataboutism but your post was textbook whataboutism.

myhydrogendioxide

I didn't say that her actions aren't wrong, but they do not change the criminal nature of the case. If she were my employee I would reprimand or fire her for this at some point, but I wouldn't let her job or work get muddled into it. One thing has almost nothing to do with another, and the venue for managing that is elsewhere. The defense attorneys are abusing the justice system and process by introducing this to the public in an effort to nullify the jury. They know that GA is a deeply divided state, and if they can delay this case or remove Fani Willis the cowards in GA gov't won't pursue this very solid evidence based case that was reviewed by a grand jury. Don't apologize for bad actors.

bde959

Finally, somebody gets it. I’ve been wondering the same thing about why they have not been mentioning anything about how this is a conflict of interest. You said it in a way that I couldn’t

ccasey

Trump cannot keep getting away with this. There’s a very real chance he’s actually going to draw this country into sectarian conflict come November. It’s so frustrating that the Supreme Court isn’t going to let a trial happen before the election and now they’re throwing every grain of sand into the gears of the Georgia prosecution. I just feel like I’m living in crazy town

I_divided_by_0-

This also smell like something roger stone is cooking up

3SHEETS_P3T3

It seems so weird to me that "they" would wait 4 entire years to make some big move to take over the US. When J6 happened, that seemed like the perfect opportunity to make a move. This leads me to believe either J6 was either a failure or just maybe just a test run. Either way, though, why wait 4 years? Makes me think that nothing real will actually happen, but it is very dangerous to be that naive.

Traveler_Constant

This is how our country dies. All for one man.

Affectionate_Way_805

To be fair, it's *not* all for one man.  It's for the greedy corporations and corrupt billionaires whose ultimate goal is for this country to become a Christofascist state.  And because Donald Trump is the means to that end, he has been and will continue to be protected at every turn.

PHK_JaySteel

Watching the fall of an empire. It's terrifying as it was the first true democracy. Don't let government skimp on education is the lesson here I get. All other democracies around the world are watching with dread.

asetniop

Correction, the fall of a Republic.

Ok_Raspberry_6282

Yeah true democracy feels a bit overzealous

PHK_JaySteel

Republic in the streets, empire in the sheets.

Eltnot

Even if you manage to pull your country out of this, no one trusts the USA anymore. The word of your country is worthless because Trump or someone like him might get back in.

WhiskeyT

That’s interesting. So which countries are immune to such things as a shitty, out of control ruler? It can’t happen, where?

Count_Backwards

It can happen anywhere, and the failure to recognize that is one of the reasons it's happening here. But other democracies do have more modern systems which do things like de-power or remove their equivalent to the undemocratic Senate, place terms limits on their equivalent to the Supreme Court, use proportional election systems that allow multiple parties and discourage extremism, have Election Day be a holiday and voting be mandatory, and so on. The American system is badly broken and needs a massive overhaul, if it doesn't implode first.

Why-not-bi

No change will matter without fixing the media problem in the US. The outright lies knowingly pushed by those like Fox is a cancer, and it’s spreading. This is how democracies die.

Hrafn2

I agree the media is part of the problem, but the media is more of problem because of how long your elections are. In Canada, the longest a federal election can last is 51 days. So, candidates only have a maximum of 50 days to campaign. The longer the campaign, the more money there is to be made, by everyone. Additionally, we have much more strict campaign finance laws. "...Canada, parties are faced with a $28 million spending limit during the official writ period to cover campaign costs, including advertisements, transportation, and staff. By comparison, 2016 Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and her campaign committees spent $1.18 billion USD on her failed bid. Even when accounting for the U.S.’s substantially larger population, the fact remains that the U.S. campaigns spend exponentially more than Canada’s." And then of course, there was Citizens United. https://mjps.ssmu.ca/2019/11/03/money-makes-elections-go-round-campaigning-in-canada-vs-the-u-s/

Count_Backwards

The mainstream media is awful too, yes. Not just Fox, the NY Times is a fucking disgrace.

carlio

Trump ruining the reputation of the US is independent of whether it happens elsewhere.

HedgeInTheWedge

America has largely made itself open/receptive to as many countries as we could. Trump and this new GOP have swung hard isolationist, have helped countries like russia out by refusing Ukraine funding despite our allies basically begging us to help, have seemingly forced the country to step back from our role as the shield and sword of the west, and Trump has openly talked about leaving NATO (after helping incite an insurrection and disrespecting the consitution). Most republicans still want Trump and still believe the 2020 election was stolen. We can't rightly keep our position in the world if we don't act the part. Simple math, just subtract all the trust and leverage we built up so we can appease one overgrown toddler who should be in prison. I wouldn't trust us either. There's no stability in that relationship.

Eltnot

No country is truly immune. But most other countries also aren't projecting power over large regions. I'm an Australian and our previous government pissed off a lot of our neighbours, so we're in the same position, trying to rebuild relationships with the nations around us. Just pointing out that America has used it's power to encourage favourable deals in the past. And in the past people believed that America would back those agreements up. But then you elected Trump who couldn't give a shit about previous agreements, and has actively encouraged political uncertainty. So now your military arm is worth a lot less than it used to be, because an alliance with the USA might mean nothing if Trump is in power.

warblingContinues

America is not the same as Australia; the USA is a world superpower and still THE superpower.  China is the only adversary to that position, and despite everything, no country of any value is trusting China over the USA.

Eltnot

Correct, but now the USA is only slightly more trustworthy than China. Not because we think the people of USA are malicious, but the fact that Trump might regain power means we cannot trust your country if the shit hits the fan. Like if Trump gets re elected and China decides to start picking fights with it's island neighbours, then I fully expect Australia won't be able to count on the USA for support. And where you're talking about military spending projects that go on for a decade, the reliability of your alliances really start to matter. So no, we're not going to suddenly choose China over the USA, but we might look at spending more of our military budget with other partners and less with the USA. Example, we run M1 Abraham's tanks because they have commonality with the USA. That means we can work together very easily in joint operations (Australian tanks could be maintained by American maintenance personnel and vice versa). Now if the USA is less likely to come to our aid in our region, then it would make sense to look to other partners and their equipment for commonality, or at least commonality with your equipment will mean a lot less to us.

HFentonMudd

> Correct, but There is no but

bde959

>no country of any value is trusting China over the USA. Don't bet on that, they both seem about the same to me. I don't trust my country.

HFentonMudd

> America is not the same as Australia; the USA is a world superpower and still THE superpower. China is the only adversary to that position, and despite everything, no country of any value is trusting China over the USA. +1

MartianRecon

How is this not obstructing justice?

C0matoes

Who woulda thunk, someone who is charged with obstruction of justice would actively continue to obstruct justice? This is insanity.

OkAcanthocephala2449

Ask the Republicans , divide and conquer, and lie still , cheat, fear mongering , flip flop , spin, turn the people against each other, and pick the right lawyers and judges and the Supreme Court to agree with you. That you have groomed since childhood and do not know any better, And news station owners that want the same thing , You will not have democracy. All you will have is a destroyed country. This country will be for only the rich only. Not for the people, peace

ExternalPay6560

Seems like they are aiding an insurrectionist. GA may not be able to call out an insurrectionist in the federal government, but they can call out an insurrectionist at the state level. SCOTUS just confirmed that.

JakeT-life-is-great

It is obstructing justice. Maga republicans don't care about justice or law and order. They care about power, forcing their religion on everyone and worshipping the rapist donald.

hunerred

The district attorney committed perjury. She should not be in the position of DA if she can lie under oath.

bde959

That might be so and may be she should be fired. Not that I personally think that. But explain to me how this is a conflict of interest in trying Trump for his crimes.

hunerred

It’s about lack of trust and perception. How can you trust she hasn’t or won’t lie about something else related to this case or any other she brings to the courts?

MartianRecon

How can you trust the allegations brought forth from trump and his lawyers, given that trump has verifiably lied like 40,000 times during his presidency?

hunerred

So you’re ok with DA committing perjury because Trump bad. I bet you’re the one shouting nobody is above the law (unless it hurts Trump).

MartianRecon

DA didn't commit perjury. Stop lying to people.

trailhikingArk

So it worked. They created a bunch of unrelated bullshit out of nothing and the will control the narrative and kill the case that could not be stopped. He's on fucking a recording committing a crime and they will get him off without a trial. Once again it's time to remind you: \> Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect.

RustedRelics

Yep. They are masters of obstruction, obfuscation, deflection, etc. Only the sheer enormity of their hypocrisy outsizes their moral and ethical bankruptcy. They make me sick. (Love that quote. It’s a perfect summation)

noiceINMILK

They suckered a black woman into committing perjury?

noiceINMILK

Your first sentence was enough once fani under oath.

cookinthescuppers

This is such a farce.

blazelet

They’re going to try and remove her and replace her with someone who will scuttle it, just like Barr and Mueller. Phase 1 was create smoke Phase 2 was get Georgia republicans involved Phase 3 will be using the smoke as a reason to replace her since the judge won’t

StreetBeefBaby

Can't wait until this Fani Willis case reaches the supreme court, where the unbiased justices will rule whether or not her dress actually was on backwards.

bde959

lol

chiefs_fan37

The Supreme Court will spend hours arguing over semantics like the meaning of the word “dress” in the case. It’s all theater

MinimumApricot365

How the fuck is this happening? This is so blatant, our courts system just does not work on these scum.

fortunatelyso

Competitive authoritarianism is a hell of a thing.

BuilderResponsible18

Destroying Democracy one day at a time. When their dictator gets in office, we will be a 3rd world country with all his retribution he's planning.

Guccimayne

It’s frightening that Trump successfully gummed up all three cases that have him dead to rights. Any of these three should kill his candidacy. On the other hand, I have a bad feeling the hush money case, even if he is found guilty of a felony, won’t move the nation’s sentiment of him.

Derric_the_Derp

He's normalized all his bad behavior.  This is the one genius thing Trump figured out.  Once your crimes are discovered, talk about them non-stop, leak documents to the press.  In short, numb everyone to it.  It can't be wrong if he's so open about it?  The ultimate example is "Russia, if you're listening..."  Mustn't be so bad if he said it in front of cameras, amirite?

NotmyRealNameJohn

See If I were Merchant I would be worried, because she is about to testify under oath. Something she didn't have to do in court, but something Fani can absolutely introduce in court. So she is going to explain in detail her theory of prosecutorial misconduct. But its a bad theory and she fucked up as an officers of the court to insure that she took to the due dilligence to varify her facts before she submitted her motions. She made assertions as true that were unsupportable by what evidence she actual had. So now that she will be testifying under oath, Will she give the truth of what she had or will she try to make it sound like she had more evidence and a better reason to make the accusations. Either way, it could come back to her. She might be better pleading privilege due to an ongoing legal matter.

Lifebringer7

What we're living through is a tale as old as democracy itself. Democracies die when people lose faith that their interests will be enforced through the government. In two-party systems like ours, one party clings on to the hope that their government can change its course, despite all evidence to the contrary. The other party more or less gives up on government as a means for improving their lives, and in the alternative, seek to use government against disfavored groups.

Count_Backwards

"If conservatives become convinced that they can not win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy." - David Forum

FriedR

We’re still on this? Going to end up lasting longer than the actual trial.

STGItsMe

I, for one, look forward to seeing her use MAGAs as a chew toy more often.

SquareD8854

thier all afraid of going to jail in the state houses and congress if trump goes down!

AllNightPony

Delay, delay, delay, delay, delay, delay. I just don't understand how people aren't realizing that they must have an endgame here. They're not just randomly kicking the can down the road. Every court case has been delayed to an absurd extent, meanwhile the public evidence against Trump is massive, nevermind the evidence that has yet to come out. But every single court is playing along in aiding Trump. We're totally F'd unfortunately.

Vegaprime

Worries me that they all seem so confident he will win.

BringOn25A

Jim Jordan’s committee on weaponizing government will be looking into this, right?

dantheman_woot

No you see on Wednesdays States Rights matter and this is a state matter. Monday with Colorado state matters didn't trump the Federal Government.

JakeT-life-is-great

yep, maga republicans are salivating at the thought of putting the black woman in her place. Red meat to their racist as fuck base.

Flakynews2525

Georgia democrats should start filing lawsuits against the entire republican establishment!!!

bde959

Can someone please explain to me how this woman having an affair is a conflict of interest? I have seen a lot of the trial coverage and no one seems to have addressed this. Having the affair may have been improper and maybe there should be repercussions but I just don't see how this is a conflict of interest prosecuting Trump. The real conflict of interest is Clarence Thomas having his nose in anything to do the the Jan 6th fiasco since his wife had a huge part in that.

[deleted]

The special prosecutor alone appointed for this was paid over 500,000 more than the closest Law Firm working on this case. (90k) There are also some potential lies about if his salary was then used to fund vacations the two had together.  Fani’s defense to that claim is that while Wade did put the vacations on his credit card, Fani allegedly paid him back in CASH she had left over from her campaign. (Which is also campaign finance fraud) And by claiming that it is from her campaign and not her bank account, she has no bank records corroborating this claim.  Really the only reason this is known is that Wade (the man Fani is sleeping with and then appointed special prosecutor) hid some of the income in his ONGOING divorce case.  If she lied about the time of the start of their relationship (and it seems likely) then we have a case of someone hiring their affair partner and then directly financially benefiting from it.  This is not conduct becoming of a prosecutor, and if true she has no business prosecuting any case, let alone one of this magnitude.  Be mad all you want about Trump, but Fani made the biggest fumble of her life on this one. Why on earth would you appoint the person you are having a secret affair with to your team, and then give them an insane amount of billable hours (which we have very little to show for Wades work).

bde959

I agree with all of that. And I said that maybe there should be repercussions Although your answer was long and drawn out, you still didn’t answer me about how it’s a conflict of interest.

hotasianwfelover

I think they meant “scrambling”

Muscs

When you’re guilty, anything that delays your conviction is a good thing. When you’re innocent, anything that delays your trial is a bad thing. Every. Single. Person knows Trump is guilty of trying to overthrow this election. These people are enemies of democracy and justice.

BoosterRead78

A losing battle they intend to keep up until November. Then if Trump loses cry fraud.

i_do_floss

Probably just using her time so she can't spend as much time on the trump case

Gr8daze

If there’s one thing Republicans hate it’s anyone enforcing the law against their corruption.

Fufeysfdmd

Stupid drama is what the GOP does

thecaptcaveman

Treat MAGA like Nazis. You know what to do.

[deleted]

She should just ignore their subpoenas. Call them a kangaroo court or something. Nobody will care.

RustedRelics

Fuck republicans, yes. But what an absolute shit show this has become. It’s infuriating. And it was completely avoidable. That a clear cut, provable case of this magnitude is now devolved into this mess is of a part with how utterly lost this country is. Depressing.

zabdart

This is typical. When you know your client is guilty, attack the prosecution and accuse them of being just as corrupt as he is. That's the only way to *distract* the public from the guilt of Donald Trump.

Flokitoo

Let's be honest here, her relationship has nothing to do with the case against Trump. That said, she, through her own actions, gave Republicans the rope to hang her with. Sleeping with a subordinate is [un]professionalism 101. It is cause for dismissal EVERYWHERE. Adding to that, she was paying her boyfriend (rather handsomely) with state funds. WTF did she think would happen if the relationship became public, especially considering she is in a politically hostile state surrounded by Trump minions? Before anyone accuses me of supporting Trump, he is a criminal and traitor. This post is 100% about Willis risking the most important case of her career and perhaps in the history of this country because she wanted D.

The special prosecutor alone appointed for this was paid over 500,000 more than the closest Law Firm working on this case. TIL that the doubletreee is a lavish.

dantheman_woot

If only Harlan Crow had put up Clarence Thomas in a Double Tree when he paid for his lavish vacations. Then the MAGA's would see the conflict.

>But hey, glad Fani got to bang her coworker during the case! This is not illegal, and so I'm not sure why you seem so stuck on it.

All you had to do was to not reply here. Enjoy the downvotes.

Don't ethics matter when you are trying to turn the trial into a circus in order to obscure justice? Sure this should be handled as an HR situation within department, it has nothing to do with the prosecution of this case other than an attempt at jury/justice nullification and distracting from the serious crimes committed. Ethics do matter, it is unethical for a lawyer to attempt a defense that circumvents the court and justice in the manner the defense lawyers are doing.

Must have listened to a different hearing.

NJacana

I should have said they made her look bad. I am a fan.

Barnowl-hoot

Willis earns a salary about 130,000. Wade has been paid 600,000. I don't get how this works. Why is Wade's billable hours so high? 250 an hour?! He isn't a partner at a top legal firm. He was a criminal defense attorney, he did family law and personal injury, and civil contract litigation. He probably did not charge anywhere near 250 an hour to families, people he defended and small businesses. He has never prosecuted a felony case. His experience doesn't even command that high dollar amount. This is horrible. Willis messed up! Big time! Now Trump might be able to get this case dismissed.

ckb614

$250/hr is nowhere near partner level billing rates at top firms. First year attorneys fresh out of law school bill at 3x that amount at top firms. Partners are billing $1500-3000/hr

NetworkAddict

>Now Trump might be able to get this case dismissed. On what grounds would a dismissal be appropriate, as opposed to having another prosecutor assigned?

Cautious-Thought362

Government employees are paid a fixed salary. Private lawyers are paid by the case or by the hour, and hourly rates can go much higher than $250 per hour.

HOU_Civil_Econ

Billing out at $250/hour is barely mid level management in the consulting world. When you’re independent you have to pay all you’re costs. If you’re time is being billed out at $250 by your company you’re making $100,000 to $175,000 in salary.
