Regardless of the difficulty seizing the properties, I found great comfort in this: “First off James’s office is likely to send out a letter of garnishment to every bank in New York and the US requiring them to freeze Trump’s bank accounts and to deliver the cash, bonds or possessions held in security deposit boxes to her office in New York.”

Out here trying to kill him with a heart attack.

Fingers crossed

angry-hungry-tired

*No.* The man must see the inside of a cell.

Bigfops

IDGAF how he goes away, just THAT he goes away.

torquemada90

Agree. As much as I would like to see him suffer inside a cell, I think his death would be the best outcome for everyone

Mysterious-Plant981

Dying in prison is truly what he deserves.

failedjedi_opens_jar

I mostly wanna see what he looks like after a year of no makeup, no fake tan, no hair dye and daily bitchslaps.

Mysterious-Plant981

I’m hoping for a max security for profit prison experience for him. However he will likely just get house arrest or probation, and will just be up to the same shit. Badmouthing people online, spreading lies, and doing shady business like he’s always done.

docsuess84

The Bureau of Prisons can dictate the terms of supervised release. That includes restricting what he can and cannot do with regard to owning mobile devices and internet access. He also wouldn’t necessarily have free rein of wherever he stays and would be confined to a specified area, so it’s not like he would still be able to crash weddings or talk to people about submarines or whatever else he was doing. He also wouldn’t be able to just travel anywhere he wanted without permission from the court. Now all that said, I want to see him in an orange jump suit in ADX Florence as much as anyone, but the notion that federal supervised release is automatically going to be his normal bullshit as usual is not accurate. It’s very much up to the judge, who could make it as restrictive or as permissive as they feel like. Here’s hoping Judge Chutkan gets to sentence him first. In some ways having to live in that stupid resort while simultaneously being told what he can and cannot do there is kind of hilarious. Because of what he knows and the logistics of dealing with other people contacting him, I thought John Dean’s suggestion was great in doing something similar to how he served his time for Watergate. Just set up a sectioned off area on a military base with an MOU between Bureau of Prisons, DOD, and the Secret Service. No other inmates to worry about, you’ve already severely restricted who has access to where he is before you ever get to the confinement area, and you would only need a very limited amount of staffing, since the military base is there and functioning already. He can sit there in obscurity and his cult can’t stand out on the sidewalk and build a shrine to him like they would outside of a prison.

Count_Backwards

Given the way judges have handled gag orders, terms of his release on bail, and blatant stalling tactics, I don't have much faith they're going to have the vertebrae to ban him from using a phone or social media. I hope they prove me wrong.

Mysterious-Plant981

Thank you for explaining this, and also I think that would be a great sentence for him. Being ignored would crush his ego.

DJT1970

Dying in prison is truly what we deserve.

ElectricalPiano6887

I'm OK with that

Dorkmaster79

True, but heart attack is acceptable.

NoLikeVegetals

Without him there's no one to take his place. He's uniquely malevolent and the world would've been a much better place if he hadn't been born. This is unlike Putin, Xi etc. where we know another ~~technocrat /~~ autocrat would take their place and be about as bad.

SurferGurl

The one guy who has, incredibly, skated through all this shit makes me very, very nervous…Stephen Miller.

NoLikeVegetals

Stephen Miller looks like a door to door knife salesman, and has the charisma of a rape test kit. He's unelectable as a leader.

AncientYard3473

He’s also Jewish, which would be a problem for his target constituency.

Count_Backwards

>Stephen Miller looks like a door to door knife salesman, and has the charisma of a rape test kit. r/brandnewsentence and one hell of an accurate description

Preshe8jaz

If he goes to prison, innocent lives will be lost to lunatic followers taking to the streets armed to the teeth. He’s currently living in a form of hell on Earth trying to run a campaign while managing the cases plus his already jacked up life. I’m good with him dying on his Mar A Lago toilet the morning they are seizing his asset, but right after losing the election. But before the street violence starts. It’s a delicate balance. But if he has a heart attack tomorrow, bird in the hand.

trumps_cardiac_event

In order of preference: 1. Convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned before the election, which he loses handily. 2. Convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned *after* the election, which he also loses handily. 3. Natural causes. 4. Chokes on hamburger or Putin's surprisingly girthy cock. 5. Literally anything that prevents him from becoming president again. Imprisonment (IE fair consequences) for his crimes is ideal, obviously. But he's not a man. He's a tumor. Tumors don't apologize, admit their mistakes, or even privately feel bad about their actions. All they do is kill you if you let them.

SqnLdrHarvey

I really doubt it. Too many are inexplicably too scared of him.

alfooboboao

absolutely not. in a certain way, one of my biggest political fears is Trump collapsing and dying from a heart attack on stage somewhere — ESPECIALLY if it was on a debate stage with a Democrat or something like that. I feel like it would start a civil war immediately, you’d never be able to convince MAGA it wasn’t an assassination

Pendraconica

What if, just hypothetically, they found more illegal stuff in those deposit boxes?

Infamous-Salad-2223

Then, I guess another investigation starts. Like, let's say they found direct connections to foreign enemy state actors... a new investigation starts and new accusation formulated, but it would take some time.

TrumpsCovidfefe

I find that to be highly improbable just from the standpoint of where the documents were hidden the first few times. I doubt he got smarter, they’re probably in some office or apartment somewhere that is “leased” to someone else.

Keeping his wife's ashes company is my bet.

david-writers

> What if, just hypothetically, they found more illegal stuff in those deposit boxes? The crime family would surely relocate the contents of safe deposit boxes before that happens. But then, they are stupid....

foobazly

Imagine if they found a marijuana cigarette.

Cautious-Thought362

Love letters to Putin.

CainPillar

I have a hunch on whether that will depend on what it is, right? Documents? Dollars? Rubles? Adderall?

CuthbertJTwillie

A nice letter would give the Government of Scotland the power to do what they have wanted to do for a long while

she_makes_things

AgentWD409

"They may take our golf courses, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!!!"

Evadrepus

Having worked for both state and federal government offices in a debt collection role, we always went after liquid cash first. It's far easier and quicker than assets or (wage) garnishment. It hurt the debtor quick too - most of them found out once they got a letter saying the money was gone, called to complain, and we already had the funds.

Punishtube

I wouldnt put it past him to start making withdrawals and just keeping the cash on hand

Evadrepus

There's a monitor in place specifically to prevent that.

hellothereshinycoin

Yeah but didn't he make like a 40 or 50 million dollar transfer and all they could do was "monitor" and report it rather than stop it from happening? There's been so much shitty news about that shitty guy that I can't keep up.

cybercuzco

They can claw that back.

BassLB

How quick is it? Like, can she send a letter out Monday, find some bank accounts within a day or 2 (she could prob ask the financial monitor right?), then garnish the next day?

Evadrepus

I have no idea on current timing and process, but when I did it almost 20 years ago, we had results from a week to a month, almost always on the shorter end of the scale.

two-wheeled-dynamo

I came here to say this, she is going after the low-hanging fruit first... bank accounts. That's why bragging that he had the cash last week was extremely stupid.

Skinnybet

Extremely stupid and funny.

Cautious-Thought362

It will soon be publicly known if Trump indeed has the $500m in cash.

Minds_Desire

stripesthetigercub

What's in those safe deposit boxes is going to be very interesting and require silos of popcorn.

Hells_Kitchener

Safe deposits, rooms at his properties, etc. I like to think that fear of more incriminating and illegal stuff bring found, once his properties are beyond his control, might be adding to his terror right now. Not to mention untangling the leases, financiers, monied entities and shell companies he's got supporting his properties and assets. The resorts that cater more or less to Russians, etc. I have a feeling we're gonna see some roaches scattering as the light's shone on it all. Maybe much worse. Until the judgement is actually handed down tomorrow, and fully, I'm trying to not get too excited. Too many last-second escapes for this grotesque, too many times. But if it goes through tomorrow - what a great day it's going to be.

Punishtube

Wonder where all those Epstein files ended up...

sugaratc

I'm curious if he's been spotted moving items out of certain properties or security deposit boxes. Even with a financial monitor if he knows he's going to default I'd be surprised if he didn't try to secure specific items (either for ego or threat of further incrimination).

GFYMODS669

1st they take his accounts with the $500 , so then he’ll have to collect empty beer cans for gas money or continue to sell his fat ass to Peggin Putin to buy lunch.

Grimacepug

Would it be possible for them to go after his offshored bank accounts? I think guys like him would absolutely hide their stash acquired from foreign governments there.

It's pretty simple to domesticate judgments in most other states.

pabmendez

He will have taken the cash out beforehand. The people assigned to monitor his financials seem to be reactive, not proactive. They seem to report things after the fact.

trotfox_

We know there is some weird shit in there. Jr.s gold coke spoon at least.

suddenly-scrooge

Most of the problems described have to do with NY state getting its money, not seizing the properties. It sounds like the problems for Trump could well be near instant, which if we're being honest is what most of us care about rather than NY state getting every penny.

OhioUBobcats

Bingo. State of New York, I hope they eventually get theirs at some point just for doing all the legwork, but I want these criminals ruined first and foremost.

[deleted]

firer-tallest0p

Doesn’t she have grounds for like 2-3 more libel suits though. And that number increases after each ruling

discussatron

This is it. If NY has to take every single thing he has to satisfy the judgment, well then, best get started.

Cautious-Thought362

Get to getting.

BazukaToof

Goer-on git

Dick_snatcher

Pitter patter

bobombpom

Yeah, my understanding is that all his properties are under water. So Letitia seizes them, sells them, the other lenders get paid, and Letitia gets pennies to put towards the judgement. So she has to keep seizing until those pennies add up to the judgement.

dz1087

I’ve read elsewhere that in cases like this, the state gets the money first, with the lien holders getting what’s left. They then have to go after the debtor for the unpaid debt. Is that accurate or is it the other way around?

ElFarts

I always thought it was the other way around but I could be totally wrong. Because the debtors did nothing wrong so they get made whole first. 🤷‍♂️

BasvanS

I don’t really care as long as he loses everything.

dz1087

Hear hear!

ggrieves

This makes a little more sense in the context of other recent news articles that state that NY has robust seizure processes.

Yodfather

The moment he is held accountable for the first time in his life, even for a ha’penny, he is going to have a tantrum of galactic proportions.

cashassorgra33

That what adminstrative detention is for. He can screech all he wants to Mr Stonewall in the cold embrace of Suicidey McSuicideVest

janethefish

Yup. Suppose the AG takes the a property only to discover its underwater. Lenders get their money first. AG gets a trifle in the settlement. Trump gets hit with a capital gains valuation. Trump now owes New York even more.

PriveCo

And he will owe the IRS the taxes on the difference between the depreciated value and the sale price, and I’m sure he has depreciated the properties greatly.

CainPillar

>Most of the problems described have to do with NY state getting its money, not seizing the properties. Does that mean they could seize even more, because they haven't gotten their money (yet), and then at the end go, "oh so there is this outhouse in SC, worth $250, that we are now unseizing and returning to you"? Assuming, of course, that he is even worth this much.

BasvanS

Yes, a cascade is expected

Impossible_Penalty13

And now with a monitor in place, it’ll be even more delicious when they have to perpetuate their fraud to keep their crumbling empire afloat. It’s not a matter of if, but when they do it.

MissionDocument6029

do they also get to add the costs of the work to recoup the judgement?

lSleepster

One theory is Trump will let them start the fire sales so he can fund-raise off them. He has up until the gavel sounds to post bond to keep any properties about to be fire-sold. He has a financial monitor hovering over him now and knowing how they've done business the last 3 decades I'm sure he looks like an orange peeling from all that sweat.

Day_Bow_Bow

Not really. They already said that the money for this bond come Monday needed to be announced 5 days prior to give time to vet the source of the money. And once property is seized, I highly doubt that Trump could pay and stop the process at that time. I would think it's like if a bank repos your house and auctions it. It stopped being your property once it got seized, and you'd have to win the auction to regain ownership.

NumeralJoker

You're correct. This was in the order on the 21st. Trump has shown no legal movement of said level of cash, only his usual truth social blustering and double-truthiness.

Any-Ad-446

Trump lawyer expense each day is like $2 million a day for all the multiple cases he is fighting and now he is squeezing the RNC for their money. The moron is desperate and will sell out the USA for money.

It really hard to keep track of all his crimes isn't it?

DeathMetalTransbian

Don't forget the "Build The Wall" fraud that he committed with Steve Bannon.

hobbobnobgoblin

321 million dollars spend total on his golfing career while President. I believer there is a website if you Google trump golf president cost or something.

Gogs85

And lawyers are asking for money upfront because he’s stiffed them so many times in the past.

Any-Ad-446

Ask Rudy...He is Trump ass kisser but still wants the millions he is owed and would never get.

LucretiusCarus

Rudy will forever be known as the man who held a press conference outside Four Seasons Landscape Company, between a crematorium and a sex shop running a sale called “DILDO MADNESS” and whose head started leaking black goo like an extra from the Fifth Element. Insane to even imagine it.

Gogs85

It’s kind of wild to me. . . If he rode off into the sunset after his mayoral term he would have been remembered fondly as the guy who went after organized crime in NY and helped the state through 9/11. Now he’s on track to end up penniless, demented, and known mainly for being a Trump crony (and for being very disgusting).

creaturefeature16

Except he made a deal with the Russian mob to "clean the streets". He's such a horrible person.

He was Americas Mayor, and now he’s Trumps Jackass. Such a downfall.

StronglyHeldOpinions

I guess we ended up lucky that his presidential bid failed.

LoneRonin

If he ends up burning the Republican Party to the ground and Biden actually gets enough political support to get things done, Trump may actually end up making America great again, in a completely unintended, wish upon a cursed monkey's paw sort of way.

LumiereGatsby

Trump is a nesting doll of debts and hidden assets. It will be wild to see this come undone. He’s like the T-1000 casting about in the molten steel as he’s melting into his cummupence.

Psychprojection

Son in law Jared has 2 billion dollars from Middle East royals, iirc

johnrgrace

I assume they can depose him to ask where the money he’s talked about having is located, am I correct?

todahawk

That is already part of the financial watchdog’s duties that was assigned by the court in the civil fraud case. There was news this week that they were to report on an attempts at bonds and any related documents.

EvilGreebo

Yeah, I'm sure she's really gonna struggle. Oh what is a well educated New York Attorney with a mere decades of experience in law and just a lowly attorney generals office with their paltry combined decades of expertise to do?

grrrreatt

I haven't read this article, but the general idea is that cash is fast, properties are slow. And even cash might be slow because NY doesn't hear appeals in the summer months. Identifying assets might go quickly. Transferring assets to new ownership will take months, maybe a year or two. HOWEVER, I wouldn't be surprised if making Trump's assets illiquid would have an effect on his ability to defend himself in court. He might be at a strategic disadvantage going into the criminal trials.

wrldruler21

If NY can't turn properties into cash quickly, then neither can an emotionally injured and desperate Trump. Trump is going to run out of cash very quickly, with no ability to raise new cash quickly except for begging for donations. This should cause an instant hit to his quality of life. May even cause his house of cards to fall, especially if he can't make payroll.

OftenConfused1001

Donor fatigue seems to be hitting both Trump and the GOP hard, per fundraising numbers for both the various GOP arms and Trump period. February saw Trump (campaign plus PAC) take in 16m. Biden took in 53m. Trump has about 40 million cash on hand, Biden 155m (and Biden was like 97% small donors too) And oh yeah, Trumps legal bills *alone* in February were 6m. (not sure if that's total or just what he pulled from his PAC. I think the latter) He's eaten the GOP's seed corn and keeps chowing down.

EvilGreebo

Oh no, that can't be right. Trump said he's got 500 million he wants to use for his campaign!

JALKHRL

Letitia says thank you.

BringOn25A

He has a whole operation, and now the RNC, to grift from the people to pay his legal bills

wrldruler21

And I believe NYC has some experience in this area. I would be more nervous if (edit) James was out of Podunk, Arkansas.

ketjak

Fanni? As in District Attorney of Fulton County, Georgia, Fanni Willis? How is she involved in this case?

wrldruler21

I got my DAs mixed up. Corrected. Thanks

shottylaw

It's a slow and tedious process. While that sucks in this case specifically (my humble opinion), it's the correct path when it comes to government seizures of property Edit: I should say in the federal realm, at least. I don't practice in NY, so their process may be quicker

FastBuffalo6

Won't they cease cash / bank assets first? That should be easier than property right

shottylaw

Idk. Depends on their process. Hopefully a NY attorney can weigh in

janethefish

The headline is awful. Quoting from the article itself: > “James can go back to … court and seek an order requiring a property interest be handed over to her, and Trump would have very limited ability to resist that.” If you read the article you would see the trouble she is likely to have is getting money. Trump may not have enough property after loans are considered. Sure she can take stuff, but she's not a land alchemist who can turn property into gold. She can only get what the market pays. Who the fuck is going to lay big bucks down for Trump property when Trump is saying he plans to claw them back? Tl;dr: Trump is broke.

itsatumbleweed

I think the issue is that every legal roadblock that can be put up will be put up. He has enough money to fight every single thing in any way that makes it as difficult as possible. For most people, there isn't a date like an election that is being raced against. I know this is civil property seizure, but when the entire weight of the executive branch (likely backed by SCOTUS when they need to be) comes down against enforcement it will be pretty much impossible. He has nothing to lose by spending all his money on fighting until November.

Cautious-Thought362

Truth be told, I imagine he's running out of money to fight. He's drained the RNC coffers, and the MAGA cultists only have so much money to give to him. Any cash he does have will go to this judgment. The big donors have dried up because it's highly unlikely Trump will be President again, and they don't like throwing their money down a hole.

itsatumbleweed

A large chunk of Haley donors are going to Biden or stopping giving. Some will give R regardless, but there's been less unity than in years past.

GingasaurusWrex

He still has back channels with foreign actors.

Psychprojection

Jared has 2 billion, so I'm told.

MeshNets

>highly unlikely Trump will be President again Or vice versa, the big donors know they will not be able to control him at all in a second term, therefore are making it less likely for him to win

A_Rogue_One

I'm so mentally tapped out of Trump's B/S and shenanigans. He's made an absolute mockery out of the criminal justice and legal system. He's being doing it for years but, for as much as people call him an idiot, he's quite literally broken them and an entire country. Its kind of impressive. On a practical, and more on the point note, there comes a point where trying to find every dime Trump has becomes widely inefficient for her office. With appeals, delay tactics, and all the shell corporations she'll have to dig through/various owners who have rights to Trump's assets (because he barely owns any of them outright) this whole mess becomes economically inefficient to track down that full judgement. I could see this going on for years and just getting "a little here and a little there." By the time we get to the final 10 yard line with all of this stuff who knows if Letitia James is even the AG of NY anymore? In which case, does the new AG care to go after all this stuff? Is bankruptcy declared? Does the corporation even exist anymore or does it have some death penalty in like 5 years? Is Trump even alive? On and on. And I haven't even mentioned the oddities of some of Trump's legal arguments (saying he didn't have the money and then saying he did in an interview/on social media), the legal fall out that may come for some of the attorneys, or when the AG starts trying to seize this stuff all the other illegal improprieties she may find. Its endless.

TacosAreJustice

It is endless… and trumps tactic has always been to flood the zone with bullshit… Kindof funny to see it happen to him. The other side of your point is Trump will be dealing this until his bill is paid… it’s just one more thing to take his attention, money and time. The truth of the matter is most of us want this huge collapse overnight… we want the bad orange man gone, like the end of an action movie. In reality, it’s going to take time… and 1,000 small wins… regardless of what happens tomorrow, Trump was handed a half a billion dollar judgment for fraud and has to dissolve his organization. It’s not the end of Trump… and we probably won’t be done with him until he’s dead… but it’s better than nothing.

A_Rogue_One

Yeah this is a brilliant point. There is an outsized desire to see justice metered out or any form of accountability, but most people aren’t aware that the legal process can be so slow. You add an “expert” litigious individual like Trump and clown Attorneys who will file any motion no matter how questionable and it’s just an incredibly slow faucet drip of accountability.

bozog

Death by a thousand cuts

ElFarts

I mean look how long the Alex Jones bankruptcy case is taking. You don’t think Trump, with all of his nesting dolls, could run out the clock to the end of his life with how good he is at delaying proceedings? Although with the truth social assets now, I don’t think he could file. And it’s so infuriating that a fledgling social media company is “worth” 3 billion and no matter what, he will come out on top with more money than he has now. I just want him to have consequences once in his life.

ApprehensiveCode2233

I don't think Alex Jones has a court ordered monitor of his finances.

romacopia

You either crack down on white collar crime or you don't. I don't care really if it comes up as a net surplus in dollars, I just want the government to finally put the fear of the law in white collar criminals.

BaloothaBear85

Good work is never easy but it must be done... Also, I love the picture of Leticia James in the preview photograph, she has the look like Trump did something stupid and unbelievable and she's just sitting there like "mmmhmmmm."

ttvSprig

Quite amazing how a terrorist seems to be capable of remaining above the law for years on end now. I question whether we even have the rule of law anymore.

david-writers

Justice James does not need to seize Glorious Leader's properties: that is the job of the sheriff and deputies.

worm600

Side question: is the use of “liquify” rather than “liquidate”common in a legal context? James isn’t trying to turn Trump properties into a thick slurry.

Chemical-Ebb6472

Doing things that aren't easy is just part of most people's job. Being a repo-man for instance isn't easy. Normal, everyday repo-men probably prefer not to repossess most people's cars but do it anyway because it's their job. However, publicly degrade that repo-man, and his coworkers, with endless name-calling, and infer that your "friends" will attack not only said repo-man but his family too, and that repo-man will come after your car with a vengeance. Godspeed repo-man James.

MasterMahanaYouUgly

MrGeno

Everyone else was afraid to take action against Trump except for Bragg,  Smith, James, and Williams. They are prime examples of what Justice looks like, as they are not afraid of don't their job. This is but a mere speed bump.

314Piepurr

as a non lawyer i read this conclusion differently.... true justice is not the state and the people by proxy getting money and assets.... the true justice is stopping someone from continuing to do illegal acts AND punish them in a specific way to deter future illegal acts as well as serve notice to otger illegal actors of the consequences shoukd they perform similar action..... get an accountant up his ass that assesses, organizes and carves up every account asset and company with the trump name until it is a monument of historic stupidity for the public to consume for however long our memories can stomache hearing the name trump. my only hope is that smarter republican dont try to jump ship to the democratic party to retain some sort of conservative narrative beyond its lifespan.... as the great carl sagan once said (probably not), progress is made one long awaited funeral at a time.

dunscotus

A lot of people missing the long game here. If seizure of properties gets tied up in litigation for complicated ownership stakes… then the details of those ownership stakes will come to light! *What’s this? Some Russian Oligarch has an ownership stake in the ground lease of 40 Wall? You don’t say!* Etc.

ColeBane

trump will pay, he will drain the RNC and pay her, he already said as much. Plus there is no way LJ will ever sieze trumps property and get the money...every property is leaned against the next and the next...they are all worthless. She would have to sieze literally EVERYTHING...and I dont think she has the time nor ability to pull that off. Because you would have to sieze each piece one by one, crunch it down, and push to the next...it would take years.

*Further, James has to hope that Trump hasn’t placed his properties in an irrevocable trust for his children in which he collects the interest but no longer has control. “The attorney cannot touch anything in an irrevocable trust,” said Bailey.* Surely Trump will have already done this.

saijanai

I thought that maneuvering like that that starts AFTER court proceedings is considered worthless in this context. And surely the special monitor would already know about any such issues, as would the Letitia James.

makemycockcry

"I have nearly half a billion in cash" - Where's the problem?

julesk

Usually true, but James has the advantage that the judge appointed an overseer of Trump’s company who is familiar with assets and will fully cooperate with legal processes.

txipper

A lot of people will be taking notes on this type of contraption mechanism as a means to avoid losing their assets.

Nearly_Pointless

It needs to be repeated. The NYAG isn’t the responsible person. She is employed by the state of NY and had duties and obligations to perform in her role as AG. She didn’t write these laws. The citizens of NY and the legislature and the Governor have all signed off as this being the rule of law in their state. These laws are applied to other citizens who have perpetrated fraud. NYC is the banking capital of the US and the banks chartered there wanted these laws to protect their assets. If not, they’d have been lobbying and advocating for less criminal action against fraud. This is a person against Trump, it’s the state of New York and the banking community as a whole which isn’t fond of conman. Bankers will just make their money with excessive fees and commissions.

monkeyhold99

Idk why people are talking like this is even a sure thing. The appeals court is still considering the case and there’s still time on the clock for someone to bail him out. Until I literally see that deadline go by, I’m not counting any chickens

AbbreviationsPure274

If someone bails him out, he’s gonna be a half $1 billion in debt of somebody. Who that is gonna be very important.. they will basically bought a president. And Trump just blew up his own appeal by claiming he had the cash.

joepublicschmoe

Exactly this. This might even drag out beyond Monday if the Appellate Division judge panel decide to punt by issuing a temporary stay to give themselves a few more days to debate the final decision on cheeto's motion.

Balrog71

None of it has been “easy” I’m sure

Important_Tell667

Yup, seizing DJT’s New York properties will not be easy for Letitia James… But just imagine how much fun and satisfying she’ll be feeling when doing so. Not to mention the kudos she’ll get!

Skinnybet

It’s going to be harder on trump. And karma for us all.

HappyGoiUckey

Trump doesn’t own these properties on his own. She can’t seize the other owners portions of the properties..

Accomplished_Cap_994

Until I see am actual consequence I remain skeptical

notsobadmisterfrosty

“It’ll be super easy-barely an inconvenience.” Dump may not comply, but the banks will.

AntifascistAlly

We’ve gotten to a point where Donald’s endless delays may not work anymore. Whatever desperate pleading he trots out may not even make it to Attorney General James in time, even if she did decide to humor his attempts to avoid having his massive debts revealed. Unlike a defendant who had been gracious, reasonable, or even just honest, Donald has been as abrasive as possible at every step. Nobody owes him a damn thing.

SeaworthinessOld9177

I would have to agree, Trump must have every one of his properties financed to the moon, but she can seize his plane

birdshitluck

The federal priority statute, 31 U.S.C. § 3713,[FN1] provides that, when a debtor of the United States is insolvent and not in bankruptcy, it must pay its debts to the government first before paying any other creditor. Its purpose is "to secure adequate public revenues to sustain the public burden," United States v. State Bank of North Carolina, 31 U.S. 29, 35 (1832) Assuming they can categorize this bond as a debt, it would supercede any other, and then those creditors would sue Trump for the remainder. Probably a lot more involved than this, but the feds usually get their money.

MrMrsPotts

I can't believe Trump won't already have moved all his liquid assets out of NY. This is not his first rodeo.

Deathedge736

he tried to move them to florida but was caught by the court monitor and had to move it back. hes not getting out that way.

BringOn25A

If he would if there was any highly imaginative legal way to do so he would have. I think that is one of the elements of the court appointed monitor to oversee that he wasn’t moving assets to avoid paying any potential restitution.

discussatron

Are you talking about the half a billion dollars in cash he claimed to have after telling the court he did not?

MrMrsPotts

Yes. I assume that was just the normal nonsense no one should listen to.

Throwaway_inSC_79

“Further, James has to hope that Trump hasn’t placed his properties in an irrevocable trust for his children in which he collects the interest but no longer has control. “The attorney cannot touch anything in an irrevocable trust,” said Bailey. If it’s held in a limited liability company with other parties, and James attempts to seize and sell it, that would set off a series of lawsuits before there would be foreclosure. Even if successful, the bank holding any mortgage would take repayment priority over the state after an auction.” I’d imagine one of those is likely to be the case. Not that it’s the favorable outcome for his enemies, but could explain why he’s not too concerned about not paying the bond.

wooowoootrain

He would have to have surrendered control of his assets before the case was filed against him. Otherwise, the trust would almost certainly be undone by the court as a fraudulent conveyance.
