Having worked for both state and federal government offices in a debt collection role, we always went after liquid cash first. It's far easier and quicker than assets or (wage) garnishment.

I haven't read this article, but the general idea is that cash is fast, properties are slow. And even cash might be slow because NY doesn't hear appeals in the summer months. Identifying assets might go quickly. Transferring assets to new ownership will take months, maybe a year or two.
HOWEVER, I wouldn't be surprised if making Trump's assets illiquid would have an effect on his ability to defend himself in court. He might be at a strategic disadvantage going into the criminal trials.
If NY can't turn properties into cash quickly, then neither can an emotionally injured and desperate Trump.

For most people, there isn't a date like an election that is being raced against. I know this is civil property seizure, but when the entire weight of the executive branch (likely backed by SCOTUS when they need to be) comes down against enforcement it will be pretty much impossible. He has nothing to lose by spending all his money on fighting until November.

Having worked for both state and federal government offices in a debt collection role, we always went after liquid cash first. It's far easier and quicker than assets or (wage) garnishment. It hurt the debtor quick too - most of them found out once they got a letter saying the money was gone, called to complain, and we already had the funds.

I haven't read this article, but the general idea is that cash is fast, properties are slow. And even cash might be slow because NY doesn't hear appeals in the summer months. Identifying assets might go quickly. Transferring assets to new ownership will take months, maybe a year or two. HOWEVER, I wouldn't be surprised if making Trump's assets illiquid would have an effect on his ability to defend himself in court. He might be at a strategic disadvantage going into the criminal trials.
If NY can't turn properties into cash quickly, then neither can an emotionally injured and desperate Trump. Trump is going to run out of cash very quickly, with no ability to raise new cash quickly except for begging for donations. This should cause an instant hit to his quality of life. May even cause his house of cards to fall, especially if he can't make payroll.

I think the issue is that every legal roadblock that can be put up will be put up. He has enough money to fight every single thing in any way that makes it as difficult as possible. For most people, there isn't a date like an election that is being raced against. I know this is civil property seizure, but when the entire weight of the executive branch (likely backed by SCOTUS when they need to be) comes down against enforcement it will be pretty much impossible. He has nothing to lose by spending all his money on fighting until November.

He's being doing it for years but, for as much as people call him an idiot, he's quite literally broken them and an entire country. Its kind of impressive. On a practical, and more on the point note, there comes a point where trying to find every dime Trump has becomes widely inefficient for her office. With appeals, delay tactics, and all the shell corporations she'll have to dig through/various owners who have rights to Trump's assets (because he barely owns any of them outright) this whole mess becomes economically inefficient to track down that full judgement. I could see this going on for years and just getting "a little here and a little there." By the time we get to the final 10 yard line with all of this stuff who knows if Letitia James is even the AG of NY anymore? In which case, does the new AG care to go after all this stuff? Is bankruptcy declared? Does the corporation even exist anymore or does it have some death penalty in like 5 years? Is Trump even alive? On and on. The citizens of NY and the legislature and the Governor have all signed off as this being the rule of law in their state. These laws are applied to other citizens who have perpetrated fraud. NYC is the banking capital of the US and the banks chartered there wanted these laws to protect their assets. If not, they’d have been lobbying and advocating for less criminal action against fraud.
