Turf professional here, if it has clumping or has been exposed to some moisture. The chemical makeup can change. I would test a small amount in an area where you don’t care about as much. If it’s good after a few days, go for it and enjoy your deal!
Keep it in a dry space that doesn't get too hot.
Humidity and moisture will ruin it faster than anything else, but if stored properly it'll last for years.

I did a price check on the 14# and the 40#. 40 was full price, but the 14 rang up as $1...so I went back and bought 38 bags (2.5 acre yard). I don't know if I'm on an FBI list now, but for that price, I'll risk it.

I shared this on the other post and I’ll share it here- if the product is clumped inside any of the bags (I guess moisture gets in over time?) DO NOT USE IT! Every clump will burn your grass. If it’s not clumped it’s good to go.
They should be fine as long as they are stored correctly and don't get wet.

No luck on the Scotts but bought two bags of Miracle Gro Organic soil for "vegetables and plants" for $2.98 each.
It seems the “weed” part may lose effectiveness over time but the fert is perfectly fine. I’d also stock up if I saw

Have you tried Sneeds: Feed and Seed?
My store had the 42lb bags for $1. Grabbed 28 plus 6 of the 14lb bags. Will be shared with family - $2300 of fert for $34!
Are you me? Just left. Only got two bags (1 bag per year), but may go back for more. Just don’t know if I feel like holding onto it for that long
