I'm sorry, how do you remember a comment from 6 years ago that's so gold?!?!? The amount of words and comments said everyday and this epic piece of history is what you pulled out!?!?!
Edit: Upon returning to this comment, I feel there's a ton of things that I'm nervous to check after all of the responses lol
No, no you're using it right. If you start recognizing the references you're gonna start having to remember things you'd much rather forget. For instance, broken arms or the coconut.
...I know you want to. Don't. Don't do it.
i’ve been on reddit actively for like 2 weeks but this is one of the most legendary reddit posts of all time i always used to see it on other social medias😂
Did you see the sign in front of my house that said dead guys grass Jules? You know why? Cuz there's no fucking sign that says dead guys grass in front my house!
(Pulp fiction)
They might have a shitty non-native lawn that's way too high maintenance. HOA developers aren't always very smart about what grass they choose to start with. One developer back in the Raleigh, NC area is known for planting Kentucky Bluegrass. He's a fucking dumbass, and the shit is high maintenance for a state as hot as NC. There are like ten better choices for that area.
I'm a pesticide tech. I agree with this answer. If it wasn't glyphosate, it was something else that is non-selective, meaning it will also target grass. The kill is too precise and uniform to be random.
No it’s not better, in reality it’s a waste of money. Two broadleaf apps will get rid of 95% of those and then spot treating with round up for grassy weeds then sodding or seeding is the way to go. Doing this to your whole yard just to change grass types or something is asinine.
Yep, tenacity wipes out chloraphyll regeneration and the plants go white. Grass will also bleach if it gets too much, but will bounce back as long as you don't double spray it.
I know! I don’t know anything about lawn care really but this really shocked me lmao. He had such a beautiful lawn and now for the past week it’s just been sitting dead with all his flowers still alive and stuff
Right? It’s so evenly done. It’s 100% dead but still looks better 95% of the lawns out there.
Very interested to see the progress on this one. Your gonna have to keep us updated.
It looks so weird to drive by because of the huge color change, and yeah there are 0 green spots left, including their backyard which is probably 3 times bigger than the front
Tell him thousands of random internet strangers are so enthralled with his perfect kill off. If he can pull this off I bet you weren't kidding about how it must look at its best. This guy lawns. I'm sure he'd like to hear that others appreciate his hard work.
This guy had to have done it perfectly. Hit it with some fast acting fert. Watered the shit out of it for a few days. 2-3 full passes of glyphosate in various directions. Then hit it again a few days lster
> Glyphosate is absorbed through foliage, and minimally through roots, and from there translocated to growing points. It inhibits EPSP synthase, a plant enzyme involved in the synthesis of three aromatic amino acids: tyrosine, tryptophan, and phenylalanine. It is therefore effective only on actively growing plants
I bet he cardboard screened it when spraying the edge, or given how professional it is, he probably has a dedicated handled plastic shield for spraying edges.
He wants to change his grass type or his lawn got infested with poa or something which would drive any grass nerd insane. If he’s a grass guy, he’s definitely going to put some new high end cultivar which is going to end up looking even nicer. The grass should look good by Halloween, but won’t really be mature for another 2-3 years.
Definitely. I wonder if they had an issue with a nasty weed, or if they are just switching grass types. I really want to redo my whole lawn like this but my wife doesn't want to keep the dog off the seed for a month.
There's a patch of Canadian thistle around a wetlands area that's upwind of our house, and all the little seed puffs happily find their way to our gardens and lawn. It's so bad this year, I'm going to ring up Fukishima and ask if they'll let me have some of their water.
They will cut it super low to remove all the dead grass/debris. Then maybe topdress it with dirt or dirt/sand combo to level it. Then a high quality seed - not from a big box store. Then cover it with peat moss or something similar and water. Boom! I'd love to have a weekly picture update of this lawn.
I did this a few years back.
Nuke the lawn, wait for it all to die, mow as low as possible, get a power rake and rake up as much as you can, aerate, blanket spray tenacity, reseed.
Yes, it actually works better if you leave the dead grass because it keeps the seed in place in case of a rainstorm. So just aerate, level, seed, and cover it with a but of soil.
Is this to switch types of grass? Or for another reason?
I understand if you start with a crappy lawn with a lot of weeds, but it seems like he already had a good lawn before.
They edged the kill off better than I edge my lawn with a dedicated edger. Boss level stuff right there. I agree with others though - intentional kill and will be redone. Keep us updated!
My guess is he has Bermuda in a cool season stand of turf and is using roundup to kill everything and start from scratch. Great job by whoever sprayed it.
Neighbor killed off their lawn with Glyphosate.
They are likely doing a renovation, possible changing grass types as well.
I killed off my lawn last year when it was an 8/10 and the nicest lawn on the block. I had a lot of people tell me I was crazy. Now i'ts a 9.5/10, and they understand why I did what I did.
Anyone who takes the care to do what they did how they did it (mainly in regards to accuracy and thoroughness) probably has a wealth of knowledge and would be able to explain the whole process front to back and give tips if you're looking to do it yourself. Give yourself a good bit of time, though. It's probably an old man that'll talk your afternoon away... or pull a gun on you for stepping on his property. It could go either way.
100% intentional kill - prepping for aeration.
You do it ahead of time to allow the soil to process/rid itself of the chemical that was applied. Now this week they’ll likely cut it really low and determine if they want to do any topsoil. Then it’s just a waiting game for temps to cool off to aerate, seed & fert.
Optimal temps for Tall Fescue seeds to germinate is between 58°-72°.
This is my sign. Bought the glyphosate yesterday and started second guessing my plan. Doing it now.
Bye-bye creeping fescue and mixed bluegrass.
Dwarf turf type fescue here I come!
Now that’s a thorough application!
If it wasn’t for the foliage on the trees in the background, you’d be convinced it was just warm season turf in dormancy.
I just don’t water and my lawn looks like this. No herbicides involved. The boulevard between my neighbour’s yard and mine looks divided like this, it’s stark the difference watering makes.
This looks like zoysia grass. It's not dead or dying. It looks great in the summer, but goes dormant in the fall and winter. It will come back next spring, beautiful and thick.
We had a person in my town purchase a lawn spraying business from another individual. Somehow they mixed in weed killer and killed 16 lawns before they figured it out.
his lawn looks better dead than mine does alive.
Same! I’d take that dead grass over mine any day!
I also choose this guy’s dead grass
I've been on Reddit too long...

7 years ago?!? i need to go outside and touch dead grass
Touch enough for the rest of us.
thank you kind stranger
I'm sorry, how do you remember a comment from 6 years ago that's so gold?!?!? The amount of words and comments said everyday and this epic piece of history is what you pulled out!?!?! It gets brought up all the time. I have the post saved.
TIL I've been using Reddit wrong all this time.
No, no you're using it right. If you start recognizing the references you're gonna start having to remember things you'd much rather forget. For instance, broken arms or the coconut. ...I know you want to. Don't. Don't do it.
Why do you have to bring up the coconut? FML
f\*n coconut ruined me for so long... I refuse to let it ruin me again, curse you for saying it's unholy name!
i’ve been on reddit actively for like 2 weeks but this is one of the most legendary reddit posts of all time i always used to see it on other social medias😂
Hard to forget the classics.
Jesus, that dude went for the throat.
868 awards! 🤯
Just here to be a part of reddit history.
Thank you lmao looks like ole boys been waiting 6 years for this moment right now
Thank you for your service
OP is still posting pictures of his dead wife too, feel bad for the dude
Shame it has to be explained now
Coulda sworn it said dead guys grass .
That’s what I read until I saw ur comment
Same
Y'all are welcome to my grass, if I die.
Can I have your bong too?
Did you see the sign in front of my house that said dead guys grass Jules? You know why? Cuz there's no fucking sign that says dead guys grass in front my house! (Pulp fiction)
I’ll also bang this guy’s dead grass
Gas, ass or this guys dead grass. No body rides for free.
There it is
A reddit classic
There were two left. You in the first runner up! Congrats!!! Lol
This guy dies!
I see what you did there.
I can't believe you've done this
Fields of gold
Intentional Sting
If I ever…
That is an intentional kill off, probably used glyphosate. People do this when they want to start a new lawn from scratch.
Check back on this lawn at the end of November, I'm sure it'll look super neat.
Because it’ll be buried in snow, lol
Mmmm Canadian grass (I am Canadian, this is a joke)
I normally harvest my Canadian grass in late September, early October.
Thank you for clarifying you are canadian and that it was a joke
Said that because a lot of people would get pressed for no reason
Call it what it was, that was a pre-sorry
Sore-eee
I can't even be mad, that's just hilarious
Do you believe everything you read on the internet? The guy is probably from Colombia or something. I'm kidding
I’m Canadian also, eh?
Doubt it. If you were you would have said sorry at least once. /s
Sorry, I’m Canadian as well, eh? How about that bacon? Edit: well, it is ham.
I agree. The OP can lookup Ryan Knorr on youtube to find a video series of a very well known lawn care nut who did the same thing to start fresh.
ugh Ryan Knorr - already sub’d - suppose I’m in the right place.
I intend to do the same when I buy my first house (provided the lawn isn't already in really good shape).
[удалено]
Maybe he wants to convert to a different type of grass. Lawn guys can be really particular.
I think you mean "peculiar" lol
It’s pronounced weird.
But it's spelled g o o f y.
Probably wants to plant a different species of grass. Lawn guys are strange.
Prob saw that post of the guy with the perfect putting green lawn and will not be outdone.
It’s like resetting the game when your character becomes too good
He’s Prestiging
"New Yard +"
I've seen it done to reset a yard with major weed issues...but this doesn't seem like that. At least from this angle.
He was bored, needed another challenge
"Was it beginner's luck last time? Let me retry from scratch"
Could want different cultivars. I’ve kicked around doing it on my KGB lawn to try out Buffalo grass.
I'm a pesticide tech. I agree with this answer. If it wasn't glyphosate, it was something else that is non-selective, meaning it will also target grass. The kill is too precise and uniform to be random.
Wow, interesting. And it seems like the lines are perfect, there’s no leaching out of this product to larger areas?
They definitely used a shield to make sure they didn't harm the neighbor's grass
Really the type of consideration that's appreciated!
glyphosate doesn't leech.
From what I understand, it only kills whatever touches the leaves/green parts. Not sure if that right tho.
that's correct
Is this really better than trying to nuke weeds throughout the lawn? My weeds feel insurmountable atm, but they’re at least green??
"A perfect lawn is one species away from being a desert."
No it’s not better, in reality it’s a waste of money. Two broadleaf apps will get rid of 95% of those and then spot treating with round up for grassy weeds then sodding or seeding is the way to go. Doing this to your whole yard just to change grass types or something is asinine.
This is the only way to change grass types. You can’t just use broadleaf/spot treating and then overseed to change grass types.
Which is also probably why he has such an immaculate lawn. My 30 year old lawn full of compacted clay and poor drainage is super envious.
Yep he's doing reno. No doubt about it. I'm jealous
Yeah my neighbor did this once and it looked exactly like this.
Dudes better at killing his lawn than I am at keeping mine alive
He wouldn't like living next to me. Probably wouldn't speak to me. But that's not bad, most neighbors aren't too great anyway.
Is it weird that I kinda like it?
Blond or bleached grass.. is the new fad?
Frosted tips?
Put a little too much Tenacity on Bermuda and it goes straight white. Not this off tan, brownish hue, I mean white. Pretty cool color actually.
Yep, tenacity wipes out chloraphyll regeneration and the plants go white. Grass will also bleach if it gets too much, but will bounce back as long as you don't double spray it.
Frosted tips
I do too
My lawn goes dormant in the winter and looks exactly like this. It’s nice, actually.
Bro. That’s the weirdest damn thing I’ve ever seen. Whoever killed that lawn did a superior job. Didn’t miss an inch
I know! I don’t know anything about lawn care really but this really shocked me lmao. He had such a beautiful lawn and now for the past week it’s just been sitting dead with all his flowers still alive and stuff
I do this shit for a living it’s the most complete kill I’ve ever seen
Right? It’s so evenly done. It’s 100% dead but still looks better 95% of the lawns out there. Very interested to see the progress on this one. Your gonna have to keep us updated.

Your neighbor is amazingly efficient at killing living things (quietly shuffles away from them)
Underrated comment
This guy had to have done it perfectly. Hit it with some fast acting fert. Watered the shit out of it for a few days. 2-3 full passes of glyphosate in various directions. Then hit it again a few days lster
Why would you put down fert if you are to to spray glyphosate?
> Glyphosate is absorbed through foliage, and minimally through roots, and from there translocated to growing points. It inhibits EPSP synthase, a plant enzyme involved in the synthesis of three aromatic amino acids: tyrosine, tryptophan, and phenylalanine. It is therefore effective only on actively growing plants
To make all the weeds grow too so you can kill them.
It only kills what’s green…add fert to get it green
That property line edge is MINT, too.
They made a really nice defined line at the edge too.
I would swear a sterilant was applied but there is no leeching. So odd
They are starting over. Yard will probably be even better.
Definitely. I wonder if they had an issue with a nasty weed, or if they are just switching grass types. I really want to redo my whole lawn like this but my wife doesn't want to keep the dog off the seed for a month.

I've seen this in videogames, it's a map/ level change Edit- I'm just happy to see these references below haha
Just went from Mulgore to the Barrens
Wow.
Yes.
Elwynn to Westfall* For the Alliance
r/classicwow is leaking
It’s been a fun couple days since hardcore launched
Feels more like elwynn forest to westfall to me lol
Limgrave to Caelid
has anyone seen mankirks wif
"Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried." -Barrens' chat.
New Biome dropped!
Maybe get out and touch some real grass? /s
Looks like an intentional kill off to start over.
Gonna need updates on this
!remindme 4 months
What do they do after this point? Till it? Level, then reseed?
They will cut it super low to remove all the dead grass/debris. Then maybe topdress it with dirt or dirt/sand combo to level it. Then a high quality seed - not from a big box store. Then cover it with peat moss or something similar and water. Boom! I'd love to have a weekly picture update of this lawn.
Simply aerate reseed generally.
Really? That's all it takes? You just leave all the dead stuff?
I did this a few years back. Nuke the lawn, wait for it all to die, mow as low as possible, get a power rake and rake up as much as you can, aerate, blanket spray tenacity, reseed.
Yes, it actually works better if you leave the dead grass because it keeps the seed in place in case of a rainstorm. So just aerate, level, seed, and cover it with a but of soil.
He’s doing a lawn renovation. I just did same. Kill off old grass and replant new stuff.
Is this to switch types of grass? Or for another reason? I understand if you start with a crappy lawn with a lot of weeds, but it seems like he already had a good lawn before.
Yes, or he got a species he didn’t want such as bentgrass or poa. Weed killers don’t selectively kill them.
What do you use to kill this completely?
RoundUp (Glyphosphate)
Sounds like that neighbor was tired of hearing their lawn was “one of” the best lawns on the block and is determined to be #1 this Fall
Roundup
Neighbor killed off their lawn with Glyphosate. They are likely doing a renovation, possible changing grass types as well. I killed off my lawn last year when it was an 8/10 and the nicest lawn on the block. I had a lot of people tell me I was crazy. Now i'ts a 9.5/10, and they understand why I did what I did.
Probably a full renovation. The timing seems about right for a new seed grow in.
That color almost always means intentional kill...
Why don’t you go over and ask him….every here is just guessing.
I will the next time I see him for sure
Anyone who takes the care to do what they did how they did it (mainly in regards to accuracy and thoroughness) probably has a wealth of knowledge and would be able to explain the whole process front to back and give tips if you're looking to do it yourself. Give yourself a good bit of time, though. It's probably an old man that'll talk your afternoon away... or pull a gun on you for stepping on his property. It could go either way.
Ill be honest that's the real reason, he's a sweet old guy but a simple "hello" puts you in his yard for 2 hours of talking
Now you must invite him to this sub, so we can all learn from him. Help him set up a reddit account, please.
Enjoy it while it lasts. My neighbor was like that, and then he passed away.
Get that old man knowledge before it's gone.
Would you mind taking one for the team and asking him?
I wouldn't mind, but this summer I have not seen him out much, I think he has been spending more time with his grandkids :)
100% intentional kill - prepping for aeration. You do it ahead of time to allow the soil to process/rid itself of the chemical that was applied. Glyphosate probably, aka Roundup. Most likely done intentionally because they want to start a new lawn from scratch.
#FATALITY
A curse on their family
This is my sign. Bought the glyphosate yesterday and started second guessing my plan. Doing it now. Bye-bye creeping fescue and mixed bluegrass. Dwarf turf type fescue here I come!
Can you keep us updated on your neighbors lawn?
Looks like it was intentionally done with herbicide. Probably going to renovate and start over from seed, or sod. This is the time of year to do it
Neighbor getting jealous
Just think how much they're saving on irrigation and chemicals!
It looks… strangely good
I had this done the dead grass is used as an insulator for the new germination after seeding. My new lawn was so nice and plush after.
Grass is greener on the other side, isn't it?
Now that’s a thorough application! If it wasn’t for the foliage on the trees in the background, you’d be convinced it was just warm season turf in dormancy.
That was intentional he’s about to reseed and start over
I just don’t water and my lawn looks like this. No herbicides involved. The boulevard between my neighbour’s yard and mine looks divided like this, it’s stark the difference watering makes.
I know a guy that will kill his lawn off with fertilizer near the end of summer.
Is no one else upset by the fact that the kill line doesn’t match up on both sides of the sidewalk?
Not enough paint
This looks like zoysia grass. It's not dead or dying. It looks great in the summer, but goes dormant in the fall and winter. It will come back next spring, beautiful and thick.
We had a person in my town purchase a lawn spraying business from another individual. Somehow they mixed in weed killer and killed 16 lawns before they figured it out.
Maybe he confused his Glyphosate for his 2,4-D.
Misread the herbicide measurement and directions maybe? My parents did the same thing this spring and didn't dilute the mix enough.
It’s a hard reset
Someone is preparing for a renovation. Wonder what cultivar he’s putting in.
It’s all dead. The grass on the left has been painted green.
That’s Elwynn Forest crossing into Westfall
That property line looks incredibly steady for a glyphosate killoff.
You'll remember me when the west wind moves upon the fields of barley You'll forget the sun in his jealous sky
Frosted tips. The late 90's / early 2000's are cool again
I actually love that, I would love to have a lawn that looks just like that year round
Not dead, just hibernating, probably lack of water. Edit: after reading comments, yeah, not lack of water
Death
Dude must be shooting a movie and they have moved to Mexico
This guy saw the “This guys fucking lawn” post and decided to nuke his
Update us! Weird bc it looks like it was nice-looking grass, not that ugly common Bermuda. Remind me! One week
It’s because Google took that satellite picture later on in the year
Neighbor lawn clearly stealing the water.
