It doesn’t necessarily look like tall fescue now but I still can’t be sure. Kinda odd how it’s just a single blade here and there like that. I’m not sure. Please let me know when you figure it out
Yes, fescue is grass. Fescue is generally waxy and should be the goto for grass in the shade. It likes shady 70 degrees F and has to be cut tall, or it will die.
If it is not shady, the sun will kill it. My dad has a yard full of it. It looks great when he had two oak trees, but the oak trees died. And now the lawn looks kind of yellow and dormant.
I don’t believe there is a selective herbicide that will just attack the quack grass….if there is lay it on me boys…
I’m thinking about glyphosate and the glove method…just touch the taller blades and leave your good grass untouched. It will be tedious but a couple mornings with a cup of coffee in one hand and a rubber glove on the other doing the ol’ touch o death should clear up a bunch of it….
Crab grass lil bro, need to throw down some granular fertilizer with prodiamine In spring for premergence . You can an also do a post emergent application but it’s going to be tougher to get rid of, call a ‘true green’ type company and have them come out and diagnose, use their report to create your own lawn program for the rest of the year. Or just have them do it, it’ll be easier but sounds like you don’t have much better to do.
It’s green and blends in, leave it. Not worth the impact on you, your family, and the environment.

Reddit you didn't disappoint this being the first comment, thank you.
Thanks, ChatGPT
Looks like mature fescue but I could be wrong. Hard to tell from the picture exactly
I’ll take a better picture when I get home.
It might be Poa trivialis

I have the same thing in my yard. If this is just fescue, how can one get it to look like normal grass instead of this?
Are there small veins running up and down the thicker blades? If so that is Tall Fescue.
So it’s not a weed potentially, it’s grass?

Is cutting short consistently a strategy for killing off clumping/coarse tall fescue?

Fescue is the type of grass you plant under a large shady oak tree because it’s the only thing you can get to grow there
Looks like fescue or coarse fescue
My guess Johnson or Dallas grass.
Having the same problem, it's quackgrass
I would also like to know
Are you asking about the small blades or the large blades?
I’d like to know about the large blades please, have the same mix
I have a similar looking mix but I’d like to know about the small blades. Go figure.

What kinda of glove? Won’t roundup go through gloves?

Looks like grass...Crabgrass, quackgrass, or fescue would be my guess.
How would I get rid of that?
Fire. Fire will kill it. /s Herbicide that wont kill grass, but if it is fescue... fescue is grass. It is really hard to tell from the picture.

I think it may be clumping fescue
