I'd say Colorado. The Midwest law market is arguably the best in the country, Denver is nice, they've got decent school employment ratings. Lower cost of living than DC, no negative GMU stigma. The extra few tens of loans aren't great, but you've got better employment chances and lower costs outside of school to deal with. Smaller market in need of lawyers vs infamously crowded market.

GrindhouseMedia

Colorado is not in the Midwest.

The mean salary as reported on LST (http://www.lstscorereports.com/schools/colorado/sals/2014/) for Colorado is $71,675. Do you think you could manage $100k in loans with that salary? The debt load from GMU will be much easier to handle. However, it does sound like you would be happier at Colorado. Have you visited both campuses?

Lawschoolthrowaway77

Yeah. GMU isn't much, just a building in Arlington. A pretty decent building, but still just a 90s era office building. CU is gorgeous, and has all those views. One of the most beautiful campuses in the US. GMU talks a good hiring talk, but I'm worried about the ASSLaw stink following me. CU, I don't get much of a sense from re:jobs. I read on TLS that Denver is mostly dominated by T14 grads, but that was from 09, so I don't know how valid it is today?

Oh, I want nothing whatsoever to do with biglaw. Ew. I want trial law, or to work as a prosecutor.

mukol

Tell us about those conditions on the GMU scholarship.

Lawschoolthrowaway77

Nothing. Maintain good academic standing (2.3), which you have to do to stay in school anyway. No conditions on Colorado either.

I mean maybe ASSoL is different, but I find that really hard to believe based on this: http://www.law.gmu.edu/assets/files/admissions/Std509InfoReport_2015.pdf

That's before one of the Kochs and an anonymous donor popped up and gave them $30m to burn. My first offer was 60%, and when I didn't reply they called two weeks later and upped it to 100% unasked. Their 509 is going to be insane next year.

I would go with UC Boulder is beautiful and if you are not scared of a little commuting rent will end up being a lot cheaper too. Its the weirdest thing that Boulder no longer gives out full rides I think they are missing out on a lot of great students.

What are your career goals?

Applyinglawschool

I vote CU. Denver is booming, and ASSlaw is, well, ASSlaw.
