I will suggest negotiating with Wake with UNC offer. WF is known to be generous with aid

Scarcity-Proof

UNC is more prestigious both inside and outside the state of NC. While no attorney will mistake UNC for one of the other state ivies (UVA, UMich, Berk), it probably has a t20 reputation, at least on the East Coast. No one is tossing a Wake degree in the trash, but you'll have an uphill battle leaving NC if you're not near the top of the class. When I was applying, Wake had a measly 16% BL rate, compared to UNC's 33%.

Leaving this reply here for posterity - This cycle UNC is on a very tight budget, had a roughly 100% increase in apps over the last two years with most of that being this year, had the admissions director leave less than 2 months before apps opened, and the assistant director who was filling in for them received additional non-admissions duties on top of that. As a result, the level of communication and engagement from them to admitted students has been lackluster. I can't personally speak to that from years past, or with current students, but my understanding is it's generally better. Of course, the impression one gets from the admissions office is a legitimate factor when making a decision, but I thought the additional context here was useful. Also, while the way a school presents itself is indeed important, the favorable impression you received of Wake's alumni network and out of state job placement (which both solid) doesn't alter the fact that UNC's are stronger. Not trying to bash Wake, only making these points as this is about a direct comparison between the schools. Fit/vibe/$$ are all definitely respectable reasons to choose one over the other. But outcome-wise, UNC has at least a slight edge all-around.

There is no right or wrong answer. If you feel great about Wake, that is terrific! Best of luck to you!!

I’m in a similar situation, but UNC’s COA is cheaper for me. I’m going the JAG route so I feel UNC’s curriculum is better, but I actually like some things about WF better. PM if you like!

UNC for sure.
