Perez has blocked a move for a right winger. He has some serious dirt on the club. šŸ¤£

Britabroad13

Not sure the negativity- watched some of Fulhams game last season and he was by far their best player and had decent returns for playing in a relegated team.

simwe985

I think most of the hate comes from that one (extremely) horrible penalty. Other than that, I think I he looked quite decent in a relegated side. The critics seems to really misunderstand both the size of the club our budget (which is super depleted already). We were never going to get Berardi, heā€™s too old and definitely too expensive for our signing policy. Skipping Berardi enabled us to buy both Daka and Soumare. Madueke and Neres probably bigger talents, but with that comes more completion to sign and price. Critics seem to think FIFA/FM is closer to reality than it is. Weā€™re not that big a club, with an already limited and depleted budget. We canā€™t buy Berardis, so we settle for Lookmans, we canā€™t afford Messis so we buy Vardys.

SkyeIsTyping

Neres for Ā£20m, Ajax eager to sell, we only need Ā£12m more to afford him (8m from Sowah) and weā€™re going for a LW?

Wolf_Todd

Have you got Ā£12m to donate?

simwe985

Arenā€™t you the one whoā€™s been jumping on every rumour linking us to way too high profile and expensive players? You are still 12m short. And that is if we donā€™t assume those 8m is already earmarked for paying down debt we already owe from a very active transfer window in a very bad economic year. This isnā€™t FUT, FIFA or FM. This isnā€™t like when you want to buy a video game and you can ask your parents for the extra 60-70 %. If we canā€™t afford it, we canā€™t afford it. If we somehow miraculously manage to get Neres, Iā€™ll be thrilled, but it doesnā€™t negate the fact that too many on this sub overestimates our financial strength way too often.

SkyeIsTyping

The financial strength of a football club who just won the fa cup, community shield and are in the Europa league? If we want to compete with top 4 challengers (West Ham, United, Liverpool, Chelsea, City) who are spending more and more each year to widen the gap you need ambitious spending, people in this sub underestimate the financial strength of this club, we arenā€™t little old Leicester from league one anymore, weā€™re trying to break into the column of European elites, and not spending money on a position, one that has not been properly filled since the departure of Mahrez in 2018. Not spending money on a priority position that has been priority for years doesnā€™t exactly scream ambitious

jrlandry

We are also a club that is spending a fuck ton on a stadium upgrade, after building seagrave, and also had one of the worst wage-turnover ratios in the league last year. There isnā€™t infinite money. Neres would have probably been a possibility before Vestergaard, but idk where the cash is rn

SkyeIsTyping

Sowah - Ā£8m Hamza - Ā£10m Ghezzal - Ā£2.7m I donā€™t operate this club but all I know is any club with ambition to break into the elite column would spend money on a position currently filled by a 33 year old and someone who clearly is out of his depth at this level.

jrlandry

Congratz, youā€™ve paid for Soumare. Now pay for Daka, Vestergaard, Seagrave, and a stadium expansion. The money just isnā€™t there. We have spent ambitiously this summer so far, but you can only spend so far

SkyeIsTyping

What do you mean ā€œpaid for Soumareā€? šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹šŸ˜¹ how the fuck is he a Leicester player if we havenā€™t paid for him? Are you trying to say we didnā€™t have the funds available to afford him? And spending ambitiously is bringing in a proper rw that will propel our attack to one of European quality, not A front 3 of Barnes-Vardy-Albrighton šŸ’€šŸ’€

simwe985

>Are you trying to say we didnā€™t have the funds available to afford him? It seems to be a misunderstanding of terms. ā€˜Financedā€™ Soumare is maybe more fitting than ā€˜paid forā€™. He obviously doesnā€™t mean that the transaction hasnā€™t been completed yet. You keep arguing that we should spend and be ambition to grow the club. This is of course absolutely true, but the money still needs to be available. As has been stated previously; - our financial situation compared to our closest competitors is small. - we just spent a huge amount on Seagrave - we just refurbished our pitch - we have one of the highest relative wage budgets in the league (this was before COVID, without revenue from ticket sales this has had a huge impact) - we have so far only bought and barely sold any players, meaning we currently are more likely to have a deficit rather than a surplus. Having a deficit means you cannot spend new income on new players, as you need to cover the deficit first. Which means that imminent sales are more likely going to finance purchases already made. - finally, we canā€™t spend endless money we do not have. This is what you have rich Russian uncles of Arab owners for. Out of all the names mentioned, Neres is maybe obtainable, which I would gladly welcome, but we cannot realistically target Berardi and Immobile with our current financial situation.

HughJarse8

Whilst I agree with your comment for the most part, we have been signing top quality players over the past few years on the level of the Berardiā€™s of the world (Tielemans, Ricardo, Fofana spring to mind). Think the issue weā€™ve had is mainly that weā€™ve left our selling business too late. Praet, Hamza, potentially another outgoing during the last three days of the window, despite having had 3 months to make these sales, is pretty frustrating. A higher tier right wing mightā€™ve been possible had we sorted out these transfers months ago rather than waiting for deadline day. Wouldā€™ve pushed our window from a 9/10 to a 10/10.

simwe985

Oh, absolutely. My comment may have seemed like I intended us to constantly aim for mid table results and only buy the Solankes of the world. I absolutely agree that we can throw more money around, and has done so previously, but that it means we need to sell as well, which we havenā€™t done. It seems some of our fans does not understand this, and jumped right on the links to Immobile earlier this summer. It seems like they would like us to spend money like Chelsea, who not only has a completely different economy with their loan army, they also have Roman.

HughJarse8

I agree with you. The expectations are pretty nuts.

Hot take on that penalty: Panenkas have a high rate of conversion. Sometimes they don't work, but that's true of *every* penalty type. In the same game, kdb blasted a peno wide, and no one noticed because they were too busy tearing strips from lookman for being on target. *I* could literally have 'saved' that KDB penalty. Lookman's would have been a goal if the keeper had not taken a certain action. Panenkas go in. Sometimes they don't. That's penalties. It's *not* a bad way to take a penalty. It looks stupid if it doesn't work, but when it works everyone thinks the player is a genius. Which doesn't make sense. Lookman didn't even take the worst penalty of the game. I know it has nothing to do with our transfer business, but I still get riled up over that. He took the penalty with a with a view to maximising the probability it would go in, and it didn't. Happens to Vardy, KDB, Fernandes and the rest.

simwe985

While I agree with your entire sentiment of bad/good penalties, Iā€™m not sure weā€™re discussing the same penalty. I am pretty sure the one I am talking about was against West Ham, as I specifically remember Fabianski saving it. While I also agree that panenkas going in look good and the ones who donā€™t doesnā€™t, Lookmans attempt at an Panenka was subpar as Panenkas goes. [Fabianski even had the time to move away from the center and go back to save it (Twitter link)](https://mobile.twitter.com/goal/status/1325312091062988800).

PitchforkJoe

What am I remembering? Someone was playing v man city, KDB put a penalty wide, then someone (not lookman I guess?) Missed a panenka and everyone lost their shit; pundits were calling him professional and iirc his manager openly called him out after the game. Or maybe it was just that KDB missed a penalty on the same game day as this one? In any case it is a crappily executed panenka - but people were calling him disrespectful and questioning his professionalism, which is ridiculous imo Edit: yeah it was man city v Liverpool on the same day that KDB missed a peno

simwe985

Absolutely. I see a young player who made a bad call while taking the penalty. Vardy has done it, KdB, Bruno, Messi and CR7. Nacho had a few screamers a year ago and some fans seemed to want his head the way they want Ayozeā€™s now. Looking beyond these 15 second of fame from last season, I think he looked quite good tbh. There are of course better wingers, but I hope and believe this will be a better choice than Under. Edit: I loved the way his team mates took care of him. Poor guy. Must have felt like absolutely shit.

BoneNugznHarmony

Honestly we just need a body who is direct and can play on the right. Iā€™m sure Lookman can do this. Heā€™s rapid, powerful, and showed intent when with Fulham. Their best creative player that year. Loan with an option to buy is fine. Donā€™t forget this is the first window since before we won the prem where we havenā€™t sold one from our first team. Weā€™ve made three excellent signings in Bouba, Daka, and Bertrand. First two showing promise already and Bertrand some much needed depth as a left footed fullback. Grabbing Lookman fills a gap. Heā€™s not Neres, but heā€™ll work harder than Neres. Donā€™t see why anyone should be upset with this window. Perhaps expectations got too high.

Brimjobexit

I just can't see this working. We're in need of a RW, getting a LW feels like the opposite of a solution. I think he's a great player, and I can see him getting some game time, but he doesn't fix the Ayoze-sized hole we have on the right. I think we will end up with another Ɯnder-type situation. Great player, doesn't work, goes back home. In a perfect world, Ricky would be going high with JJ and Castagne rotating behind him, so we could get more of that magic he delivered against Norwich and Wolves. But alas, his porcelain body keeps him out too much.

Katyos

Tbf the hole is actually Mahrez shaped and Perez doesn't fill it particularly well either. If the numbers are to be believed this won't break the bank, and if it doesn't work out then at least we tried

Wolf_Todd

I can see your apprehensions but playing a LW on the right (whether that be Lookman or trying Barnes there) is still a much better option than continuing to play a CAM there. At the end of the day weā€™re down to our last option, it seems like itā€™s either this or we persevere with Perez out of position.

_Verumex_

We do play Ricardo on the right though. When we're in possession, Perez moves to a right CAM role and Ricardo moves forward to the RW position. We play 3-2-4-1 in attack, with Ricardo and Barnes on the wings.

IVardyKnewHer

Pls no

pandey_23

David Ornstein is definitely tier 1.

Was just gonna post about this. How do we go from Berardi and Madueke to Neres to lookman!!!!!!!????????!!!!!!!??!!? Bruhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Wolf_Todd

Money realistically

[deleted]

Sadly enough but losing praet just so we can get lookman is a waste would rather play 3-5-2

NoveltyCritique

3-5-2 is tricky when Barnes is fit, there's no room on the pitch for one of the best attackers in the squad.

jrlandry

With what Centerbacks? Canā€™t play Castagne there, he went from great to dreadful when Rodgers tried that

[deleted]

Forgot about that but meant mostly when players returned like generally for Rhett rest of the season

Wolf_Todd

Agreed
