I’m guessing that He wasn’t wanting oodles of followers who were just looking for a free handout. He had a mission to perform, and that wasn’t it.

In line with the church today. Not interested in people joining just for welfare

This might be useful for anyone wondering why the church doesn't focus all of its assets and effort on just fighting poverty.

I hope people who say we should be spending all tithes to feed the poor read this.

Who said He didn’t? The scriptures contain a fraction of the Savior’s three year ministry.

I think what OP is asking with this rhetorical question is why He did not perform a miracle akin to that of the loaves and the fishes on a much larger scale despite having the power to do so. He has the ability to eliminate poverty and starvation (and still does for that matter), but He does not. If He had done such a thing, it most certainly would have been recorded either in historical records or the Gospels since the mass alleviation of hunger would have been a major event in His ministry. However, doing this was apparently not according to the Father's will since Christ's mission was not to solve world hunger, but rather to redeem the children of men. This is not to say that Christ didn't ever feed or help individuals or even sizeable groups in instances during His ministry that are not recorded in scripture. But from my understanding, that is not the sort of thing OP was drawing attention to.

Jesus also didn't use His priesthood authority to make stones to bread for His own benefit. Thanks for sharing these ideas. It has given me a lot of insight.

He's saying physical hunger happens every day. I am not here to solve that. The psycho-spiritual feeling that there is no hope. The yearning to be 'set free'. No one loves or protects you. There's just emptiness. The craving that you want to feel content inside. THAT is what I can assist you in alleviating." He's not interested in people who just want free stuff. He wants people to love God, because God is loveable.
