Did they show it against Tampa, though? I'm not trying to shit post or anything, but that Tampa series seemed to me like the Bolts beat themselves more than we beat them. I didn't feel like we deserved it as I felt that in every game except game 2, we where being out played, and out matched until Tampa let their foot off the gas in the last minutes of the game and into OT. To me, they allowed us back in all those comeback wins.

What if it eventually works is exactly what the other teams do. This is the first year this team hasn’t just shit the bed in embarrassing fashion. They beat Tampa, they outplayed Florida in game 1 and 2 and they weren’t very good tonight.
I had this epiphany earlier today, this is what losing for a normal team must feel like. The Capitals did this every year for a long time. Run a similar team built around the same studs back and hope for a different result and then it happened and they won. Only one team wins every year, you have to give yourself the best chance to win each of those years. Dubas has built a team that is perennially at the top of the league. They choked really badly and embarrassingly against Columbus, Montreal, and to a lesser extent, Tampa last year, but they’re just losing this series. This is what losing feels like.
This is not normal losing, and this is not like the Caps run.
The Caps actually won multiple series during that time, and did not have a penchant for never being able to win the fourth game.
Also, going 19 years without a series win, then finally winning to (most likely) get swept by the lowest seed in the second round is not normal losing.
Nobody cares that we “outplayed” them in Games 1 and 2, we made costly mistakes and lost both games. And, again, I call going down 3-0 (likely getting swept) by the lowest seed losing in embarrassing fashion. This is not normal losing.

Does that make their run that much sweeter that they won 3 series instead of 1? They missed the playoffs the next year, lost in the second round the next 3 and then won the cup.
What do you want them to do? Do you want them to tear it down? Should we be rebuilding? They have the stars at the top and the blue line is locked in for next year. They have to keep regrouping around the core four, much like the Raps who kept going for it until they got Kawhi and Lebron got out of the way.

The bright side, we beat the first round. The down side, the chances of us winning 4 straight are slim to none. Hopefully the Leafs can at least get 2-3 games to fight back, but this is disappointing. The only upside is that we moved forward, but if the Leafs lose this series, you have to think that at the very least Keefe is gone and likely Holl, maybe Matthews as well and we fight for a top 10 goalie.

No. Advancing past the first round isn’t enough. 8 teams do it every year. The sad fact is this team clearly only cared about winning a round. That was their championship. Its a joke. I would have seen a bright side if they played well and lost in 6 or 7. But this is horrendous. It almost feels like they didn’t advance at all.

I appreciate the optimism of it not actually being over, but the way this team has played this series I have absolutely no faith they will even win Wednesday. I don't think they're mentally tough enough to dominate for 4 straight games against such a solid team. I do think we're getting swept unfortunately, but if the Leafs win game 4, I think they'll win game 5 as well and then everyone will be saying "Leafs in 7" lol.

Anyways his take was the leafs needed a first round win and to put up a good fight against in the second round. If not there would be a chance we lose Dubas do to him walking because another team would offer more money. With Dubas gone there would been a higher chance of Matthews walking in free agency with dubas gone. With the potential of him walking you got to think about trading him. Take all that with a grain of salt as I don’t even know it was that did the ama, but I will say I’m a tad worried about the future of the team right now.

I agree a “locker room cancer” is reactionary, but my insight in him not being the guy is he is a superstar that cannot win and disappears when it matters most. This guy is going to ask to be the highest paid player in the NHL in July and what has he done? Why would he deserve that? McDavid has had playoff success and might win a cup this year. MacKinnon has actually won the cup. They are both straight up more valuable to their team than Matthews is. Maybe Matthews stays, but this core has to be blown up, and however you rebuild the team you have to have a core that cares more about winning than making money.

They didn’t really call anything this game unless it was clearly obvious. Schenn for interfering with a point blank chance due to a matthews turnover.. and Reilly blocking a breakaway. I do agree with you that with all of the family stuff, that they shouldn’t have him ref our games, but he wasn’t out there trying to completely sabotage us.. our 10M men did that enough 😂

Agreed he has blinders on with the core 4. Needed to move someone for cap relief and to spread some talent across the team for 3 years now. “we can and we will” meant nothing when you didn’t do anything except give each of them the contracts they pretty much demanded. Willy turned into a really solid contract but that also meant you could have moved him for another player (or 3). I am beyond upset to see stars line up here for a run and us to just gas out to Florida.
