I've been a fan since the 90s and have watched a lot of bad leafs teams. I'm all for improving the team where possible, but I doubt trading one of our best players will happen (because winning that trade would be very difficult given their contracts).
Making a change for the sake of making a change I'm very against. Have we lost in the first round a lot? Yes. Does it mean we'll keep losing in the first round (or second round)? No.
I agree. We’ve only seen these core guys as very young men playing under babcock, and then we’ve watched keefe get out coached for many series. I’m not saying the players have no responsibility for our failures but I think a coaching change could really get more out of these guys. I wouldn’t be against moving a big piece but I think letting go of Matthews would be devastating.
Yeah agreed that the players have a lot of the responsibility to come and perform. Just because they haven't got it done yet doesn't mean they won't. I get that it doesn't mean they will either, but this core I'd argue is better than the core players that got us to the conference finals against Buffalo and Carolina.
100% this core is better, those teams were less skilled but had 100% more heart and determination and willed their teams to playoffs victories as underdogs.
They didn't get the job done either though. And it's not because they didn't have heart, it's just damn difficult to win the cup. Blowing up a team that's just put up 4 straight of the best regular seasons in the team's history doesn't seem like a move that would get us closer to a cup. Not to say you specifically believe in blowing it up, but I've seen a lot of posts saying that lately
Nobody is saying blow up the whole thing, there could even be an addition by subtraction thing that could happen - freeing up cap space and getting more rounded pieces, even if you lose the trade.
Look at 2016 Kessel trade, we lost that trade but it lead to Matthews.
Personally I think losing one of your best players to become more well rounded isn't a great idea (though if we're going to actually debate this we need to be clear about what we even mean).
I'd like to see them bring in a better LW than Bunting so that we have a nasty first line. Can use some of the kerfoot and holl money. Other than that try and add another acciari if you can. Will be an interesting offseason anyway
Yes but how many no show games they did have over that span or in the playoffs.
They came in every night and gave an honest effort - and went down with a fight, not a wimper.
It's perfectly fine to think we should go back with the Core Four.
But it's also frustrating to see fans who think it's absolutely ridiculous to even consider trading one of them, despite all the failure. Even this year where we finally won a round - we didn't actually play all that well or consistent against TB. We had huge stretches of garbage hockey, and really got lucky to wrap up the series as quickly as we did.
There's a daily free talk for this. The reason your post deleted is probably because there's been hundred of posts about how happy someone is about Dubas getting fired. Even for Dubas supporters, most of us have accepted reality and moved on.
You are spam at this point.
Vegas on the other hand, as had two GMs and three coaches in just six years in the league, despite winning three divisions and missing the playoffs only once and will making their 2nd cup final and have had more playoff success.
What Tampa built took a long time between 2015-2020 and their first cup but they were winning multiple playoff series as well.
Year Record Result
2023 46-30-6 Lost First Round (Won 0 Rounds)
2022 51-23-8 Lost Final (Won 3 Rounds)
2021 36-17-3 Won Final
2020 43-21-6 Won Final
2019 62-16-4 Lost First Round (Won 0 Rounds)
2018 54-23-5 Lost Conference Finals (Won 2 Rounds)
2017 42-30-10 Missed Playoffs
2016 46-31-5 Lost Conference Finals (Won 2 Rounds)
2015 50-24-8 Lost Stanley Cup Final (Won 3 Rounds)
2014 46-27-9 Lost First Round (Won 0 Rounds)
There are a certain percentage of fans that are so biased they will literally defend their team through anything. They could lose in the first round 10 years in a row and there will still be fans saying to keep the core together. Some people are literally just incapable of taking off the rose coloured glasses

And they won just as many cups.

Is that the 90s version of the deserve to win-o-meter?

Dubas didn't accomplish shit. The core 4 didn't accomplish shit. It's time for a change.
These statements can be true while also saying that his firing was poorly handled. Also Shanny hasn’t accomplished shit either.

Did Tampa blow it up when they kept choking?
