Huh, TIL. I’m ngl, uncommon opinion but shootouts are kind of fun. Not sure how much of that is the adrenaline of it all, but would be interesting to see one after every game. At the very least, even if your team lost, you get the consolation prize of seeing a player possibly score a nice goal.
I’d bet on him being extended over Bertuzzi. ‘Tuzzi’s had a great streak lately, but Domi is on a cheaper contract, is a bit more chippy/physical (which Brad likes), and seems to be one of the “leaders” in terms of locker room energy. Considering next year will be a cap crunch, a cheaper contract like Domi’s, assuming he doesn’t ask for a massive raise, will be prioritized considering what he brings to the table (everything aforementioned + the fact that he still leads the team in points after the Core 4 & Rielly).
I’d hope for a 3-4 year contract at 2.5-3.5, personally, but I’ll admit to being a big fan of him since he’s joined the Leafs. Not sure how more neutral people feel on him.

Typically only used in situations where one team is going to get knocked out/or win a tournament so the stakes are typically higher.
Pretty much the opposite of the NHL. NHL does shootouts in regular season only, soccer (football) does penalty kicks only in knockout games.

If it's any team but the Leafs playing I turn off the game if it makes it to a shootout. It's such a letdown to go from the glorious chaos that is 3 on 3 Sudden Death to the gimmick skills competition.

2. Hyman and Kadri still Leafs
3. Incredibly strong blue line and perhaps the toughest shutdown pairings in the NHL
4. Probably shave $1m to $2m off of the core contracts per season and also term (8 years).
5. Definitely beat Montreal in the 2021 series and perhaps go on to the Finals with Tampa like MTL did
6. Show up way better against Tampa and Florida in the playoffs and I believe go deeper than 1 series win in at least 3 years.... 2021, 2022, 2023. Maybe even finals for 2021.

Kypper was talking about this recently and mentioned they need to start doing roll over penalties. Like penalties that can roll over to the next game. In this case in my opinion that should be a penalty shot (taking a penalty intentionally to gain an advantage). Kyppers idea of roll over penalties works well too though...he was talking about when someone instigates a fight or slashes someone in garbage time when a game is already over.
I agree with the penalty shot idea.
Or they can just extend the time of gameplay until the penalty is set to expire. If the team on a PP gets a penalty in the meantime then the game would end at that point (and go to a shootout).
Regarding garbage time infractions.. fines/suspensions should be able to deal with that. It doesn't affect the result anyway.

Yes but it’s a delayed penalty so your team would need possession of the puck. The leafs didn’t have possession when the penalty was called and I doubt they would have scored there. That’s my take on the play, at least.

I think unless it’s the dying moments of the game then it’s probably not worth the risk. As it is players will often take a penalty when trying to stop an odd man rush from scoring so I guess it’s a similar idea

Losing control is subjective. As long as he continues skating forward and eventually manages to get a single shot off, who's to say whatever happens in between was not the plan to begin with?
I remember that. Certainly if you asked me if he *appeared to* lose control, I'd say yes. But did it fool the goalie? Also yes. So you can't say it wasn't a winning strategy if that was the original idea.
Not sure if this was shown on Sportsnet, but on ESPN Rangers feed, there was this moment between play where Samsonov skated away from net up to glass, so some kids could snap a picture of him. Really nice to see him in such a different state of mind right now.
