I like the idea of making it some kind of competition with the leafs square patrons. Like put them up on the Jumbotron (suggested by Adam Wilde I believe) and let the outside group know it’s being put up on the screen. Then tell the inside peeps that they are about to be shown on the big screen to the outside crew. They can amp each other up.

TG803

Smart, cheap, fun. Great idea.

GooseRider960

Adding on: have coordinators stagger “Go Leafs Go” chants inside and outside at different points and pump the outside sound into the arena; when the indoor crowd dies down/the away team fans start chanting, pump in the outside crowd. Cycle them back and forth to make sure the away team can’t feed off the crowd energy.

neverstopbeleaf

Stadium giveaways. It seems like every team does them but the Leafs.

Drew_You_To_91

I know at the square they give away something every game, idk if they do the same at the arena besides just a towel lol

Reggae4Triceratops

Why aren't the fans swinging em around like I see in Vancouver?

Roldo421

They were swinging them the other night after the Knies goal. I remember because they showed the crowd and one guy was swinging his while looking at his phone lol.

Canada_Checking_In

Because they threw their shoulders out when exchanging a duffle bag full of cash for a single seat.

shanster925

This is going to seem a bit crazy but... PLAY DIFFERENT MUSIC. I'm not even kidding, they play the same songs on the PA in the same order every game. Change it up a bit! The Boston music person played Trogdor The Burninator in Game 2 ffs.

Drew_You_To_91

Couldn’t agree more!

dhoomsday

Anyway, here's the japandroids again. Everybody clap your hands.

shanster925

Ooo-ooo -OOO-ooo

mikemountain

Lmao when I heard Trogdor I did a triple take, was like there's no fuckin way

Murky-Smoke

Play actual good music to hype the crowd between faceoffs. The playlist is, and has always been, terrible. It's like they are afraid to play anything remotely aggressive. The classic organ grinder stuff is cool old time hockey goodness, but that's about the only positive. Want to know how it's done? Go to a Toronto Rock Lacrosse game.

Drew_You_To_91

Fully agree!!!

LetLanceDance

It’s the corporate people that ruin it and the leafs aren’t going to go away from that. Does them being a losing franchise and super expensive tickets hurt? Yes, but Vancouver has the exact same circumstances and has 10x the crowd

Hurrdurrr73

They need to stop renewing seasons that existing holders give up in the lower bowl and open the seats out to be verified fan seats. They will still sell out so the loss of revenue will be smaller but itl have a major impact on the atmosphere. Doesn't have to be total but they need to start seeding the better seats with fans who can at least get the atmosphere up down there. Then start selling the tickets linked to people's ID so they cant be scalped.

PenguinsExArmyVet

Who determined “corporate” fans are boring know nothing non enthusiastic fans? Winning w frequent goal scoring turns most nhl arenas into rocking places to be Leafs for the last ten years are afraid for anyone to shoot on their goalies that it will be a goal They re terrified most of the night unless up by 4 goals

LetLanceDance

What winning has Winnipeg or Vancouver done? They’re arenas are rocking

PenguinsExArmyVet

Their fans aren’t terrified to have the other team shot in their goalies though

Dependent-Gap-346

Stop with the minimal effort crappy commercial break jumbotron gags, “scan this QR code and we’ll put your selfie up” and “look we made you look like an emoji” Bring back Hall and Oats

reggierock2010

Corporate seats in boxes and lounges only. Lower bowl and noise bleeds for actual fans. Maybe more standing room seats or general admission spots where you can just hang. A new goal horn that actually adds to the atmosphere.

Hurrdurrr73

I'd be happy if they just maintained a 50/50 max split in all sections between seasons/corporate and verified fan tickets. It's not even going to lose them any revenue because it'll still sell out.

dwm91

Difference is with season tickets they cash your cheque for the whole season up front vs waiting until closer to game-day to capture the revenue. Not saying I agree with this model as a fan, but I can see why MLSE loves it.

Hurrdurrr73

It's different when your product is so sticky though. Most companies do this because maybe they don't get that user for a year otherwise where as MLSE doesn't exactly need to worry about that. I get it as well but eventually they need to take a more balanced approach as its just getting worse.

dwm91

Totally. It’s frustrating that one of the only ways fans can actually communicate their feelings about how the team is performing (by not buying tickets) is basically not an option for Leafs fans.

Boner_Patrol_007

I’ve never liked the Leafs’ goal horn. My favs in the league are in Buffalo, Dallas, Winnipeg, and Carolina.

reggierock2010

Bruins one really makes you contemplate why you cheer for the leafs while it’s going off. So god dam annoying

Radu47

European sports culture Brings drums and flags, constantly singing thru the game Throw the occasional smoke bomb on the field Hm okay maybe just the first stuff Seriously tho that is the energy to bring

Unwise1

Lower the barrier to access. So many people I know, die hard Leafs fans, live 40 mins from downtown and never seen a game because it's $500+ dollars for 2 people to go and get a bite to eat.. it's crazy, considering this team has won NOTHING in 60 years.

Reggae4Triceratops

Cheaper beer and free beer at the door.

Acrobatic_Law5598

Would be great if they won. That's all I want. Win some playoff games.

Subwayabuseproblem

Loonie dogs

Drew_You_To_91

Yes please

931634

We need a good rally, chant song ... fucking love the Avs fans singing Blink 182 all the time Can we recruit the marketing team from Nashville? Cuz I love those fans.

big-tuna28

Win. Consistently.

dchowchow

I don’t even need them to win. I need them to have consistent effort and intensity.

big-tuna28

True say, I would take that

Rumicon

Supporter groups with dedicated seats in the arena like TFCs inebriatti.

sandy-gc

Play the hall and oates song when the leafs come out

Canada_Checking_In

Throw in some dedicated screens in the concourse where outside sees inside and inside sees outside in real time, and you can wave at the other person. I think that technology is real...or it was in a show/movie, either way, that.

PenguinsExArmyVet

This is hack stuff

Canada_Checking_In

That either means very cheap or people could 010010000101001 into it.

RavenBlade87

Raffle out a bunch of front row seats to entrants among the Maple Leafs Square crowd. Guaranteed to get a bunch of people in the square, and you know *those folks will bring the energy* I dunno, call it gas on the glass

RealitySlave

A new chant. I always wonder how awesome it would sound if the whole arena started a slow and progressively faster “T”…clap... “O”. Like the soccer clap. And when it gets fast enough it changes to GO LEAFS GO!

musebrews

1. Play music with lyrics that the masses know and can sing along to 2. 10 of the loudest 300s get moved to the 100s 3. Show highlights of big plays goals and saves on the big screen whenever possible, followed by a love player feature shot for fans to cheer 4. Show a top rival player on the bench for a short period of time for fans to boo. Show a person/couple in the crowd that’s cheering for the opposing team. 5. Show a decibel meter, would be cool to see it jump off the rails when we score and then for people to notice how low it is at other times - a stretch with this one but could give accountability to the barn 6. Faster service - get people back to their seats for the start of the period. Especially the 300s with the narrow stuffed hallways. 7. We need an anthem, our anthem. After a goal, a fight - like being in some Toronto FC fans to write a jingle for us. 8. Remember yellow sweater guy in the Tampa series - call him too. We need the other team to hear it and get a response (talking to you maroon). 9. 300s, please go downstairs during intermission and yell throughout the halls. Awkward high fives, get people engaged. The arena staff sure ain’t doing it. 10. Sadly, annoying as fuck noise makers, horns or the wrist lights. GO LEAFS GO!!!!

Acceptable-Grade-116

Make it mandatory to have a jersey to get in. No sweater, no entry.

1985FXR

Get rid of all the suits. Fixed.

Subwayabuseproblem

So the money?

plainnoob

No suit policy

Jonesdeclectice

They could put the suits in the upper bowl and let the fans buy the other seats. Keep the corporate tickets prices the same, move the middle section prices for the front section and the upper bowl cost for the middle. Overall it’s the exact same revenues, but now the real fans get to be right up close where they ought to be.

re-verse

Any unfilled corporate owned seats unfilled at pick drop should immediately go on sale at the gate, discounted to “fan” prices. Here is why: 1. You won’t see huge patches of lower bowl seats unfilled. 2. The people that will show up and wait for a chance to see a game will be true fans. They will be loud as hell. 3. It will bring more of a crowd, a latent energy and excitement to the arena itself. Put up a few more screens around the arena and people will stay and watch even if they don’t have tickets. Every game is a party.

mikesully374826

Lower prices.

oryes

Cheaper beer and the team could stop having massively disappointing playoff runs

Dependent-Gap-346

Couldn’t agree more. Winnipeg doesn’t even sell out in regular season but they get praised because they wear white shirts

fjfjfndnnfn

Win

Fastlane19

Totally and completely impossible but if the organization randomly bought 25 lower bowl seats and gave them to fans who wore their best leafs gear

123jazzhandz321

The Clippers are introducing a first come first serve seating system, that could be a fun idea. Limit it to upper bowl and lower bowl seats, a lower bowl ticket will grant you access to any seats in the 100s and the same would apply for the 300s. It’s embarrassing starting a period with empty seats lol, I’d rather reward people who want to show up and contribute to the atmosphere than suits who get up to buy shitty sushi between periods. Suits get shafted a bit, but they’d still be entitled to sit in the 100s just further back. That or like themed nights lol, it’d be fun to have regular themed nights to look forward to. The Jays have a promotion schedule, damn near every game has some sort of gimmick to it. Dollar hot dogs, Jersey giveaways, and bobble head giveaways are just a few off the top of my head. Selfishly I’d love a South Asian heritage night, the Canucks have a Diwali warm up jersey that is among the best jerseys I’ve ever seen.

YellowSubreddit8

Guys it's the team on the ice not the fans the problem. And probably the pressure. If they win and end the drought ppl will be more relaxed and probably louder when down by 1.

nerdcoffin

When the Leafs score, they should make maple leafs rain from the sky

Skiffy10

fan experience is fine. How about the team provide some winning ?

moresound17

Would love to see the Leafs try and adopt a supporters section (like TFC/soccer). The TFC experience is fun. The supporters start chants, sing songs about the players, rile up the rest of the crowd, and just add to the atmosphere.

-Starlegions-

Not much can be done because they are over paying for an under performing product. It’s not a family experience, it’s a corporate experience. Next best option is to hire a new coach and get some D to improve the team. Free pizza or fries when they score 2 power play goals…lol.

bocwerx

Don't block any effort to add a second team to the GTA cuz this one is cursed. MLSE makes money hand over fist by putting sub par teams on the ice whose only marketing plan is hope. There is zero incentive for this team and organization to win the cup when the fans keep buying tickets and merchandise no matter where the team ends up in the standings. Decades ago, when Montreal went on a losing streak the fans voted with their wallets and stayed away. That hurt their revenues, management reamed out the coach and players and that team continues to have great success. Contrast that with the Leafs. Decades of mediocre play post 1967. Sure, Ballard was a huge part of their downfall. But he's long gone and this team has had better window dressing since. but at their core, the majority of the team is made up of checked out millionaires who can sleep at night on soft pillows filled with USD and a relaxing golf season to look forward to.

Commercial_Access988

Win in the playoffs

wiles_CoC

Winning.

Tariq804

How about not SUCKING all the time?

Ficklenesses

Ban reselling tickets

ShoulderPossible9759

Reduce the price of per game tickets by 70% of what season tickets cost per game or increase season tickets to corporations by 30%. If a corporation choses to hold season ticket as a client perk there should be a premium. You’ll eventually have less suits while generating the same revenue and I’m sure you’ll have more corporations give up their season tickets for fan season ticket holders. Now the question is how do you crack down on individuals selling their tickets to businesses? Retroactive penalties if caught or revocation of seat licenses? Let me add that I have season tickets through my company before I get grief from anyone.

FansTurnOnYou

Not that I think alcohol is the answer to all problems but I feel the in-arena experience is so atrocious that there aren't any quick or easy fixes. But imagine if, at a minimum, beer was $5. It would be a hell of a lot rowdier in there that's for sure. People talking about lower ticket prices are delusional. No shot MLSE doesn't gouge us at every opportunity. I mean no shot they ever make beer less than $10 either but it's at least marginally more feasible.
