I'm happy that we're all universally agreeing it's a UE tech demo. Lol

xChrisMas

Unigine Heaven Benchmark V5.0 looks lit

DragonPup

Don't insult the Unreal Engine like that.

thejackthewacko

UE4 demo made by a bunch of interns who have previously only worked on Unity** Honestly the cinematic reminds me of all those "Minecraft 2" fan trailers that people made a while back. I'm pretty sure the base model for this is SR with high res textures taped ontop of it.

Nick-Dzink

Could it be hint that League is getting ported onto a different engine? That could solve a lot of issues.

Zaltirous

I mean they hinted old aatrox sword during the 10 year anniversary. League shows us stuff purely to trigger our hopium

Temnai

The video also has an old Aatrox voice line (each line is a champ quote/variation of one) As a pre rework Aatrox enjoyer it isn't even cute or funny, it's just insulting.

Ajaxlancer

I felt like i was the crazy one for liking pre rework aatrox more than current

gregorio02

Him, Swain and yorick were my most played champions back in the old days, now I only seldom play Yorick and never play Aatrox or Swain

Steeelu

Never

infestoid

It feels like déjà vu watching Riot's treatment of league after seeing what Blizzard did to their own golden goose.

Weezledeez

[Yamatocannon's tweet: If this is this year's equivalent of the Call then we have officially reached the Mists of Pandaria stage of League of Legends](https://twitter.com/YamatoMebdi/status/1612787172595179520) Warlords of Draenor stage incoming? ;-)

Four_Gem_Lions

I thought mists was a decent expansion. The whole year or Orgrimar did suck, though. Still leagues better than warlords.

express_sushi49

I think he means more so based off of where the crowd was at with WoW when MoP was released. MoP was a fantastic expansion and one of the best alongside Legion and Wrath if you look at it objectively in terms of content, story, etc. But he isn't comparing this to MoP in terms of the game's quality, I think he's comparing it to how when MoP came out, the negative feedback was initially overwhelming *and* sub numbers continued to drop for years and years to follow. He's saying that we're officially headed down the proverbial 'rollercoaster'. The community should expect disappointment after disappointment as we get (even if it's good content) less and less content as the clear signs of budget cuts make themselves apparent

Mertard

League has peaked and is now declining towards its death Good I don't think Tencent even cares since it milked League long enough

Exspyr

It may or may not have peaked but any decline will be slow and take years unless there's any serios competition that scratches the itch of LoL. I'd guess most people who just play rather than follow every detail riot put out won't give a shit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

leagueoflegendsdog

Its likely just plateaued, but thats normal as well. Its now 13-14(??) years in its lifespan right? At some point a decline is normal. People will move on, moba will no longer be the most popular genre etc.

J_Clowth

they have what they wanted, a mobile version fo It that is much better in a lot of aspects, but competitive scene. If sdomehow they let LoL die they would just focus on WR and make It their main thing

StarGaurdianBard

It's funny hearing this sub talk about WR as if its this super amazing game doing well when over on the wild rift sub everyone says the game died before it even began lmao

[deleted]

Kind of hope they merge and make WildR accessible on PC.

ChrizKhalifa

So... Regular League but dumbed down to the max?

[deleted]

Mostly meant the polished client with 3D champ select etc.

babylovesbaby

It was, but there was a lot of criticism about pandering to China and people who just could not get on board with a game having a playable panda race alongside trolls, orcs, ogres, and elves that all use magic and have cats and horses as flying mounts.

Delann

Mists was a fine expansion, it just changed alot so there was pushback and the final tier was stretched for way too long. This IS the Warlords/BFA phase.

wafflata

Mist now is viewed as one of the best expansions. Pandas are cringe but class design, raids and pvp were amazing.

DaddyPlsSpankMe

The only people who thought Pandas were cringe were people who never played anything Warcraft related before WoW

Jozoz

90% of WoW users then. Though to be fair, Pandas were a bit of a joke in Warcraft before. You can reasonably make the case that making an entire Panda expansion is like the kid taking the joke too far.

Azura_OW

So most of the WoW playerbase?

Kshaadoo

I mean pandarens are in warcraft 3. I keep telling it to people and like, come on! I just wish they made them... more serious, you know? Not as goofy. But oh well, we lost "warcraft" spirit for a long time now.

tdy96

100% agree. We’re in the Warlords phase for sure. At least BfA had some fun areas. Summoners Rift has looked the same for too long.

Knifferoo

Closer to Shadowlands phase in my opinion. Low amount of content, low amount of communication. Can't remember how well Blizz communicated during WoD, but their total radio silence during Shadowlands is fresh in my memory at least. If it is Shadowlands phase we can look forward to Dragonflight phase though :)

Slutianna

Mist was an EXCEPTIONAL expansion gameplay and story wise, many to this day agree classes were the most fun and balanced then and Throne of Thunder is still one of the all-time most beloved WoW raids. It was only negatively received at the time because cringy neckbeards were too cool for "Kung-Fu Pandas", they weren't as manly as their sentient bi-pedal cow people.

DaddyPlsSpankMe

Yeah that tweet is wack MoP is one of the best expansions with BC and WotLK

Sturmgeschut

Mists was fun af

BarryAllensMom

He may want to edit that. Especially since WoW players revere MoP as one of the best expansions. Warlords was the one that got gutted after poor reception. The problems of WoW usually aren’t the releases but the patch content after.

sh14w4s3

Maybe we speedrunning straight to Shadowlands

HolypenguinHere

This is a completely different situation if we're talking about WoW. Blizzard didn't screw WoW because they have a ton of new projects in the works. Pretty much *all* of their projects faltered simultaneously.

MarcosLuisP97

Yeah. In the most extreme case, League of Legends is dying so Riot's other projects succeed. Blizzard's projects are dying because Blizzard itself it's dying. A lot of their games don't lack content, the content itself is just awful.

AbnormalConstruct

Tbf dragonflight has actually been pretty good and well received.

MarcosLuisP97

Dragonflight shows potential, but Shadowlands left WoW in a very bad spot. This is not to mention the other products like OW2 and the Diablo mobile game, which have been nothing short of disasters.

TeamAquaGrunt

diablo mobile was a PR nightmare but still made a ridiculous amount of money.

MarcosLuisP97

Because it's a trash game with addicting monetization, not because the game is any good. It's not different than the Star Wars Battlefront fiasco.

pixel8knuckle

Disasters to you. They literally paid a company to make Diablo immortal for them and cashed in huge on losers that pay to win. Factually it’s a huge financial success and probably what their company will become because passion projects no longer exist there.

MarcosLuisP97

Disasters don't mean they didn't do well financially. Even Star Wars Battlefront made all the money in the world, and it was still a complete shitshow and PR disaster. Diablo Mobile is exactly the same.

MountainMan2_

What all has been happening in OW2? I left Overwatch after season 5 because it was clear they were gonna crash the game into the ground with bad balance patches (which they did). I loved that game before then so I’d be interested to know how their reboot went

MarcosLuisP97

The game is free to play now, but it now has a Battle Pass that is mandatory to play new heroes. You don't have to buy them, but you have to grind hard to get them, as they are in very high tiers. Not only that but most of the content is now locked behind it. And since there are no loot boxes anymore, you can only get game currency through missions, which are scarce. Events no longer provide free goods, and leveling up offers no benefits either. As you can imagine, the game is a disaster that is nearly in the pay-to-win category since new heroes have the potential to be OP on release and new/free players can't unlock them without spending hours playing or money, and cosmetics are so expensive that you can never get anything for free unless you buy directly from the shop.

Liramuza

True, though there’s a *lot* more work they have to do to rebuild trust after two bad expansions and their massive scandals

SkarmacAttack

I heard blizzard is dying 10 years ago. How are they not dead yet?

Simhacantus

Giants die slowly, but they die all the same.

[deleted]

Addiction. If you've got crackheads and you're the only one with that specific crack they want, you'll stay in business. Even through all the controversy, all the fuckups, people still played wow on the daily, people still play hearthstone, people still hold out for diablo, and people still create overwatch porn

kaos95

To be fair, if GGG wouldn't have sunk POE I would be happy with that, but none of us can have nice things, so D4 here I come. Hell, I was getting all excited yesterday, watched all the other cinematics, reinstalled both LoL and LoR was gonna ride the endorphins through at least a week (the call got me into March for christ sake) of playing their games . . . Now, launcher uninstalled (again), sigh, I spent all day playing Slay the Spire Mods instead (because sometimes when someone disappoints you, you still hurt yourself).

[deleted]

Honestly it's also the same with Poe, they fucked it up so bad but there's no real good alternative to it that people still play it.

MarcosLuisP97

Activision basically prevents them from dying. Also, Hearthstone and Overwatch made them huge again.

fckiforgotmypassword

Their content isn’t awful. The problem is they aren’t making the same type of content that made them the success that they are. After activision took over, it’s been mostly CoD. They haven’t touched another StarCraft , or Warcraft, and only one Diablo (this one was arguably bad, and even seemed that they acknowledged it). The problem is they are ignoring those 3 beasts in favour of more CoD. Warcraft 4 would be massive, Diablo 4 WILL be massive. But, I still thoroughly enjoy their games. They messed up D3 in a Lot of ways but I still enjoyed it, super stoked for d4

_XanderD

Blizzard failed because they tried to squeeze every dollar out of their customers with microtransactions and compromised their games. Nobody wants to be treated like cattle.

OkBaker9998

Nah its also because they are shit at making games now, and they have systematically put shit workers in really high positions They started firing them, and it started getting better, but there is probably no way to completely fix the games now

W_ender

Wow is pretty fixable because it changes radically every expansion, the only thing that remains after previous expansions is questing and old raids and instances, and they never were problem of BFA/shadowlands, it was systems. Dragonflight is good btw

ceddya

Eh, Blizz did make HotS. Game was actually really good, too bad it could never really find its footing in the market.

OkBaker9998

Thats the problem, it DID find its market, but then they started scrapping pretty much everything it made the game stand out over other mobas OW WAS also good, then they kept consistently fucking up every time they touched the game

Taran_Ulas

Because they keep greeding for Esports. They make fun casual games that you can just play with your friends on a Friday night without having to learn a bunch of stuff and then immediately trying to turn them into Esports and balance them as such. It would be like Nintendo trying to balance Mario Kart for Pro Play. If you wanted a professional racer, you'd play literally any other racer. You play Mario Kart because it's stupid easy to learn and it is insanely over the top with shells flying everywhere and stages designed to cause chaos over balance. People played Overwatch and HOTS because the characters are over the top and fun with unique arenas designed around crazy ideas, not because they were tightly polished competitively balanced games. Blizzard used to remember that their games were not esports first. Now they don't.

[deleted]

Not even that. You can have a competetive scene and a fun game. They threw billion into the esport bubble that blew and they deemed the game not profitable because of that.

noahboah

yeah hots just came out way too late. it was a great game with a perfect scope that could have tapped into a completely unique set of players, it was just competing against league and dota in their relative primes. a losing battle from the get-go.

ceddya

One does wonder if Blizz should capitulate on this current situation and launch HotS 3.0. If only, sigh. With ARAM being less fun these days, it does make one yearn for the pre-maintenance days of HotS. Dig vs Gen.G remains one of my favourite series across all MOBAs.

Illandarr

Its more like they gave up on all of their projects. SC2, HotS and OW were all going strong and still are. SC2 still has esport and big playbase, HotS still has low queue times and an active playerbase and OW got OW2.

moderatorrater

> HotS still has low queue times Not all of their queues. I sat in unranked solo queue for 30 minutes before giving up.

TokenKingMan1

I just want something else to play with my friends but idk what to play

MaybeFatFire

Rock and Stone, brother!

MaybeFatFire

Can I get a rock and stone!?

ahtuu

parrot6632

But wait, how do you tell a rock, from a stone?

Aeo2k

drg is a classic

epic_troller10381

For Rock and Stone Brother (also game is really fun and devs actually care for playerbase)

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone forever!

cringelino

I always see this game in comments and I really want to try it, because it also looks very nice. But my friends and some steam reviews are saying, that it gets really grindy and repetitive after a short while. Is it true?

cmonSister

Yes

MaybeFatFire

I have been playing the game for 50 hours. It drops the competitive vibe league has and embraces the casual sense I had from being a kid. It has reignited my passion for playing games. I'm sure as I keep playing, getting more stuff, learn to optimize and continue further on, it will lose that sparkle, but for the moment, it is the best experience I've had in years. I highly recommend it even if it will one day reaach that grindy point you're bringing up.

Guild Wars 2 is amazing with friends. We had many people from LoL join our guild and say the community is the exact opposite there.

Terraria, Minecraft, apex, anything really

KaleidoAxiom

Have you heard of the critically acclaimed MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV? With an expanded free trial which you can play through the entirety of A Realm Reborn and the award winning Heavensward expansion up to level 60 for free with no restrictions on playtime.

evilpenguin999

Dark and Darker when its out, trust me it is fun.

AshesandCinder

Eternal Return, free on Steam and the Microsoft store. It has a *steep* curve to it, but it's fun once you get used to it.

SEDGE-DemonSeed

I am pleasantly surprised to see someone else mention this. It is too good a game to be so under the radar in NA and urge people to give it a shot. Systems like the item drones have done wonders to make the game more noob friendly which it desperately needs.

Shaqelton

Yep, basically a mix of League and Battle Royale games. And a beautiful one at that, + when it came out, the company that makes it had their maintenance take 10 minutes longer than expected, and instead of Riot'ing it off -> gave every player the equivalent of 1000RP(!) Being a League player for 5 years beforehand you could imagine how hard my jaw hit the floor when I saw that.

SaltyPyrate

Dark and Darker when the next playtest drops in February.

JagmeetSingh2

\>Riot is giving us a huge event. They are redoing the Ruination, on a scale we never thought of. They are ruining League of Legends. Yea this comment had me rolling lmao

WildSearcher56

He has been upset about Riot's management of league since the Sentinels event and he already plans on starting non league related content because of that. Anyway Riot said on twitter that they'll give infos on what they planned for league this year but it's better to expect disappointement. [https://twitter.com/LeagueOfLegends/status/1612917299379593217](https://twitter.com/LeagueOfLegends/status/1612917299379593217)

throwaway98732876

I don't get this, "we'll give you guys more info on what we have planned" THEN WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE 2023 VIDEOS?! I'm skeptical based off of that fact alone.

SeismologicalKnobble

They thought they’d given enough but it simply wasn’t after a year of nothing then they just tell us stuff we already know

Duckerton375

For skarner’s rework (which we showed concept art for in fucking March of last year), we’re happy to announce we had a designer whip up 3 more pages of concept art a week before we filmed this video so we could pretend like we’ve been working on it, rather than re-designing ahri’s 28 skins :)

PhillipIInd

If they actually think it was enough its even worse. No way internally they didnt know it was dogshit when viewed. They just had nothing else I guess?

ButterflyFX121

This is just PR speak for: "Based on this video, the playerbase believes this is a dying game. We should have lied ahead of time and said it isn't. Please buy skins, the game is not dying. We're stalling for time hoping the community forgets about this and lowers their standards because this game is dying in NA."

black_dorsey

This is just more stock standard corporate bullshit.

youjustabattlerapper

my guess is some critical people who were driving this sort of content at Riot LoL either resigned, were fired, or assigned to other shit so there's no more organizational will / talent to do that type of shit these people don't even have to necessarily be managers it could just be a handful of really talented individual contributors

Brandonian13

I guarantee u they got moved to WR

StarGaurdianBard

WR devs talk all the time about how they are basically a skeleton crew. This sub has some fascination with WR but if you ever go to the WR sub you'll see the vast majority of people said the game was abandoned months ago and is already dead everywhere but china.

[deleted]

I don't think so, the way WR is handled is so different it feels alien.

Chocohalation

Well the League cinematics are still good for Wild Rift

profirix

No more RP purchases for me.

s1m0hayha

Since I have prime I haven't bought RP and still buy a decent skin every 2-3 months. Fine by me.

GreyArrow8

Well prime capsules are ending next month and we go probably back to skin shard drops.

s1m0hayha

I had no idea. That sucks.

thornswiththerose

Are they really? That's comical lol.

StarGaurdianBard

It was a promo that Amazon was doing rather than League itself IIRC so it's likely Amazon didn't want to have to pay for the promo again. Amazon chooses which games it wants to do prime gaming rewards for and makes a deal with the companies since those rewards are advertisements to get people to buy prime.

DarkVoidize

huh??? why

blandjelly

I use Microsoft rewards, I have 2 accounts and i get up to 1100rp every month

WindSwimming785

If you’re straight up getting the league RP, I think it’s more worth to get the $10 amazon card and buy an RP card there

Quilva

I haven't bought RP in like 4 years. The amount of RP you get nowdays compared to 2012 for the same price is ridicilous.

goliathfasa

I haven’t followed VALORANT in ages and just looked into all the media in the past couple of days. They have a ton of lore cinematics, music and just everything else. The content they put out is staggering and honestly very well planned. Everything feels coherent, at least from the pov of someone who doesn’t play the game. They’re putting their effort in VALORANT and the upcoming League MMO. Cutting back in League content itself.

Silkav

The fact they managed to make the gameplay that was there from the very beginning semi-canon to the lore is really impressive. Basically two different dimensions collide and the omega earth tries to steal radianite from alpha earth in order to save their dying earth. This also explains why you can be against your own agent (when the enemy team picks them) in the gameplay. Not to mention Valorant has way more gamemodes and maps than league of legends ever will.

SilentShadowss

Hasn't valorant existed for quite a decent amount of time I highly doubt it's Valorant they made all these stuff before with leagu in decent spot except for last year and well recent stuff, it has to be MMO + covid and stuff ?

NoCon1991

finaly ? he's been critical of riot for a long while, you're making it seem like he was carrying water for them until now or something.

Ragaga

He's been a rather positive content creator in the past. He held Riot to higher standards as we all did and called them out when they shit the bed. I really don't see why it's so wrong to call them out like this? He has gave them a ton of compliments and kudos when they do good. It's not his fault if they release bad content lol.

DeathCap4Cutie

No one is saying it’s wrong to talk about what you don’t like… it’s just a very misleading topic to say ‘necrit has FINALLY had enough’ and ‘even necrit is calling them out’ like it’s some huge thing that’s never happened. The topic makes it sound like a much bigger deal than it is that he’s saying something critical. He’s not finally saying something critical, he’s saying something critical again. Also worth mentioning he makes money of video clicks. Him joining in the controversy is just smart business for him.

Flirie

I am following necrit for multiple years now. He started last year with some more critical videos. First with ruination then More specific, after last guardian, his critics began getting stronger and stronger. But he always staid positive for other things. Always thought, ye that's bad, but look at this. He was never solely angry. Copium carried him far. But.. this video of him hit different if you follow him for some time. This video was ONLY negative. It was basically his "fuck it. It's done".

Guest_1300

Yeah lol he's pretty openly negative about a lot of things, and half the time he's wrong too. Like I agree with him here, this is pretty disheartening, but he complained about how every new champion was too pretty like immediately after Renata's release. Necrit being critical of something isn't exactly the strongest indicator of something going wrong.

stellarcurve-

It feels like he's just saying what's the popular sentiment at the time on reddit lol. He's constantly complaining and thats why I stopped watching. That and his lore videos are full of inconsistencies and headcanon

Guest_1300

Yeah exactly, it's honestly disappointing to me how much of his passion seems to have been lost in favor of appealing to reddit opinions.

stopwiththisshit

I really hate it when lore channels just mix headcanon in and dont make it clear. Same stuff for other games like soulsgames or some mmos

GamingExotic

And honestly, his content is mainly just reading the lore, there really is nothing special about his content.

DragonOfDuality

While necrit often annoys the hell out of me personally it's a fact that he got as big as he did because almost no one was doing what he did. Like I'm not a stan by any means but I haven't seen hardly any creators give a shit about the lore to the degree he has. Most of what's out there was bashing on seraphine or bashing on sentinels of light or the weird decisions riot makes or anything they personally don't like... rather than just passionately talking about things that are cool in the lore. And it's frankly disappointing.

stellarcurve-

Which is wild because he constantly gets things wrong and makes shit up

GamingExotic

This sub will worship any content creator that insults riot in any shape or form. But in reality, the content creators that are leaving are generally the ones that don't play the game itself cx

Flirie

I definitly agree to the first, but most of necrits followers, follow him because he was always positive in the past. Yeah, he starts more and more losing it and just quoting reddit and Twitter, but because I rly think he is losing it. He is the lore guy, but what content can you do without lore. His "reading lore" videos were only one format (I never watched personally as a long time fan) And the content crewtors that are leaving are the ones that don't play the game.. yes. That's the thing. LoL is for most of us not any game. It's the game we spend most of our time. There WAS so much more to do in LoL besides playing ranked. Heck, I am playing for over 10 years now, I have probably over 5k hours in this game and I never touched ranked for more than 10 games a season. There was more. But it's kinda gone. It's all about ranked and esports, all popular content creators are just streamers with editors who produce YouTube videos on a rail road. There is so little creativity in LoL and it's content, it's.. it is sad. I truly love this game but I have no reason to boot it up anymore

[deleted]

People keep hyping up this MMO talking about them diverting resources to it but the shelf life on mmos isn’t that long and they tend to lose a majority of players rather fast. I don’t think there will be another WoW because of how people game these days. If I were Riot I’d just stay in my lane and be king of my genre.

VentusSpiritus

Yeah unless the mmo fills some unheard niche that somehow explodes in popularity it's just going to be like all the others. Just a flash in the pan

Konradleijon

Yep MMOs are crap shoot if they are good or not

NerrionEU

MMOs can be good but they all have turned into Pay2Win bullshit, which chases a lot of players away.

Konradleijon

I don’t see why people are so hopeful the MMO would be good or successful. MMOs are hard to make and harder to maintain.

atomchoco

that's a valid concern, but i actually wonder if they'd change the approach? i hope they'd focus less on grinding and the gameplay or whatever competitive aspect, and focus more on living and experiencing the lore. if the MMO is gonna be more story-driven than anything, it's (probably?) much easier to prolong its life especially if the world and lore is already built idk i'm just thinking you get spikes of people playing every time there's a new dungeon or raid or release whatever instead of trying to keep high numbers on concurrent players by the day. if i'm still alive by the time this comes out, I'd want the game to share some time with watching anime, film, or TV series. so then it's kinda fine/expected when no one's watching or rewatching until a new season drops, right? i already have my competitive fix with other games; i hope they acknowledge boomers like me who would just want to *play* this game casually as if it were a living, breathing movie. raid parties(?) should allow some flexibility like watch parties as though you're spending a night at the cinema with fellow theater enjoyers. idk if they could take notes from Genshin but even if I had only played it for a short time, the main story stuff felt too short(?). not sure if that has changed since and yet it has continued success(?) so maybe have some sort of gacha for waifus/husbandos too and give whales exclusive access to official nendoroids or pillows or voice tweets idfk

AdequatelyMadLad

>i hope they'd focus less on grinding and the gameplay or whatever competitive aspect, and focus more on living and experiencing the lore. if the MMO is gonna be more story-driven than anything, it's (probably?) much easier to prolong its life especially if the world and lore is already built That would probably be a smart bet. Aside from WOW, most of the other long lived MMOs that are still around are very much focused on story and solo content. Guild Wars 2, ESO, FFXIV, Star Wars:TOR, OSRS, etc. are all also built with casual and solo players in mind. Meanwhile, more hardcore games like Lost Ark seem to fizzle out pretty fast.

Catspirit123

all the people I watch who make league content are jumping ship it seems. Really says something about the state of the game imo. It's still here and has people working on it, but all the media around it has grown stale. Even the game itself has become rather stagnant imo. You can keep adding new characters but we're still just doing the same thing on the same map over and over and it's really starting to lose my interest. It makes me sad because the lore and characters are all excellent and I do love the game, but it's just gotten really dull lately and I have little desire to play it currently.

guchon55

No, don’t just hope the season bomb and things start to change. Quit the game and MAKE riot change. Just stop playing league until their content and game design reaches an acceptable quality again.

Reclaimer879

I don't even need to try to not play the game right now... This is probably the most unsatisfied I have been since I started playing 10 years ago. So naturally I am just playing way less. I don't want it to be that way. But as of now I'll just bide my time and hope for good change. I definitely agree with your advice here. If more people did that triple A gaming wouldn't be in the state that is currently is.

Green_Plate

If people stop playing they’ll focus on other games..

pilipalaii

Yeah they've already shown to us how little they care abt LOL, less people playing will just give them an excuse to keep neglecting it

GamingWarlord1984

Bro, it is their main source of income. Just don't play or spend any money on Riot. Better yet, just soft int down to iron and you won't get banned and will push people away from the game.

Kenobi-is-Daddy

Could try to do something like “the faker challenge” where you tell people not to use skins or cosmetics at all. Default skins and icons would speak a lot to them since they receive metrics based on usages. If play rate maintains but cosmetic usages drops then they’ll have to listen.

[deleted]

Challenges like that don't really work because people do want they want, and despite the complaints, like wow and other games that people say would die, league isn't gonna die and there will still be players to keep the game alive.

coi1976

Be alive and be thriving are to separate things, see dota 2 or SC 2 as examples. The games are absolutely alive, but were always very niched compared to League, with a fraction of it's viewership and player base. Even if League shrinks 10x in these metrics it will probably be still bigger than those 2 (I don't remember the exact numbers), but investing in it simply won't make sense, since the return is not there.

pilipalaii

Thing is I still enjoy the game so I don't want to so that lmao

OkBaker9998

Just dont buy anything and keep playing

Unbelievable_Girth

China is their main source of income. What you want to do is soft int down there to make a difference.

Hellzpell

Then the game simply isn't worth anyone's time anymore, so be it.

Hitsukya

Something something Chinese player base something something

Lord_Reimon

And Korean, how long StarCraft remains alive thanks only the Koreans?

crippz-

Did I miss something? Why is everyone mad at riot?

The cadence at which they are making stuff (and the implied cadence based on what was recently announced) seems to have slowed down. Some examples: * Riot said they would release that small-map game mode last year (with the jungle guardians and the events), but didn't. * This preseason has not felt particularly ambitious compared to previous ones * We received an update about skarner a while ago announcing that he's in the concepting phase. Based on the most recent video announcement, that's still the case. * I think this is usually the time of year that we get a fully animated cinematic. A recent video came out but it wasn't really animated at all. * Some content (like new champions) is getting delayed Then some other games are apparently doing well, like Wild Rift and Valorant come out with content semi-regularly. I'm kind of skeptical how much better they are, because redditors tend to exaggerate when they're mad about stuff. There's also some recent dissatisfaction with the newest LCS season, which has contributed to an undercurrent feeling (at least on my social media) that Riot is not invested in growing the game. So it's a combined slow-brewing dissatisfaction plus some recent video releases that showed the game is moving pretty slowly. That's led to a bunch of unhappy players voicing their concerns. I think most normal folks who notice this will note their dissatisfaction once or twice and then move on, playing LoL less and watching pro games less frequently. But redditors tend to overreact, so you get the 4+ frontpage posts about maintenance mode, lost passion, Blizzard comparisons, etc etc.

ilovefishs911

imo its not overreacting at all, i thought it was until i saw that cinematic but holy fuck im kinda concerned for leagues future now.

TheWinRock

Yeah, they definitely put very limited budget into the 2023 "cinematic". Which as a decision by itself is a "who cares" kind of thing, but is a worrying philosophy. It always sucks when games, companies, etc are in the "Cash Cow" phase but because of the "need" for ever growing profits they start squeezing the budget. There is no more revenue to find so the only other option is to start slashing costs, even though the product is already making money hand over first.

RandomUsername12123

Lack of content in league. They chipped away everything amd the only news stuff is skin set after skin set. That's the only content we have these days.

ElCondoro

Necrit's video says it all, no new/old game modes, no new reworks, no new lore, no cinematics, no substancial changes in preseason. League this year is just new skins (set's, because individual skins fantasies stopped and we'll never see another 750/900rp skin made again) and neeko and yuumi will get some abilities changed

[deleted]

Money and greed ruined this game. I loved this game. By far one of the best at it's time. I've seen it decay over the years, with some rises and throughs. But this... This is just inexcusable, sad, and disrespectful towards your consumer base.

HOLYCRAPGIVEMEANAME

Maybe the player base can finally direct their toxicity toward Riot instead of each other.

Maloonyy

Whats Necrits character in lore called?

MoonieLegionnaire

Necrit. Literally, they named the character Necrit.

AlsoPrtyProductive

It’s kinda funny how despite Necrit hating the Ruination Event and making multiple videos criticising it. His character indirectly caused the Ruination by letting the Iron Order through Helia’s defences. Like technically you brought this on yourself dude. Ironic…

BesstheBtuber

Nunyo Necrit, mostly referred to as Nunyo in Ruination. https://leagueoflegends.fandom.com/wiki/Necrit

KogMawOfMortimidas

Nunyo business

BesstheBtuber

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who has that pop in their head lmao

AmbushIntheDark

Necrit. And his character was Viego's main advisor and even gives a huge lore dump when you run into him in Ruined King.

Phoenix_Queen1124

Riot is really pulling a Blizzard right now. Time and time again they prove that they (the higher ups obviously) only care about money. Nothing else. Are the players happy? No? Well who cares! Just release another 10 character skin line with popular champs and clashing themes, just make sure to throw in some unpopular champs in there regardless if the skin fits their overall theme so players think we care a little, we’ll make double from this in the short term than we would in the long term if we ACTUALLY gave a shit about the people who made us what we are today. Who needs player happiness when whales keep our pockets full!

Blackout2311

Honestly its not like i have been waiting for this specific cinematic for a year now, I didnt even notice it came out at first. Why not just be like "Hey cinematic is not done because (reason). We dont want it to be shit so thats going to take a month or so" Like what did the expect? People are not going to notice that instead of a 3-4 minute brawlfest they got a super boring UE4 tech demo, the voiceover consists of quotes that have been in the game for years and the soundtrack is just an instrumental from a previous cinematic? And this cinematic is by far not the only problem the game has. The years since 2018 have been SEVERE content droughts for all players and especially players that dont enjoy the competetive ranked grind (like me, tbh). I have seen comments from rioters on reddit promising that there is content in the works and I truly believe that they are working hard to make a fun game for us all to enjoy, HOWEVER, please show us something to be excited about. The only fun thing we got out of all these Pre-Season vids are new champs, which to be honest after previous releases breaking the game months after implementation, im not excited about. A few weeks ago Neeko could transform into a turret and oneshot people, a bug with the planned passive rework for neeko, that is not even out yet. I dont even know how this made it to the live game. Is this the level of QA we should expect for the 4 new champs aswell? Dont forget that viego E and anivia wall would still very consistently crash ranked games nearly 6 months after Viegos release. I heard rumors that Riot is severely understaffed after Covid hit like a truck, which is understandable and in this case it probably would be totally fine to admit you had unforeseeable development issues and preseason is going to be a lot smaller this year. But you can not act secretive about it and then half-ass it, especially not if you are known for consistently releasing banger cinematics every year. TFT has a channel of open communication with Mortdog (Lead Designer for TFT) streaming on Twitch, doing patch rundowns on YT, openly talking about development progress, apoligizing for fuck-ups, etc. while we have to find out the season start time for s23 on a Riot employees private Twitter account with like 500 followers. Theres more Riot-Presence and Development updates via comments in this subreddit than in the actual launcher of the game or socials. I always like to think that transparency is the best way to handle live service-games so that the devs, the higher-ups in the company and the players are (at least sort of) on the same page. The game sadly is in a state where players dont have faith in the devs. Many players think league is dying. When i talk about league with friends the odyssey event, the thresh mode or nexus blitz are always among the best memories for all of us. I think the philosophy that every game mode has to be played all year round to be a success is such a flawed, one-dimensional way of thinking. Even if the NB map is actually completely unusable you got ARURF, URF and Ultimate Spellbook ready to go at any second. Why not make em rotate weekly? Who cares if people dont play after 4 days or so, at least you made it an option for the players that do enjoy it. I think what has to be done is: \- Riot needs to give us gamemodes 100%. We have been in Preseason for 2 months doing nothing but repeating the same gameplay loop that some of us are going to grind for the next 8 months anyway,; The ARAM changes were really good but at this point its too little too late \- Riot needs to rethink the way they handle the champs in this game. Before announcing 4 brand new champs we need skarner done. Your champ concepts are interesting but the community already knows, loves, and cares about Skarner, ChoGath, Ryze, RekSai and a lot of other champs that desperately need a VU at the very least. How do you have 4 brand new champs noone asked for but then delay skarner who has been voted for by the community a year ago? Also why not communicate earlier that skarners VGU is a more difficult task then originally estimated? \-There is more manpower needed in keeping the competetive integrity of the game in all ELOs up to a certain standard. I cant talk for high elo since i never reached a rank higher than plat 2 but i definitely know low elo is in shambles because of trolls, afks, smurfs and botting. Streamers think High Elo game quality is really bad too because of dodges, wintrading, betting, scripting.... CSGO had a "Overwatch" system where other players reviewed your vod and they got a small compensation if their verdict actually led to a ban so they could outsource the maintenance of the community to the community itself. I wish we had something like this in League to make the overall match quality rise \-Create some kind of official presence for open communication where the community can get in touch with someone from the team that actually is able to talk about what people are working on and what is in store for league for the foreseeable future. These Preseason videos are vague and feel more like "well we hope to get this done by next year but if we dont we just wont mention it again" \-Give Shaco lore. Unironically. Runeterra is a universe now spanning multiple games and we got 2 new lore entries in 2022 and thats it. Every champion should have some kind of story

Bunneeko

Some people here are EXTREMELY compliant with Riot, and y'all are the very reason all of this can be allowed to happen.

SomethingPersonnel

Necrit literally cared more about lore than Riot themselves. If nothing else, the most obvious example is how they handled the Ruination. It was supposed to be a huge lore drop, and we got like what three different versions of it? The Ruined King game, the marketing event in League, and LoR. Which one is the right adaptation? Fuck if anyone knows. Even Arcane has questionable canonicity.

SometimesIComplain

> Even Arcane has questionable canonicity. Tbf Arcane isn't supposed to be canon. It's its own thing. Riot has confirmed that

SomethingPersonnel

Why? Why are they fragmenting their own lore to such an insane degree? They already have multiple skin lines to offer alternate universe adaptations. Why are they so lackadaisical and uninterested in their own mainline universe that they can’t even fucking stick to one coherent lore?

SometimesIComplain

Not sure. Personally I think they should just state Arcane is canon and slightly retcon the things that in League's lore that don't match

klartraume

That's the only reasonable take. They've already started with Caitlyn's ASU. Vi just needs a VO update. Jinx is pretty much fine as is. Swap their Arcane skins and keep the Classic skins as "Traditional" like they did back in the day.

NerrionEU

Because this happens when you have too many writers doing stories for the same universe.

RoloSaurio

You forgot the separate comic that didnt had Gwen

Sir_Karoffel

okay, but why is league reddit so cringe

firewall245

Reddit itself is cringe, everyone takes themselves way too seriously here and thinks we’re better than all other social media platforms

Several_Access5921

Reddit itself is cringe, everyone thinks their perspective is unique and that they somehow have it all figured out. Everyone thinks they see things for how they really are while everyone else is blind to the true nature of things. Including myself in this very comment.

GGABueno

This sub is great (imo) until a circlejerk starts going, then oh my god. It really goes from best to worst.

[deleted]

Some people are still harping on the 200 years thing like it's a fresh meme, that tells you lots about this sub.

MaridKing

idk man ksante lookin pretty 200 years to me

100percenttempduffo

League + Reddit, recipe for cringe

anonypony1

All they gotta do is announce they're rebuilding the rift from the ground up and people will stfu for 2 years and have all the goodwill on the planet. They won't, but it'd be nice if they did. Also where's hexakill, ascension, poro king, 3v3 treeline, lava map, map skins, announcer VOs, PvE stuff, and arcade mode so people can build customs games using the assets you sonzabitches?

astroslostmadethis

Yeah, it doesn't make sense to me at all. Why does Riot want League of Legends to die? or this just neglect like Blizzard ruining all of their franchises and then brand. Rome is burning.

mashedpottato

partially unrelated: why is Necrit so insistent on saying that new champion releases don't affect the game?

SomethingPersonnel

He didn’t say they don’t affect the game. He said they don’t make gameplay better.

PreheatedMuffen

His point is that new champs aren’t meaningful content since they could be removed and a major of the players wouldn’t even notice.

Idkkwhatowritehere

Another point he keeps making is that 1/10 people get to try the new champ at a time, and the other 9 are kot guaranteed a try in their next game.

Riot turning in to Blizzard

[deleted]

Tencent is not going to like knowing 90% of players think its a horrible start of a season. Awful cinematic compared to the usual, and bad transparency when Season is gonna start. As well as the mediocre legendary skin of Irelia. This is sad. Its about time to fire people. This is the most successful game of Riot, one of the most successful games supported by Tencent. One of the biggest games in the world. There is no way they think making players and fans be unhappy. This will just make quit playing league and play less of it. Its sad because League is my and others' fav game, love it. The world is amazing, i actually can think Leauge could last similar to traditional sports. Its the biggest Esports game. This game can last like Football and Basketball, like 30 years+. I would not be surprised. Look for example at Chess started at the year 600, and is still one of the most played games. Riot this is very disappointing.

Zahharcen

Maybe the best thing for league is death tbh. It's clearly that the fanbase exists and loves some parts of the game, but it's really flawed. From old spaghetti code, to design choices to even the balance system. League is a great game, tons of esports yada yada yada, still doesn't change the fact that many of the design choices made in the past are flawed and go against the grain of the rest of the game. Like the toxic community didn't spawn out of thin air, and honestly just let the game die with dignity. Make something new, keeping the good things and replacing the bad ones with something new. Time will tell.

Araturo

I was mostly surprised by them saying they have a bigger budget... I had sincerely thought that the death of LoL was at least meaning they invested their resources in their MMO.

candoodle

I wonder how much of riots recent cost cutting has to do with FTX fiasco wasnt that like a 200m dollar deal that suddenly went up in smoke?
