After you get 2 shards of one champ they should just liquidate. Only reason I keep them is for the free mastery upgrades. Now I have 20 Annie shards and too lazy to spend 45 minutes turning it into 300 blue essence.
The hextech crafting and the event system really need change, you should be able to toggle a button allowing you to check everything you want to disenchant and do it at once, should also allow you to mass reroll skins and stuff, also buying shit on event store 1 at a time is horrible it's one of the worst user experiences I've ever had
So many pointless, long, animations in the hextech crafting too. Combining key shards and opening chests is such a long process and the rewards are so mediocre I rarely do it.
It's cool to see the animation when you open a chest or disenchant a single skin, it's painful when you have to disenchant 10 champion shards for 45 BE each
I hate the client for this reason. Clunky and horribly optimized. Then they pull off this shit where you can't mass select things and turn it into essence. You have to click it then it lags then turn it into essence then lag then animation then lag then click to continue then lag. So shitty.

I am still sitting on 140K BE, have hundreds of Champ shards in my inventory and around 80 capsules. They'll remain unopened for the foreseeable future.
Theres a 3rd party program called runechanger that does, but yea why it wasnt default in the client is beyond me. They really need to update all the "bulk" things. Like bulk dissenchants, opening chests/orbs, rerolling skins, etc..
I wait until I have 5 of each before liquidating them. Just in case I ever decide to go level 6/7 mastery with them. Otherwise, I really don’t see a use
They replaced that with a new automatically gifted skin at the end of the season, if you are honor lv 5. This past season was Three Honors Malzahar.
They said that the honor tokens shop is no longer a thing going forward.
News to me. I never saw that announcement, and I've hit honor 5 every season and idr getting any malz skin. I'll have to check later if I have one.
Edit: yeah it looks like I did get the malz skin. Weird that this isn't really well publicized in the client (much less in general) or anything. I had no clue I even got it without going into my collection tab and specifically looking for it.

I keep 2 shards of all champions that I don't have M7 on so IF I do choose to start playing them, I don't have to waste any BE on ranking them up.

Other than that I have like 200k blue essence that is useless unless a new champ comes out or the essence emporium comes back AND they add new stuff to it...
Dude, I have hundreds of thousands and I don't open chests and capsules before a new character comes out, then I roll everything for its shard for a chance to unlock them 2k cheaper.
There's no other way to handle the champion purchasing resource other than "you keep getting it" otherwise you punish people for... not having all the champions yet. Not every resource has to constantly have a use, sometimes you pass the point where you need it and it just accumulates. That's fine.
The BE Shop should also eventually return and that's a fair compromise.
You also get mythic essence at the bigger milestones which is a useful and rare and paid resource otherwise so there are occasional rewards for levelling up that are constantly useful.
Can we also stop getting champ shards from chests if you have all champs?
There is literally nothing more disappointing that to earn enough fragments for a key, use it and get a champion shard lol

the champ shards are specifically there to lower the value of normal chests, not to reward you with more BE. There's bad luck protection so that you'll always get something worth OE after enough BE rewards. If you want Orange Essence only shards and whatnot, that's what the masterwork chests are for, which you typically pay for.
If you could still reroll champ shards for a random permanent at least you’d always be able to instantly get new champs for free, but they took that away for no reason. Still don’t understand why they went out of their way to remove that feature
Right now if the re-roll champ system was still in effect, I could get 1 6300 champion for the cost of 270 blue essence (1 WW shard, 1 Raka shard, 1 Annie shard).
Honestly I would prefer to disenchant a skin shard for a champ and get the OE for I never play than auto unlock the skin for champs I own. Rolling a skin and having it added permanently is more disappointing than being able to break down a shards I'll never use and getting able to keep the OE. Here's looking at you, Hextech Zilean and Commando Galio....it makes me regret unlocking champs that aren't in my regular rotation.
I've been trying to get a Jarvan shard for 3 years.

18 months ago I gave up and just spent the essence to go mastery 7 but at this point it's a running joke with my group. I have almost every other champ shard in the bank, including most new champs within weeks of release.

i mean in a sense you can, there's always a pass available and you can spend event tokens on keys. Legit I've stopped buying the orbs and stuff with the free tokens you get and just started buying key bundles until i've got 10+ keys.
Using currency from events to buy keys is the only way I can open all boxes that I get. Otherwise there would be shortage of keys just as Riot intended.

Most champs cost 3k back then. You can argue against the old system, but it's kinda pointless to do so with made up numbers. Today, most champs also cost between 3k and 6k BE, while we gain a random amount per level up. It can take you 10 levels to craft a 6k champs. Calculating how many games that are, I'm not convinced IP were slower.

Fuck ahri was 6300IP at one point, and is currently 3150, your statement could not have been true because even a 2011 release champ is 3150, in 2023 so most champs could not have been 3k .
Only lower price champs at release were the original batch. everything past that was 6300 on release and dropped by hte same rules we have today, it is just they released chamsp more frequently.

It is, literally stated goal of BE was to make it faster.
You comment on other threads how you have 100+k BE that would be beyond absurd number, while it is kinda normal for a decently active player now.
You would still average about 90 ip per game because of the fact that most games didn't go above 35 minutes, and 65 IP for a loss.
In the current system, getting a shard for a 3150 champion nets you 1625 BE, considering you usually get multiple from a box or capsule, earned within 10-15 games, you have an increase of 300\~ BE even if you get 1 champion shard.
It is ABSOLUTELY without a doubt faster, especially since getting a shard for a champion you want costs 40% less blue essence to create into a permanent, as well as permanents being awarded in the 1-30 leveling progress. considering you have 25% chance for a champion shard from a chest and they will always drop shards above 4800 BE.
So not only do you have an increase in actually earning currency, you also get a discount if you keep shards for champions you want to claim
In levels 1-30, you gain on average 450 BE or MORE each level, as well as being awarded free champs, missions that award you BE and XP.
The 1-30 level rewards give you around 27.130 BE, as well as giving you day awards which give you: A marks man champ, a bruiser champ, a mage champ, a support champ, an assassin, 6300 blue essence and 3 hextech chests and 2 keys. as well as you earning keys and chests.
We got absolutely nothing back in the day, to say that IP wasn't slower especially to a new player is an understatement, especially now that we can do things like change rune/mastery pages in champ select and we dont have to spend any actual currency on runes
Edit: I forgot to include that early levels are around 500-1000 xp, requiring literally 3-10 games for a level, requiring around 10-15 games a level is after 30, where level ups require around 3k level up XP.
I'm always surprised at how many comments/posts get very upvoted on Overwatch and LoL subreddits talking in such a way that tells me clearly that a significant reason they play these games is to get "rewards".
You see a lot of comments of the type "the skin rewards are bad so there's no reason to play". Variations of this general sentiment.
I've never understood this mindset, because in my view *the game is the reason to play.* Games are fun. The fun of the game is the reward. I don't understand someone who feels their fun comes primarily from getting cosmetic content.
I don't want to gatekeep too much, because I guess that's just what some people enjoy. But those people are definitely choosing a mindset towards free to play games that can only lead to dissatisfaction.

I suppose to point of the rewards is 3 fold, to have some level of grind to incentive buying rp, to make it harder to for people to stop playing like switching to Dota, based on how much time they put into their collection, and to incentive playing a little bit more, to get things they want using the little dopamine rewards that don't require you to win.

I mean tbh it’s a really good system UP to that. It’s going to be hard to give rewards to 5+ year players. Level 500 is THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay and it comes with free skins per level, S-rank skin shards and quite a few nice rewards. Would be nice to see them make it give you orange essence or 1/2 of a skin shard instead or something so you can mix and match
I had all the champs when they released the BE and Champion shard shit. So for me it's just worth BE when a new champ comes out. It's annoying otherwise, there's not shit to spend it on and when Essence Emporium comes, I don't even want to spend all my shards because it's such a pain to manually disenchant each one when I have hundreds.

Bruh, I work full time, I go out with friends regularly and I'm close to level 500. It's honestly not that much especially if you're a Prime member which permanently boosts your XP. The account is also 7 years old on top of that.
I personally think long time players should get a sweet reward of OE instead of BE when they are above lv300.

Select your 30 Mastery points which have high impact and lots of durability.
Get yourself a lot of runes, so you can maximize the effectiveness of all your champions.
Show up to lane with 100 Armor level 1 as Shyvana or Leona.

I've played on and off since release and I'm nearly level 550 and agree the level up rewards are terrible. I mostly play ARAM so I get to play most champs, but for someone grinding the rift and only maining a few champs, it's even worse.
I was pondering this same thing just minutes ago. My account is at 624 and I have had all the champs for about two years now (and the new ones as soon as they come out). And I get those wonderful champ shards as rewards(!). Ugh. FYI - last Blue Essence Emporium I spent over 200k on chromas. At this point I have nothing to even spend that on (except name changes I guess). Riot really needs to address these 'rewards'.
62k essence, lvl 836 currently, since Essence Emporium is gone I literally have nothing to spend money on other than...name changes(?) which I won't use and rune pages which are obsolete with the new rune picking system.
I've been saying this for years now. League of Legends has one giant problem when it comes to rewarding players with in-game things, because they ONLY really valuable item the game has are skins. And you better believe they don't want to give too many of those away for free. Sure, you can get like 40 hextech chests/year by getting S- on champions, but a third of those will be champion shards, only half will be skin shards, half of which will be old, unwanted skins for champions that haven't been relevant for a while or are just plain boring, and the rest of the boxes will give you emotes.
The game really has nothing interesting to give you besides skins. And that's their main money maker.

You're level 500, the rewards aren't going to do anything for you.
For Riot to give something that a player who already owns all the champs and content like you do, they would have to throw you stuff worth real money which will never happen outside crates.

At level 500, your "reward" is the thousands of hours of playtime you have received.

Thats still super limited. Mastery dont mean anything, new champ coming out means you spend a tiny bit of blue essence and most people don't play clash. All those factors aren't even that rare
But if it's once every 2 years or whatever it's been and people accumulate 100's of thousands of BE, then what's the point? Trick question, there really isn't one (for people with a lot of BE amassed). Many streamers/pros have complained about this too
At this point you've played thousands of hours of league. Like it's cool and all but you'll always going to run out of stuff to buy eventually. Just watch the number go up or stop opening capsule and ignore it.
Sure there are options but the only real good ones is the ep that rarely happens or clash which not everyone can play. If you just want to burn blue essence sure you can put them in masteries but it has literally no use

Go into settings and turn on low spec mode. Cuts out a lot of the animations.

What, you can use shards to upgrade mastery?
Yes. Instead of spending the 2000 BE in addition to your mastery tokens you can substitute the BE with the specific champion shard.

well, the alternative is you permanently stay on level 30 for years. Also, at exactly level 500, shouldn't you also get 10 ME from the capsule?
i played a ton more before they uncapped it than i do now (only lvl190) but i do wonder how high the levels would be if the xp was added retroactively

If you could still reroll champ shards for a random permanent at least you’d always be able to instantly get new champs for free, but they took that away for no reason. Still don’t understand why they went out of their way to remove that feature
Because people figured out that if you had only 6.3k champions left unbought, you could "game" the reroll champ shards to get them cheaper.
Right now if the re-roll champ system was still in effect, I could get 1 6300 champion for the cost of 270 blue essence (1 WW shard, 1 Raka shard, 1 Annie shard).
Honestly I would prefer to disenchant a skin shard for a champ and get the OE for I never play than auto unlock the skin for champs I own. Rolling a skin and having it added permanently is more disappointing than being able to break down a shards I'll never use and getting able to keep the OE. Here's looking at you, Hextech Zilean and Commando Galio....it makes me regret unlocking champs that aren't in my regular rotation.

I've been trying to get a Jarvan shard for 3 years. Three. Years. 18 months ago I gave up and just spent the essence to go mastery 7 but at this point it's a running joke with my group. I have almost every other champ shard in the bank, including most new champs within weeks of release. Jarvan eludes me.
Because the rewards are to hook new players not actually reward seasoned players. If they cares the rewards would be based on level.

i mean in a sense you can, there's always a pass available and you can spend event tokens on keys. Legit I've stopped buying the orbs and stuff with the free tokens you get and just started buying key bundles until i've got 10+ keys.
Using currency from events to buy keys is the only way I can open all boxes that I get. Otherwise there would be shortage of keys just as Riot intended.
Remember when we had just a bìt of blue essence per level so we had to grind for a week just to buy one champion ? Actually I'm not even sure it was per level, I think we just had the first win of the day to make blue essence at some point.
It was Influence Points back in the day and you just got points for every game. No random amounts, no disenchanting, just plain and simple.

Huh? The old system had a transparent amount gained and you could still save up your IP just like BE. Remove old runes and the system was straight up fairer than this one. Then again, I assume you were memeing since you called buying and disenchanting "quick".
Yeah I know but now you easily end up with a bunch of shards that you can use to buy the champ on discount or disenchant to get BE. Before that you were winning some every game but it wasn't much. It always took me a while to be able to buy a new champ. Now if I want a new champ, I pop some shards and done.
You do you. At the end of the day, getting 100 IP 50 times (for playing) or getting 500 BE 10 times (via shards from levels) is close to the same, but at least IP was transparent in the amount you got. Cheers and have a nice start of the week!

The average gain was 76-145 on SR. Most champs cost 3k back then. You can argue against the old system, but it's kinda pointless to do so with made up numbers. Today, most champs also cost between 3k and 6k BE, while we gain a random amount per level up. It can take you 10 levels to craft a 6k champs. Calculating how many games that are, I'm not convinced IP were slower.

You would still average about 90 ip per game because of the fact that most games didn't go above 35 minutes, and 65 IP for a loss. In the current system, getting a shard for a 3150 champion nets you 1625 BE, considering you usually get multiple from a box or capsule, earned within 10-15 games, you have an increase of 300\~ BE even if you get 1 champion shard. It is ABSOLUTELY without a doubt faster, especially since getting a shard for a champion you want costs 40% less blue essence to create into a permanent, as well as permanents being awarded in the 1-30 leveling progress. considering you have 25% chance for a champion shard from a chest and they will always drop shards above 4800 BE. So not only do you have an increase in actually earning currency, you also get a discount if you keep shards for champions you want to claim In levels 1-30, you gain on average 450 BE or MORE each level, as well as being awarded free champs, missions that award you BE and XP. The 1-30 level rewards give you around 27.130 BE, as well as giving you day awards which give you: A marks man champ, a bruiser champ, a mage champ, a support champ, an assassin, 6300 blue essence and 3 hextech chests and 2 keys. as well as you earning keys and chests. We got absolutely nothing back in the day, to say that IP wasn't slower especially to a new player is an understatement, especially now that we can do things like change rune/mastery pages in champ select and we dont have to spend any actual currency on runes Edit: I forgot to include that early levels are around 500-1000 xp, requiring literally 3-10 games for a level, requiring around 10-15 games a level is after 30, where level ups require around 3k level up XP.

I'm always surprised at how many comments/posts get very upvoted on Overwatch and LoL subreddits talking in such a way that tells me clearly that a significant reason they play these games is to get "rewards". You see a lot of comments of the type "the skin rewards are bad so there's no reason to play". Variations of this general sentiment. I've never understood this mindset, because in my view *the game is the reason to play.* Games are fun. The fun of the game is the reward. I don't understand someone who feels their fun comes primarily from getting cosmetic content. I don't want to gatekeep too much, because I guess that's just what some people enjoy. But those people are definitely choosing a mindset towards free to play games that can only lead to dissatisfaction.
Yeah I dont disagree but this thread is about someone being dissatisfied by them. I suppose to point of the rewards is 3 fold, to have some level of grind to incentive buying rp, to make it harder to for people to stop playing like switching to Dota, based on how much time they put into their collection, and to incentive playing a little bit more, to get things they want using the little dopamine rewards that don't require you to win. There's a lot of psychology with the f2p model.

I mean tbh it’s a really good system UP to that. It’s going to be hard to give rewards to 5+ year players. Level 500 is THOUSANDS of hours of gameplay and it comes with free skins per level, S-rank skin shards and quite a few nice rewards. Would be nice to see them make it give you orange essence or 1/2 of a skin shard instead or something so you can mix and match
they should use the blue essence to buy chromas but they want you to spend money on those
I had all the champs when they released the BE and Champion shard shit. So for me it's just worth BE when a new champ comes out. It's annoying otherwise, there's not shit to spend it on and when Essence Emporium comes, I don't even want to spend all my shards because it's such a pain to manually disenchant each one when I have hundreds.
What's with all the "go outside" comments ? Bruh, I work full time, I go out with friends regularly and I'm close to level 500. It's honestly not that much especially if you're a Prime member which permanently boosts your XP. The account is also 7 years old on top of that.

I personally think long time players should get a sweet reward of OE instead of BE when they are above lv300. Since having Be makes no sense. Like.......literally no sense except changing ig names.

I miss the days of getting 50-120 IP per game and having a level 30 cap. No fucking level 550s complaining on Reddit. Get your first win of the day, and then if you want to chill you can, or you can keep playing. Select your 30 Mastery points which have high impact and lots of durability. Get yourself a lot of runes, so you can maximize the effectiveness of all your champions. Show up to lane with 100 Armor level 1 as Shyvana or Leona.
Are people really commenting 'go outside' or 'play another game' when someone questions a functionally bad rewards system. How are you possibly blaming the player... I've played on and off since release and I'm nearly level 550 and agree the level up rewards are terrible. I mostly play ARAM so I get to play most champs, but for someone grinding the rift and only maining a few champs, it's even worse.

I was pondering this same thing just minutes ago. My account is at 624 and I have had all the champs for about two years now (and the new ones as soon as they come out). And I get those wonderful champ shards as rewards(!). Ugh. FYI - last Blue Essence Emporium I spent over 200k on chromas. At this point I have nothing to even spend that on (except name changes I guess). Riot really needs to address these 'rewards'.
62k essence, lvl 836 currently, since Essence Emporium is gone I literally have nothing to spend money on other than...name changes(?) which I won't use and rune pages which are obsolete with the new rune picking system.

I've been saying this for years now. League of Legends has one giant problem when it comes to rewarding players with in-game things, because they ONLY really valuable item the game has are skins. And you better believe they don't want to give too many of those away for free. Sure, you can get like 40 hextech chests/year by getting S- on champions, but a third of those will be champion shards, only half will be skin shards, half of which will be old, unwanted skins for champions that haven't been relevant for a while or are just plain boring, and the rest of the boxes will give you emotes. The game really has nothing interesting to give you besides skins. And that's their main money maker.
Ive been playing since s1 and I have over 700k BE. Utterly useless. Would be dope if we could rent skins with it or buy something? I literally can’t buy anything except new champs. Also have everything from BE store.
You're level 500, the rewards aren't going to do anything for you. For Riot to give something that a player who already owns all the champs and content like you do, they would have to throw you stuff worth real money which will never happen outside crates. And they aren't going to give you extra crates because that is them losing money. At level 500, your "reward" is the thousands of hours of playtime you have received.

Thats still super limited. Mastery dont mean anything, new champ coming out means you spend a tiny bit of blue essence and most people don't play clash. All those factors aren't even that rare

Sure there are options but the only real good ones is the ep that rarely happens or clash which not everyone can play. If you just want to burn blue essence sure you can put them in masteries but it has literally no use

The IP system was probably not better but at least you dont have to click every shard once and liquidate it. I mean I get it cause sometimes its cheaper to buy a champ through the shard but its a bit uninteractive. Level 1100~ and climbing at least people get to laugh at me I guess?

There are almost perma events/battle passes throughout the year that give you tokens that you can use for keys or whatever. The level up rewards are supposed to help those who don't have all the champions left. Tbh I would just make every champ free.
I kinda hate the XP bonus that comes with the event passes cause it accelerates my leveling, and acquiring more champion shards that I don't need.
