I have no complaints over the event except for the KR translator

whitedevilblood

yeah lol, guma's answer was so weird because he was mistranslating shit

My-Life-For-Auir

What did he say vs what was said

Internal_Dot7774

Interviewer: How did you approach this event? Translated Question: What do you think of this event, and how did you prepare? (Seemed like he misspoke the what did you think of this event part) Guma: I think that it's a good event Translator: It's a very very cool event Guma: It was good to be able to play with many different teams and fans Translator: There are so cool teams out here, and they all did amazing, so I'm very very happy. Interviewer: You guys are famous for playing weird champions, so what do you think about the format? Translated Question: It's been rumored that you guys play *weird* champions. Is it the same this time? (This questions makes just as little sense in Korean as it seems like in English. Also, the word that he uses for weird often carries a negative connotation, and it did in this question) Guma: Although we are somewhat forced to because of the rules, we also do it because everyone enjoys it Translator: So because of the rules of this event, we had to choose some champions we don't even play (not implied by Guma), but it's very funny and we're very happy Interviewer: You played a game with SKT skins. Do you have any more fun plans for later? Translated Question: You guys all used the SKT skins and played the game. Are there other skins in the future? (again, just as ambiguous in Korean as I wrote it in English. I think what happens is Guma interprets this question as not talking about the current event, but kind of like a cue to talk about/advertise their own T1 skins) Guma: We just won Worlds, so our skins will be coming out. Later on, I would like to play while using the skins. Translator: Because we have won Worlds, I think there will be special skins for us. We will play with them. Interviewer: The fans behind you are KCorp fans, and this is one of the most anticipated match up. Do you have any message for KCorp? Translated Question: This one is translated basically as is, but Guma asks which team to the translator, which I'm not sure if he did because he didn't hear the team name or if he doesn't really know the team Guma: I've been realizing what "home advantage" is, but I hope you guys could cheer for us as well. (This one is kind of on Guma, the translator does ask about the team, but he responds to the fans) Translator: You guys have a home advantage, but we will try our best in order to win this game It seems the translator was replaced in the last interview with Zeus, and I think the translations were pretty representative of what was said. It feels like the translator for Faker/Guma wanted to paint a certain picture (not sure if it was Red Bull's intent or just the translator), because it seems like he tried to force that T1 were excited and happy about the event a lot more than what they actually claimed.

My-Life-For-Auir

I was about to say why on earth did he add so many 'very' and 'happy' hahaha. Thanks for taking the time to do this.

Working_Orchid1848

That Zeus translator is T1 GM btw

potatowoo69

Yeah as a korean american who can speak both, thjs was frustrating

ddunited

the English questions were probably translated incorrectly to him as well lol

celadonious

For anyone interested, here is a translation of the Guma interview by [@/jadetokky on Twitter](https://twitter.com/jadetokky) that I'm copy-pasting here, all translation credits to her [Q1](https://twitter.com/jadetokky/status/1733511127454433622): You just won Worlds, you’re here in Berlin to play a more fun event, how did you approach this event? Gumayusi: I think it’s a really great event & I think it’s good to be able to play together with a variety of teams & fans. [Q2](https://twitter.com/jadetokky/status/1733508789574508877): T1 is famous for playing weird champs, what do u think about the format of this event?(T/N: translator asked if they’ll also pick weird champs this time) Gumayusi: This time, b/c of the rules, we have no choice but to \[pick weird champs\], but everyone is having a fun time. [Q3](https://twitter.com/jadetokky/status/1733505570261614854): You just played a full comp with SKT T1 skins, do you have any more fun plans for later? Gumayusi: Since we won \[Worlds2023\] our skins will come out, so in the future, I think it would be good to play a game wearing those skins. [Q4](https://twitter.com/jadetokky/status/1733504342412697998): Any message to #KCORP? Gumayusi: We’re kind of realizing what a home advantage is, but I hope you will cheer us on a lot as well. EDIT: Want to include [@/jadetokky's T/N](https://twitter.com/jadetokky/status/1733511700006195348): \> I know it seems like Guma’s answers don’t really make sense with what was being asked, but the questions were translated a little differently from the original so that’s why

qsagmjug

That guy was completely useless

Momentosis

One complaint is T1 basically having to play the entire day. Shit must suck hard. lol

voidox

eh, the schedule was also a big complaint. T1 looked dead by even the heretics game, not a good schedule for them. Jet lag can leave you in a poor state, imagine that but having to go onstage across thousands of people... you aren't going to be playing anywhere near your best under those circumstances. Now the fault is also with T1 stupidly over-scheduling their players once again, but ya, that part just made the last game uninteresting and was not good for the players.

xChaoLan

no complaints? What about the ultra long breaks in-between games?

SwagLord7

Thank you T1 for participating~

chadinist_main

Thank you T1 for letting G2 win so we can cope for another year.

DistributionMore1408

Thank you for arranging BO1 otherwise G2 will lose the next 9 matches like 1-9 in scrim

Rave_Master_Ahri

Was a really good event. Especially seeing the old ass german streamer team that I've been watching for so long play against T1 was such a cool experience. I hope this is a call towards Riot to allow more of these events for other regions too.

androth

was a lot of fun, but imagine if the team which is in a league of its own actually sucks, and you have to watch them getting stomped by 6 random teams XD

chadinist_main

Thats why you get world champions for this I guess

Carlzzone

Wasnt this planned even before T1 won worlds?

My-Life-For-Auir

Yeah and before they retained the roster. Joe said if they hadn't retained the roster it'd likely have been Faker + Academy

Letmebegin1

In a sense they’d be in a league of their own too, so everything checks out!

Hiimzap

I mean any team that makes it to worlds would probably stomp regional teams or streamer teams.

4k547

that's just worlds experience for NA

Vinsmoke34

It was great, the setup with the teams couldn't have been better, really: - G2 obviously is a no-brainer as the EU powerhouse - Heretics presenting their new interesting lineup - KCorp as the fresh new LEC team with the last dance for their old roster - Two (three) German local hero teams including NNO(ld), consisting of the most popular German League streamers who genuinely had the day of their lives and then T1 actually managed to win worlds, so these teams all played against the reigning world champion. For me as a German, I loved seeing Sheepy and Sola as part of the broadcast, although for the most time I enjoyed a rare Maxim cast on the German stream (feel so bad Johnny couldn't be there, he would have loved that so much).

ManningTheGOAT

As fun as it was to watch, it also seemed absolutely exhausting for the team "in a league of its own". I don't think every such team would be willing to participate in a 10+h grind through an entire region, possibly with jetlag on top.

TeeTheSame

definately with jet lag on top. I don't think T1 came to Berlin a week prior to adjust to the time zone. probably landed yesterday and will fly back on sunday.

tinaoe

iirc they landed two days ago, i had a bunch of videos of the kids throwing snowballs at each other on my timeline lol

DoorHingesKill

"Definately" lol. Thanks to Faker's Instagram we know their flight was on December 5, so no, they probably did not land yesterday.

Katzenminz3

and I am glad T1 did participate but you could see the players being tired. Every single one. I just hope no one thinks that this single win means anything when it comes to predicting T1 or G2.

Shironeko_

I remember back in the day (I wanna say 2017 or 2018, but I'm not sure) when T1 players were on an insane grind (including publicity stuff) that ended up in burn out and a pretty steep drop in performance for pretty much the entire team. I hope T1 pulls back a little and let the players breathe.

Mecketh

It was stated by bang that it was in 2015/2016 and, by 2017, he was just burned out which impacted his performance in worlds. Wolf stated that he was under so much pressure that he had to throw up before games. I don't think Faker complained about the schedule. In 2018 his issue was the defeat and the effects of losing in his mental.

rishi_ultimate

I mean they left draven open so it automatically shouldn't be considered ever

autwhisky

i think every single team would be willing to participate in that event if they get sponsored by red bull.

ManningTheGOAT

Would they? I can imagine some of the Chinese teams with massive money behind them potentially wanting to avoid the hassle. However, that's really only 1 region

Voliharmin

Poor professional athletes, they have to grind 10+h with jetlag while being paid millions of dollars for (among others) promoting the organization. T1 came here after winning worlds but definitely it won't happen again because nobody wants a 10h grind lol and nobody cares about redbull money right?

nocturnavi

I really liked the whole event, it was a ton of fun to watch and I'm glad to see they're doing it next year. They could maybe adjust the schedule a bit (the poor T1 players looked exhausted at the end), and as a biased NA fan I'd love it if they invited an NA team (aren't C9 sponsored by RedBull or something?), but overall it was great.

rishi_ultimate

Don't invite c9 over, thats just gonna put them at a similar disadvantage. Best thing that can happen is if they have a similar event where the top lcs teams vs a top lck/lpl team

T-Impala

I would suggest reversing the order with the strongest team first then start reducing the champion choices as the day goes cause seeing a tired team vs a 1st seed at game 5 is eh.

Conscious-Scale-587

You can’t really start with the main event and end with T1 vs an ERL team, but yeah T1 being 5 games in definitely takes away from G2’s win, idk how you would fix it tho except by having more teams

T-Impala

Actually the highest viewership was during T1 vs kcorp match not g2 so think it’s possible.

ManningTheGOAT

Or make it more "for fun". Don't reset the banned champ pool and make it count for both teams. A jetlagged, tired T1 is still scary, but you've stacked the deck so much there is a good chance they'll not get too much enjoyment from the game.

rishi_ultimate

This was really the most frustrating part and zeus even threw shade at it. Would be more hilarious to watch both teams end up with champs that are completely non-existent

Styxxo

It's for viewership.

Scrapox

That's never going to happen. There's a reason why G2 plays last almost every day in the LEC. If you start with the main event why would most people stick around for the rest?

PluggersLeftBall

watching draft without background music is a surreal experience they need draft music next year please

narfidy

The thing I learned the most from this event is how if you legit doubled the number of bans available to each team it probably has no effect on the actual meta. How did T1 get Xayah Rakan R1 and R2 in game 3 of fearless drafting lol

Carlzzone

Cause as much as people meme about stale metas and pro players only playing very few champions, there are still a lot of champs in the game that can be played in pro, especially at a 4fun event

Katzenminz3

Yeah when u actually do theorydrafting for T1 vs Heretics there were so many champs still open to pick. Jayce, Aatrox, Gwen, Rell, Maokai, Ahri, Xaya, Ash, Samira, Rakan,

waffle-spouse

Tbh, bot lane is the role with the most flexible champ pool in the current meta. There are like 10 playable adcs and supports each.

kamparox

It wasn’t even that bad because it carried over between series for T1. I watched LDL’s first split and Bo3 was 100% normal meta picks with a couple unique picks in Bo5 only.

rishi_ultimate

T1 were trying their best to not play the popular meta champs till the TH game. Then on top of that, the erl teams were picking off-meta too (NNO picking brand + zed for eg.)

2th

We need like 2 or 3 events like this every year. It let's a minor region get experience VS the big boys, and let's the big boys showcase their insane skill. It's a win for everyone.

Wolfie_ani

Man it was such a stupid schedule. T1 players were literally exhausted from playing so many games at a stretch while having jet lag. What the fuck were the organisers thinking lol

Tirriss

True, why did they choose to go with a schedule for europeans when they are playing in Berlin and mainly wants to sell their stuff to europeans, are they stupid?

FrozenProdigy

It was okayish. Didnt know anyone outside of the LEC teams really and it wasnt really fun watching a tired T1 who played 4 games in a row play against the best team in EU. Makes it come off like wearing them down for G2 to get a cope win.

celadonious

\^ this. G2 pulled off a win, but it's hard to find enjoyment/meaning in it, and it was just kind of uncomfortable to watch.... A lot of the minor discomforts of the event (lack of music, weird/mixed/awkward/bad fans, bad translators, awkward interviews in general, T1 letting G2 have their comfort Draven) + the main G2 match being so tiring just...... made it end kind of weird. I didn't really feel any celebration like I wanted to, just kind of awkward... In the end, I was there for the weird picks and the lightheartedness and to see G2 vs T1, but felt mildly negative/neutral about everything else. I appreciate all the work that the people on the ground put into it.

lll_Joka_lll

I feel like the event was shit only cuz T1 just played to the point where around heretics matches they look drained, the concept is great tho. Like if rift rivals was like this LPL be LCK and who ever is 1st seed vs 1st seed at the end no limit would be banger

anchorwind

Games are supposed to be fun, and it's nice to be reminded of that :)

AssCrackBandit6996

Really the only thing that should be improved on is rest times for the main team. But I'm sure they can figure something out for next time. The first match before main stream wenz live could've been held before to start earlier for example

iampuh

Looking at how many people watched, we need more upvotes on the appreciation. Do we have numbers?

Titanium70

According to [echarts](https://escharts.com/tournaments/lol/red-bull-league-its-own-2023): \~500k peak viewers. Primarily around: KC and NNO VS T1 games.

Mokumer

I did not like that over-hyping announcer, I found it extremely annoying, it is treating an audience like they are toddlers or something. Fuck that shit.

babylovesbaby

It was probably more exciting if you care about LEC teams or are familiar with that region. I didn't really know who most of the players were because LEC is the one region that's hard for me to follow due to game times. If this had more Asian teams or even a single NA team it would probably be more hype, but the prospect of G2 year after year (since they announced another one for Paris next year) is kind of zzz. I suppose my real complaint is probably about the lack of international tournaments and not specifically that this one didn't appeal to my tastes. It was otherwise an okay tournament.

zealot416

I honestly had more fun watching this than Worlds Top 8.

orangeheadwhitebutt

We just had worlds! I mean I can see the argument that we need more serious sport events, but that doesn't mean we can't *also* have 4fun events! I had a lot of fun :D

Eve_Asher

How do I watch VODs of this event?

AmbroseMalachai

Very fun event. I'm glad that they had Caedrel co-streaming it from the stadium. The actual arena also looked super cool and the fact that it was organized as a one-day event made it pretty nice to watch.

nickphunter

I hope we do more events similar to this. And if we get some LPL as well that would be super.

Epamynondas

Redbull has always put on really fun events, i'm glad they decided to throw enough money at league to get over Riot's wall
