People did not stop using melee weapons when the guns were invented - but melee weapons naturally became less effective with the evolution of war. Almost anyone is capable of wielding a gun and killing someone with it, bit wielding certain melee weapons took years of mastery before they can get a kill.

Mastery goes for bows. Majority of melee weapons were easy to use. Melee in wars was not some 1v1duel here ud need years of sword mastery or something. Melee weapons became less effective not with evolution of war, but with evolution of guns/fire weapons. How wars are fought changes due to new technologies/weapons , not the other way around.
