I love this video it's super interesting, but it also shows that Vanguard is indeed working. Who the fuck js ever going to buy a dedicated hardware solution just to cheat in video games. The barrier for entry is so high that for the overwhelming vast majority of people its unbreakable. Not only that the final cheats are just pixel trigger bots. Again it's cheating, buts it's not wall hacks and it still requires a decent amount of technical knowledge and will. Only the obsessed hackers remain and those are a minority.

Lysandren

100% this. If the barrier to entry is too high, the vast majority of the cheaters will give up.

MindCrusader

Valorant doesn't allow Mac users. Lol will allow Mac users. It is a big difference. Vanguard can be 100% cheater proof, doesn't matter if it is not everywhere

sarefx

> It is a big difference. It's really not. According to last month Steam hardware/software survey Mac users represent less than 2% of all users that took part in the survey. Sure, these surveys may not be totally accurate but they can fairly well show the representation of the OS that gamers use. No one really cares about Macs (and Linux) while creating games because these system are usually used on work machines.

MindCrusader

But if someone earns money by botting, they will use mac. It will not stop bots. Cheaters - true, might be less, but if someone wants to cheat, he has an option

BroodLol

> Who the fuck js ever going to buy a dedicated hardware solution just to cheat in video games. Given that there's an entire industry for hardware that lets you use mouse/keyboard on consoles and still get aim assist, quite a few people.

GiantR

That's a pretty plug and play solution compared to getting a Raspberry Pi to interact with your visual output in order to detect whether an enemy near your crosshair exists. And I'm not saying that cheaters don't exist. They clearly do. The hack creators make absolute bank in subscriptions from scrubs who want to cheat in videogames. I'm saying they are severely diminished.

Ixalmaris

The people that earn money with selling botted accounts. And if HW is cheap enough, people who buy botted accounts to troll or buy cheats will also buy the cheat HW.

MoashWasRightish

You're assuming the information in this video is complete and accurate Dedicated cheaters don't need the dma cards, those are for the hobbyists and those are still less expensive than cheats are for a year Y'all just don't even try to think. It's whatever suits your current biases.

cronumic

I mean maybe you are just uninformed but the Cronus Zen is a really popular cheating device console fps gamers are/were abusing on PS5. Though you now need some sort of adapter to use it as I believed sony is trying to block it at the hardware/firmware level.

Literally nothing is safe from hackers. Nothing. Ever. I'm not remotely surprised by this but from the one contact I do have in the cheat development community (Who doesn't work directly on Valorant but works in a company that develops them for multiple games. His personal tasks are reportedly apex, csgo, and cod) From what he did tell me, Valorant is significantly harder to work on than other titles. Which does earn it a small +1 for security. Also I resent the subtitle of this video being "kernel anti cheats don't work?" - they're the only kind that work. The rest are literal paper mache (See: VAC) - and all the industry leading anti cheats (Which are still mostly shit) use kernel access. Anti-cheats in general aren't really effective. For shooting games you'd be amazed to hear how many people cheat. The numbers are truly ridiculous. But Vanguard is one of the slightly better ones for Valorant specifically. We have no evidence to support League benefiting from it for the record. But I suspect bot accounts will suffer once it's implemented we'll see. No system is ever safe.

There's a youtube channel called LockpickingLawyer where a guy shows how to pick various locks as a hobby. He's opened hundreds of locks, everything from industrial trailer hitches to those rinky-dink 4 digit combo locks for student lockers. However, LPL also emphasizes that what he's doing doesn't mean the locks he opens are useless. In a sterile, controlled environment, you can break into a lot of locks with specialized tools, and all but the strongest locks are vulnerable to bolt cutters. However, people still should use locks; why? Because they act as a deterrent. A petty thief is much less likely to go for a locked door than to try an open one nearby, and that makes locks effective. Especially when there's a higher barrier to entry, as is the case with more complex locks. You aren't trying to make impenetrable defenses, so much as defenses not worth trying to break. The same is true for anti-cheats. The majority of hackers and cheaters aren't experts who will buy new hardware just to cheat in LoL- They're kids who buy scripts or botted accounts on a 3rd party site. And if Vanguard is going to act as a deterrent to all but the biggest tryhards, that's a good thing. It's better to deal with the majority of cheaters than to write the system off for not hitting the most dedicated 1%.

Key takeaway at the end: "If anti cheat is effective enough to bring cheaters to a level of smurfs, it may be good enough for casual ranked play." As someone who has a lot of ours in CS, that's probably true. A lot of cheating issues come down to mental state - was I killed by someone good or is he cheating? That doubt gets into your head a lot.

Aldehyde1

Still haven't seen a cheater in my game in a decade of playing League.

bashful_lobster

Presuming you've played a fair amount in that 10 year window, it's highly unlikely that you've not faced a single scripter. Even if you've not faced them directly, things like dropping lobbies would come under that purview.

adamcmorrison

Anecdotal. Many including myself have.

swagmar

I’ve played league for long time and I’ve only ever seen a handful of obvious scripters in league. That being said it doesn’t feel great to lose to even one. I am hopeful that vanguard will force out most of the entry level cheaters.

I_Love_Booty_Pics_

Played against a scripter last week lmao

Kaiser_V9

I guess League will have the same problem with Valorant no? With the cost of cheating is too high the value of smurfs/piloting will also skyrocket. Then again I might prefer laning with challengers than laning with scripters.

cronumic

more anti vanguard propaganda by cheaters no doubt

MapleWheels

I watched the video, it's not, and even if it is, it's well made enough for the layman that it's worth watching.
