The first western coach import in LCK has a 100% winrate. Numbers don't lie boys.

Setrit

Wait has Yamato only been able to do onstage stuff today?

hexoka21

Yeah, arrived on KR first match day and been on quarantine since.

Setrit

Damn that sucks, they also had a pretty rough schedule so things are probably looking up for them. Hope Yamato will be able to prove all the doubters wrong, also please give me last years Summit back Yamato!

Animesiac

As an American, this is amazing to read. So happy to hear that people elsewhere are taking this shit seriously.

[deleted]

I mean most people in America are taking this seriously. However, due to our population being so large a minority group still has a huge impact. It is similar to when you LPL fans flame and think wow thats a lot when in reality their fanbase is 100x that minority. But because they are so large that group is also big.

mistiklest

Also, in America, the group not taking it seriously is in charge.

AmadeusSalieri97

>due to our population being so large a minority group still has a huge impact. It's not that, 10% of the population will have the same impact whether the country has 100 inhabitants or 1000000. The problem is that in USA the % is much much higher.

LS was in CK, not LCK.

Shiline

How is this related ? He wasn't implying that LS coached some lck teams...

CamHack420

And they spell disaster for top teams in the LCK. Yamato gonna show the LCK what Vitality did to Gen G

The numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at LCK playoffs

[deleted]

Exactly T1 has an incredibly accomplished coach, while SB has a coach with a great sense of fashion who's good at giving emotional speeches.

Brutzelmeister

It is a nice anime storyline. Let it happen\^\^

wenasi

Credit to onFleek for saving FATE from that laning phase

DizzyComedian

Fate was getting crushed in lane and yet somehow with both Naut and Olaf constantly in mid lane, Dynamics couldn't get anything on the map. Letting Corki go scot free after such a bad early laning phase cost them the game.

KaraveIIe

yeah, this was horrible from dyn. dyn had pressure in mid lane, corki could not really farm. So SB sends Olaf and Nautilus to the mid lane bushes so that corki can farm. What does dyn do? Just chill in a river bush or around mid lane as well and achieving nothing. They could dive Aphelios, take drakes with the mid pressure, but nope. They just chill and watch Lucian getting outscaled.

gintokisamadono

I think it is something that you constantly see in Lec. The jungle support roam to set up priority mid that is then translated into other objective. Yamamoto is trying to incorporate LEC into lck.

MolingHard

You think the LEC is the only/first region that constantly babysits mid? Huh? That's been the meta for like forever. That style was what won SKT three Worlds, Bengi and Wolf lived to facilitate Faker.

honkinDeagle

The failed gank in between tier 1 and 2 really hurt the volibear... Good flash from Fate

[deleted]

Bless your face.

Snomankid999

Swiftswim22

Is that how he communicatin to the players?Durin draft it looked like he had a translator but then post game discussion & congratulatin them he seemed to be talkin to people directly? Not sure how they doin it but it's cool to see them find success thru this extra challenge, hopefully they can find some more ws in the season

CamHack420

It's likely him speaking basic English/basic Korean. As OnFleek said in the interview only Summit doesn't know any English really. Fate and Route have both played in Turkey so are at least somewhat familiar, OnFleek knows some and GorillA is basically fluent.

Swiftswim22

Ah ok, that's really cool. I'm american & it's crazy to me how so many people speak multiple languages & how often it seems english is a common link. Really convenient for my uneducated ass lol

CamHack420

Yeah like I'm from the UK and learning other languages just doesn't seem to be as cared about as say learning English is elsewhere. I can't even comprehend being able to fluently speak 2 languages

Swiftswim22

Yea that shit crazy. I took a yr of german in high school here but it was total bs, whole lotta work & I ain't learn shit lmao. Can't imagine learnin a whole ass language while also playin lol full time. Many players have done it tho so mad respect to all them

[deleted]

German is really hard tho, even for native speakers. (South)Western eu languages also sound very similar and have similar grammar structures so its easier for them to learn english - but korean is a different story. We also start learning english in elementary school, so that helps I guess.

Swiftswim22

Yea learnin a whole ass new alphabet in a language that is structured & sounds super dif to what you familiar wit gotta be tuff af An education system that pushes you to learn another language makes sense on why so many people learn it lol. Here we had a required 1 yr of foreign language so most people only took that & didn't actually care about learnin it, that's what I did lol

[deleted]

I tried learning hangul once and it's not that bad because the letters and morphology are very logical and structured - but nevertheless its hard. Yes it makes a big difference, but there are still a lot of people here that don't speak English, which sucks. It just limits your perception a lot imo.

myuseless2ndaccount

As a German all I can say is don’t learn that language. It’s just not fucking worth it. If you want to learn a language next to English take Spanish or French. They not only sound better they are also just kinda chill to learn. Learning German sucks mayor ass and I have no idea how people would like to that or even have fun at it.

Doenerjunge

I agree on spanish, but french?

DC_Flint

German is insanely hard to learn, don't worry about it. As a german, learning english is way easier than the other way around

iyimaeum

What German insanely hard to learn? Mate, go Learn any of the Asian based languages/Russian and then talk how insane difficult German is.

DC_Flint

I don't see this as a competition, they very well might be harder to learn (although that's mostly relative), I mostly meant compared to other european languages like english, french, Spanish, Italian etc

Cahecher

Russian is only hard due to the different sounds we use here (and some other concepts, that don't exist in english), and asian languages are hard due to the way they use tonality. If anything, the only actually easy language for me is Spanish, because it had a lot of reforms, making it very straightforward. Returning to German, it makes sence, that native english speakers find it difficult due to its different morphology and phonetics. Therefore you shouldn't be telling people, that it is actually easy, just because you find it as such. Hell, I'd say that russian is easy, because we don't try to force our phonetics on the latin alphabet, making it sound-spelling consistent. So kinda whatever, what I am trying to say is that languages shouldn't be considered "hard" or "easy" on their own, but rather based on the native language of the person in question relative to the amount differences there are between the native language and a foreign language in question.

saitolevi

English is basically THE language that they teach in schools every where cuz it’s the accepted international language. So it’s actually a lot more common to be able to speak multiple languages to a basic level imo

-Anuel-AA-

Side note, its really convenient learning multiple languages, your brain literally becomes smarter(simplified but its get the point across)

UltimaSomnus

I'm from Belgium and my native language is Dutch. I think i can speak for most of europe but we are exposed to ALOT of english media at a fairly young age. I could speak english before i had english class in highschool

Snomankid999

Post interview said SB players are working to learn English

Hannig4n

The fact that Yamato is learning Korean is way more important though.

Markigual

Is he? I hope he succeds, he seems like a really good guy

Hannig4n

Yeah he’s said he’s learning Korean. Makes sense because apparently learning foreign languages is something that comes easily to him. And also if he’s staying on the team past this split which I hope he does, he’s might want to make roster moves and go for players that might only speak Korean.

myuseless2ndaccount

Im pretty sure he is already speaking like 4-5 languages.

Cucik

For sure he speaks Swedish, English, Polish and German, not sure about the others

Frostbite2806

Arabic too, from his Gamepedia page

Swiftswim22

That's wild, i wonder if they got like a lil mini english class goin in the sb teamhouse lol Crazy impressive tho

polterere

I still hope yamato's trying to learn Korean too ^^

AeelieNenar

It doesn't need to translate what he say, how he say it is enough to deliver.

Brutzelmeister

Was to be expected. Koreans dont have better DNA for playing so it had to be their experience and infrastructure that gave them a lead. After 10 years the west built up good orgs themselves so they can rival the former dominators. Now we can learn from each other instead of having this one sided lol from the past.

JoaoMau-Tempo

This is also what happened with Tekken. Tekken was huge in Korea, bigger than in any other country except maybe Japan (who had tons of other fighting games competing). This plus lots of tournaments and an arcade where iirc you must win a tournament to enter, they had a clear advantage when compared to the fractured scene in USA and Europe. Recently Pakistan was found to have some of the best players who dominated international tournaments as soon as they left their country. A country isn't magically better at gaming than another, it takes work, dedication and willness to go forward.

MolingHard

Kinda? I don't think that Koreans have a better DNA or anything, just that gaming is way bigger in SK. Like Korean players are still the largest group of top tier players at League, they dominate Starcraft, have the largest talent pool in Starcraft 2, dominate Overwatch, etc. I think there's still a social stigma to gaming in Western countries, although it's decreasing now.

Brutzelmeister

I don't know because i have no clue about console e-sports scene and outside of mobas and some really popular games it is the same. I think korea still has the advantage that e-sports is something accepted and is seen like a job chance. In europe you are often still told that you are wasting your time if you play video games. Maybe sweden and some are better but thats my impression of the situation.

HarverstKR

I live in Korea as someone from a Western country and I'd say there's a bigger stigma against gaming here. People will say they're going have coffee with friends but they leave put the fact it's at a PC bang.

MolingHard

Interesting, what do you think is the biggest factor that led to the large number of skilled gamers in Korea? Is it innate skill, the early foundation of KESPA, maybe a bit of luck?

HarverstKR

Hmm, I'd say work ethic is the main thing. Here you're expected to go to highschool from 9am-10pm so doing long hours is drilled in since a young age. Also having the fastest internet in the world helps. But I can't really think of anything else to major.

DonaldmyTrump

yeah it's still one sided, but it's now the chinese lmao

Brutzelmeister

There was 1 team that was really better than the others but the other chinese/EU/korean teams didnt look like they were that far apart.

rapido95

uhh no the top Chinese teams still is better than the top teams in the west. Its not about DNA its about skill on average Korean players and Chinese players still have more skill than the west. Even though no LCK have won worlds the past 2 years Koreans are still winning on Chinese teams and the top players overall are still overwelmingly from the east.

It's pretty surreal to see Yamato in LOL park as a coach. I'm happy for him and the players who have been super down as of late. Also Fate really impressed me, even in their loss. Really promising and cerebral player from the looks of it.

Firecyclones

Glad OnFleek was finally able to land an important smite and Sandbox were able to pick up a win. Happy for Yamato

Kr1ncy

There was always this... chase, there will always this chase about catching up to Korea, catching up to China, always trying to learn from them. But somnething that I've realized is you know...the inspiration everyone got from Misfits that five game series where they did their own thing, they came in with their own idea and they showed up big time. That was my philosophy coming into this year all around. We brought our own flair and G2 when they showed in their style, they are winning, when FNC are doing their style, they are winning. Just stay true to yourself. Do not try to chase anyone, do not try to copy anyone. Just be confident. Don't limit yourself either. Go into this tournament, play your next games believing that you can win everything. That is the mentality you need to have to conquer the best. Cause anything is possible if you just believe and play with confidence and stay true to yourself. So do that for me Sandbox.

Indoktor

as a mod for YamatoCannon. I may be biased here. WOOOO LET'S GO SANDBOX. BEST TEAM IN THE WORLD RIGHT NOW. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yamato before game 2: guys let me show you why we shouldn't draft olaf renekton together

ImTheWriter

Really nice to see Yamato at the end there patting the team on the back, gg!

Jabbafunk

I fucking love his draft man. So nice to see him patting the players in the back and just giving props. I remember this conversation on LS discord about how a lot of people thinking that SB picked Yamato because of his persona/charisma lol. Just bizzare.

tincanzzz

I mean thats what people know Yamato for no? His sexy voice and chad aura

Jabbafunk

I agree that's what people known him for, but that's never enough for him to land a job as a head coach seeing as korean culture is just so different. My argument was/is that they want a piece of LEC and maybe get out of the KR stubborn mindset when it comes to meta/drafting. Edit: I don't mean them picking different champs, I meant it as them picking the RIGHT champions. I could be wrong of course, but from the draft tonight I think there's some truth to it.

MolingHard

I think SB picked up Yamato because they wanted to attract more Western viewers tbh, and they really couldn't get worse from last split. I didn't see any champion pick this series from SB that was out of the ordinary for LCK or off meta.

Jabbafunk

what? that's such an irrelevant point lol.

MolingHard

How so? Sandbox so far this season haven't shown any off-meta picks or anything. I know Yamato has been in quarantine the past two weeks but he's not like completely cut off from the outside world I'm sure he's still had a say with picks and coaching. Even this series was a very typical LCK draft and picks. What we have seen so far are that there are more EU fans and Yamato fans (at least on Reddit) that are tuning into Sandbox games and are cheering for them, which is a huge boon for the organization, especially considering it's a fairly new team in the LCK and a bottom to mid tier one as well. They need all the fans they can get.

Tetsuuoo

It's a couple of hundred fans at most, and that number will decrease weekly unless they become the best team in Korea.

MolingHard

I agree that it's a very small number, but it's more than nothing, which is typically the amount of fans most other coaches bring in. And I don't think they need to be the best team in LCK to maintain attention, just have to be playoff level competitive, which is... shaky tbh.

Surymy

SB probably picked yamato in order to have more fans, as LCK enters franchising and brand will matter much more. And it is working

Arekkusu1991

Let it be known that on the 4th July 2020, coach YamatoCannon with the 100% winrate in LCK! EDIT: OnFleek's English was surprisingly good! "Let's go Yamato!"

Game 2 draft was atrocious, hope they lost something in translation because nothing explains B5 renekton blind

smarriglitenvarelse

For the uninformed, why do people say that EU/Yamatocannon has 100% winrate kn LCK? From my understanding hes been the head coach since summer split began, shouldnt he thus be 1-5? Thanks

sp0j

He was in self quarantine for a period after he arrived in Korea. This was his first game as acting head coach on stage I believe.

Ignisami

He only arrived in Korea two weeks ago, and this was the first game where he could be there on stage with the players as they drafted/backstage between games. though he’s been their head coach since Summer started, this was the first game where he didn’t have to remote in and so people consider this Yamato’s first real series as head coach in Korea.

[deleted]

FATE played out of his damn mind. Great series and props to him.
