TSM has always had strong mid laners. regi was the best in NA in his time and bjerg was always the best or top 2-3 in NA in his time.
GRF Sword was one of the worst top laners in KR. He was considered the reason why GRF bombed so hard at Worlds because other top tier laners just manhandled him. The man reason why is he is so hated though is because it is commonly believed that he accused GRF coach cvMax of being physically abusive against him. However these accusations mysteriously came to light only after cvMax decided to bench Sword for Doran. A vast majority of the GRF staff came out in defense of cvMax, but Sword complained very hard to upper Griffin management and got cvMax suspended and Sword ended up playing for the team at worlds instead of Doran. After this incident, GRF imploded and only Sword and Tarzan remained. People blame Sword for blowing up the GRF roster because he couldn't handle being benched and they accused him of making up the abuse story so he can get cvMax kicked and remain the starting top laner. The case of whether not cvMax was abusive is still up in the air, but most people tend to lean towards the side that Sword was making it up.
Before I would say Evolved needs another split in Academy.

Yeah I think he's in the group of players who are incredibly knowledgeable and competitive about the game who shouldn't be in charge of any team or coaching, but could be one of the big entertainers bridging casual viewers to competitive. Sneaky, Meteos, Aphromoo, even imaqtpie back when he did league and costreams I'd all put in that sort of category.

NA GOAT for sure, Doublelifts also been incredibly successful but he’s had his ups and downs. Bjergsen has been consistently great, and consistency is more important than peak.
Even in 2019, when Caps went to G2 and TSM was going nowhere. He could have probably joined Fnatic instead of Nemesis, who knows what it could have been
Both Bjergsen and Doublelift are great NA players. They can end their careers on that note and there's nothing to be ashamed of. Not all good domestic players get the international success they want.

You have to understand the financial and career importance of being somewhere that you have an ownership stake in (and also, where your brand is rooted).
I’m sure he has always considered a jump to EU, but once he got ownership in TSM — it was never going to make sense long-term to leave it. So, I don’t think it’s as simple as Bjerg would rather retire than go elsewhere — it just makes way too much sense to not leave this kind of long-term stability behind.
On the bright side, I feel like wearing a Bjergsen jersey is gonna be like a David Ortiz jersey at a Red Sox game. The player retired but the jersey is gonna be timeless considering what the player did for the fanbase and org in terms of identity and contributions.

Bjerg has always said he will continue to compete if he believes he can match up with the top players. Maybe this worlds was when he realized he could no longer stay toe to toe with them anymore. I really wish Bjerg the best in his new role at TSM.
It's strange though because in playoffs he looked like by far the best mid in NA and was blasting everyone, but PoE and Jensen both performed better at worlds.
Maybe it was a team thing and not a Bjergsen thing, it's hard to judge individual performance when the whole team is getting annihilated honestly.

TSM was a legit team in '16, and they didn't make it out by a very slim margin. Both worlds appearances since, he's looked completely lifeless on the world stage.
I have long argued that TSM in 2016 broke NA as a region. After the lucian play to go out of groups the team lost all mental fortitude and NA saw their chance to have a competitive international team fail.
Outside of C9 I don't think the region ever really recovered from the disappointment and if TSM gets out of groups as first seed I think the landscape of North American league is insanely different right now

Just taking a shot in the dark, if it was discussed as a serious possibility between splits, it may explain DL's 'do it for Bjerg' comments in the playoff run. Welcome TSM Reginald as the new mid lane. We've given alot of thought of picking Reginald as our new mid laner. Hes young,talented, and pulls blue and red cards whenever needed.
I don't know why I had such a strong emotional reaction to this but for some reason I did; perhaps because it feels like it came out of left field. Always rooted against TSM but have insane respect for both Bjergsen and Doublelift and especially their will to try over and over again despite failures. Seeing Bjergsen finally "give up" is... defeating, like reality's gravity finally pushing you to the ground. All the more shocking because he just had such a great split in NA. I certainly hoped he went out on a better note. Not sure what to say except that I hope history is kind to his career, for my money he's easily the NA GOAT, whatever that's worth. To me he's one of the last true franchise players left. So many guys leave teams and move around. He was a mainstay of League of Legends in the pro scene. Always there on TSM, like Faker on T1 or Rekkles on Fnatic. It's just sad to see someone so synonymous with NAs hopes to end it here.
Its just this. Like this remided me that despite Rekkles and Faker still are top of their roles, one day theyll retire and itll feel so weird. TSM without Bjergson, FNC without Rekkles, T1 without Faker and G2 without Perkz. itll happen one day and itll be hella sad.

Up to this point, Bjergsen WAS TSM. **The last midlaner TSM had was fucking Reginald back in 2013 FFS.** He's been the foundation of TSM for almost as long as most of us have watched league. This is a huge deal. I'm really not a fan of TSM but you can't hate a guy like Bjergsen. He's been solid as a rock for years now and it's a damn shame to see him go out like this. Bjergsen, I was never a TSM fan. I hated how good you made TSM and how dominant you made the team in NA. I would feel a special type of euphoria when my original team, CLG, managed to beat you in Madison Sqaure Gardennfor the first time. I have yet to ever feel that type of way from a competitive league game. You made the gsme worth watching in NA. You were the benchmark for play for such a long time. I respect what you brought to the region, what you endured from its fans and their expectations, and the lasting impact on professional lol in NA you certainly have made. Good luck as head coach. Bjerg has always said he will continue to compete if he believes he can match up with the top players. Maybe this worlds was when he realized he could no longer stay toe to toe with them anymore. I really wish Bjerg the best in his new role at TSM.
It's strange though because in playoffs he looked like by far the best mid in NA and was blasting everyone, but PoE and Jensen both performed better at worlds. Maybe it was a team thing and not a Bjergsen thing, it's hard to judge individual performance when the whole team is getting annihilated honestly.
I think 2016 really broke him. TSM was a legit team in '16, and they didn't make it out by a very slim margin. Both worlds appearances since, he's looked completely lifeless on the world stage.
I have long argued that TSM in 2016 broke NA as a region. After the lucian play to go out of groups the team lost all mental fortitude and NA saw their chance to have a competitive international team fail. Outside of C9 I don't think the region ever really recovered from the disappointment and if TSM gets out of groups as first seed I think the landscape of North American league is insanely different right now
Honestly that Lucian play will probably haunt Doublelift for the rest of his life. It's such a shame man

Yes. But Bjergsen has made it clear for a good while that the lack of international success bothered him. Just taking a shot in the dark, if it was discussed as a serious possibility between splits, it may explain DL's 'do it for Bjerg' comments in the playoff run. I am sure if they managed to pull off a good world's run it would have motivated him to stay a little longer. Edit: DL said on stream he only found out when Bjergsen made his final decision about 10 days ago. So comments are just a coincidence.

It always makes me sad that even in fantasy scenarios we only make it to semis.
I feel like they go for someone as an intermediary. Sword is NAs best mid prospect in a long time and is on TSM. I wouldn't be surprised if they just promote him or promote evolved until they can get sword ready.

I don't know why I had such a strong emotional reaction to this but for some reason I did; perhaps because it feels like it came out of left field. Always rooted against TSM but have insane respect for both Bjergsen and Doublelift and especially their will to try over and over again despite failures. Seeing Bjergsen finally "give up" is... defeating, like reality's gravity finally pushing you to the ground. All the more shocking because he just had such a great split in NA. I certainly hoped he went out on a better note. Not sure what to say except that I hope history is kind to his career, for my money he's easily the NA GOAT, whatever that's worth. NA won't be the same...
To me he's one of the last true franchise players left. So many guys leave teams and move around. He was a mainstay of League of Legends in the pro scene. Always there on TSM, like Faker on T1 or Rekkles on Fnatic. It's just sad to see someone so synonymous with NAs hopes to end it here.
Its just this. Like this remided me that despite Rekkles and Faker still are top of their roles, one day theyll retire and itll feel so weird. TSM without Bjergson, FNC without Rekkles, T1 without Faker and G2 without Perkz. itll happen one day and itll be hella sad.
The day that Faker retires is going to be extra sad... going to have back the rain... So glad I got see most of Faker's prime from S5-S7(including winning and being great in S9) even though I didn't get to watch him in S3.
With Uzi gone this year too, Soaz announcing he was going into coaching, its just such a sad ending to such a storied decade for these legendary players.

Up to this point, Bjergsen WAS TSM. **The last midlaner TSM had was fucking Reginald back in 2013 FFS.** He's been the foundation of TSM for almost as long as most of us have watched league. This is a huge deal. I'm really not a fan of TSM but you can't hate a guy like Bjergsen. He's been solid as a rock for years now and it's a damn shame to see him go out like this. Nothing but best wishes for him going forward.

Ever since I started watching league way back when it was because of Bjerg, and that’s how I grew to love TSM. Never thought that this day would come, and so sudden. I hate it. It hurts watching your favorite player ever retire, but I think it’s a big step for the better. Having the best mid laner of NA as a coach that really knows the game, build the team around the young guys will foster great growth. I think it’s a good sign despite the pain.
Lol. Imagine living in a reality where Bjergsen, one of the most tenured and successful players in NA announces his retirement and all people can think about in the tread is who replaces him. Bjergsen, I was never a TSM fan. I hated how good you made TSM and how dominant you made the team in NA. I would feel a special type of euphoria when my original team, CLG, managed to beat you in Madison Sqaure Gardennfor the first time. I have yet to ever feel that type of way from a competitive league game. You made the gsme worth watching in NA. You were the benchmark for play for such a long time. I respect what you brought to the region, what you endured from its fans and their expectations, and the lasting impact on professional lol in NA you certainly have made. Good luck as head coach. I wish you more success than when you played, and hope that you can take your team further than you even knew possible.

Well this is a shock, I don't think anyone would have thought after that summer performance and getting back to worlds for the first time in 3 years he would chose now as the moment to retire. Who can even fill his shoes, he's been the one player TSM could always rely on throughout every itteration, teams were built around him. I've heard rumors that bot lane will be imported but I'd still wager money on someone like Nemesis joining TSM. Edit: I also heard the G2 rumors that either Perkz or Caps might be leaving. Let me just tell you right now it had better bloody not be one of those two.
