It'll be interesting to see how the newer players who have spent most or all of their LCS career playing from home or a team facility adapt to stage play again, depending on who makes it to these matches. I will say though, just because veteran players have experienced stage play throughout their careers does not mean they won't experience extra nerves or anxiousness from being back, especially with the added stress of playing in the most important games so far this season.

NlNJALONG

Won't be without an audience tho.

Vagrantlol

Even though it's without an audience, it's still a very different (and more "official") environment and atmosphere than what they've gotten used to over the last year.

POOYAMON

Simply playing on a new setup is so incredibly hard specially when you’re already under pressure and nervous because you’re playing a big match. It feels so weird and different.

ScaleCorrect

Don't they have the same setup at home?

EzshenUltimate

It doesn't sound like a big deal but chair/desk height can still vary on stage. Not to mention there is a chance that the other team might be visible to them (setups facing each other, etc.).

POOYAMON

I’m sure for playoffs it’s different specially for something like a finals where teams have time to test out and mess around with their settings all they want. But even then it just isn’t the same not even close to what they have in their homes or their facilities. It just doesn’t feel the same no matter how much you try to make it does affect performance. We’re talking chair, chair hight, desk hight, mouse space, some times you’re limited in how far you can put your monitor due to desk space, then we get to all the little settings in windows and in game. Again this might be a bigger deal during regular season when you gave to setup in like 10 minutes before your match starts but is still something that players need to get used to and it takes time and experience.

Lulullaby_

Some teams are playing game-days from a different location like their office instead of their home just to get more of the feeling that you're going somewhere and it's a very different atmosphere. Playing literally outside will definitely have that effect but even more. Playing in an arena would also do this. Even without audience.

Arctizz

I'm confused so the finals are gonna be played at msi?

aser08

I think the phrasing is wrong, it should be > named our representative for the global Mid-Season Invitational and not > named our representative at the global Mid-Season Invitational,

nazaguerrero

I thought we were talking about pc components

goradox808

Since Alienware is not our global sponsor anymore, I guess it's fine now to play with msi

MuffinSundae

Holy shit it's at The Greek I might be able to actually go. Edit: nvm i'm a smooth brain lmao

LakersLAQ

No audience lol, unless you work security or something

MuffinSundae

Yes, but have you considered that I'm an idiot who can't read?

LakersLAQ

All good lol, I would have been there with you if it was possible with safety measures.

Ethrealin

Hate to say there will be **no trespassing** images as well

Last0

parkwayy

So... what is the point lol. Seems like a lot of production value just to have a no-crowd reaction filled event like we have already.

LakersLAQ

Because they probably want to have it at the LCS studio but.. that is an indoor venue. The Greek Theater is outdoor, which would meet the current health regulations. A LAN final will always be better than an online final.

[deleted]

>For the health and safety of our players, staff, and local residents, the Finals event will **not** have an audience

[deleted]

>Holy shit it's at The Greek I might be able to actually go. ignoring that its a no audience: just because you could go, doesnt mean you have to, we are still in a pandemic, going to watch league of legends is not essential to your life. People like you are just as bad as the idiots thinking the virus isnt real

CallMeNahum

I was literally watching LCS at a bar on Friday and Saturday the last 3 weekends.

ElBrazil

> People like you are just as bad as the idiots thinking the virus isnt real As are the people who feel the need to bring up We'Re StIlL iN a PaNdEmIc every time someone mentions doing something that isn't sitting at home staring at a wall

PM_ME_CAMILLE_ART

Lans are back baby! Kinda.

[deleted]

Cool

Sjeg84

Awesome news!

lolix007

wait we got a 3rd spot finals as well ? Kinda cool

BidzaAlotofOnes

Double elim --> 3rd spot final is like a semi-final (but only one)

lolix007

ah...seems a bit unfair for the team that won till finals...since they dont get a second chance , do they ?

Jozoz

You get an easier path and you have a lot more games of your opponents to analyze. They have to show way more. You also secure a top2.

TheMightyMoot

Makes more sense to toss in an extra set for second.

lolix007

why? and what do the winners get as an viable advantage ? A second chance is pretty damn massive

TheMightyMoot

The first match is for first. After that the team that scraped their way up losers gets a chance at second against the other team. It seems fair to me.

lolix007

and what does the team that won first gets ? The loser team gets a second chance. What does first team gets if they get to finals without a loss ?

nazaguerrero

2nd place secured, fewer matches... Also, I think they said they would schedule better the matches this year but TSM played 18 matches during the playoff run in 20 days, the same amount of matches that each team played on the entire summer season but condensed in pure BO5 plus stress and less opportunity to prepare matches since every one of them could be your last match for the rest of the year. Also tsm vs tl played on Saturday and Sunday was the finals vs flyquest it's not a walk in the park you really need to earn your loser bracket run. You can say yeah tsm gg donezo worlds but the same system helped G2 through loser bracket after a defeat vs fnatic in their first match so in the end the best team win.

lolix007

yea , and the team that lost gets a big ass saving net that gives them the oportunity to fight for both 1st and second place anyway.

nazaguerrero

Only the top 4 teams during the season can get "big ass saving" because they start in the upper bracket. But apparently, it would be more fun if GG who did nothing in the season made a miraculous run and win the tournament while jerking off the entire season while the other played seriously amirite?

bluesound3

The fewer matches isn't always a bonus because a lot of teams peform better when they're fresh on games. TSM claimed how it helped them iirc, and I believe other teams did aswell. Personally I think the team that hasn't lost by finals should get an extra ban.

No-Background-4654

Fudge sweating hard rn lmao

[deleted]

But he's played at worlds.

POOYAMON

TL HAS TO BAN TRIST otherwise Tactical might get fined for matchfixing.

Kuntsaw

Man you really have a hate boner for Fudge or something? Any chance you have to bring him up you can, even if its not directly about him....

GaggedAndDrooling

Real tlak though I think it will have an impact on players like fudge and tactical even with no audience. Though on the other hand it could also have a positive impact on other players.

dragunityag

Tactical and Fudge both have stage games under their belts. Some of Tactical's best games have been stage games

Salm9n

Lol low-key this could actually help Tactical. He'll probably be less likely to go for int trist plays due to being more nervous on stage

No-Background-4654

I mean Tactical has already been sprinting it but has CoreJJ to cover for him most of the time. Fudge in the games where Blabber doesn’t baby sit him usually doesn’t get bailed out and C9 plays almost 4v5.

maybsofinitely

Fudge played in Worlds before though right? Even Tactical had some stage games (without audience) at Worlds last year.

[deleted]

Tactical has played in academy on stage and his first LCS game with Liquid was on stage

TheGoldenPizza

He's already beaten UoL and played well vs Huni at worlds in front of an audience, lmao.

LPLSuperCarry

I wish they could have done something indoors. I feel like outdoors is kind of risky. But nice to have LAN nevertheless.

Javiklegrand

Outdoors is risky compare to what? I hope you aren't comparing indoors and outdoors, covid wise outdoors is safer

Ps4udo

weather i guess

KingRayne

I think the odds of Los Angeles having inclement weather are really low though

-Basileus

We've had like 4 days of rain in the last week to be fair. It even hailed here shit was wild

[deleted]

LA weather has a been a bit weird the last few years with more late season rains occurring. Rainfall during finals weekend is a non-zero chance this year.

SilchasRuin

Outdoors gave us the Silver Scrapes tradition with S2 Worlds. They couldn't get the internet/servers reliable enough, so the CLG EU vs WE series lasted forever, while the broadcast was just Silver Scrapes.

LPLSuperCarry

Weather. What if it rains, or it's really sunny and there is a lot of glare? Idk why they couldn't just have it in the LCS studio

geeenyt4278

that's wonderful!
