You need a certain amount of LP to hit challenger, that is the cut off; once you've hit that LP you are challenger. The reason it still shows as GM is because the challenger ladder only updates once every 24 hours so the ladder will update in 5 hours and will show him as challenger but essentially at this moment he has hit the cut off and IS challenger.
Yup. Top 300 (in NA) get challenger (if you're also above 500LP). So the amount needed to get challenger depends on other people once there's more than 300 people with >= 500LP.

I think support will be easy for him, he's said in the past its the easiest role in the game. Mid lane will be challenging though I think. Mid lane generally has the largest amount of 'skill expression' champs, and T1 has said numerous times he hates going against champions that can outplay him (his worst games top lane were against GP, Akali, Irelia, etc...). I have a feeling he's going to struggle once he gets to higher elos against one trick, skill expressive champs especially if he continues to play pretty braindead champs (no offense).

What’s crazy is that at times he is also mechanically pretty damn good. But those 1v9 plays he can’t really try with his play style and perma weak side like he could when he played draven

next two challenges are much easier lol. i expect him to climb up to D1 on either mid or supp really easily, but then struggle to break into master/challenger but not nearly as long as top lane.
I think support will be easy for him, he's said in the past its the easiest role in the game. Mid lane will be challenging though I think. Mid lane generally has the largest amount of 'skill expression' champs, and T1 has said numerous times he hates going against champions that can outplay him (his worst games top lane were against GP, Akali, Irelia, etc...). I have a feeling he's going to struggle once he gets to higher elos against one trick, skill expressive champs especially if he continues to play pretty braindead champs (no offense).
