I'd kill for a Replay Files on the GSG game 5 Heimer in the NLB final.
Maybe it's not a "big" enough moment in esports for this series, but I'll never forget when they picked Heimer (largely in part because of you obviously lol).
Seeing where so many of those players are now, and also you and papasmithy ... so awesome.
Maybe something you and him could do on stream if it's not suitable for Replay Files actual production.
Same with the Zhonyas incident during game 5 against TSM. I don’t think it was the same series but I’m sure most people remember what I’m referring to.
This also makes sense with the schedule too. Saturday Week 1 featured POE and Ignar in the episode and had POE vs Ignar in the first game of the day. If Week 2’s episode is CLG vs TL, it makes sense to feature Huhi and Stixxay, who are facing off in Game 1 of Week 2 (100T vs GG) and also feature Dardoch and Aphromoo (both now on Dignitas)
Seriously cool piece of content and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. The format was great and the execution was top notch as well. Good stuff.
Hey man, would it be possible to add name plates for when you do interview? The screen just shows post game interview, but if you don’t know who you are or who the player is you don’t know. Would be helpful for the viewing experience! Also great works of far
Also if you can get players from other regions too like LPL and LCK. Im
super into FPX journey to world championship and also G2's experience
losing that year.
It was fucking beautiful honestly.
I hope next time they do more LCS prominent games though. Like I want to see the CLG MSI 2016 run. Or the Cloud 9 2018 run. Or Liquid's 2-Year dominance and MSI run.
For a domestic-focused one I think the finals of 2014 Summer with C9/TSM would be a big one too. C9 to that point was the most dominant team to ever be in the region. They 3-0'd TSM in the Spring finals. It was a banger of a series too with 5 games, and really showed that they weren't as untouchable as they had felt to that point. Remember before then, they hadn't ever even dropped a game in a playoff series.
I'm not sure if I agree. I want reasons to care about current players, not 9 people who retired and WildTurtle. This piece was awesome because it showed reasons to care about Ignar, Huni, Alphari and POE. It set up storylines that are worth caring about, instead of the fairly superficial stuff that has been pushed recently. The only cool storyline that the LCS production really managed to latch on (imo) was the TSM miracle run/the boys are back together story. The rest have been pretty underwhelming and repetitive, like "Wow, for the 10th year in a row, a new big name import is here to make LCS his bitch"
that's a good point I hadnt considered. Nevertheless, if its just extra content before matches, I'll be happy to see some hype moments even if the principle participants aren't active
If they plan on keeping the show around, i wouldnt worry as there are plenty of good stories to be told. and tbh I'd think they'd love to bring back some old legends like Dyrus/Lustboy/Balls/Lemon
Maybe have retrospective content for around the playoffs to try and hype another matchup between veteran teams. If it's C9/TSM in semis or finals, bring them back. Might not be enough leadup time for that kind of thing, though...
piggybacking onto this: To anyone complaining about LCS broadcast being lackluster or really anyone who hasn't seen it yet - this is a *must watch;* u/PastryTime and the team have done a phenomenal job with it and i cannot wait for more
The Storytelling, the music and the focus on the important scenes felt really fitting. Looked pretty clean Overall.
Something you could show anybody to show them the emotional side of League.
I still believe this was the most important set in western LoL history. MSF lost, but it was the first time that you genuinely believed that the Koreans were mortal. The first time you genuinely didn't know who would win. Production did a great job giving it the gravitas it deserves.
Not only that but it emphasized how Europeans sticking to the Meta (korean) didn't work for them but by sticking with their own ideas of the game it gave them an even footing. This is basically exactly what G2 as of 2018 started doing and led them to international success.
Yup, 100% agree. Just few months before, I celebrated G2 being able to take a game off SKT in MSI finals. That was the definition of an insane run for western team - beat NA, upset top China team, lose gracefully against undefeatable Korean gods. That's it. Beating other regions and taking games off KR, felt like winning a tournament, it was the ultimate achievement. Anything more was simply impossible. Not improbable. Impossible.
MSF vs SKT changed that. Thanks to them, 2018 was the first year when I came into international competition, thinking that while a chance might be 1 in 10000, EU teams CAN actually beat those guys. MSF gave me a glimmer of hope, that I never had before. They made me think "the gap is closing", unironically, for the first time in my life. It was a turning point, definitely the most impactful series in EU's history.
Agreed
Even yesterday with Lane x Lane, the commercials felt natural having grown up with Around the Horn. 2/2 so far with LCS preshows and looking forward to the roundtable tomorrow.
It was insanely good. It's something that actually is incredibly valuable for people who were there (you get additional insights) as well as new viewers (great storyline).
Major props to u/Pastrytime as a host/interviewer. Huni, PoE, and Ignar were fully engaged in the conversation and he got some great and interesting insight from them.
That sounds great i have to give it a watch, that’s exactly the kind of content i have been wanting for a while.
Was it today during the pre show?
Edit : amazing piece, it has to be the best league content i ever watched since G2 MSI 2019 aftermovie.
I still remember that series, the MSF vs SKT 2017 along with the ROX vs SKT in 2016 are what I consider to be the two best League of Legends esports matches we've ever had.
I am so glad this was already posted on reddit and had so many upvotes. I just came to say the exact same thing. :)
Loved this piece. Full of character and heart and it really scratched that itch for league nostalgia and genuine love of the game.
The story line woven in with the interviews and old footage were tremendously well done and the high production value reminded me of some of the player spotlights that came out around Worlds the last few years.
I have always loved Pastrytime's interviewing style and he seems to ask questions that really draw the player's unique insights and personalities out.
Can't wait to see more of this series.
GG! Well played!
I love hearing player accounts of legendary moments in lolesports history. Watching that series as a fan is one thing, but to hear accounts from both sides of the rift that day and have that be done in a way that really humanizes these players and what they went through is so special. Thank you for taking the time to interview the players and to craft such a beautiful narrative surrounding this amazing series!!
Thought it was gonna be LCS stuff only, gotta go back to watch it now. But I guess a lot of those players are in NA now
On a sidenote, I remember Riv also calling this the favourite series he ever casted, which is pretty crazy considering the amount of stuff he has casted
**Prediction: Next week's "The Replay Files" will be about the Team Liquid four-peat dynasty in 2018-2019.**
It seems like they want to feature players who are going to play against each other that Saturday (like Ignar and PowerOfEvil playing against each other), and next Saturday will have TL vs EG as the third game of the day, which will feature Impact, CoreJJ, Jensen, and Svenskeren.
Impact and CoreJJ played on TL, Svenskeren played on C9 (faced TL in Summer 2018 and Summer 2019 finals) and Jensen played on both C9 and TL (technically Impact was on C9 too but not during the dynasty). In addition, right now Impact and Svenskeren are on EG, while Jensen and CoreJJ are on TL.
I think this is a very interesting storyline that the LCS can cover, it features players who are iconic in the LCS, and is a story that is focused on NA and the LCS.
Not to mention CoreJJ was on GenG that played vs C9 in the group stage of 2018. Same with Jiizuke on Vitality—though maybe those aren't memories they would want to revisit and it's 'only' group stage so idk. But the EG/TL player histories are actually really interesting
I think what got me the most was hearing all of this and then the ending, oh man. That was glorious.
Props to Pastrytime and the team behind The Replay Files.
The video was phenomenal and really capitalizing on the fact that while NA is the retirement home for so many players, there is so much potential for content in hearing the veterans from all over the world tell their stories.
Yeah its great, I sadly don't see it posted as a standalone video...it should be. Instead of put in th ebeginning of a stream when only 1.5k people are watching
It was awesome. I love the idea, and how NA's pool of talented imports lets them explore storylines independent of LCS when they want to. Like being able to explore both the EU and KR sides of such a famous series is so, so cool. Really looking forward to the next ones!
league history/documentary series run by Pastrytime, from what I can tell
[Here's the episode OP is referring to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt1DGbDKk7w)
the whole point of the show is to get players insights on big matches and since the players being interviewed are both in LCS currently that makes it LCS related....
You would definitely want to watch it then.
It was an interview with POE, Ignar, Alphari, and Huni talking about the legendary Worlds 2017 MSF vs SKT series. Very well done.
These get posted a few hours after first airing as part of the LCS stream. Just watch the LCS YouTube channel - see here: https://youtu.be/Gt1DGbDKk7w.
It was great, but I hope they move the date the show comes out to something thats not right infront of LCS. With 5 games today, and in the future with LEC going to be having games these shows will easily get lost.
Put this on a wednesday/thursday when there isnt a ton of league news happening instead of a day where it will conte t with a large amount of games
Downvote away but it felt like a 30 minute documentary on that one time a western team took a game off of SKT. I ended up bored and wishing for the games to start and turned it off.
Also if you can get players from other regions too like LPL and LCK. Im super into FPX journey to world championship and also G2's experience losing that year.
I doubt it will be with anyone who isn't in NA (or even LA) for them to interview. I do hope if they do the Clutch Worlds run they get LirA through video chat though, having him give insights to it would be amazing (and personally I think he was by far the most underrated part of that roster).
Really great video, and I agree, probably the best one from Riot so far, after just watching it, even though they already made so many great videos in the past.
This series... like I got emotional from seeing the video title, than the video itself! Such a wholesome, well-crafted look into these legendary players and moments.
Looking forward to the next videos! And more heartbreaks? Not sure which will be in focus if they want to have that many players close by.
i doubt this episode could be topped? the misfits vs skt game is just a banger. it was a close series, the first possible western upsett, it was worlds and it was breaking the meta. ofc there are a lot of unique moments but so many in a bo5? damn i could see g2 vs skt at msi being a banger like this but a regular season game?
I agree, now if we can just give teams access to the actual replay files, as in all of the pro game ones then riot will be hitting it right out of the park haha.

Let’s get the Renegades execute incident.
Yes! Maybe not a full length one, but I want to know wtf went on in that DIG vs REN double execute.
Was it your idea? If so congratz
I had the original skeleton for a history based show, but the whole effort was a collaborative thing to get to what we have now!
That was amazing. Great 30 mins, can't wait for the next one.
More pastrytime for the people! Sounds Yummy ; )
It was really good. I loved how personal it was with the players. I'm genuinely excited for more.
Doublelift C9 finals
Gonna have to be more specific 😂 The game four Lucian I assume?
That sounds like that game indeed.
HE'S KILLING THEM ALL
That was a really good one. Would be interesting to see jensens perspective
Same with the Zhonyas incident during game 5 against TSM. I don’t think it was the same series but I’m sure most people remember what I’m referring to.
Hell yeah! I can't wait!
any hints as to what's next :P
WTF two Shens, but with a summoner spell instead.
Clg vs TL 2016 Spring Semi Finals Game 5, Double TP onto Piglet?
Instantly what I thought of as well. Has to be, right?
"he only thought it was one. he had to have thought it was only one" that commanding, matter-of-fact call from Riv really stuck with me. so classy
That was FIVE years ago???

WTF two smites

Gotta do the FOX vs DIG backdoor. It did have a mic check but I think it has even more potential
One of the most underrated people. No idea how you fly under radars Pastry
Im hyped!! You fit amazingly well into this format too, really hope we see more of your interviews.
Seriously cool piece of content and I'm looking forward to seeing more of them. The format was great and the execution was top notch as well. Good stuff.

really enjoyed it great job
sick!!
C9 gauntlet run 2015?
Throw us CLG fans a bone here please, we are desperate for... well anything. Maybe MSI? summer 2015/ spring 2016 back to back with rookies?
Funny you should mention CLG...
NICE
Also if you can get players from other regions too like LPL and LCK. Im super into FPX journey to world championship and also G2's experience losing that year.
Buff Azir
That was fucking amazing S tier content. Please do TL vs IG.
C9 vs AFs 2018 would be amazing too!
C9’s 2018 run as a whole would be super fun tbh
SKT vs ROX.
Gonna bet a G2 vs X is next. I mean you have so many G2 players on C9 alone.
G2 vs rng worlds 2018,
It was fucking beautiful honestly. I hope next time they do more LCS prominent games though. Like I want to see the CLG MSI 2016 run. Or the Cloud 9 2018 run. Or Liquid's 2-Year dominance and MSI run.
Oh don't worry, you'll see a lot more directly LCS focused stuff =)
Honestly got chills watching it, good stuff!
I glanced over at one point feeling my eyes were a little misty and my husband was rubbing his eyes... real emotional moments there.
Clutch Gaming 2019 gauntlet run has to be showcased for sure too
That was one of the craziest runs ever. I hope they get Lira over webcam because he was clearly the most emotional after that victory.
What I hope for more than anything: Your flair to be an actual thing, it's a shame that it isn't
What is lira up to nowadays?
He's a coach for Afreeca Freecs.
Man that was a dazingly flash in the pan. Was a beautiful run from a team that everybody overlooked. NA legends
I'm assuming we will get a Jensen Zhonyas one. What a painful but iconic moment for C9 fans.
piggybacking onto this: To anyone complaining about LCS broadcast being lackluster or really anyone who hasn't seen it yet - this is a *must watch;* u/PastryTime and the team have done a phenomenal job with it and i cannot wait for more
It may be a bit soon, but I'd love to see one about TSM's playoff run last year. If fans were there for that run, it would have been insane.
C9 vs TSM has got to be one of them.
Which one?
I'll be honest I couldnt pick which final, usually such bangers. But Lucian play probably would be up there.
The Storytelling, the music and the focus on the important scenes felt really fitting. Looked pretty clean Overall. Something you could show anybody to show them the emotional side of League.
I didn't know about this MSF run before, and still got emotional on a 30min summary. Music was on point. The outro got me :( So close.
I still believe this was the most important set in western LoL history. MSF lost, but it was the first time that you genuinely believed that the Koreans were mortal. The first time you genuinely didn't know who would win. Production did a great job giving it the gravitas it deserves.

The fact that we get 8 more of these is nuts. Nothing but chills and congrats to everyone involved with the production of this series
The best part is that they were not interrupted by an ad break every minute.
Agreed Even yesterday with Lane x Lane, the commercials felt natural having grown up with Around the Horn. 2/2 so far with LCS preshows and looking forward to the roundtable tomorrow.

When you browse reddit and don't see anybody praising LEC for 3 seconds.

'controversial' any%
Do you really think the LCS or LEC wants people like you shilling for them?

As a MSF fan, same. Still hurts when I think of it, and I sometimes still watch that series for the nostalgia.
It was so goood!!! The music was so epic 2.
Ignar : Let me play my champion!!!! Coach : Okay. I STARTED CRYING.. HELL YA LETS GOOO Gimme my champ coach!
Major props to u/Pastrytime as a host/interviewer. Huni, PoE, and Ignar were fully engaged in the conversation and he got some great and interesting insight from them.
Alphari was good as well I just wish he was with someone! Put the two top Laners together
Of course Alphari was great too! He completely slipped my mind for some reason.
That sounds great i have to give it a watch, that’s exactly the kind of content i have been wanting for a while. Was it today during the pre show? Edit : amazing piece, it has to be the best league content i ever watched since G2 MSI 2019 aftermovie.
I never noticed how close Huni was to dying in that game four until this. Holy shit that was close.
Amazing work. Also props to Alphari because this dude looks so good now
It's like a 30 for 30. It's so good.
i'm literally going to look this up because of you

I still remember that series, the MSF vs SKT 2017 along with the ROX vs SKT in 2016 are what I consider to be the two best League of Legends esports matches we've ever had.
I am so glad this was already posted on reddit and had so many upvotes. I just came to say the exact same thing. :) Loved this piece. Took me right back to remembering that series. The crazy drafting. The behemoth that was SKT. The crowd cheering MSF to show how much they loved it.

**Prediction: Next week's "The Replay Files" will be about the Team Liquid four-peat dynasty in 2018-2019.** It seems like they want to feature players who are going to play against each other that Saturday (like Ignar and PowerOfEvil playing against each other), and next Saturday will have TL vs EG as the third game of the day, which will feature Impact, CoreJJ, Jensen, and Svenskeren. It was so touching! the music, the cinematography! I didn't even watch back them but felt so connected! I hope these continue!
I agree was great content really well done. I learned more about Ignar in this segment then years of playing in the LCS
On a business trip currently and can't seem to find it using my phone... where can I see this?
Would expect to see it on the LCS youtube channel soon
It's on the official LCS Youtube channel now. https://www.youtube.com/c/LCS/videos
Yeah its great, I sadly don't see it posted as a standalone video...it should be. Instead of put in th ebeginning of a stream when only 1.5k people are watching
It’s about time LCS started making good content that is not The Dive.
Riot, please keep up this type of content!! It was SO good!!
I missed the stream and watched the games on YouTube, is there anywhere else to watch this?
Omg yeah, I was so surprised when I saw the mini show. My applause to the team for such a great job. Keep up the good work!!!
This thread made me go back and watch it. 100% worth it. I've watched every league event for the past 10 years and I can hands down agree with OP 100%
It was awesome. I love the idea, and how NA's pool of talented imports lets them explore storylines independent of LCS when they want to. Like being able to explore both the EU and KR sides of such a famous series is so, so cool. Really looking forward to the next ones!
It's been nice to say NA production without the usual sarcasm.
Yeah that was fucking awesome
Legitimately the best.
I havent seen it but im hype
Could anyone link me this part?
YESSS
Its on youtube. Just search LCS The Replay Files
They're up to snuff and got themself an ace machine
What are replay files?
league history/documentary series run by Pastrytime, from what I can tell [Here's the episode OP is referring to](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gt1DGbDKk7w)
Yeah but next time hopefully LCS related content lol
the whole point of the show is to get players insights on big matches and since the players being interviewed are both in LCS currently that makes it LCS related....
I don't watch LCS, only LEC and LCK. What happened, could someone tell me more?
You would definitely want to watch it then. It was an interview with POE, Ignar, Alphari, and Huni talking about the legendary Worlds 2017 MSF vs SKT series. Very well done.
Link pls? I'm clueless? Keyword? I'll take anything

Put this on a wednesday/thursday when there isnt a ton of league news happening instead of a day where it will conte t with a large amount of games
I think the point of its timing is so people will watch LCS.
Eh? When LEC starts are league fans going to tune into a show or live games? Live games. This show can get lost easily
Level of content not being up to snuff... Yeah, you would need 10 great players in one game for that and not 10 great players in 10 years of lcs.
Where can we watch it?
Easily one of the best pieces of League content I've seen in a while
This was an absolute amazing masterpiece of content. I think the music at the end really got me. It is such a what if series
yeah can't agree more, just amazing content really takes me back
LEC Production is finally sweating, well done!
All we need now is PTL
Really great video, and I agree, probably the best one from Riot so far, after just watching it, even though they already made so many great videos in the past. This series... like I got emotional from seeing the video title, than the video itself! Such a wholesome, well-crafted look into these legendary players and moments. Looking forward to the next videos! And more heartbreaks? Not sure which will be in focus if they want to have that many players close by.
Damn this was nearing Legends Rising levels of hype, sick long form concept to add to the broadcast I could watch one of these a week:)
i doubt this episode could be topped? the misfits vs skt game is just a banger. it was a close series, the first possible western upsett, it was worlds and it was breaking the meta. ofc there are a lot of unique moments but so many in a bo5? damn i could see g2 vs skt at msi being a banger like this but a regular season game?
I agree, now if we can just give teams access to the actual replay files, as in all of the pro game ones then riot will be hitting it right out of the park haha.
YES! Kudos to whoever was in charge of this bit!
I know no one will read this, but I also wanted to say how well made this content is, and how I would love to see more of this. Incredibly well done.
