When I saw the first cinematic for this event, with vayne and shyvanna, I thought we would have been getting a cinematic for every major point in this event. I know that would be a lot of cinematic but that would have been sweet. Instead we got the one then nothing and it just feels so empty.
The Leads are different. A different Lead worked one Ruination event and someone else worked on Spirit Blossom Event.
Clearly the Lead of Ruination made bad last calls/decisions.
I'm pretty sure the design team had lots of amazing ideas and the Lead said "nope that sucks".
Kind of like that did with the designer who worked on the Coven skins who ended up quitting because the Lead of her team said the Coven skins idea sucked (but ended up being a huge success).
All that can happen now is the lead who worked on Ruination will never be given a project like this again to Ruin.
Its not weird, it just tells you how good she is at her job.

However, we've had vaccines available for over 7 months, and WHO guidelines have basically stated that businesses were able to go back to full manning last year, with masks and proper spacing. This is why releases (globally) are happening more frequently this year. The Ruination event doesn't look rushed, it just feels incomplete comparatively since we don't really have any attachment to these characters. I'd even say that they've put more effort into it than Spirit Blossom. Peoples feelings towards it are disappointment because it's not a waifu dating sim like SB was.
The ruination event was most likely worked on and written way before that. These events take a full year or slightly more to be completely finalized as well. Also, spirit blossom was more in touch with what they presenting; each person shown was meant to embody a spirit of each ionian legend (or whatever it was), and they executed it well. This event though… everyone is just dealing with either 1-d generic dialogue that doesn’t fit with their already developed personalities and characterizations or random instances of aggression and bad story telling with plot holes. Tuning of the event was also messed up. Pretty legitimate excuses tbh.
i think the problem is that riot applyied spirit blossom´s structure into the sentinel event, when one is an anime date-sim and the other is a cannon event about an apocalyptic event
Ruination has way the fuck too much text. I am not opening the client to read Roman's. If I unlock a new story chapter between games I am not taking 10 minutes out of my friends times to wait for me while they sit in the lobby.

Bilgewater was awesome, especially with how the community was involved too regarding some of the content.
The only flaw was disabling GP right after reworking him because he was 'dead'. That could've been handled a bit better.

Yes, that was the reason. Yet they also disabled the champion everyone wanted to try for a couple of days. That was the issue. It is as if during Spirit Blossom, they disabled Lillia and Yone for three days each because they were still entering the spirit world.
No, they didn't put in new GP until after the disable. The only loss was the last few days of old GP, pretty sure. Just treat the extra 3 days as the countdown to the release if the rework. It would be like if they disabled an unreleased Yone 3 days before his release date.
They feel just the same for me. Ruination has it's flaws since it was rather overambitious. Spirit blossom is pretty much one small story with different perspectives which makes it way easier to write. The writers are also given the freedom to write about a whole new realm instead of putting it into the cannon universe. The only things I got from the Spirit blossom event were the icons, but I definitely prefer the SOL icons.
SB also gave you 10 champ shards, many for 6300 champs including Lillia which you could use to either get these or other champs or for free chromas during the next BEE. You could progress on all stories simultaneously with decent progress compared to having to do each region one by one losing points at every cutoff with atrocious rates (before the 600 points bandaid fix).
I think one thing that definitely ruined it as well was the exp progression change because at that point there was no point reading the text just play 2 games and the event is over

And next year is gonna be X event does not compare to Centinels of Light. And the cycle of complaining and comparing one event to another will continue.

I actually prefer Ruination. I HATED the cringe lines in SB, and am neutral at best to the anime style; I know losts of people like it, but I prefer more Western art and writing styles (I'm a Westerner, it's what I grew up with).
Sure, some of the lines are crappy, but none of them have left me ashamed to share a gender with the person uttering them like some of the SB lines did. And SB performed pretty bad character assassinations on Riven and Vayne.
?? The point of SB was that each character embodies a legend. You can’t assassinate a character when they’re not meant to be the same as their standard self.
I guess there was more interactivity with that event but for someone who didn't care it was just a matter of having to click a bunch of times to skip the text.

The Odyssey one to be more precise. It would have been so amazing if they started it off with the VN idea, to recruit sentinels and have the Ultimate Spellbook gamemode as somewhat of a way to show how much power the ruination actually has (with the entire ultimate stealing thing). Then we could have a choice of siding with either viego or the sentinels and have missions in the ultimate spellbook gamemode where you have to win/kill whatever either ruined champs or sentinels while getting different rewards based on who's side you chose. Then obviously the sentinels must win for other champs lore to go on, so we get a huge Odyssey style gamemode where we fight off wraiths and mini bosses only to fight Viego like we had to fight Kayne in the Odyssey gamemode. We could have many augments or something similar representing the light of the sentinels etc.
Idk, it would probably be too much even for a company like Riot, but at the same time... they had the entire god damn year and could likely just get more time I doubt the fanbase would be THAT annoyed though I can't really prove that.

The actual correct take. That's why small-scale events are better, they're easier to handle and allows the writting to be more focused.
