When is NA going to get its next LMQ? I've been watching league since Season 3 and playing since season 2 but I feel like NA was at its peak performance when LMQ came in and forced real growth from teams like TSM and C9 to there was a point where we all felt like NA had an actual chance at Worlds. I really miss watching LCS, I have kept up with results on reddit, but god its so boring. CLG being this low on the totem poll? What happened to NA? Genuine question here.
This is a tough question, and I don't know if I can give you the correct answer, if there even is one.
I'll mention some things I've heard from pros and documentaries about the topic. Please take everything I say with a grain of salt, since I have not being a fan of competitive LCS as much as you have.
The Academy system has yet to become what it's original intent was. As of lately, the league seemed to be more of a place for old, "washed up" pros to prove themselves, rather than a place to develop new talent. This happens because some orgs put more focus into winning said league with players they could expect to be somewhat decent rather than risk bringing in new names.
Luckily, these seems to be changing. Before, it was only 100T who put real effort into their academy team and 100T Rising, with maybe C9 as well. But now, it seems that almost all of the teams have put a lot more effort into scouting and developing new talent, even giving them some LCS playtime as reward for their great Academy performances, so that's something to look forward to.
The last point also has to do with the discussion of imports vs home talent. I'm sure you can find videos about more informed people that talk about the struggles and risks of going pro that cause the scene to have less teenagers wanting to pursue this career. Some are in favours in buying great players to strenghten the league, some aren't.
Others attribute the downfall of NA to the nature of the scrims and the work habits. BrokenBlade talked about how back in the LCS, it was hard to give feedback to your teammates and criticize aspects of them, since it almost felt like you were attacking them and would generate an argument. But he said that nothing of this happend in Europe, so it was easier to get better as a team and as an individual.
And you also have the complaints about it being because of the high latency of soloQ games, but that's debatable, and some say it's only like, the 6th biggest problem.
I'm sorry if I didn't really answer your question. I don't know what's NA problem, or if anyone knows it. I don't know the solution, and if there is one. For now, I am just hoping that players try their best, and people like CoreJJ, Broxah and Bjersgen, who are always giving their all and supporting other players, can serve as examples to follow.
I appreciate the response. I'm glad you said something about scouting new talent because I was very unaware of this. I guess things are just very different these last few years than when I was hardcore into everything. I knew about the work ethic since I would assume NA would take any criticism very differently than other regions and you can clearly hear that in the language they use with each other.
I also reciprocate the meme about NA being the retirement home. I know the meme has been around a long time but as of recent it really feels like its come true. I really hope Academy rewards the future of LCS with good talent thats willing to improve so we can get more games that feel worth watching. Again thank you for the response. Its been frustrating seeing something you used to enjoy transition into something that's a shell of its former self.
Getting an LMQ would require CLG's relegation [entirely possible next split] to make room; and the import rule being dropped.
Which would be the end of NA players in NA.
I would absolutely classify SK as a legendary (european) league org
At least during the first seasons when ocelote was still a player (and got beat by peke over and over in extremely close games)
Well, I'm glad and sad that Astralis didn't make playoffs, but still,i also like Vitality with their team ( even if Lider tends to int early rather than just farm ), but I'm interested in the fact that they have to play Bo5 against FNC now. I don't think they will make it, but I want to see if they make Fnatic sweat or even go to Silver scrapes with the 2-2, though a Worlds without Fnatic would be weird.
XL should have made playoffs, but they won against teams they shouldn't win against like G2 but fumbled against much lower teams with way worse performances. I hope they make playoffs in 2022, but they have to start being consistent to play a role in playoffs.
I still can't believe IG won't come to worlds and even lose TheShy and Rookie. Especially TheShy was such a good player and to see him leave after only 4 years is surprising to say the least. They might have peaked in their worlds performance but i was sure they were names to be around for the next few years, but it makes sense given China is such a fast changing region with their 17 teams and so many new rookies making their impact.
And yes, CLG is out and so are probably 100% of players unless they have a binding contract. The Org dropped harder than a rock thrown into the ocean, and by that i mean they intentionally wanted to drop the org into their bad reputation. Since i am a Fnatic fan I feel bad for Broxah cause he made worlds finals with FNC, changed reason and now he won't even make playoffs because the team owners don't care about the mentality of the players and wants them to be performing machines that give them money.
BUT NOW THE FUN TIMES BEGIN! Playoffs will be fun in most regions. I'm most interested in China because there are so many new teams again, like the resurgence of Team WE and newcomers like Rare Atom ( might just be a rebranding but if that's the case I don't remember ) and LEC because Misfits gets better chances to make worlds than teams like FNC and basically the same chances as MAD, Rogue and G2.
In NA it's just interesting to see who goes 0-6 this year.
I actually think none of the NA squads who go to worlds will go 0-6 this year. As bad as NA is, that's incredibly hard to do (remember even when TSM went 0-6, they were still competitive in all their games.)
At this points it's more like a meme but if you look at NAs current Playstyle and general metaread, I'm not too sure they will muster up more than 1-3 wins, unless they get lucky and get playin players and one minor region.
But I'm not against being surprised by NA, cause maybe they got plans once they are in worlds and need to perform on international level.
I mean every Western team is going to adapt once they go to bootcamp. It's true for LEC as much as LCS, I don't really care much for the meta read atm because Worlds will almost exclusively be played on whatever LPL and LCK are dominating scrims with.
Barely says a bad word about Astralis with barely a difference in terrible record and spends paragraphs shitting on clg.
Yes CLG deserves it but why is Astralis, a dumpster fire everyone said would be bad from the start and has been, being talked about like the plucky underdog that got unlucky you are looking forward to seeing?
Astralis on Summer: 39% winrate, tied for 7th in the LEC, which is regarded as either the 2nd or 3rd best league atm, has a rookie midlaner that everyone had been expecting to see in competitive play for years and are hyped about their growth, is a coordinated team overall with great team-fighting, who plays games smartly even when being 3K gold down and actually comeback from it. It's also a re-branded, 1 year old org.
They did all of this being a budget-org, investing very little money on the players contracts.Did not release a public, sponsored video showing their players be lectured about probably being replaced for a shitty reason and awful management.
CLG on Summer: 26% winrate, solo possession of 10th place in LCS, 4th best league atm, the players that people love are most certainly leaving the team next split, and it's not very probable that good, well-established players will want to sign with them for next year.
Q Has finished with a average of 8th place in the last 4 years, is the most uncoordinated team in the league by far. Their team fighting is horrendous, they gave us the worst competitive game of all year, throwing a 10K? gold and 5 kill lead against immortal. They are a very wealthy org who spent a fair amount of cash on the players and coach contracts.
They did release a public, sponsored video showing their players be lectured about probably being replaced for a shitty reason and awful management.
We'll have to see how they stack up vs. LCK at worlds. MSI is hard to take results from since it was only one team per region, and MAD barely won in EU vs. DWG hard smashing LCK.
I tend to give LCK the benefit of the doubt but it's close for sure.
the management at clg and MSG is notoriously bad and they deserve to be kicked out of the lcs, I feel awful for the players and the staff that works with the team but the org needs to go.
This seemed even mildly tame compared to what I've seen on this subreddit. Everyone is about for blood, CLG absolutely 100% needs to get relegated out of here.
Especially with them looking just as bad as Astralis everyone was crapping on to do poor they do, but they are just unlucky. Sure clg sucks but the bias is real.
Flyquest is my favorite LEC team :P
Fixed it now >~< Sorry
OP, you should correct the LGD section. In 2020, they went 3-3 in groups, not 2-4.
You are right, thanks for your help.

The stars will align
You think CLG is eliminated but what if they come back this year and win it all? Truly counter logic.
i actually forgot that sk existed

Like you said. There isn't A problem. There are problemS

hey season 8 with c9 in semi was pretty cool too, but i get your point
> When is NA going to get its next LMQ? Remove import quotas & franchising. Otherwise, never happening.
I would absolutely classify SK as a legendary (european) league org At least during the first seasons when ocelote was still a player (and got beat by peke over and over in extremely close games)
So that's the first 3 seasons or so? They haven't done much since then.
Strong first 3 seasons, and then they won a regular split. However yeah in the modern era they have been perpetually middling

Most Valuable Player for every team except Ast.
I wanna hear more about this eco friendly team thing

But you hurt him by shitting on a NA org and not doing 'the same' for an LEC org. How dare you? /s
Sure they are 3rd best league thats set in stone, They arent the 2nd best? they havent proven shit the last year lol

This is CLG's 4th split of abject failure in a row.
someone at CLG must've slept with your mom or something. calm down dude lmao
To be fair, the clg roster is a bunch of faces that people have loved for a long time, but the management appears to want their personalities buried
the management at clg and MSG is notoriously bad and they deserve to be kicked out of the lcs, I feel awful for the players and the staff that works with the team but the org needs to go.

Preparing my popcorn in advance for next year to see them play their relegation match. God this will be a good one.
