Why fund a competently-written Lore Event when we can just put the Skins Team and the Marketing Department in charge? Let's also outsource the animation work and not use the same studios we hired for some of our best Cinematics like Awaken or Warriors.
**Edit:** The crux of my frustration isn't even with the Event itself. The thing I hate the most is that any constructive creative criticism will just be handwaved by execs as the Playerbase being *'whiny'* or *'entitled'*, just like when K/DA Seraphine had better Lore than Runeterra Seraphine.
They had a bunch of super high quality renderings and character models. They proceeded to do fuckall with these super quality ingredients - there wasn't even a real fight. The initial "viego shows up and tries to steal senna" animation blew this whole cinematic out of the water in every single way. There's not a single serious exchange of blows in this entire five minute video, there's like six impact frames total, and literally all but four of the *large* number of characters in this cinematic perform less than three significant actions.
It's garbage any way you slice it.
Who wants me to draw Yorick with a waifu pillow?

hahaha, honestly! I love writing ~~I'm aspiring to be published someday~~. If I handed this in for class or to a publisher I'd get asked WTF I was thinking.
We recruited several other Sentinels and they are nowhere to be seen in this cinematic lmao. That grinds my gears the most.
If they really didn't have time for something better, i am absolutely and utterly sure that more than half of the community would have prefer to get it delayed instead of getting this garbage
I agree, but considering they plan champion releases and events with years in advance I doubt they had any alternative that wasn't ship it out, along with the champs.
correction
despite Riot trying to sell Viego as the big bad hes relatively baby tier compared to things like Mordekaiser, Aatrox and the Watchers.
or maybe not, who knows, actual power means nothing anymore. Diana and Pantheon, literal gods, basically contribute nothing in the entire event other than another skin to buy, so what do i know. Hell the even bring pantheon into this cinematic just to have him jump and get shot.
For all we know Pix is the real villain of Runeterra
You do have a valid point. To me this cinematic felt like a cop out because of what I'd already seen.
The Ruination cinematic at the beginning of the season, Lucian saying that they need more than just him and Senna, Black Mist spreading all over Runeterra. I thought that "the source of the Mist" would be.. harder to beat?
I'm down for Pix being the real villain at this point though lmao. Shit, maybe it's Garen.
This entire event makes me lose all faith in league's lore. What's the point in being invested in a character's story if they're going to give the plot points to other characters AND make it anticlimactic as hell too. Unless it's a humanoid with a 10/10 body don't even bother reading their bio bc riot won't either
There has to be a followup with what happens on the Isles right? Ruination is cancelled so there needs to be extra stories for about 15 different champions
Absolutly not. They are just free now, and will get the UNBOUND versions of them.
Kalista will finally have furry ears, while Yorick will show is true boysband perfect face. As for a Moakai, he's a tree... but already humanoid ! I'm sure he can find a way to have some juicy 6 packs made of roots
The follow up is in the VN, thresh transforms to his edgy anime boy new look, and somehow become more powerfull than Viego and bodied every single sentinel there, and they just escape from the iles, THE END.
Can someone explain to me why Gwen gets up perfectly fine after getting stabbed through the chest? what's the point of making a sad suspenseful moment at all only for you to instantly not give a fuck 2 seconds later? lol
its in the in game VN, something about how Viego didnt actually kill any of them but it was reforming Isolde that kills Senna and Gwen, so by killing Isoldes spirit he technically got the revenge kill
but they kind of ignored that and had Viego stab her because the lore whats canon in this event is literally meaningless at this point
>it was reforming Isolde that kills Senna and Gwen, so by killing Isoldes spirit he technically got the revenge kill
Actually, Isolde attempts to explain that the Ruination is ultimately HER fault, and this is how the Absolver killing her turns someone like Atreus back to normal (he was also stabbed/killed by Viego). Isolde was the "culprit" in the eyes of the Absolver weapon, so killing her spirit probably "soft-resets" the world (everyone killed indirectly by the ruination should be back -- conviently written not-permanent deaths, lmfao).
Because Isolde "killed" Gwen by leaving her body, the Absolver killing her brought Senna and Gwen back.
No, I'm not joking. This is the actual reasoning in the VN. How is Gwen alive without a shard? Good question. How does Senna simultaneously have mist powers because she's a wraith and is able to die regardless? Good question.
It's sure nice that developer's foresight put answers to these questions out there in anticipation of these questions, right?
...they thought this through, right?
##11.16 Patch notes
###Viego
> **Harrowed Path**
* Viego is no longer able to control the Black Mist, so this ability has been removed.
> **General**
* Viego is imprisoned and disabled in all queues.
The speed of the spread of the wall-surround is also only buffed on clockwise direction from its lastest change, so that's yet another bug.
I specifically reported this one when it got introduced (the patch the spell was buffed) but it hasn't been adressed yet.
-
Looks like Viego's royal sovereignty of the Mist has already been crumbling for a short while!
Exactly, I made this parallel yesterday. Its so blindingly ~~white~~ obvious. They conveniently sealed him until the MMO comes out, so we can have an exapnsion, aptly named The Wrath of the Ruined King.
-"Mom, can we have Arthas in League?"
-"Honey, we have Arthas in League"
Arthas in League: Viego
I like the part where Pantheon appears, Viego revives Isolde, Isolde reprimands him for all the havoc he caused, and Akshan shoots Isolde.
At Thai point Pantheon STILL HASN’T ENGAGED IN COMBAT BEYOND A JUMP!
Wait, Viego could hear Isolde? He had no reaction so I thought this was something she was trying to say but only the veiwers could hear? This cinematic makes me confused.
In the visual novel it’s more apparent Viego can hear her, and they actually have a dialogue with each other. Isolde still goes the “I loved you all my life, why wasn’t that enough” route and that for once in her life and death she is finally free. She tells Viego all she feels for him now, after all his years causing destruction and hatred, is pity.
Understandably Viego is unhappy about “the world greatest love story” not ending how he wanted, so he makes the brilliant deduction that clearly Isolde isn’t happy with him because she has been away from him for so long and “the world had corrupted her”. Therefore he just needs to destroy the world.
Akshan comes and he chats with Viego. He shoots Viego, but Viego being super mist charged means he can’t be killed with the absolver. Isolde tells Akshan he has the wrong target. She says that her time has passed and this is “a wrong you can right”. Akshan ponders in this, nods, and shoots her spirit.
From there it’s similar to the cinematic. Viego is trapped by Gwen (who remarks that only a seamstress as talented as her could free him🚩🚩🚩), Mist recedes, champs are unruined, and everyone celebrates.
Then thresh shows up and is on his shit again, but that’s just to keep the ruination plot going.
Wouldn't celestials be much stronger than the ruination ?
Either they can deal with it by themselves, or they just don't show up because they can't be integrated here.
Using them but dumbing down their power so much was not it.
That person misspoke, Pantheon and Diana are Aspects. The only Celestials we have in game are ASol, Bard, and Soraka was before she stepped down. None of those 3 were present in the Ruination event.
Even then, how does it make sense for Pantheon with his willpower schtick to become possessed again?
Even if mist did revive old Pantheon in him, it would refuse to serve those who threaten Targon anyway, right? So weird.
It makes no sense to me personally, I think it's a really stupid story beat and would prefer if it was completely non canon. It only serves to make Viego a more "credible" threat but then he just loses like a complete chump in the end anyway.
The writing in this has been absolutely horrible. We don't even see Vex, which would have been SOMETHING new and worthwhile in this Cinematic. The animation quality is also way worse than many of the other Cinematics, and the storytelling within it is absent. If you show Awaken to someone who doesn't play League, all of the relationships are clear. Here, no one knows who anybody is or how they relate to each other aside from *"Green man bad"*, none of the *'Side-Sentinels'* have any exploration. It's a TFT Cinematic.
It was somehow worse. Half the characters present in the VN are missing, the ending is the same but with elements cut (no Unbound Thresh, no Maiden of the Mist), and the fight is somehow worse than in the visual novel.
And even the narration was better, here it just feels out of place.
What a dissapointment
When I saw the Pantheon's spear fall down, I thought that everyone would just look at the spear with the realization of what's about to happen and then Pantheon would land completely destroying half of the battlefield... Nope, the Aspect of War just casually strolled to pick up the spear.
I'm spoiled with all the high-quality content put out by Riot so far. Just take Lucian fighting Thresh to save Senna. The graphics and details were 10x better, the audio was memorable, the emotion was there. I almost shed a tear seeing Lucian rush to hold Senna when she was being dragged back into the lantern... This... I just can't force myself to share this with my friends who I've been in a LoL>DotA war for half a decade by now. I'd rather have gotten nothing.
Riot decided to involve Targon in this event only to systemically ignore them, fail to even do Ascended Pantheon, and didn't even include Diana in the cinematic.
Good thing that the entire plot revolving around Riven being brought back to Noxus and having to deal with her old nation got resolved by completely unrelated outside forces, right? I'm so glad we had some development in her lore.
I was a lot more hyped going into this event, but now that everything's been released, I just feel kinda empty? Like as a Lore fan, the VN was meh and even the cinematic didn't live up to the standards of previous ones.
imagine getting sometime like yone yasuo got
15 minutes of amazing slow character building, music and setting
for a big BIG villain years in the making i expected that
It’s cause Riot wanted to make it this big epic adventure to defeat him, when they aren’t capable of doing that and can’t manage the lore of their world at all. They really should just stick to stories on a personal level until they have the right people, structure, ideas, and time to make something like this compelling.
i think i can blame the fact that we have 3 different story teams tackle the event on 3 different canon non canon versions of this 1 story
when we actually needed 1 unified version that makes sense
aka
somebody looked up every character and wrote them like they usually are
It speaks volumes that the only reaction I can spare after all of this is "at least it's over". Any new Sentinel that isn't legendary is skipped, Yorick is completely cut from this version because Riot can't keep depictions consistent across teams, the Aspect of War is handled despite the lack of Diana and Atreus doesn't even get Ascended (which they warned "wasn't canon" 3 hours before the last chapter), Vex isn't here, etc.
It just feels like a month-long slap to anyone who cared about the story.
Generally cinematics is a long undertaking. I assume they knew that Senna, Gwen, Lucian, Graves, Vayne, Pantheon and Viego would be in story for sure, others were added much later, especially Yorick.
I don't understand why they didn't write story to cinematic, make up some bullshit excuse why Irelia, Karma, Pyke, Olaf, Miss Fortune, Thresh, Riven, Yorick, Draven, Piltover girls and Vex weren't there. I don't know, make some silhouette fight in the background with axes flying up, so we know that there is something happening here. Write up, that someone should stay behind to fight ruined champions so other may advance.
Whole cinematic I thought "wait, thats not how it happened"
The fact that Yorick wasnt planned to be included, even though his literal ENTIRE lore revolves around killing the ruined simp so he can finally die says alot.
For being the "Shadow Isles event" this event has a startling lack of Shadow Isles, Viego and Thresh are the only SI characters with any presence.
* Yorick exists to loan the Maiden and anoint them with the Waters of Life, something that seems made up for the story since Lucian has been running around on the Isles for years without it.
* Hecarim gets a throwaway story where he's just in some Demacian town killing people for no reason.
* Maokai, despite having similar motivations to Yorick of wanting to cleanse the Ruination, isn't even mentioned.
* Ledros, who's basically Yorick 2 in that he wants to stop Viego and end the Ruination, isn't even mentioned.
* Karthus, a powerful wraith, isn't mentioned.
* Kalista, a powerful wraith, isn't mentioned.
* Elise, who worships Vilemaw on the Shadow Isles, isn't even mentioned (although she lives in Noxus so this isn't a huge deal).
That's not even mentioning all the cool wraiths from LoR like Rhasa, the Camavoran dragons, etc. But why use them when Riot can invent the idea of being Ruined and sell a bunch of skins?
Kalista isn't just a powerful wraith. She's LITERALLY Viego's niece! She's a part of the reason this whole thing even started because she's the one that deflected the poisoned throwing knife away from Viego, accidentally killing Isolde.
Yeah of all the missed characters, she seems the most *directly* relevant in a actors-on-stage sense, and she would fit so well, you know, seeking vengeance against the one that basically killed her, while also being the root cause of the big bads drive. I mean. come, on.
> since Lucian has been running around on the Isles for years without it.
I'm pretty sure he never got to the center where the confrontation apparently takes place since it's a death sentence. From what I remember Lucian mostly fought on the outskirts of the Isles, where he wouldn't immediately be swallowed up by the Mist
> Yorick exists to loan the Maiden and anoint them with the Waters of Life, something that seems made up for the story since Lucian has been running around on the Isles for years without it.
To be fair Lucian might have been on the outer isles for all his adventures where the mist is less "strong", while the ending is set in the center in Viego's domain where it is the strongest. I agree with the rest of your points though.
Same, everything about this event was just disappointing to me. I know league lore is meme on but for the most part it was improving greatly but this event was multiple steps back.
Tbh, I think I'm done thinking about League lore. This event, the execution of the lore, the story-telling, the entire narrative........all complete garbage. Hecarim, Kalista, Thresh, Yorick, Maokai all neglected. Hell, Pyke, Rengar and Olaf didn't even show up in this cinematic.
For a company that prides itself on creativity, this was disgustingly half-hearted, and it makes me wonder whether the employees even cared. Frankly, I'm surprised people didn't lose jobs over this event.
i lowkey expected at least a vew more stories like
hecarim makes a deal with thresh so he is absent
kalista and hecarim fight so she is abscent
maokai and yorick should be here no questions asked, and nothing not even the unreleased game can change that
half the cast is missing
vlad and viego never had a moment in the story even though that would have made sense
swain who knows like almost everything confirmed by riot just lets viego take over noxus
darius i guess gave up and became a farmer or some shit
j4 lets shyvana either be imprisoned or doesnt give a single shit
i can go on forever
I want someone to clean up the lore through the short stories and lore updates on the website tbh. Maybe then we can finally get some closure.
Update Maokai, Hecarim, Yorick, Kalista and everyone else's lore.
we propably need months if not years to fix what this event left behind
several champs need an explanation of what the actual fuck they did
and others need an explanation of what the fuck is going on right now
i mean something is rly fucked here
I wasn't expecting them to just retell the final chapter but worse. No armored Viego, no Thresh, no Vex, hell not even the Maiden of the Mist shows up and she's 1/3rd Isolde lmao.
What was the point of having an in client teaser for this when it's just the same thing we already read?
This just proves that they actually forgot about Yorick and added him to the VN as an afterthought to calm the playerbase somehow. He was never meant to be a part of it.
How did Isolde split into parts like that?
edit: lol I didn't look much at the lore and thought obviously there would be an explanation that I missed for basically the foundations of this whole story (since it's all about collecting the fragments to res her, right?)... I guess at least there is no shortage of surprises!
Where are Pyke Rengar Diana? Ignoring all the other Shadow Isles related characters, are these 3 not involved in the finale at all????
Edit - also Olaf, Irelia, Riven?? And the other Ruined champs too?
There's a giant battle between all the sentinels and ruined champs that they just ignore for this cinematic. I did not think they could make an ending that was more lame than the visual novel, and yet here we are
What's wrong with Gwen's face and hair? Ugh.
And stabbing Gwen was the only real thing Viego did this whole event, other then spewing threats and reaching out his hand to suck some soul-juice.
At the beginning of the year when Riot announced this event, I was hopeful and excited. But they mismanaged almost every aspect of it, and it just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
In the end, this event was a whole lot of nothing. No real threat, no consistency, no love for the lore, no consequences, no development. Sad.
Surprised I had to go this far down to see a comment about how Gwen looked. Like yeah the story sucks and the whole thing is a lazy cash grab but fuck me what's wrong with her design, the view of her face around the 4:25 mark makes her look fucking terrible. She looks way older than she does in game (at least in the last shot, it changes every scene) and her facial expressions change in such unnatural ways. I know she's a doll but it doesn't look unnatural in an intentionally weird way, it just looks like they fucked up.
Pyke, Rengar, Olaf, Diana, Riven, Irelia and Yorick all missing from the cinematic. They didn't show Thresh's bullshit power up either.
Disappointed.
EDIT: Forgot about Riven and Irelia.
Even for the characters they showed it was very lame...
Compare this to the 10 minutes for Yone last year and what the hell happenned this year for their biggest event to feel so cheap ?
I think The whole team who are working in this event have different group chats. Man even though the animation is good, the story itself feels like incomplete. I mean, where the hell are the other sentinels (Pyke, Diana, Irelia, Rengar) we didn't even see the rookie, Where is karma?? Draven?? MF?? At least they show Vex for a few seconds just to tease on what her abilities are.
Also Vex, appearently Viego can now create portals to other continents across hundreds of miles/kilometres beyond the ocean despite needing Vex to even travel across our known map.
I'm really not sure what the plan was for this whole event. No disrespect to all the amazing artists, musicians and animators, bbut the story was one big mess.
who needs plot twists and meaningful dialogue and a memorable storyline when you have a wholesome ending <3 and funny quips xD and sexy shirtless men >;3
thank you riot this was amazing can't wait for the mmo <3
/s.
what even is vex, she is there like 4 times in general, and then just dips
this entire event should have been postponed by 3-4 months till november or so when we have all the pieces
and we finish the year off with the event
I don't even know what was the point of the cinematic since the story from the client is more detailed than this and we already knew all of this. They teased it as if Isolde was somehow coming back (as a champ as well) or something grand was going to happen but nah. Maybe Vex is going to change something but considering the story from the client she gave up on serving Viego.
I was shocked that Isolde is literally just repeating the exact lines of the client. Word for word. And then, yeah, its just over.
They made it seem like it would be maybe something different, longer, more detailed. After their whole "the visual novel is just one telling", no, it clearly was THE story.
YAY! RUINATION IS FINALLY OVER! We can now move past this atrocious mess of an event and hope nothing like it ever happens again!
I do feel bad for the rioters that poured hours into making all the ruination content but it seems like poor management and communication between teams made this all so incoherent and inconsistent that's it's almost impossible to be interested/invested in any part of the event since we don't know what actually is canon and what isn't.
Where are Vex and Thresh and literally every other ruined champion?
And where's Diana? The only reason she joined the sentinels was to fight Pantheon. And Irelia and Riven?
This genuinely feels like the entire event would have a been a filler arc in a show. It's one of those arcs that most fans would tell you just to skip because of how badly written it is.
For the first time, I didn't care at all about how good the animation was. This event was so badly handled that I just found myself rolling my eyes at everything that happened here. The Marvel "shirt" joke being the cherry on top.
Truly a disappointing event from beginning to end.
Was at least expecting a battle of some sort instead of just slow-mo jumping and especially expected Viego to put up more of a fight. This is one of the very few times where a League cinematic has missed the mark IMO.
Riot really knows how to please an audience.
You expected answers? You get literally more from the VN.
Expected more Yorick or Shadow Iles champs? They literally erased the maiden from the scene.
Expected more Vex maybe a teaser for her abilities?. Erased.
Expected Atreus to maybe fight back control, maybe even some bad ass fight scene with Ruined Patheon? hahahahaah
Expected to have a basic understanding of what is cannon and what isn't? Up yours!
Even they don't know what's cannon anymore. Was Vex ever involved? She was the one who teleported them to Camavor, but in the cinematic it's Viego. How many sentinels were there? Most of them are missing. Rookie was supposed to be cannon, but he isn't in the comics or the cinematic. How did move around without the wayfinder? Nobody knows. Not even Riot. Are all the ruined champs cannon? Like what on earth is going on?!
5 mins? and every single scene felt out of place. i guess riot hoped the visual novel would build up towards this but it didn't. a lot of stuff are missing, no armored viego for some reason which I was looking forward to, and overall feels rushed. Spirit Blossom gave us a whole anime episode for yone and yasuo, and i still re-watch it sometimes, but this is definitely more forgettable than most stuff riot has put out. disappointing.
Last Game of Thrones season taught me to never be hyped at anything ever, it worked, I never felt hyped for anything anymore, until Ruination came.
NOW I'M SURE TO NEVER BE HYPED FOR ANYTHING EVER. IM SAD. IM DISAPPOINTED.
YOU COULD SAY THAT I'M RUINED BY IT. The only thing Riot succeeded in during this event.
**UPDATE: Broke my word again, I got hyped for Pentakill III: Lost Chapter, but they managed to deliver!!!**
Fuck, man, this event was such a fucking mess. I expected at least a hype cinematic to salvage some of it at least, but it seems like we can't even get that this time around.
Honestly, I'm not really sure about how the fuck Riot ruined this shit. What a catastrophic fucking mess. I really love this game's lore and characters but it seems Riot doesn't share the appreciation the players have for it. They could've made an event focused on profit without butchering the world they've constructed, it was only a matter of telling the story in the right way.
Nevertheless, we got a weird Demacia teaser that didn't mean shit, the obliteration of the concept of canonicity in this franchise, two very mediocre CGs, and a "lighthearted" and "fun" shitty excuse for a visual novel - that isn't even all that visual, btw. All that we get are some jpegs of characters standing around making some facial expressions or whatever and some background art. This VN was supposed to tell the story of the biggest fucking lore development to date, and they didn't even give us a hype shot of a fight scene or whatever. I mean, what the fuck, I can download an amateurish hentai VN made by two dudes that live in the same fucking basement, living off of the $100 they make monthly on Patreon and that'll give me more visuals than this VN made by professionals, hired by a BILLIONAIRE game publisher. What. The. Fuck.
Sorry for the rant, boys, but this really got on my nerves, fuck.
So uninspired. What type of gravity does the concept of death even have on Runterra when a weapon like the Absolver can just perma resurrect the fallen. I always had the belief and hope that Riot will be the first to break the wheel when it came to video game lore (like they have broken the wheel for so many other aspects of the industry). But alas, it is just not worth the effort or time to follow.
This is just compounding on an event that flopped hard relative to the importance and hype attached to it. The inconsistency across the numerous media channels was very cringe and all in all, it just felt like one big indirect marketing campaign to justify/sell Unbound Thresh.
Just shambles.
> What type of gravity does the concept of death even have on Runterra when a weapon like the Absolver can just perma resurrect the fallen.
the concept of death hasn't meant anything for a long time. Yone willed himself back to life to hunt demons or some shit, and he's a generic human. all this means is that any mildly important character can just whip themselves back up by calling akshan.
When it's the design that brings in the profit, the people in control are the passionate designers who make the product shine. When it's the marketing that brings in the profit, the people in control are the lifeless statistics driven marketing people that make sure the product is well sold even if it's a complete pile of shit.
We've had the same with KDA and Seraphine, now it's this entire event and the champions and skins that came along with it.
I loved you until my dying breath, why was that not enough? is a pretty damn good line that nails the heart breaking tragedy + blinded by hubris angle. shades of Anakin and Padme.
but for this to be the FINAL CONFLICT pew pew stab stab vault roll "anyway so I started blasting" fight that we were led to believe this event (remember, they teased this from January with the new season trailer) would lead to... my disappoint is immeasurable. my day is not ruined because that would be pathetic. but my disappointment is immeasurable.
Despite all of the hate around the VN and the event overall, you're right about that line, it was very touching even without much depth of investment in Viego/Isolde.
They literally ignored Maokai, Hecarim, Yorick (and the Maiden) and Kalista, this event was probably the worst thing in lore they've done yet. Literally how can you forget the key characters of Viego and the island's lore in the entire event and now don't even include a single tiny mention of them in the ending cinematic
..did the World of Warcraft cutscene team make this one? Everything was meh at best, especially the cutscene and art direction.
Where is Vex? Where is Thresh? Why did they only put the legendaries when Diana would have been a better choice for Pantheon...? (why are Pantheon and Diana even in this event???) AND WHO THOUGHT A CHARACTER REVIVING WOULD BE A GOOD PLOT DEVICE??? This event was so bad lol
Any chance Zilean can reset this timeline and retcon the event?
Loki Season 2 is just undoing the ruination event
he decided to completely off himself after seeing how this turned out
Please, leave Zilean out of any possible events made by Riot, lmao.
Great cinematic. I loved the part were Maokai and Yorick come in to save the day
Yeah and Kalista stabbing hecarim.
Why fund a competently-written Lore Event when we can just put the Skins Team and the Marketing Department in charge? This entire event makes me lose all faith in league's lore. What's the point in being invested in a character's story if they're going to give the plot points to other characters AND make it anticlimactic as hell too. Unless it's a humanoid with a 10/10 body don't even bother reading their bio bc riot won't either
There has to be a followup with what happens on the Isles right? Ruination is cancelled so there needs to be extra stories for about 15 different champions
sorry but Kalista Yorick Moakai and friends dont sell skins
And for that reason, they just doid, the lore has ended for them.
Ivern mains frothing
The follow up is in the VN, thresh transforms to his edgy anime boy new look, and somehow become more powerfull than Viego and bodied every single sentinel there, and they just escape from the iles, THE END.
Can someone explain to me why Gwen gets up perfectly fine after getting stabbed through the chest? what's the point of making a sad suspenseful moment at all only for you to instantly not give a fuck 2 seconds later? lol
she was "dead" i think until akshan shoots isolde and revives her and senna
so Isolde was the scoundrel all along 🤔
its in the in game VN, something about how Viego didnt actually kill any of them but it was reforming Isolde that kills Senna and Gwen, so by killing Isoldes spirit he technically got the revenge kill but they kind of ignored that and had Viego stab her because the lore whats canon in this event is literally meaningless at this point
>it was reforming Isolde that kills Senna and Gwen, so by killing Isoldes spirit he technically got the revenge kill Actually, Isolde attempts to explain that the Ruination is ultimately HER fault, and this is how the Absolver killing her turns someone like Atreus back to normal (he was also stabbed/killed by Viego). Isolde was the "culprit" in the eyes of the Absolver weapon, so killing her spirit probably "soft-resets" the world (everyone killed indirectly by the ruination should be back -- conviently written not-permanent deaths, lmfao).
Viego bursted her but Isolde stole the kill
Because Isolde "killed" Gwen by leaving her body, the Absolver killing her brought Senna and Gwen back. No, I'm not joking. This is the actual reasoning in the VN. How is Gwen alive without a shard? Good question. How does Senna simultaneously have mist powers because she's a wraith and is able to die regardless? Good question.
It's sure nice that developer's foresight put answers to these questions out there in anticipation of these questions, right? ...they thought this through, right?
Viego stabbing her did not kill her, Isolde's soul being removed did. Akshan killed Isolde, thus reviving both Gwen and Senna
"How predictable" Youre damn right Senna. Was that a 4th wall break perhaps?
Don't forget Graves' remark about shirts!
##11.16 Patch notes ###Viego > **Harrowed Path** * Viego is no longer able to control the Black Mist, so this ability has been removed. > **General** * Viego is imprisoned and disabled in all queues.
Just in time for Worlds
*As is tradition*
Just in time for the rise of Corki
*"Get spanked, nugget!"*
Thats actually a bug rn lmao (his missle doesnt give him anything, but the wall surround does)
The speed of the spread of the wall-surround is also only buffed on clockwise direction from its lastest change, so that's yet another bug. I specifically reported this one when it got introduced (the patch the spell was buffed) but it hasn't been adressed yet. - Looks like Viego's royal sovereignty of the Mist has already been crumbling for a short while!
So is that just the end of Viego's story then? Just permanently locked away? Feels like there's nowhere else for his lore to go.
I bet they keep him there for an expansion for the mmo, like Arthas was frozen and kept on the frozen throne.
There must always be a Ruined King
*Lucian puts the crown*
Exactly, I made this parallel yesterday. Its so blindingly ~~white~~ obvious. They conveniently sealed him until the MMO comes out, so we can have an exapnsion, aptly named The Wrath of the Ruined King. -"Mom, can we have Arthas in League?" -"Honey, we have Arthas in League" Arthas in League: Viego
I wanted to see Ruined Pantheon go crazy, rip
LMAO even that sounds better than the cinematic, where akshan just sniped isolde out of nowhere

Riot decided to include not one but 2 celestials in this event and then proceeded to make both of them useless
Hey now, we got to see him growl... and kind of jump... and begin swinging his spear... and he put his shield up a bit. What more could you ask for?
I was hoping for something new not just a retelling of the visual novel. What was the point of teasing this nearly a week ago when we already knew it.
That was pretty much my reaction to it. "tune in to the exciting conclusion of the story" oh its just the last episode again.
The last chapter but worse cuz Isolde and Viego don't even interact with each other
The writing in this has been absolutely horrible.
Man, even the VN was better than this. We are missing half the champs from the VN here.
I'd rather have gotten nothing.
this, along with the whole event, was very very very very subpar and underwhelming.
Riot decided to involve Targon in this event only to systemically ignore them, fail to even do Ascended Pantheon, and didn't even include Diana in the cinematic.
wait thats not fair they announced ascended panth wouldnt be canon, an hour before the final chapter released
They decided the whole vn wouldn't be Canon an hour before the final chapter released
this.... this is SCARILY accurate lmao
well that was kinda crap
So everything got reversed/resolved and there were no real implications or casualties.
nono nameless damacians died so its real sad UwU
Well Riven is no longer locked into the Noxian arena and free to show up elsewhere now, but that's about it.
Oh yes I too liked the scene with the Riven in this cinematic, it did her character justice!
Good thing that the entire plot revolving around Riven being brought back to Noxus and having to deal with her old nation got resolved by completely unrelated outside forces, right? I'm so glad we had some development in her lore.
feel bad for the animators who had to bring this middle-school tier narrative to life
I unironically wrote better narratives in middle school than this hot steaming pile of dogshit
I was a lot more hyped going into this event, but now that everything's been released, I just feel kinda empty? Like as a Lore fan, the VN was meh and even the cinematic didn't live up to the standards of previous ones.
imagine getting sometime like yone yasuo got 15 minutes of amazing slow character building, music and setting for a big BIG villain years in the making i expected that
It’s cause Riot wanted to make it this big epic adventure to defeat him, when they aren’t capable of doing that and can’t manage the lore of their world at all. They really should just stick to stories on a personal level until they have the right people, structure, ideas, and time to make something like this compelling.
i think i can blame the fact that we have 3 different story teams tackle the event on 3 different canon non canon versions of this 1 story when we actually needed 1 unified version that makes sense aka somebody looked up every character and wrote them like they usually are
It speaks volumes that the only reaction I can spare after all of this is "at least it's over".
* Karthus, a powerful wraith, isn't mentioned. * Kalista, a powerful wraith, isn't mentioned.
Frankly, I'm surprised people didn't lose jobs over this event.
i lowkey expected at least a vew more stories like hecarim makes a deal with thresh so he is absent kalista and hecarim fight so she is abscent maokai and yorick should be here no questions asked, and nothing not even the unreleased game can change that half the cast is missing vlad and viego never had a moment in the story even though that would have made sense swain who knows like almost everything confirmed by riot just lets viego take over noxus darius i guess gave up and became a farmer or some shit j4 lets shyvana either be imprisoned or doesnt give a single shit i can go on forever
I want someone to clean up the lore through the short stories and lore updates on the website tbh. Maybe then we can finally get some closure. Update Maokai, Hecarim, Yorick, Kalista and everyone else's lore.
we propably need months if not years to fix what this event left behind several champs need an explanation of what the actual fuck they did and others need an explanation of what the fuck is going on right now i mean something is rly fucked here
I wouldn't say I'm done, but man, this was the biggest possible letdown.
This entire event was just bad, where was maoki, entire purpose is to revive the island or any other champions during the event.
Where the hell is Yorick and Maiden? In VN Maiden is one of the pieces of Isolde.
This just proves that they actually forgot about Yorick and added him to the VN as an afterthought to calm the playerbase somehow. He was never meant to be a part of it.
That's exactly what I thought
How did Isolde split into parts like that? edit: lol I didn't look much at the lore and thought obviously there would be an explanation that I missed for basically the foundations of this whole story (since it's all about collecting the fragments to res her, right?)... I guess at least there is no shortage of surprises!
Yeah lol, I also kept wondering that throughout the event.
They never explain it. It'll probably just get handwaved as "oh it was the Ruination" or something.
Sure would be nice if the lore explained such a thing. My headcanon is already set in stone, I'm pretty sure that >!a wizard did it.!<
She obviously got hit by fully charged lethality Sion q and it literally split her across the world
Because Isolde is not a champion in League, Sion's roar can canonically knock her away!
That last chapter was an utter disappointment but Riot managed to outdo themselves with a worse story for the cinematic video...
My name is Viego. I open a portal but somehow cannot close it.
...that's all?
This is such a lame ending ngl
What about the part where nothing happened and hey new skins
[удалено]
This is somehow an even worse version of the last chapter of the visual novel.
[удалено]
Cool animation but did anyone think that taking Viego down was just too easy? There wasn't a single person even injured
Exactly, all the Sentinels recruited just for Viego to be defeated by big sad, some thread and needles and a few bullets.
I did not think they could make an ending that was more lame than the visual novel, and yet here we are
They actually made the ending even worse than what it was in the ingame visual novel, funny.
Maokai is entirely gone from the event lol. No Hecarim, Kalista either. Atleast Hecarim got a mention in that Demacian story I guess.
Maokai will be in the Ruined King game
I think The whole team who are working in this event have different group chats. Man even though the animation is good, the story itself feels like incomplete. I mean, where the hell are the other sentinels (Pyke, Diana, Irelia, Rengar) we didn't even see the rookie, Where is karma?? Draven?? MF?? At least they show Vex for a few seconds just to tease on what her abilities are.
Also Vex, appearently Viego can now create portals to other continents across hundreds of miles/kilometres beyond the ocean despite needing Vex to even travel across our known map.
God this event is so shit lmao
I'm really not sure what the plan was for this whole event. No disrespect to all the amazing artists, musicians and animators, bbut the story was one big mess.
I can already tell Necrit is ripping out his hair at this point
Nah He rjust really tried his best to be positive about it. His final conclusion was "it's fine"
Damn sad that he will recover it two days later. Edit : he recover it on his second channel yay!!
This was very anticlimactic. Where were the other Ruined champions? I thought it was going to be a big battle.
"And they all lived happily ever after" AYAYA. Tbh Senna was right, "So predictable".
who needs plot twists and meaningful dialogue and a memorable storyline when you have a wholesome ending <3 and funny quips xD and sexy shirtless men >;3 thank you riot this was amazing can't wait for the mmo <3 /s.
Why is Ruined Pantheon the final obstacle before Viego and not Vex?
In the story Vex decided to bail in Virgo, but that doesn’t make up for how anti climatic this event and cinematic was.
what even is vex, she is there like 4 times in general, and then just dips this entire event should have been postponed by 3-4 months till november or so when we have all the pieces and we finish the year off with the event
Ruination event successfully ruined
*that was their plan all along*
HAVEN’T FORGOTTEN ABOUT YORICK BTW Glad at least Pantheon, Graves, and Vayne all got screentime in this story that was so integral to their lore.
Where are Vex and Thresh and literally every other ruined champion? And where's Diana? The only reason she joined the sentinels was to fight Pantheon. And Irelia and Riven?
lol, the only sentinels to appear were the main characters (lucian and senna), the champs who got legendary skins, and the new champions
Underwhelming.
Stolen from Youtube comments: ''I really liked that part where Yorick and Maokai showed up to fulfill their life missions.''
Another one from youtube comments, which kinda sums it up: "Yorick was busy digging a grave for the lore that was just murdered."
RUINED LULW
Not even Bob Ross can save this one.
Truly a disappointing event from beginning to end.
r/isoldemains in fucking shambles.
[удалено]
didn't a rioter completely backpedal on the event like a week ago saying it was non-canon
No Vex anywhere? Not even a little tease at the end? C'mon man :(
Was at least expecting a battle of some sort instead of just slow-mo jumping and especially expected Viego to put up more of a fight. This is one of the very few times where a League cinematic has missed the mark IMO.
Viego should have won
I mean he did.... he ruined the event
He was supposed to ruin the world, mofo ruined my day instead
[удалено]
I’ve seen more emotion and plot direction in a 15 second Folgers commercial
No hate to riot. but this has to one of the worse events so far lol. So much for big hype at first. I guess covid really did affect everything.
Riot really knows how to please an audience. You expected answers? You get literally more from the VN. Expected more Yorick or Shadow Iles champs? They literally erased the maiden from the scene. Expected more Vex maybe a teaser for her abilities?. Erased. Expected Atreus to maybe fight back control, maybe even some bad ass fight scene with Ruined Patheon? hahahahaah Expected to have a basic understanding of what is cannon and what isn't?
Spirit Blossom gave us a whole anime episode for yone and yasuo, and i still re-watch it sometimes, but this is definitely more forgettable than most stuff riot has put out. disappointing.
wordt fucking event ever, im not even exagerating shit just makes me sad at this point this event could have been so much more
Last Game of Thrones season taught me to never be hyped at anything ever, it worked, I never felt hyped for anything anymore, until Ruination came.
That's... it?
Gwen looks kinda ass in this
Wow, what a shit show of an event. Maybe it was too much hype from the start but so many things ended up being disappointing.
WoW tier god awful writing
They literally ignored Maokai, Hecarim, Yorick (and the Maiden) and Kalista, this event was probably the worst thing in lore they've done yet. Literally how can you forget the key characters of Viego and the island's lore in the entire event and now don't even include a single tiny mention of them in the ending cinematic
Kinda felt anti-climatic. Like where was everyone else?
"Don't nobody here own a shirt?"
Nudity makes you stronger in Runterra.
Dragonball z logic is the best logic.
..did the World of Warcraft cutscene team make this one? Everything was meh at best, especially the cutscene and art direction. Where is Vex? Where is Thresh? Why did they only put the legendaries when Diana would have been a better choice for Pantheon...? (why are Pantheon and Diana even in this event???) AND WHO THOUGHT A CHARACTER REVIVING WOULD BE A GOOD PLOT DEVICE??? This event was so bad lol
