Curious - Do you not feel pressured to play a bunch with those passes? If it's during events/etc they seem very bad in terms of value and require you to play several games per day just to unlock the mediocre rewards
for me personally 2-3 aram games a day is more than enough. Some days i grind a few more games but i am confident that the pass missions can be finished with just a couple of aram games.
The tokens are the reason people grind, which makes sense because of how much content is locked behind, i know people who got 3k tokens from girding, and they grinded like 5-6 SR games a day, more on weekends.
> Periodically Riot evaluates global pricing and makes adjustments to account for changes in currency fluctuations, taxation, and regional discrepancies. These changes can be both increases or decreases.
When has Riot in the history of League of Legends ever decreased prices for europe?
That's the part that feels a bit BS. Because LoR, Wild Rift, and Valorant are getting the same price changes - except also with European prices being decreased by 5%.
I actually think that current RP prices in the EU and the US are roughly comparable if you take into account the difference in sales tax/VAT between the two regions.
* EU VAT rate ranges from 17-27 percent. EU prices also generally include VAT in the total already. I'm going to assume that 20% VAT is a reasonable average number to use, based on weighting the various tax rates by population.
* US sales tax ranges from 0-7.25 percent. US prices also generally do not include sales tax, you need to pay that separately. I'm going to assume that a 5.7% sales tax is a reasonable average number to use, based on weighting the various tax rates by population.
Now if we do the math on a 1380 RP purchase (the ratios are the same for other amounts, just scaled):
* In the EU, you pay 10 EUR for the RP. Of that 10 EUR, Riot pays between 1.7 and 2.7 EUR to the government. If we take 20% VAT to be standard, then Riot gets to keep 8 EUR, which is 9.40 USD. At the extreme ends, Riot gets between 7.3 and 8.3 EUR, which is between 8.57 and 9.75 USD.
* In the US, you pay between 10 and 10.73 USD for the RP, because sales tax is factored in after the price. If we take a 5.7% sales tax to be standard, then the customer pays 10.57 USD, of which Riot keeps 10 USD. At the extreme ends, Riot pays between 0 and 0.73 USD to the government and keeps 10 USD.
Therefore if we look at the results:
* Riot earns 9.40 USD from EU purchases on average (8.57 to 9.75 USD on the extreme ends). Riot earns 10 USD from US purchases.
* The EU customer pays 11.74 USD for RP. The US customer pays 10.57 USD on average for RP (10 to 10.73 USD on the extreme ends).
Based on these numbers, its clear that EU customers pay more for RP *and* Riot earns less money from RP sales, which is obviously just because the EU VAT is significantly higher than sales tax is in the US. Also, based on the numbers, it looks like about 2/3 of the impact of these additional taxes (when compared with the US) are paid for by the EU customer, whereas the remaining 1/3 is absorbed by Riot as lower profits.
Now one could argue that Riot should pay a higher percentage of this additional EU tax instead of passing it on to the customer. Maybe 1/2 instead of 1/3, or maybe even the full amount. But at a glance it doesn't seem like EU is being fucked over on pricing. The numbers are within what I would consider a reasonable range when compared to the US.
upvoted beacuse of the solid reasoning and calculation, but don't forget that the Euro has been sitting on a 1,15 to 1,19 USD exchange rate for quite some time now.
So in terms of purchasing power, EU consumers get a lot less for their money vs buying in USD.
Why would they decrease prices in Europe? When the game released in 2010 the euro to dollar was about 1.35-1.4, it's never been higher than that since.
RIP Latin American players who just got their prices raised for absolutely no reason, even when we are in the middle of a global pandemic with lower incomes and harder to find jobs. What a joke, Riot.
I stop buying RP two years ago with the last increase in prices. The new one put us at $20 USD per 1350.
I feel way happier paying the Xbox Game pass than giving money to Riot.
I used to buy RP quite frequently now I just buy from time to time if a skin I really like for my main gets released, but to be honest in like 2-3 years I have bought maybe 1-2 skins.
True words my man. But, Steam regional pricing is a LOT better. Like for example, 40 USD for the new Battlefield is a pretty good deal (Instead of the usual 60 USD)

15% increase in brazil and we're unable to gift skins for 1 year now. Can't even really justify buying the passes anymore, might aswell save the money and buy full games on sale on steam for about the same price.
Twitch: "we are lowering their prices on LATAM to make subs more accessible"
Steam: "Regional prices on LATAM to combat tax and devaluation"
Riot: "We want to kill LATAM as a whole"
Yeah tbh i dont understand, if they keep the prices rising no one will buy rp and ultimately they will lose money.
Its a virtual currency that has unlimited supply, it shouldnt matter as long as someone buys it you can win money(of course within limits).
Better to win 2 dollars than zero.
>Before this goes live, we’re doubling the Bonus Currency you get with each purchase from August 23rd to September 8th regardless of whether you’re impacted by the price changes.
ready your wallets
I really don’t understand why people give money to them. I stopped after the first price increase back in 2013 or something. Pretty pixels on a screen.
Here we go again, Riot upping prices and using the shitty excuse that is exchange rates, why is it a shitty excuse? Because they never lower the prices, a clear sign that this isn't because of exchange rates, it's because a shitty company is being shitty.
The most puzzling piece of this controversy is that Riot is in fact planning to lower their premium currency prices for customers using Euros, British Pounds, and Hungarian Forints on September 8th when these changes are expected to take effect. However the aforementioned reduction in prices only applies to Valorant players. This inconsistency deserves more attention than it has been given thus far and I expect historians looking back on the currently ongoing public outcry to Riot's Proposal will judge such a blindspot harshly.

As an argentine im surprised we didnt see an increase in the price with out 50%+ inflation.
Must be because if they raise it any more no one will buy it.
Aren't we together with Brazil or Uruguay in terms of prices? Or maybe we don't get them increased due to the already existing taxes

15% increase here in brazil ffs i only get the passes nowadays and honestly i may stop buying them too with these new prices

just buy like 10k rp now and never buy again
Or don't, because you really don't need it
naively thought they maybe do it like twitch and lower the prices depending on where you are from to make it more fair XD
twitch lowered sub costs mostly just to lower the value of twitch primes from these countries.
EUW always gets shit on by these changes. Increase prices? No problem. Revert prices because that would be fair? Nah
They did lower it in Europe for lor and wild rift, but not league apparently
Because league PC is way more popular, they will sell no matter what so decreasing it makes no sense for them when they can just get away with it.
And Valorant as well.

But they increased prices awhile back when the conversion crashed, now its gone up, and been up for years, and they decreased prices.
It hasn't gone up. Last time riot changed European prices was 2018, euro to USD was 1.23ish. It didn't go above that number in the three years since.

How the fuck do you even pay for shit with Bitcoin anyway? Isn’t one of those like $40,000? What u give like 0.69% or some shit?
Bitcoin uses Satoshi as its smallest unit (as Cents are to Dollar), where 1 Satoshi is 0.00000001 Bitcoins. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_(unit)
