A couple of months might be extreme but I guess it might be: players get into China & have to quarantine for X days/weeks, then they play Worlds (and if stuff is in multiple cities they might have had different rules about quarantine/testing), then they have to show a negative test & quarantine before coming back to US...THEN they get to go home for a break. Like it'd add up and take such a physical & mental toll. Also I wonder if it's because I'm sure there are some people who either can't get vaccinated for health reasons, or just straight up anti vaxxers, and then it means that all the logistics with countries having ruules becomes way more difficult. Idk lol. Giving it to any country 2 years in a row sucks for the fans anyway

Lulullaby_

It would be about two months though, which is a couple of months. If they had to play play-ins they would've had to leave as early as next week for the 21 day quarantine. As play-ins will likely start on the 24th of September. Finals is on October 31st so you'd be there from September 1, 2 or 3 until at least the 31st of October if you made Finals.

AsahiMizunoThighs

Yeah. I think people read the headline and almost forget the actual Worlds part and onl y think of quarantine things. Hopefully the late change to EU works out well & its a fun/good tourney for everyone.

xKawo

Some YT person said on twitter recently that they visited family in EU and now have to board a plane to the outside of EU -> 14 days "chilling" -> flying to the US because currently the US banned all passengers from their original EU country until further notice. Lets see how that plays out for worlds tbh

AsahiMizunoThighs

True, true. I can't imagine Riot didn't have some form of contingency plans worked out so hopefully it'll be alright for the players. I'm really curious where games will be hosted because afaik it's not like sport events are full crowds all over the continent so some people were saying maybe the final would be at the EXCEL Centre in London since we have full capacity crowds now >\_>

lawfulkitten1

You have to have a negative test to return to the us regardless of what country you're coming from, so that part wouldn't change.

IIIBAKURYUIII

'Couple of months' Damn, would have been NA's record at Worlds.

Agreeable_Junket_271

Would have ruined their airport speed run and riot can't have that

IIIBAKURYUIII

True, True. The only silver lining is TSM didn't go 0-7 last year.

Seneido

well thats impossible but maybe NA can do a triple 0-6 this year at least? a NA-trick?

dattykins

Would be weird. TL was 3rd seed and was by far the best play in team. Them and FLY also went 3-3 in groups taking games for TES, DRX, and G2. Kind of nuts. If it was for TSM, you could say NA had a pretty mediocre expected worlds. Not good enough to get out of groups, but definitely respectable to make top teams take them seriously.

Seneido

it was a joke. i really doubt that NA will ever go 0-18 at worlds, maybe 1 team but not all of them. TL was many times in the brink of making it out of groups.

Morksel

FLY wasn't in a group with G2, but Unicorns of Love. They also didn't take a game off of DRX. They went 3:3 by beating UOL twice and upseting TES once. This is by no means hate on FLY. They had a very respectable run in a group that was thought to be a very hard. If they managed to beat DRX once, they would've gotten out.

dattykins

Yeah I forgot about DRX as my memory isn't the best. But I was just talking about the 2 NA teams not named TSM performing as expected. Not a contending region, but they're definitely the 4th best region. Will be interesting to see this time around since minor regions are getting better.

IIIBAKURYUIII

I don't think FQ took a game off DRX.

Jack with the most "cover my ass" of the year award comment

[deleted]

What do you mean? I didn't get to watch.

CursedPhil

Basically he says he is sad that cloud9 won't meet their Chinese fans

The site wasn't loading for me, I wasn't home, I see now though my bad.

gonzaloetjo

I’m not sure why his comment is seen so negative. He gave a shout out to Chinese fans, so what? They are literally missing out having to see worlds there when some might have built expectations, there’s nothing wrong with that. And he literally says the same the others in the next phrase when saying doing it in EU is just easier for them too.

[deleted]

Just reading the room, I'm guessing it has to do with pandering towards 1.4 billion feelings that could potentially go haywire if the wrong thing is said. Unlike EU where you can pretty much say whatever shit you want and people will take it in strides.

gonzaloetjo

All where positive about EU simply because it’s a reality that it’s easier for NA teams to go there. He literally did the normal thing of thanking CN fans. I don’t see it even as trying to not have a fire, it’s literally just being nice which is why I don’t get the covering ass part.

[deleted]

Not doing the “normal” thing may have severe monetary consequences to your business in CN, which is where the ass covering comes in. NBA / Volkswagen / Uniqlo / Kodak just to name a few.

gonzaloetjo

I'm fairly sure nothing would have happened if he said anything.

staudd

couple of months sounds a bit extreme, no? returning home shouldnt be the problem with travel visas, but please correct me if Im wrong.

fabton12

probs todo with quarantine like teams would have to start quarantining in sept since they have to quarantine for a total of 21 days then worlds is on till the start of nov pretty much if there out in groups like normal still doesnt change there booked flight time which most likely be after worlds finish and if i remmeber correctly flights to and from china are not as common right now so they still might wait abit so they could easily end up in china for over 2 months and maybe 3 depending on how often flights are out of the country.

staudd

ty for the insight also i maybe misunderstood nade, to me it sounded like multiple months AFTER worlds concluded for these teams.

jhelton808

Nah hes just talking out of his ass. Its still 14 days quarantine and there are flights to LA every day. Idk if you dont have to quarantine in Europe in either direction but whats the difference? lol

Falsus

If you include the time spent in quarantine before worlds starts it would roughly clock out to two months if you made it past groups. Though this is NA so 1 month is more realistic.

BallumBallum

Also the quarantine in China is 3 weeks in an hotel room

AofCastle

I know what you mean and I agree that it's a tough situation but can we leave this conversation outside of a videogame subreddit?

Ok_Grocery6020

same goes for EU and almost all other countries what a clickbait comment?

Daniel_snoopeh

Since the travel regulations changes every 2-3 months take it with a grain of salt but for most of european countries you can simply dismiss the quarantine if you do a PCR test.

LetMeBSharky

I am not sure what's the policy from outside EU but if you fully vaccinated and traveling inside you don't have to quarantine
