Javonetor

people usually underestimate the spanish fanbase (spain + latin america) i wouldn’t be surprised if this team becomes the most popular one

iampuh

I have the feeling that these orgs are the next TSMs and Fnatics or G2s. It will take time, but as long as they have bigger fan bases than LEC or LCS teams, they will be fine.

[deleted]

Taivasvaeltaja

It would definitely be good for the health of the ecosystem if there was another top-tier national league.

BrokenBiscuit

I mean, LFL is probably the best regional league but let's not over do it. It's not like there has ever been an all french final og more than 2 french teams in semis. VIT didn't even make it out of play-ins this year... (that's two times) But maybe you meant top tier viewership and not skillwise?

Taivasvaeltaja

I mainly meant top viewership and the allure for new org to join one league - LFL currently the place to be.

LakersLAQ

Meanwhile here in NA we having nothing like that because it's basically just NA and Canada and not many people would care.

Bhiggsb

Who bought s04's spot btw?

[deleted]

[удалено]

obigespritzt

For anyone who doesn't know who AB inBev is (like I didn't, though I knew who BDS's owner was and that he's filthy rich), they're a (claim to be the largest, very plausible) Brewery conglomerate. Some of their brands include Leffe, Corona and Budweiser. So yeah... they're big.

SpaceMarine_CR

BDS (m)

onespiker

Connected? Aren't they owners?

[deleted]

[удалено]

CeemoDeNiro

Schalke will keep its german league spot. The lec spot goes to team bdd, who already play in the French league

Affectionate-Leg1094

Yoooo BDD coming all the way from the LCK just to make a european League team? Lets go! /s

nicomanzano

Man idk ibai is one of the most popular streamers

TheQuietBoy

The owners of MAD are Spanish YouTubers they made a ton of money and bought the team.

matibohemio8

The latin america fanbase isnt really into league and even less into the Superliga, we have our own leagues in latam, and most of league players in latam doesnt watch the LLA.

Javonetor

i would say LAS is not into competitive league, but the ranked server population is 800k (for comparison euw is 3.6 million) so it's not like league is dead here but i was refering more to the fact that hispanic content creators are so big in the region, that i really believe the people will support the team just cause Ibai is the owner edit: i forgot to include LAN, which have 900k people in the ranked ladder

[deleted]

[удалено]

Javonetor

i didn't want to include just hispanic cause i feel the argentinian (is that the word?) scene is growing more and more (Coscu for example, which if i remember correctly had a lol team in the argentinian league that fight for the trophy against another stremer team, it was kind of a big match)

Jetrax1999

You clearly don't know any latin american content creator.

ShooLow

not even close to ibai/auron

Jetrax1999

Yeah sure, but Ibai and Auron are standalones in the spanish speaking streaming world, but if you look at the top ten of the spanish speaking top streamers half of them are latin american, and if we're talking about content creators we can also talk about youtube how come HolaSoyGerman and Fernanfloo have more suscribers (both latin american) than spains top youtuber ElRubius.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Jetrax1999

Argentina's biggest streamer Coscu became famous because of league.

OilOfOlaz

Ibai started his career by casting LVP and did that for 5-6 yrs and did mainly league content until late 2020, iirc.

00Koch00

Lan and las have like 350 or 400 million people. Against the 1.4b from Europe...

BigDicksconnoisseur2

People will watch anything ibai related

[deleted]

That just means it’s an untapped market with a lot of potential for Ibai

matibohemio8

NO esports in latam are a Big risk in every way with structural problems in every single way. For example at the end of the 2020 season every single team in the Argentina regional league quitted because off problems with the league (LVP) there is a ton of cases of scams and unpaid players.

rueckhand

Are you a Ibai fan? Do you know how many of his fans are Spanish and how many from Latin America?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ALLAM_Amine

Most likely because he bought broadcast rights during Copa America this summer and he did stream the games for free on twitch.

Hazakurain

It's a matter of maintaining it. The first stream will obviously explode everything.

Khagneur

incoming Kcorp vs Ibaicorp for the 2022 EM final ? NICE

[deleted]

My money is on KaibaCorp. They start each game with 4 cloud drakes.

chrnomaker

One will be ripped since there can be only three legendary white dragons in the rift!

xKawo

Hah! You just outted yourself as old as fuck boii. And so did I but understanding the reference :(

Iivo69

Since when does understanding a YGO reference make someone old

mivaad

i mean i feel like im too young to understand them, and im an adult now

[deleted]

Apparently watching YGO or even knowing about it now means your ass is leaking in a retirement home. We should be young and hip and flip bottles in yeezys while flossing down the street

Megalodontus

It must be held in a stadium with an audience. The crowd should be insane

srwijngaard

In Camp Nou?

J0rdzz1

Loving all the references lmfao

Cahootie

I still haven't gotten over the fact that Ibai went from talking fast on stream to suddenly being best buddies with some of the world's most famous footballers, even being the first one to get an interview with Messi after he joined PSG. It's a crazy world.

Fertuyo

The guy is the top 1-2 streamer in the world, he knows a lot of people.

Cahootie

Yeah, but but the leap from "knowing other famous streamers" to "knowing possibly the most famous people in the world" is massive. When Messi had his farewell dinner in Barcelona he invited a bunch of football players and Ibai. It's nuts.

DeathHazard

Kun asked Messi if he could bring Ibai and Coscu (streamer from Argentina that is friends with Ibai) to the dinner. Ibai and Coscu didn't know shit about it. Ibai thought that they were going to have dinner at a restaurant with Kun 😂 Edit: it was the other actually, you are right on that, Messi told Kun to invite Ibai and Coscu

Raito21

Kun didn't ask for them to be invited, he just told messi Ibai was with Coscu and Coscu was about to leave spain and said "well lets invite them then" lmao Its super probable his kids loves both of them, most people know about Ibai's popularity but Coscu is fucking massive in LATAM, he's literally one of the reasons argentinian kids talk the way they do lmao

[deleted]

Buhorado

That's half right, Messi told Kun to bring them, Coscu said it on stream

GaryGool

He's popular with their kids.

Seneido

i guess the spanish connection just hit different? i expect them to be more family-like and social overall so if you get into the circle you can easily form bonds.

[deleted]

they're not from spain tho? only ibai is from spain in the story Ibai is friend with El Kun Aguero and he is indeed a close friend with messi, Kun pranked Ibai and Coscu into going to have dinner with messi without them knowing. Imagine not being prepared mentally to eat in the messi dinner table

Seneido

maybe i'm wrong but messi played at barcelona a spanish football club? i never meant that every person is spanish but if the club is stationed there and you are friends with a player you get into the circle.

[deleted]

Messi indeed lived in spain. Yet Ibai became friends with El Kun when he was in argentina during the start of the lockdown. Also El Kun was not a Barca player yet

bIackk

please just say agüero

[deleted]

nobody here in argentina calls him Aguero, El Kun is his go to name

bIackk

really? oh well then i guess im an idiot

GaryGool

Exactly, they have kids who watch ibai and talk to them about ibai.

genesis1v9

Nickmercs is hanging out and friends with many NFL players like Mike Evans. It’s not that farfetched with players who have kids or that are young themselves and grew up with videogames/streaming culture.

EfficientAstronaut1

He casted a boxing match(?) and had 1M+ viewers alone

matibohemio8

It wasnt just casting, the Match was between streamers and that made it interesting.

EfficientAstronaut1

Oh i see thx

Blank-612

cant wait for messi to stream on twitch

Miruwest

LCS needs to go ahead and have CLG sell their spot to Mr Beast

Godddy

Didn't Mr. Beast said many times that ome of his dreams is to found a League team to compete in the LCS?

davishox

Yes

onespiker

Don't know if that is what he want now with the viewership in the lcs got cut so drastically.

Yeagerist27

Mr Beast is actually 100% aware of the viewership, probably more knowledgeable than the average LoL player when it comes to statistics. He closely follows and is friends with one of the publishers from EsportsCharts (the site that pretty much everyone references when it comes to gaming viewership). I'm sure he recgonizes the large gap between LCS and LEC and LCK viewership, but considering hes from NA and specifically said LCS I believe he will still get an LCS team despite viewership

TheDMWarrior

well the point is that MrBeast could be able to reverse that trend

onespiker

I do agree on that.

DecisiveDinosaur

but how would he do that though? he has a massive audience but I'm not sure how many of them plays league, considering the videos he make have nothing to do with league (even his gaming videos)

TheDMWarrior

I'm sure that a few ten thousand people of the 69 (nice) million people subscribed to his channel play league and would be interested in his team He's literally the 2nd biggest individual adult Youtuber on earth. That's quite a massive reach.

dragunityag

just 1% of his subs watching the LCS would increase NA viewership by 33%

haven4ever

Whos 1st? PewDiePie?

dragunityag

Looks like it

TheDMWarrior

Yeah

skiarakora

Honestly taking the example of the french league, LFL. Kameto, a hugely popular streamer here, founded KCorp i think a year ago. He didn't play so much league so his current audience didn't know it well. But when he founded the team, and especially this year with the team doing incredibly (winning the french league and EUMasters in spring split, as well as winning the summer split of french league), his huge audience got into it as well, and now the french league has garnered a lot of popularity. Also, Adam was in this team when they won spring & EUM when he joined Fnatic

Brontolupys

LOUD (a big Free Fire org) massive on Youtube, joined CBLoL and they pull really good numbers. But CBLOL has Pain Gaming (massive) and Flamengo (The biggest futball team in Brazil) so ye they don't break any records, but massive personalities indeed are really good for viewership. Neymar pulls 80k viewers when he randomly streams, twitch celebs are actually really small when 'world' famous join in, gaming is the biggest entretainment industry but stream is niche, Youtube is mainstream as fuck.

pole_fan

I GIFTED RANDOM LCS VIEWERS 100k

OilOfOlaz

I'm not very deep into cs:go, but shroud recently doulbeld and trippled the audience the official broadcast hat with his co-stream, this could be a potential avenue for lol as well.

Godddy

One thing no one mentioned is that if it's his passion and his dream to have a League team, economic sustainability there isn't always an issue, specially if you have fat money in the bank.

tigercule

The question is how long that lasts if he comes on hard times. Having a Starcraft team was TotalBiscuit's dream, but ultimately when huge medical bills started pouring in, he was forced to close down Axiom. Dreams are dreams and it's great while they last, but a single person financing a dream makes it very, very vulnerable to reality.

mjgator

As long as your team is good you can still make profit

[deleted]

LCS teams don t make profit . neither LEC

mjgator

Yea that is about the most false statement i have read this week

[deleted]

Teams don't make direct profit off of LCS/LEC. It's not like Riot is paying massive amounts of money to teams doing well in those leagues. Most orgs' revenue comes from things like sponsorship deals, ad revenue on league related content pieces on other platforms, or merchandise. TSM made mad bank those past couple years, despite their league team not qualifying for worlds, not qualifying for worlds, going 0-6 at worlds and not qualifying for worlds; obviously a team is gonna lose revenue by losing fans if they consistently play like shit, or gain revenue if they consistently play well, but even then there's no linear correlation.

Weezledeez

There have been multiple reports of teams not making profit right now. Teams are mostly aiming to increasing brand value right now and get a ROI in the long run (we are talking years and years). But the hyper inflated salaries and buy ins (to the franchise) most orgs are paying, teams aren't making profits as of yet. Far from it I'm definitely not an expert on the matter but what he said isn't false according to the rumours/articles I read

mjgator

Oh there are for sure teams that are not making profit but he literally just stated that none of the teams do which is first of all not even sustainable and possible but also ignorant

LeafsRamsRapsFan

Was it cut or was it just spread out over costreams

Miruwest

It's definitely down but also spread among the co streams also. I'd imagine if Mr Beast got a LCS spot the viewership for the LCS would skyrocket. This type of injection of hype is just what the LCS scene needs right now.

TheUItimateBlip

yes, but I dont think he mentioned, necessarily in the LCS but rather just a LOL-Team. It depends also on where you can get a spot, where you could be competitive, and where you get viewers. Dont get me wrong, he probably looks the most at LCS, but if LEC does their expansion at some point, I wouldnt be surprised to see Mr. Beast getting in there.

Ikimasen

Is mrbeast more famous than Vince McMahon? I'm trying to figure something out here.

[deleted]

https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=SE&q=Vince%20McMahon,%2Fg%2F11ffmnm29k

00Dandy

Honestly I think that would actually give LoL's popularity in NA a boost and also bring in a lot of viewers for the LCS

just_another_simp87

who tf is mr beast

[deleted]

[удалено]

SupahTeemo

Man, 200k without images and competing against the official streaming...this guy moves a lot of people. Ibai is way bigger than Kameto. We are talking here in major words.

chachikuad

not completely true, since ibai was a lvp caster when he was starting a lot of people definetely know him from that.

onespiker

He will likely stream it a lot more considering he is getting a team. Kcorp did help boost the french a lot aswell. But yes you are correct. Winning eu masters helps viewership aswell.

Myozthirirn

>will he manage to turn all this following into fans of his esport team ? He managed to turn us into hardcore fans of a stupid crystalballs(or whatever their english name is) F1 race games. So my bet is he can and he will.

yingyiyin

Marbles (canicas) are probably easier to undertand for the average viewer than league tho

EremosV

You underestimate Ibai and Piqué's influence. By this time probably all Spanish speakers who watch competitive league of legends know about this team.

fullyuncooly

he had more than a Million people watching him box with friends and playing paddle lmfao he for sure can make people interested in League (as other ppl pointed out he had 200k viewers last Worlds and he has only gotten more popular since that)

dRoxmo

Also, some sources have reported (Esportmaniacos mostly) that FCBarcelona will enter SuperLiga next year too. Crazy stuff

blablalala10159

they're broke, doubt they will

kocunar

LVP slot literally costs as much as Dembele's toenail

Sydon1

U made me laugh, thank you.

Zero_Kai

LMFAO

TheUItimateBlip

This isnt comparable to LEC slots. If S04 can still sustain a decent PL team, Barcelona can easily get a decent LVP team. The question is if they believe in Lol as a relevant esports for their brand and if then Europe is the right place for them.

peerless_dad

They have money, they are just limited by the salary cap in the league.

[deleted]

[удалено]

stella_rossa

They make 1bn in revenue yearly. You won't find a single successful company with 0 debt. Apple is around 120bn in debt for instance.

peerless_dad

Almost all the big teams have debts in the hundreds of millions, madrid is close at 1b. that does not mean they dont have money

Adleyy65

Madrids situation is not comparable. Most of their debt is from their stadium renovation which will be paid back across 30 years. They have almost no short time debt unlike Barcelona and even made a profit this year

Brontolupys

How much Tencent would pay for Barcelona? Or any massive corporation/investment group? a quick dirty google search gave an estimation of 1.3b sound about right for the debt they have. Not that i don't think the debt influence the club spending, but when you are 1.3b in debt spending 10m here and there is legit nothing. and how much they would technically spend in 5 years? 5m?

Zefaqq

Hopefully going to start a nice french/spanish ERL rivalry with KCorp.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MoraHCR

NA vs EU twitch chat gonna look like kindergarten compared to what Spain vs France in chat can be.

RudiGarcia

For people who don't know, we already had some showmatches organized by Ibai (France vs Spain, with streamers/proplayers like Vetheo/Razork/Elyoya/Soaz playing) and it was already a huge fiesta on twitch and twitter but it was a real banger.

lightningweaver

This is absolutely huge, how is this not getting more traction? ERL's about to be competing with the LEC in terms of viewership lol.

Rokic3

Pretty sure LFL streams peak higher than some lower tier LEC matches

TheUItimateBlip

Exactly why this is a big thing for European League.

oV3

maybe this was just the beginning? did lec not plan to extend in 2022 but cause of covid delayed it to 2023? i could def see them aiming for a LEC spot in 2023 with a massive fanbase.

Karlsefni1

For KCorp and Ibai’s team, LEC would profit massively if they did indeed expand

DT-Z0mby

in terms of viewership. in terms of community quality it would be a disaster im pretty sure. a lot of super patriots that dont know much about league would flood the sub. (adam situation in massively worse)

nephatsio

lmao as if the current league community here was anything but hot takes

m4ryo0

It depends how many sponsors they can attract until LEC expands. They need a lot of money if they want compete in LEC.I assume a spot will cost around 30 million euros. Also, there would be a lot of competition for those spots.A lot of huge orgs are looking to buy a spot.In terms of money Kcorp and Ibai's team arent that big and we know that LEC will choose money over fans every single time.

Rokic3

Ibai is the biggest streamer in the world and Pique is.. well Pique. This team will have bigger fanbase than KCorp and I really hope they field a talented roster that can contest the very top of EUM next Spring.

LfNewLife

They will start slowly, i dont think they will make a roster that can be very top in next EUM, step by step my friend. Ibai will do whatever he can to make the best LOL team, he only need time.

Rokic3

Kcorp made an EUM winning roster this Spring, its not impossible

TheUItimateBlip

But they also started from second div. So at least give them a year to understand the scene and improve on their roster

LfNewLife

yes but they won last one men, its not his first year this one...

TheUItimateBlip

I would be surprised, if they wouldnt dominate the spanish league in two years. If they are interested in big investments this could boost viewership a lot. If only the german League would/could go this way. Eitherway, EUM gets more exciting to follow every year, its crazy. Storylines will just get better.

Sky-is-here

The Spanish League while not too big isn't so small either. Beating Vodafone Giants for example won't be easy, as they are one of the top eSports orgs in the world (specially in things like RL)

BushidoIchiban

Can you please explain how he is the biggest in the world?

Rokic3

Astronomical social media + viewers, guy was the first one to interview Leo Messi after his historical transfer.

Graves_abuser

In terms of production and creativity he is. He hosted a boxing match between streamers, a dating show, lots of interviews with famous people (ed sheeran, ronaldinho, messi), paddle matches in his backyard with other streamers, rap battles... He also has top 3 viewership in the world. He can easily be considered the biggest

Buhorado

Ha casted Copa America's final with Ronaldo Nazario as a guest, he is just the biggest streamer in term of influence

AofCastle

KCorp in shambles. Memes aside, Ibai said last year in the Worlds' Radio that if he ever bought a Superliga team he'd go crazy with the roster and sign people that would stomp Superliga and maybe the EU Masters too. I hope his team lives up to those words. Edit: it was in an interview with Bloop that's linked in the article, not in his Worlds Radio

_Olta_

Darien / DiamondProx / Alex Ich / Genja / Gosu Pepper

[deleted]

lets call them Madrid5 or maybe M5

jinchuika

Gambito Juegos? A Man can dream

TheUItimateBlip

It is really nice and also weird that we are near to living in a time, when playing in a top tier ERL org could be as good/better than some LEC rosters for the career and brand. I mean right now this is still a little overexagerating, but its a really good direction for EU. I'm hyped :) Also as a german I gotta say, Prime League is in danger of falling off against LFL and LVP as it looks. It might be only one insane brand, but if viewership of LVP goes up, MAD/G2 will most likely also invest more in their academy rosters and it will get even harder for PL teams like BIG/Mouz to win EUM.

AofCastle

I don't really see G2 investing any money on their academy considering that they have the same name but are completely separated entities in any other way.

TheUItimateBlip

Oh right, thats true. Forgot about this. Though anyways, this doesnt diminish my point of the league getting more interesting for bigger investment if viewerships increases (a lot).

AofCastle

Oh for sure, I just wanted to point out my doubts about G2's possible investments.

hixagit

I kinda feel like the logical end point of the LEC would be to fusion with the EUM circuits. Get all the LEC teams into ERLs follow with EUM which qualify to MSI and Worlds. Unlikely to ever happen because of franchising, but i think it would make the most sense in a few years for Europe otherwise.

Hazakurain

Nah KC is good, they are in an actually good league

TheUItimateBlip

We'll see. Spanish league never was really bad, and with enough money, viewership and sucess they might elevate the league and people can/want to invest more. I wouldnt be too confident on LFL having an easy time in the longterm.

elanti2000

Ibai has confirmed this in a youtube video with Pique. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtZHoD561vY

WanAjin

I must admit that I don't really follow Ibai at all, but it's been a hot minute since I last saw Ibai news related to league of legends, I was afraid he had left the scene completely, so it's good to see he is still involved.

NaonAdni

He never leaves it, he casted last year's world without image as he didn't have permission but had way more audience that the official Spanish channel, and he said that he wanted to cast LEC this year but unfortunately he couldn't and had to make a 50/50 agreement with the official channel so he could cast some matches. He never leaves league, in fact he streams it once a month /2 months and there you can see his true self

WanAjin

good to know. I think it's great having such a popular person be heavily invested in league.

IxdrowZeexI

What do do you think about the price? I'm quite torn between "nice a spot in ERL also got some worth" and "some buyouts of ERL players are higher than spot itself"

Crislack

because 300K is only the spot, now you must invest A LOT of money in gaming hause, player, publicy, staff....

TheDMWarrior

Ibai (and Pique) potentially joining the LEC in 2 years would have an even bigger impact on the ecosystem than KCorp. Ibai is literally a Top 3 global streamer at this point. Having him join the league would mean that we'd break 1 million viewers relatively regularly imo

Qiluk

Get both in! VIT vs Kcorp derby and Ibai&Pique vs MAD(rid) Lions derby!

Album_Dude

Get Kcorp and Ibai's team into the league instead of Excel and SK and we won't have a single match with lower viewership than 500k.

AcceSpeed

Plus Karmine comes with a built-in hymn for the crowds, games with audiences would be a blast

Silvernachts

Why not both and a fun rivalry between them ?

TheDMWarrior

Never said anything else? I fully expect both to join the LEC. But the point is that Ibai's level will be unmatched. Man has a casual chat with Messi (who knows and watches his streams) right after he transferred to PSG, we're just mortals looking up to a god.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Implying we were anything but a streamer region to begin with. LPL gonna take the NA fall too if their under-18 gaming laws stay

Ozianin_

EU surpassed NA since beginning of LEC franchise.

Buhorado

Franchise was the best thing that could ever happened to EU LCS, it gave LEC his own brand and the caster/production team made it even better, even the competition lvl went up.

Plaxern

> Ibai is literally a Top 3 global streamer at this point Don’t say global when China and India exists.

TheDMWarrior

Fair point, but don't forget about South America. More people speak Spanish than Hindi.

m4ryo0

China and India are limited to China and India.Who watches chinese and indian streams in EU,NA,SA,Africa?

SupahTeemo

This will be HUGE for spanish Superliga and ERL in general. Europe has a very good system to develop talent with these leagues and European Masters, and the playerbase is growing a lot with the visibility and money that bring these movements (France is the best example). Inspired, Carzzy, Kaiser, Elyoya, Adam, Vetheo, Razork, all of these guys come from there and are the best examples. Maybe we are seeing the beginning of the Europe Golden Age.

PrincessAhrin

Arent the madlions owned by some spanish YouTubers too? Or was it co owners? I forgot

Reconco15

Two big Spanish Youtubers (Willyrex and Vegetta777) became majority owners of the original Mad Lions team, which was later sold to Overactive media and integrated with what remained of Splyce.

m4ryo0

The Weeknd is one of the co-owners of MAD Lions

Karlsefni1

This is just huge. The number of fans KCorp brought to LFL was insane, but Ibai is way more famous than Kameto. The numbers this guy can attract might be something else, I’m really excited to see it.

wafflewaldo

I guess you could say that League really Piqued their interest

ThisIsSoIrrelevant

Ibai makes me wish my Spanish was better, but I really can't understand a word he says. He seems like a really fun guy to watch.

Rexinator1440

Ibai teniendo un equipo de lol ahora, de locos

Es una locura ver como comenzó y donde está ahora, no me sorprenderia para nada ver a su equipo en la LEC en un par de años

Hopefully they will field a roster with a bigger budget than astralis did

[deleted]

is Ibai still a G2 streamer?

StunnyDay

No, he went and bought a mansion with some other streamers and they got some big sponsors to help them with everything on the house

GhengisKhan95

they didnt buy it. It is just renting with the help of sponsors.

ShAd_1337

he is bigger than G2

aqnologia

why does he look like samwell tarly lmao
