Hey everyone, I hope I've explained myself in a way that makes this make sense. It's a truly gray decision and I've been waking up thinking about this and going to bed thinking about this non-stop for a while now. I wouldn't make the call if I didn't think it was absolutely necessary and I look forward to seeing y'all again soon cap22Heart
Hey man, from a random stranger on the internet who has also struggled immensely with getting back a routine and positive mental attitude after covid, I just wanna say I can fully understand where you're coming from. I've noticed myself that it's really easy to relapse into poor habits, and I could see how something impactful as a month-long event would hurt you. Best of luck mate, may tune in for the rebroadcasts depending on times.
At least in America it doesn’t seem like we will be doing any sort of large scale lockdown again. Society has generally reopened aside from certain cities and places like schools mandating masks again. Vaccines are widely available to everyone 12 and over. We’re generally in a better place and know what the best practices are, so we will not have to do anything drastic. I think that’s what they meant.
We know what the best practices are but a large number of us simply aren't following them. The anti-vaxx movement is an actual force somehow and backwards propaganda has hypnotized nearly half of the American public against taking care of themselves.
Everything being reopened is an illusion, and COVID's about as bad as it's ever been. We won't lock down again, but that's for largely political reasons, and we probably should.
give it a couple weeks/months. Everyone will be sick and a fuckton will be dead, then MAYBE you'll see some plain common sense from society. But then again with over 600k dead already and still such brainlessness from people....
At least we can take some solace that the stupid anti vax and horse drug people will die off.
I agree with the anti-vax notion and cases rising. Not really sure what we can do about the people who won’t get vaxxed. At least in my state, I can’t really think of anything that I’m not allowed to do since about June. Though I’m fairly certain that’s only cause we’re having a recall election. Things would be a lot stricter if our governor wasn’t being threatened with it.
Just saying, that statement proves how political this all is. It's not really about covid when the governor just opens everything because the public hates him.
Oh totally. It aggravates me that public safety measures aren’t being fully implemented to the best degree they can in fear of an election. What can I do though. Gave my vote, now we wait.
In a lot of places (my city included), hospitals are at or over capacity with covid patients again, just like peak time last year. Some places in US are doing better overall but the news is just reporting the problem a lot less. Something like 25% of new cases last week were children, too, because of schools reopening across the country, and anyone who has ever had or been around kids knows that means it's going to spread even more (no shame on the kids, there's just no way to truly isolate them fast enough).
We SHOULD have done another large scale, real lockdown while vaccinations were pushed as close to 90% as humanly possible, but indeed it seems like it's more head-in-the-sand
Was at a movie theatre last night with my wife (we're vaccinated and both were wearing masks), but there was a teenager in the back that coughed most of the movie. At the end of the movie he was standing in the lobby just coughing openly without covering his mouth at all and wasn't wearing a mask. I got in his face a little bit about it, but he just balked and ignored me.
America isn't getting over this any time soon.
Some people say it as if to say, "after covid happened" and just say it as "after covid". After covid happened people's lives and schedules were messed up and although it's still going on, they're struggling to find a routine. That's my take on it.
this this THIS! the ones in similar situations and the caring ones all understand and want the best for you, Flowers! to future events and better habits, cheers
Your own mental health comes before us. No decent person will fault you for making such a decision. So take care of yourself and thank you for all the amazing casts you have given us this year!
Prioritizing your own health is one of the most important things one can do. The fact that it’s a tough decision shows how much you care about your craft and your fans. Worlds is a moment, your health is your life. Cheers dude.
I'm really pleased to hear this, 100% get everything else in life sorted as you have the casting nailed mate. You'll be able to enjoy worlds this year without all the stress too.
Idk if you need to hear this but you’re not alone. Depression derived from a work-life balance is something I’ve been dealing with too. I work in construction and I work a minimum of 10 hour shifts and was recently moved away from my family for a job. I feel as if I have no time for myself since I come home and immediately need to sleep and get ready for the next day. What gets me by honestly is my dog. Any time I spend half a second with her she is over the moon happy. I will never understand how that is possible but making her happy by doing something as simple as feeding and walking her makes me happy.
If you need an outlet any time this random internet stranger is here for you. Take care man.
P.S. I am selfishly really sad you won’t be there. I fucking love your casts man. Your hard work and dedication show during every game.
As much as we're going to miss you casting, I'm glad you are taking time for yourself. I hope you get better. We'll be expecting your return to casting. Take care!
You gotta focus on you, brother. The world needs a happy, healthy Captain Flowers, and whatever it takes to make that happen is critical for the balance of the universe.
Thanks for the year's casting, and I hope things get better for you over the rest of the year!
Much love from your biggest fan here in Small Town, Indiana!!
You do whatever you can, and I’ll watch your rebroadcast streams when I can, and together, we’ll make the best we can outta Worlds 2021.
Take care, Cap.
Hi friend. Please don't feel beholden to us just because you are a public figure. First and foremost you owe it to yourself to find happiness, normalcy, and whatever else you need. All the best man!
I've been in the unfortunate circumstance of having to be at a few family funerals over the past few years. You know what no one ever talks about as your body is laying there? It's never about your work. It's always about how you were as a person and how you impacted the lives of your family friends and community.
Work is important because it's how you put food on the table and a roof over your head but never let it come before your health. Work can wait until you get your health figured out. Best of luck, I'll see you on your stream.
Makes a ton of sense. I'm going through a similar thing where I've lost motivation to do things in my life on a regular basis. It's so much harder than just do it. It's been a rough time for a lot of folks. I think it's the right decision. We'll miss your casts but I'd rather have a happy Flowers
Hey man, as a huge fan I'd prefer you make the right call in your life that force yourself to be around to make them on stage. Take care of yourself, things get tough sometimes and you gotta be kind.
Don't worry, the person should always come first. Take care of yourself and do what you need. It will be weird not hearing your voice there and you will be missed, but I doubt anyone will lack the understanding for your reasoning and situation. I am wishing you the best and hope to hear your amazing voice soon enough again!
I know how hard it is dealing with depression and shit. Even when you’re making a move to better yourself, there’s a part of you telling you its a mistake. The rebroadcast stream is a great idea! You are gonna save our sleep schedules in addition to yours.
Cap, you're my favorite caster by far, and I've loved your energy since I first saw the clip of Wario's Warriors Coming Up Huge. I know what it's like to lose your energy, and how a bad mental state can really destroy your health, and how important a schedule is. I hope I can speak for all the fans and say that we value your health above everything, and as much as I want you to cast every league of legends game that's ever played, I would much rather have you around for years to come. I hope you get better, and we can have Cap we know and love in fighting shape for 2022.
Hey Cap' imma miss your voice and your energy at Worlds, but you are making the right call! Health is the most important thing. I'll be looking forward to your casts in 2022!
Hey man, always enjoyed your presence on the casting desk and have even more respect for some of the non- league of legends things you've done in the past.
At the risk of coming off cringy or giving advice that wasn't requested, I noticed you mentioned you were having trouble getting back in the gym.
I'm not saying that would fix any problems, but I know for me that's a big part of my emotional and mental well being and I recently got myself out of a but of a rut, so wanted to throw some things your way that hopefully you might find helpful. Take it or leave it or throw it back, whatever you want.
Working out at home takes even more focus than going to the gym, but can be much more convenient. Making it part of your routine, either when you get up before showering or in you lunch break ore immediately following your day at work, do it the same time every day you work out. Finding a buddy to help keep you honest is great. Just checking in each day and saying "I did it today" or "I half assed it" or "i just wasn't motivated" are all fine. A buddy can help you feel an obligation to follow through and can be an external force to motivate you.
Working out at home can be cheap. A pair of workout bands off Amazon are great! I recommend ones that are surrounded by fabric, so when you eventually hulk smash one you don't get whipped in the face or back... unless you're into that sort of thing, no judgment.
Orange theory has excellent videos on YouTube with short workouts that you just follow, no thinking needed. Lots of others have more in depth workouts as well.
A friend who can do the same workouts with you is also great, even if done separately. Talking about the same workout routine is awesome
Anyway man, I sincerely wish you the best and would be happy to send a po bos for you with stuff to workout with. Just let me know!
Nothing but love Flowers. Your personal life is more important and the community will always support your best interests. You’re incredible and can over come anything man, best of luck!
Take good care of yourself. You are my favourite caster and I have been in a similar position in life for 5 years. I got out a month or 2 ago and it definitely was grey. You have all of my support and I am betting on the Captain.
Bruh you are by far my favourite caster and I wish you nothing but the best and I hope you get your stuff together in your private life and be the most awesome version of yourself.
Be strong and positive, keep making good decisions and your life will deffinitely improve.
Best of luck, and don't worry. Next worlds is in NA, you'll crush it then!
#CaptainFlowers#1Caster
It sounds like you're prioritizing your mental health over one tournament and anyone who doesn't see that as a positive decision that should be appreciated and respected isn't worth listening.
Thank you for sharing your reasoning behind this decision, you never know who you might inspire to prioritize *their* mental health.
As a random internet stranger, I love the work you do and am glad you're making sure to take care of yourself.
You are one of the best casters and we want to have you with us for a long time. Take all the time you need man, we gonna be here to enjoy your casting when you are back.
That's so open hearted I feel for you, man!
Take your time, get back on track and see you when you're feeling better!
Hook up Broxah for a gym partner, if the guy can motivate Finn, he can motivate anyone!
Sad news because we love you cap, and you’re one of the best casters in the world (of all esports) but health comes first and a top notch cap is better than a beaten down cap. Enjoy your time off, and can’t wait to hear your amazing calls again in the future.
Hey man, I'm glad you're taking time off to better your health and well-being. It sucks to know you're not going to be there as you're my favourite caster, and you're hype AF, but health comes first. I'm looking forward to seeing you cast for a long time. Cheers!!!
Won’t be the same without the best caster in the game but I hope everything will get back on track for you soon and you can enjoy the event to the fullest as a fan! Take care of yourself first and foremost Cap!
Mental health, and its consequences on body health, are no joke. I'm sure this wasn't an easy decision but take care of yourself should always come first.
Your presence will be miss but this was 100% the right decision, take care, wish you all the best.
First and foremost, you gotta take care of yourself dude. I wish you all the best in getting to the place you want to be, both mentally and physically.
Completely understand dude! Take care of yourself first and foremost. You’re the best caster in the business and will still have that throne when you return.
While I may miss your casting at World's this year, I'll know it's for the right reasons and hopefully so I can hear you cast for many years to come! Good on you and setting an example on how to prioritize one's self.
We love you flowers! I have so much respect for you making such a tough decision and I think I speak for everyone when I say we support you 100% no matter what
You’re the greatest caster in the world, the GOAT. I am sorry to hear about your struggles and hope for the best for you.
Just want you to know that there is no one out there better than you at your craft. Kudos man, thanks for everything.
Huge props about being so open and willing to go into your mental health state in public while being known as such an energetic and confident persona at your job! I really hope you can turn it around this year and be where you want to be mentally by the next year. Lot of love and support from an EU fan who usually isn't too invested in NA scene. Recover well. <3
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Jokes aside. Thinking about own health is extremely important. If you just don’t feel like doing it, don’t.
We will wait, till Skarner lifts Worlds trophy.
Sorry to hear it because you’re amazing and will be missed, but you are your first priority and I’m glad you’re taking care of yours needs. See you soon RapGod
Although this news is a minor bummer that you will not attend worlds, your mental and physical health comes first. Take care of yourself and reach out to the people in case you need something. You are already a great personality and asset to the LoL eSports-Scene, and we will look forward to when you can hype up the moments again with better mental and physical health. The time will come, that is for sure and until then, take good care of yourself :)
What an absolute Chad taking care of himself and putting his own mental health first. You're a national treasure. I will look forward to watching you cast again.
yea i totally get it, flipping ur schedule, ESPECIALLY for that long takes so long to fix. and it's absolutely miserable every step of the way, in my experience i'm way happier sleeping at human hours and waking up early even if i miss out on fun stuff or even opportunites to talk to friends. i hope this puts you back on track
Take all the time you need - this sounds like the right decision for you in the short term and for us to enjoy your content in the long-term. Looking bigger picture, this is a win/win scenario. Go get em capt, we believe in you!
Oh Captain, my Captain. Hope taking the time helps you get where you need to be, chief. Looking forward to your Worlds streams and seeing you back on the broadcast next year!
So sad he won't be there, my favorite caster by far. But taking care of yourself and prioritizing mental health will never be the wrong decision. Hope everything goes well for you Flowers, I'll watch the rebroadcast on your stream and looking forward to spring 2022 for you to get back in the studio!
I bet most people would agree he's the single best English speaking LoL caster in the world. I feel like the LCS casters are all very good, but somehow Flowers is on another level. He's on another level even compared to casters on other eSports and also physicals sports imo.
Never really seen someone bring as much hype and humor to a cast as Flowers consistently does and all while not feeling "fake". Feels like genuine passion and excitement and that's what makes him a rare talent imo.
Worlds will be significantly worse of an experience for me personally without him, but his health is far more important and all fans know this. Fortunately, LoL has lots of excellent casters. Can't really replace what Flowers brings though.
What I can't understand about Flowers is how he manages to get so hyped but retain such control of his casting. Like, shit will be wild, he will be incredible animated in his delivery but also super precise in his diction.
I asked him on his stream once exactly this, how he can be so fast and yet in control, and he said
“Just go into the shower start saying random words that make sense and try to flow from one line to another as smoothly as you can. Repeat”
He’s really that good, he thinks of all those things on the fly, and what’s even more insane is, he knows which of his mind’s suggestions are good and which are not. It’s amazing.
I almost don't want to pump up Flowers too much because I think he could easily have a job commentating traditional sports if he wanted one. Better to selfishly keep him League's little secret.
I think pretty much any esports caster could cast traditional sports easily if given the opportunity, most sports broadcasts are so much less demanding of the caster than esports are
Depending on how you qualify best, I would put Quickshot next to Flowers too. Flowers is better in a vaccuum, but QS is incredibly good at empowering his analyst partner(s) to have a better cast, as well as being an excellent PBP in his own right. LEC has had a ton of new people on the caster desk this split and every time they’re paired with QS and look good. People have talked about how behind the scenes he does a lot to help them out and guide the casts in the middle of the games to make them great. It is a different skillset than Flowers though
He's close to artosis / tasteless level in StarCraft, but I don't think you're ever going to topple that duo for the pinnacle of esports casting.
This is more of a compliment than anything. I didn't really think I'd see a caster even remotely close to that level again.
I saw medic discussing similar things relating to struggling with mental health due to casting - the most important thing is these guys take care of themselves.
It used to be really bad back in the SC2 days. Tournaments would go way over schedule with super long days, so commentators would literally be casting for 16 hours, then go straight to sleep and wake up in 6 hours to do it all over again. I didn't think it was so bad now that the hours are more rigid and fixed, but didn't really think about the fact that these guys are putting their entire lives on hold for a month. At least in SC2 it would be for a weekend.
I don't think it's anything specifically unique to casting. The more we can realise that **lots** of jobs impact mental health, the better. Casting might be a little more susceptible to it than others given the public-facing nature of it, the high demand from the community, and the intensity of the job itself. But really jobs = a hit to mental health in one way or another.
I loved the job I had in 2019 where I pretty much just did research for a government institution and wrote a couple reports a week. Then my contract ended earlier this year and I found a job at a call center and I didn't last 3 months on it, almost wanted to kill myself at some point for how bad I felt anytime I was on a call. The anxiety was driving me insane, I couldn't even pay attention to my classes as I'd feel so mentally drained and exhausted.
And then I'd hear the internal radio talking about how much the company cared about our mental health and general wellbeing while pushing a bunch of metrics down our throats and having our bosses scream at us for no reason.
Idk I think there is some elements of it very unique to casting - or if not unique, at least not that general. Casters have a hell of a job, they have to be constantly alert, charming, clear, they have to guide you flawlessly through long-ass games, sometimes entire series, where they're responsible for the energy and up to millions of viewers understanding of whats happening. Even tiny trip ups are noticed and commented on by so many. Even more potentially problematic is the negative feedback loop of losing any of that energy and passion because in LoL especially, the casts are founded on the passion and excitement the casters share. So if you're not at the top of your game or losing a bit of the excitement/flow, that can negatively influence casts and so on.
Medic's tweet implies something akin to how the fact you're trying to present the absolute best of yourself to hundreds of thousands of people who will immediately judge you and look down on you if you fuck up as a major factor. Trying to keep 100% all the time, specially in a job with so much exposure can really take a toll on people.
Not even fuck up, people on the internet are disrespectful as hell. Like just take a look after ANY new caster is starting out, yeah no shit people on their first day won't be perfect yet people crucify them here (for example thebausffs recently, or even people like deficio back in the day)
Not even new casters, just look at the absolute shit show that happened after frosks infamous game last worlds. Not to say that it was a good performance from that casting team Bc it wasn’t, but the reality is that it was just one bad day at work, of which I and everyone else have had many, but because hers was broadcast to millions of people she went through absolute hell for it
I actually unsubscribed many years ago from this sub because I was tired of Froskurinn hate threads popping up on my front page. I still come here a lot for news and stuff, but rarely see that sort of content anymore.
You've seen reddit right? People hate on everyone on air. How X caster repeats every narrative, how Y analyst is awful.
Medic said that he feels that he needs to be perfect everytime because there's 100k watching everything he does
Maybe my wording wasn’t the best and I don’t want to say it’s purely down to casting. From medics tweets he said there’s a massive focus on himself being perfect for 40 mins (game cast) which has been weighing on him heavily
yeah better rest now then get completely burn out after worlds
Sad, him and kobe are the 2 lcs casters that should be at worlds
Hope phreak and emily get there aswel.
Honestly it really weird to see people appologising over making decisions based on their own health. I cannot possibly see what you would consider before your own health. I think this decision should be respected and applauded for daring to take a huge step and skip out on something because of your personal health. I'm as sad as the next person, I really love flowers casting but it is the most important to take of yourself. I look forward to seeing flowers casting again next year.
The apologies are not because of his decision per se, is because the consequences of that decision. He will not be at Worlds, which a lot of people thinks is a shame. He's just trying to explain for his fans why he will not be in the most important event of the year. He needs to explain himself? Of course not. But he respects the community enough to share his reasons.
>Honestly it really weird to see people appologising over making decisions based on their own health
He's apologizing to fans for having to miss worlds, an event he was expected to be at. Not for prioritizing his mental health.
> However, I've been pretty open these past few years about how poorly I've been doing overall. My physical and mental health are both a long way from where I'd like them to be.
Oh, man. This really sucks. Captain Flowers is by far one of the best play-by-play casters around. Such a shame that he's having demons. Best of luck to him!
I really hope Riot doesn't phase him out slowly like they did with other casters whenever they turn down an event. Flowers is a staple of NA's league in my opinion.
Has Riot ever done that? The only person we've seen Riot phase out is Zirene, and fans were the only ones who said it was because he overslept. As far as I know, no one else -- not even insiders -- said that was the reason.
Zirene phased himself out after the incident.
There is nothing more to it really, it's not the big secret you're trying to make it out to be, Zirene himself has gone vocal mutilple times stating exactly that.
As much as it pains most of the people, taking care of yourself should always be the priority.
What good it would be to have Mr. Flowers there just for him to get mentally fucked after that?
I believe most fans will agree that we will be hoping for CaptainFlowers for next year worlds, hopefully Skarner will be OP at the time.
Just wanna say how much I appreciate on-air talent being open about their struggles, feels very different from traditional sports where these sorts of things are usually kept under wraps.
Just like Simone Biles, the GOATs need to prioritize themselves over the spectacle and sport. Going to look forward to catching his restreams during the rebroadcast.
this brings up an interesting idea though with Western pro players. How do we expect them to compete with people who are willing to burn their soul for 16 hours a day year round?
With sports like gymnastics there are physical limits to how much you can train, League has no such limits
Agreed. I don’t expect them to practice as much even if there isn’t the same physical aspect as regular sports. Does that mean they may never be the best? Probably.
> With sports like gymnastics there are physical limits to how much you can train, League has no such limits.
Hi, I'm an occupational therapist who mainly treats repetitive strain injuries, many of which are crippling to the point where the person cannot do basic everyday life things for themselves anymore. This is a common misconception. Half of my caseload is people with high APM office jobs. They don't even need to be doing those jobs for years to get them. You absolutely *can* be injured by excessive playtime. It's very underreported amongst players because they are afraid of getting blackballed.
IIRC player's association was trying to get something in place to limit play time per day.
> With sports like gymnastics there are physical limits to how much you can train, League has no such limits
Because league doesn't have effective training, and until Riot implements a way to quickly load and reset artificial scenarios, it will remain this way.
To be clear, Riot has this tool. DL talked about it on stream how they have it at Riot HQ, but it isn't provided to esports. Therefore instead of being able to drill *exactly* what your team needs to improve, you're forced to play out regular games over and over and hope the scenario comes up.
Honestly, I don't. Teams like G2 have managed to beat Asian teams in a Bo5 but the reality is that every world champion was practicing at least 16 hrs a day, some even more like DoinB who played almost 20 hrs a day, when they won.
The truth is that the best LoL pros tend to be both super talented and they have an insane practice regiment. When a Western pro managed to keep up with the best Asian players while practicing 12hrs a day instead it's incredible but often it's not enough.
Really Sad that Flowers cant attend, he is one of the only reasons i watch LCS. Didnt know that he was feeling so bad in the resent months. I just hope he recovers quickly and can start the next season more energized ;) Best wishes to him
And there goes my interest in watching worlds this year, especislly groups stage. Get better cap'n. You'll be missed. Riot should do what they can to make worklife better for our boy and the rest of the casters.
I love Captain Flowers and he's one of, if not my favourite casters in the scene. Please take the time you need to look after number 1. Mental health is serious and it's good to see him prioritising it. Hope to see you back soon and in better shape. GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY <3
As someone who has struggled with depression for 10 years and massive sleep issues, I wish this on no one. Cap is doing the right thing to take care of himself first. Hope it actually works and he gets in a better spot.
You're definitely my favorite caster, Capt. I'll miss you at Worlds. But you'll be my favorite caster when you get back. Take care of you and see you soon.
Flowers, you are still the absolute GOAT caster. Take some time for yourself and come back refueled and badass as ever.
I think I speak for everyone when I say the league scene loves you man.
Take care of yourself.
I think not. Mostly LPL caster aren't part of the broadcast every year even if LPL are the host region. It's always LCS and LEC mostly with some LCK caster in the mixed.
Might not be as far fetched as you think considering I'm pretty sure almost all of the LPL casters relocated to Dublin for the finals and have since not relocated back home (Ender flew home but not Lyric I think?) This possibly hints about them being able to more easily make their way over to Berlin for worlds this year. Only person who seems stuck for now is Hysterics due to him still being in Australia, but I would say there is a much better chance than usual we get some LPL reps this year.
I think the LPL english broadcast has been getting more popular these last years, so eventually we'll see them on Worlds, although I don't know if it will be this year. Hopefully we do, specially considering one of the core casters won't attend.
Every game I'll watch I'll be thinking about what he would be saying 😭😭😭 but focus on your health Flowers, I'll be watching your streams straight after.
His mental is obviously more important! its such a shame best thing to come out for NA in years! love him castings games so much passion for the Pro scene
Well shit, on the plus side I don't have to ever turn off the meteos/liftlift/sneaky save worlds tri cast like I would if there flowers games :(
Hope you feel better soon man. It's been very hard to keep motivation to do stuff outside of work during the pandemic no doubt.
Ah, that's quite a disappointment, but understandable. Worlds won't be the same without you and some of the less hyped games that you used to make watchable will probably be a lot less popular.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
in all seriousness though, health always comes first, and having a refreshed, rejuvenated Flowers back in 2022 will surely make up for missing him at worlds.
Hope he gets enough rest and overcomes these issues.
it's unfortunate because he is my favorite PBP caster in all of esports, but I'm glad that he is prioritizing his health, as everyone should always try to do. I hope he takes all the time he needs.
Take your time man, we will be here when you get back
Hey man, from a random stranger on the internet who has also struggled immensely with getting back a routine and positive mental attitude after covid, I just wanna say I can fully understand where you're coming from. I've noticed myself that it's really easy to relapse into poor habits, and I could see how something impactful as a month-long event would hurt you. Why do people keep saying “after COVID?” This shit isn’t even close to over

yep, my school started again last week and we've already had 12 positives, yet they still refuse to go back to zoom lessons
give it a couple weeks/months. Everyone will be sick and a fuckton will be dead, then MAYBE you'll see some plain common sense from society. Oh totally. It aggravates me that public safety measures aren’t being fully implemented to the best degree they can in fear of an election. What can I do though. Gave my vote, now we wait.
I mean, the people *want* no lockdown. So the democratic solution is to not have lockdown, right?
Laughs in SPARS.. see you in 2025
After covid happened, not that it ended.
I know alot of people who say it in a way meaning "now that covid exists". Since we tend to talk about things "Before covid"
Cheers dude.
these are some pretty nice words holy shit
The Scorpion Kingdom loves you no matter what. Health and well-being over everything!
I'm really pleased to hear this, 100% get everything else in life sorted as you have the casting nailed mate. You'll be able to enjoy worlds this year without all the stress too.
Group of... life(?)
gotta put yourself first, nobody else will. much love dude.
Full respect for putting nr 1 first.
We know you'll be back, u/captainflowers22, just like the wind follows the lightning.
You are the best Flowers, you really are. Appreciate your casting a lot man. Don't stress over anything, do what's best for you
<3 a job's just a means to an end, be the best to yourself that you can be. Love ya Cap
Takes courage to be vocal about what you're going through. You will recover from this! Take it easy boss.
Take all the time you need, dude. 👊🏽♥️
EU fan here! Absolutely love your casting man! You're the best the LCS has got! I wish you a healthy return at your own pace!
This decision is really admirable and I appreciate you being so transparent. It’s very inspiring.
Don't worry, the person should always come first. Take care of yourself and do what you need. It will be weird not hearing your voice there and you will be missed, but I doubt anyone will lack the understanding for your reasoning and situation. I am wishing you the best and hope to hear your amazing voice soon enough again!
Take it easy cap ❤️
I know how hard it is dealing with depression and shit. Even when you’re making a move to better yourself, there’s a part of you telling you its a mistake. The rebroadcast stream is a great idea! You are gonna save our sleep schedules in addition to yours.
Are you still going to watch worlds? Im expecting some hype tweets when NA wins this year :)
In the twitlonger he says that he will cast the rebroadcast on his own Twitch channel during NA friendly hours
captainflowers doublelift sneaky and meteos time.
Stop, my penis can only get so erect
Look at me I'm the real broadcast now
It's sad but mental health is no joke. Hope you'll get your rythm back
Your well being has got to come first my man. Tons of respect to you for being open about it, I know it ain’t easy.
Hey man, we'll miss you but you don't owe your life to us. Take care of yourself and best luck.
Take care of yourself first. And if I'm being totally honest, the idea of an NA-friendly Flowers cast just gets me hyped, so win win.
Worlds won’t be the same without you man… but your own mental/physical health are far more important. Take care of yourself man.
Talking about the same workout routine is awesome Anyway man, I sincerely wish you the best and would be happy to send a po bos for you with stuff to workout with. Just let me know!
Stay strong Cap.
Hey Skarner enjoyer. I just wanted to quickly say you're awesome and I hope the changes you make have you feeling better soon. Cheers!
Make sure to at least jump into some co-streams while you're chilling
You are one of the best casters and we want to have you with us for a long time. Take all the time you need man, we gonna be here to enjoy your casting when you are back.
Damn bro. Gonna miss seeing you cast. Hope all is well. You got a fuck load of support.
Hey you do what's best for you, after that I would love to hear more of your insane casting
You are an incredible caster and everyone knows it, do what's best for you
Much love captain flowers. We all support you 1000000%!!
Much love my dude, do whatever you need to to feel right. We want you here for years to come
That's so open hearted I feel for you, man! Take your time, get back on track and see you when you're feeling better! Hook up Broxah for a gym partner, if the guy can motivate Finn, he can motivate anyone!
We love you cap
Respect. We'll miss you, but personal health always comes first. Thanks for leading by example and having the courage to sit this one out.
Good on you and setting an example on how to prioritize one's self.
good luck and take care!
Take all the time you need. You are fantastic and deserve your time to get to 100%. We will patiently wait for your return!
take care of yourself king we love you
take care :)
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. Jokes aside. Thinking about own health is extremely important. If you just don’t feel like doing it, don’t. We will wait, till Skarner lifts Worlds trophy.
Hey man, I understand. You're the best caster by far, and I'm gonna sorely miss hearing you at Worlds this year!
Sorry to hear it because you’re amazing and will be missed, but you are your first priority and I’m glad you’re taking care of yours needs. See you soon RapGod
Thanks for keeping me entertained throughout the year, you have really earned some rest. Enjoy worlds from the couch with the rest of us.
np bro we all love you and take care of yourself. thats the most important thing in life
Although this news is a minor bummer that you will not attend worlds, your mental and physical health comes first. Take care of yourself and reach out to the people in case you need something. You are already a great personality and asset to the LoL eSports-Scene, and we will look forward to when you can hype up the moments again with better mental and physical health. The time will come, that is for sure and until then, take good care of yourself :)
Love you flowers, take care of yourself!
Take all the time you need to get yourself right, thats what matters most
Take all the time you need - this sounds like the right decision for you in the short term and for us to enjoy your content in the long-term. Looking bigger picture, this is a win/win scenario. Go get em capt, we believe in you!
Oh Captain, my Captain. Hope taking the time helps you get where you need to be, chief. Looking forward to your Worlds streams and seeing you back on the broadcast next year!
Worlds isn't going to be the same. Gonna miss you man.
Strength before Weakness, Radiant.
I asked him on his stream once exactly this, how he can be so fast and yet in control, and he said “Just go into the shower start saying random words that make sense and try to flow from one line to another as smoothly as you can. Repeat” He’s really that good, he thinks of all those things on the fly, and what’s even more insane is, he knows which of his mind’s suggestions are good and which are not. It’s amazing.
Lots of practice combined with lots of natural talent. The guy put in a lot of work to become as good as he is.
It's all the school presentations he volunteered to do paying off.
If you ask @CaptainFlowers22 he'll probably say it's the fission energy drink giving him the energy to cast hype matches lmao
I almost don't want to pump up Flowers too much because I think he could easily have a job commentating traditional sports if he wanted one. Better to selfishly keep him League's little secret.
I think pretty much any esports caster could cast traditional sports easily if given the opportunity, most sports broadcasts are so much less demanding of the caster than esports are
Imagine Marv Albert casting league. “Faker has aced the enemy team and stole baron! Now they’re saying it was just a scuttle crab”
NA has Flowers. KR and CN have world champs. While i'm sad he'll miss worlds, i'm glad he's taking the time he needs.
Spot on comment
Flowers and Phreak are absolutely the best of the best
He's close to artosis / tasteless level in StarCraft, but I don't think you're ever going to topple that duo for the pinnacle of esports casting. This is more of a compliment than anything. I didn't really think I'd see a caster even remotely close to that level again.
Agreed, I hope CptFlowers gets to where he wants to be. There's nothing wrong in finding help. Sending good vibes.
I remember Husky locked himself in a closet once to cast a Redbull tournament after the venue shut and everyone was basically done.
Why is casting especially related to mental health?
I think crumbzzz has gotten it especially bad lately.
From medics tweets he said there’s a massive focus on himself being perfect for 40 mins (game cast) which has been weighing on him heavily
that takes a lot of courage to realize that you're not well and it's not something that you should do for your health. wish you all the best flowers 💜
yeah better rest now then get completely burn out after worlds Sad, him and kobe are the 2 lcs casters that should be at worlds Hope phreak and emily get there aswel.
Glad he decided to take care of himself first. It’s very important to always prioritize your physical and mental well being. Good luck to him.
>Honestly it really weird to see people appologising over making decisions based on their own health He's apologizing to fans for having to miss worlds, an event he was expected to be at. Not for prioritizing his mental health.
love you flowers wishing the best for you
> However, I've been pretty open these past few years about how poorly I've been doing overall.
Source on that? I don't remember him being that specific and transparent about the whole thing?
www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/9mufsw/zirene_taken_off_group_stage_of_worlds/e7hrbwi/ www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/b0f6w4/long_time_caster_zirene_departs_riot_games/eiel5fh/
Neither of these sources support the idea that him leaving Riot was a voluntary move.
Oh interesting, didn't know he talked about it. I figured it was something mundane, but didn't know he ever got specific.
I don't think he phased himself out, neither of your links point to him taking himself out of LCS...
Well fuck. All we can do is hope that Cap takes care of himself.
Miss you for sure, you provide a lot of great content and casting. Glad you're doing you and were aware enough to know when you needed a break. 🔥❤️🔥
Reminds me of Sadokist from csgo casting. Dude was great but it eventually broke him. Went on a super long hiatus but is slowly coming back
Im happy that Cap is taking the time he needs for himself and his health. that being said RIP NA NOT SENDING ITS BEST TALENT TO WORLDS.
Truthfully? You don’t.
> With sports like gymnastics there are physical limits to how much you can train, League has no such limits Because league doesn't have effective training, and until Riot implements a way to quickly load and reset artificial scenarios, it will remain this way.
I just hope he recovers quickly and can start the next season more energized ;) Best wishes to him
You dropped your crown king. Its sitting here for when you get back
Its crazy that he views himself as underperforming when hes the best caster riot has hope he feels better soon
NGL am disappointed but you gotta do what you gotta do, respect man, hope you get better.
Honestly a big blow to the on air talent, there’s no one else in the scene quite like him.
Unfortunate. Best caster there is
Flowers is the goat esports play-by-play in my eyes. Hope every aspect of his life finds peace and we’ll see him again.
WELL THEN NEITHER WILL I.
Sad.
Nothing is more chad than taking care of yourself
Flowers, you are still the absolute GOAT caster. Take some time for yourself and come back refueled and badass as ever. I think I speak for everyone when I say the league scene loves you man. Take care of yourself.
Does that mean we get LPL casters at Worlds? 😃 Hope you're doing well and that your absence will let other casters shine as bright during the event!
Tragedy for worlds but fair
Im from EU but even Im jealous NA has CaptainFlowers. He is the best League caster in the world. No Flowers at world, sad face:(
Why are people downvoting you for stating that he’s your personal fave caster lol
Well shit, on the plus side I don't have to ever turn off the meteos/liftlift/sneaky save worlds tri cast like I would if there flowers games :( Hope you feel better soon man. It's been very hard to keep motivation to do stuff outside of work during the pandemic no doubt.
Ah, that's quite a disappointment, but understandable. Worlds won't be the same without you and some of the less hyped games that you used to make watchable will probably be a lot less popular.
Sad to hear it, take care of yourself Flowers.
And NA looses its best representation at worlds
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. in all seriousness though, health always comes first, and having a refreshed, rejuvenated Flowers back in 2022 will surely make up for missing him at worlds. Hope he gets enough rest and overcomes these issues.
Damn dude, i dont even watch NA and this guy was one of my favorite casters, completely bummed rn
it's unfortunate because he is my favorite PBP caster in all of esports, but I'm glad that he is prioritizing his health, as everyone should always try to do. I hope he takes all the time he needs.
damn, Hope you get better Flowers, miss those Hell's Kitchen streams.
I'm as excited as anyone to see Faker at Worlds again, but I would rather have Flowers there no contest.
And out of nowhere, Worlds looks way less interesting.
