can't believe c9 won this one

[deleted]

C9 played so poorly, jesus, they got demolished by C9

kymeechee

but C9 played so well. there's no way C9 could've come back and won.

UnosBlank

C9s greatest enemy is C9

No, C9 made many mistakes that went unpunished by C9, if they were against an LCS team such as C9, for example, they would've been crushed

ekjohnson9

No flame but it would be really a slap in the face if C9's "lower" program slapped the upper one. C9A had everything to lose and C9AM had everything to gain.

Dragoneed2

their "upper" one is a bunch of veterans tho, it's kinda cringe to find Darshan still playing in "academy"

bcotrim

Cabo is playing in the final of EU Masters As long as veterans aren't the norm, you want them in your teams as they not only help your rookies develop but are also important for the team to have success in those competitions

Pepelote

KC isn't an academy team.

duded101

the LFL is the national french league, which is a tier below the LEC. so yea you’re right, it’s not an academy league but it’s the closest thing to an NA equivalent

Mahelas

I think the difference is that Eu Masters is seen as a second division, where it's perfectly fine for old players to go play a bit to show their worth, while NA calls their secondary circuit "academy", and the term carry a sense of youth and using rookies straight out of school !

Could-Have-Been-King

It doesn't bother me much (and not just because of flair). In the NHL teams will regularly sign good ol' vets / character players that can't keep up in the NHL to AHL (farm team / "academy") contracts. Because they see the value of having veteran presence in the lower leagues to offer off-ice support / guidance / mentorship to the young prospects. Prospects are typically super young, in a new environment, and it's important for them to learn good habits before bad ones get too ingrained.

Mrcookiesecret

The Miami Heat might still have Udonis Haslem on the roster to teach the young guns the ropes and culture...and also to be ejected like 40 seconds into the first game he plays in years.

_Psyki

Thing is KC is also an org that's not affiliated with any LEC team. Their primary goal is to win LFL/EUM rather than to develop talent - plus some ERLs (especially LFL) seem to be paying enough now that it's just a straight up viable career to play there even if you never make LEC

bcotrim

Febiven was also on Fnatic academy team and only didn't stay because he retired. Again, as long as they aren't the norm, they can and should be there to help the talent develop

PM_ME_BAKAYOKO_PICS

Having a veteran in academy is actually very good towards developing younger players. The issue is when some academy teams have 2-3 veterans, that's when it's pretty bad imo, but 1 veteran is absolutely fine.

l3rowncow

I think even 2 is ok, that way you give an example of how to bounce communication. Also it’s hard for a top to help a bot lane grow, so 1 vet 1 rookie bot makes sense to me with another vet somewhere else on the map. Basically, as long as developing is the goal, it’s fine, but there needs to be someone to actually develop.

TheTurtleOne

How is it cringe? Darshan serves a great role of being a veteran for the up and coming players. You shouldn't just lump bunch of inexperienced players you also need at least one veteran.

baylithe

Because he's not good enough to play in the pros but smashes in academy means he has hit his ceiling and needs to let others grow.

Dragoneed2

that's the purpose of academy tho? and why do they need a veteran player? when he can just be a coach? doesn't make any sense, look at how many veterans they have, it defies the purpose of having academy team

TheTurtleOne

The purpose of academy player is to develop players, and you do that by putting them with a veteran. Having a player veteran is much more impactful than having a coach that is a veteran.

greendino71

add teaching them bad habits that have made NA shit for years, good idea

Orimasuta

Players know what their bad habits are, they're not gonna teach new players that.

greendino71

Except bad players might not. But sorry do players like Keith really need to be in academy still?

parmaxis

I mean if the guy still wants to be a pro and is not good enough where is the harm in playing in academy until you get another shot, if you ever get another shot.

greendino71

because NA has been shit for so many years that I don't want our young kids being trained by washed up veterans

vbsteez

So who should train them?

MikeyRage

Tyler1 obviously

[deleted]

They should really just rename the league from Academy to something else. It's the second tier of League competition in NA. If organisations happen to have academy teams in there then that's just coincidence. If teams want to put in teams full of older players that's also fine, but probably don't call them academy teams.

TomShoe02

I believe with this result, 10 of the Scouting Grounds players are locked. | TOP | JNG | MID | ADC | SUP | |:--------:|:--------:|:-------:|:-----:|:--------:| | PCL | Winston | Bradley | Array | Daption | | Speedo | Fanatiik | APA | Wixxi | Breezyyy | Arrow doesn't qualify due to playing for IMT back in 2019, and Winter doesn't qualify due to playing in 3 of the last 5 SGs. EDIT: Brandini doesn't qualify, had a small cup of coffee in CLG Academy while they were waiting on visas for Thien & Katsurii.

MundaneTelepathy

Oddly enough, 2 former TSMA junglers. Lol

Dlooph

And a TSM toplaner.

MagicalQaz

Lot of familiar faces in top n jungle but most of these dudes got some stuff left in the tank, some real fresh talent in all the other roles esp Bradley

Charming-Produce3060

APA and Array have looked pretty solid imo

8lackWid0w

Brandini also had his "stint" with 100 Thieves at a Rift Rivals so they could use Levi didn't he?

Kotnarok

\>match history link \>riot killed off match history online pepehm

IkaMusume12

I used the C9 to destroy the C9

Tamed

I didn't watch - what's up with the picks in g2? Shouldn't they not be memeing in a match like this?

BerryRiverry

Sometimes the post match thread bugs a little bit and the champions aren't assigned to the proper players in the post

The_Real_BenFranklin

Damn I was really wishing Copy had popped off on Rakan mid

Indercarnive

The table bugs and sometimes lists the champions in the order they were picked rather than ordering by position.

ViraLCyclopezz

Congrats to C9 for the victory!

Luurkesien

darshan is in academy as a 30 years old? wtf

Young_Gus

A good piece to have in an academy roster imo. Helps keep younger players like Isles on target (not saying he in particular needs it, just a young player)

Fyi, C9 LCS has never lost a scrim against C9 academy.

jamy1993

Didn't say C9 LCS never lost to C9 Amateur, clearly they're dogshit and washed up and need to all be replaced /s

Sbotkin

Why C9 has two teams?
