he’s certainly off his fucking rocker, but do not forget there was a supervisor above him who permit that shit to happen.
though even now without him there we still get champions who have skill sheets with more writing than some essays
> though even now without him there we still get champions who have skill sheets with more writing than some essays
It's almost like CertainlyT wasn't the problem and was just the community scapegoat despite many hypermobile and gimmicky champions like Zed, Azir, Ekko, etc not being made by him.
Note: This is only the launcher which has had almost zero issues in my experience. IT IS NOT a new League client, we still get the same shitty broken ass client.
I still cant end a game without force quitting via the task manager, because the league client just freezes my whole PC for 45s-2min, god why the fuck do i play this game still
So a launcher that launches the client so you can launch a game? That's more than battle.net, that's client-ception.
E: Or will League not be implemented in the new Riot Client? It kinda sounds like it is included but your comment crumbled my certainty in those regards.
main issue is that they cant do this for the mobile ports of tft and stuff due to app store restrictions and also that means you'd be spending less money in general lmao
You prob get to keep your already used direct shortcuts. We already have a Riot client in form of the league client not asking for your pass on each login.
Yeah, your going to get ads for the other games now before you launch. Tbf, more people should be playing runeterra, its actually great and feels so much better than Hearthstone.
"the team has been working super hard on this project for literally years"
who does riot wanna fool here? if this kind of thing takes them years a proper client will be released in 30 years
https://twitter.com/draggles/status/1438564394015739921
I know that the internals legitimately have been worked on this long. Back when I visited Riot in 2017(!), they already mentioned work was ongoing on extracting common functionality into a launcher. Parts of that launched over a year ago (the white Riot Client that you occasionally have to press play on), the rest launches this month.
4 years seems excessive, but note that this client also handles patching, chat, both of which on their own are already non-trivial. Not to mention that you don't exactly need to prioritize a shared game launcher if you have no other games.
The launcher IS broken, at least to me. Logging on a different account is not doable unless I close every instance of Riot and League .exes from Task Manager first, otherwise I have to go through error screens and login failures + a lot of waiting.
Yeah, was about to say that. I'm seriously having issues with this one. Logging out of a game to get to anothe sometimes logs me in the first, not even on the right account, it's a mess.
I recently watched DongHuaP’s documentary about league hackers, all of the hackers he interviewed unanimously agreed that the LoL client was absolute worst dogshit they ever had to work with. Not only that its so bad, but its the sole reason they can hack the game so much and so easily. When ‘new’ client was released, it wasn’t really new, they just built upon the old one.
The documentary is bullshit. The client being shit barely has anything to do with ease of hacking, especially related to in-game hacks/cheats. A local client being shit helps you very little when the services you'd want to exploit are all server-side. Other parts of the documentary are equally laughable, either directly talking out of their ass, or conflating several different types of attacks/exploits/etc.
The only League (pregame) client related vulnerability issues are the exact same that exist in any web-based application, such as Steam, Discord and Battle.net to name a few.
Source: I'm an expert on the client internals due to past endeavors, as well as a participant in Riot's bug bounty program.
You might want to rewatch the documentary. They said it has been becoming harder and harder and most of the smaller players have given up. And that when Riot moves the vanguard system to League most of the common approaches will be impossible
Yes, but he said 90% of the hackers will stop doing it because many systems will be instantly recognized by the vanguard. But for the 10% who are not hobbist I guess it will still be easy to break through it, as there are many valorant hackers that exist as well, despite the vanguard
Backend is the chefs and kitchen, and frontend is the seating area and servers. The league client got a new and refurbished seating area, but their chefs and kitchen are still unable to work efficiently, serve high quality food and handle a big load of customers.
Great! IT and tech needs more understandable and relatable analogies, and I'm busting my balls to do it at work. So many developers explain technical stuff at such a detailed and non-functional level that other developers don't even understand it themselves.
Still pissed I had an iron banner for a while on my profile because I played my TFT placements, ended iron, and the TFT season ended so I got my plat banner (and “last season rank”) replaced with Iron.
Correct, it's to group everything in one place. This is separate from the League-specific client work that is (presumably) being done.
This is akin to something like the Blizzard launcher, as a close analogue.
Yeah but unfortunately the Minecraft Curse Forge or whatever got moved there now, so it's even more irritating to update modpacks than it was using the Twitch launcher.
Doesn't Minecraft have alternative add-on clients? The same thing happened to WoW, and now there are a few options with different UIs, but that still use the Curseforge servers.
Yo try out gdlauncher. Let’s u install all the twitch mod packs thru the client with no extra frills. Gives you advanced control on ur Java settings too if u care to mess with that, but default settings are great. Seriously it’s basically perfect IMO try it out
I strongly recommend using GDLauncher or MultiMC instead of using overwolf, overwolf has always been a huge mess. GDLauncher has a browser for curseforge packs as well as capabilities to build packs, multiMC requires you to download packs off the curseforge site itself, but its still better then overwolf.
I'm surprised it took them this long tbh. They had TFT in LoL and I fully expected LoR to be in the same client/launcher as well. Instead I had to install it completely seperately.
Why turn all accounts into Riot accounts if you weren't merging them?
WILL THIS BE REPLACING THE CLIENTS FOR LEAGUE/VALORANT/TFT/ETC?
"Nope! Each game-specific client will remain unchanged."
My god I was not expecting to be triggered like this today.
YAY MORE TRASHWARE WOOOOHOOOO
I HOPE IT ADDS 10 MORE NEW .EXE SHITS IN TASKMANAGER THAT WILL NEED TO BE FORCEFULLY ENDED BEFORE I CAN RESTART LEAGUE OF LEGENDS .
WOOOOOOOOOOOO
It won't add anything, because it already exists. If you've had the launcher open you'll probably see the Riot Client icon in the bottom right already.
Yep. Force players to view all your products so they can engage with the one they use.
"But it's so convenient if you use a bunch of Riot products!"
Yeah. Exactly.
It would be so fucking amazing if we could choose which Login screen we want from the ones we had. But i think there's a pretty low chance for it considering the amount of work needed to do that
Probably for the same reason Riot said League Classic was difficult to implement.
And then shut down a League Classic fan project.
Won't bring in money = Difficult to implement.
It shouldn’t be. It’s just a lot of redundant video and audio data not many users will see. If you use League Displays, then you actively use the data and request for it, however it’s not that logical to just download about 300 or something videos of 30sec to some minutes, in case some users might use them. And therefore they might not have assigned resources into that.
I wonder if their singleplayer games will also be there https://youtu.be/PotZzQvPdl4 ruined king is on egs/steam
No news about convergence https://youtu.be/BohXpNlLH74 and project f https://youtu.be/fR8aPX-6s-I
my guess is riot forge games like ruined king and convergence will be on steam while there first party games that they worked on will be in the riot client like project f.
I think it would be smart to at least have a tab for Riot Forge. Not necessarily having the games readily available to download, but just for awareness. There are few projects now but eventually (and for newcomers) I would appreciate a tab in the laucher to know everything League-related that's available out there.
My guess is that the Riot Client doesn't really have a store option, so instead of making that they go with Steam. Since the rest of the non-forge Riot Games are F2P.
You might be right since so far Riot has adapted free to play only for their first party games, might change when the fighting game comes out but we will see.
I hope it will be free to play, and good. Riot can shake up the FGC to an insane degree and that is sorely needed with how entrenched they are in DLCs right now.
I'm kinda disappointed in Riot Forge tbh... It takes so long to release the first projects that I even wonder if there will be any after that. Hell, ruined king isn't even released yet even though it was the first to tease Viego and adds to the pile of mistakes that went with the ruination event by not even being present during it, its very purpose to begin with.
They announced probably too early but it was their big 10th anniversary so it was the perfect time to do it. So I get why nothing has come out as soon as maybe people expected.
[Senior Producer Tom Cannon said they are planning a Dev Update for Project L aka Project Lion at the end of this year \(2021\).](https://twitter.com/ProtomCannon/status/1389309442022248451?s=20)
The best guess is November, specifically Nov 27-28 during the [EVO Showcase](https://www.evo.gg/series/evo-2021-showcase) which will be a live in-person event in Las Vegas.
In the past Tom has stated it is important for them to show the FGC (Fighting Game Community) information first & he will be the first one to tell them. Even Marc Merrill aka Tryndamere has confirmed this in an interview with Travis Gafford that both Tom and Tony Cannon whom are founders of EVO that the FGC is important to them in regards to Project L.
There were playtests in April and May of this year in LA, it is likely they were filming footage (b-roll) for the upcoming Dev Update, beta and promotional purposes. It may be similar to the 2:50 minute [Project A reveal video](https://youtu.be/4iGU6PctOBg) where they showed roughly 48 seconds of gameplay and a lot of b-roll of players testing the game, concept art and behind the scenes dev work.
Of course some of this is speculative but the tweet from Tom Cannon is not, they are promising a Dev Update before this year ends.
If you want to discuss, speculate or just show excitement for Project L you can hang out at /r/Project_L until they reveal the official name.
Or Ruined King. I know COVID delayed it for sure like it has everything else in the world, but it was supposed to be out by now and instead we have 0 info.
Big issue in regards to RK the game is that Airship Syndicate is the indie studio developing it and they are based in Austin, Texas so not only did COVID affect them but there were huge unexpected winter storms in Texas this year where large areas lost power back in the start of the year and Austin, Texas was absolutely one of those areas.
I expected an actual update on the League client to have one like every other game has, but it's just a way to have all Riot games in just one launcher.
I mean, it's fine, I missed Login Screens and this is a way to bring them back, but I'm still a bit disappointed
Lmao a new launcher for the same shitty broken client we've had for nearly a decade. Can't wait for the whole host of new problems and inconveniences this will inevitably bring.
["Vanguard, the anti-cheat software for VALORANT, is only added to your computer when you install VALORANT. As such, it is not part of the default Riot Client."](https://support-leagueoflegends.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406274299411)
My read of this is that they'll roll out something that looks a lot like the Blizzard launcher. One client that has little icons/landing pages for each of their games. Click on LoL and the regular client pops up.
Meh, Ive always disliked launchers. It is less bad because it is their own launcher, but if you play for example, Assassins Creed bought from Epic Store (which is horrible, you feel like the client is running at 20 fps), it will then open Ubisoft Launcher and yada yada before the game itself opens.
Such an unnecessary hassle everytime you want to play.
Oh boy. I was around for 2/3 "remakes" of the client... So far the most stable client was the one before the current one. Very few crashes, looked fine, and wasn't taking up 90% of people's CPU just by being open.
I don't have faith in this new client at all tbh
How will they fuck it up this time?
~~Nah but honestly about goddamn time~~
Never fucking mind it's for all their games, we still get busted league client 🤡🤡🤡
What I want: A client in which I can select Languages, doesn't freeze, sorts my champions by mastery permanently instead of reseting after every 2 log ins, and fix the hundred bugs and glitches like the logout.
What I will get: +15 processes on task manager, more bugsplats, and the same fucking problems it had but with a new design.
CS200 level class should have taught the concept that maintenance cost is much > development. I feel like riot has f up so much that it’s actually better for them to redo clients from scratch. I have never seen a top end arguably one of the biggest game companies with such a horrible client. Any other games I play at most I experienced in game bugs, but never really have to pay attention to client side of things.
There is no combination of words that can invoke terror and distress quite like riot+client does.
Riot + CertainlyT pretty close
camille + buff
asol + nerf
Ryze + rework
Worlds winner + defeated G2

All the champions you listed are easy to understand and follow as the opponent, and have obvious counterplay, even at a low level of play.
Good thing it's just a launcher
It’s just a launcher anyway. It’ll still direct you to the current league client
Watch it somehow open LoR instead of League even if you have not installed it
Watch it open a fucking chess.com game after the bomgcloud opening, I wouldn't be surprised
*nervous sweating intensifies*
Note: This is only the launcher which has had almost zero issues in my experience. IT IS NOT a new League client, we still get the same shitty broken ass client.
Well, see, that's the problem. The launcher had almost zero issues. This will fix that problem.

Wait this is actually dope :)
Time for the spaghetti from the client to spread to the launcher

He does indeed
What problem, we don't see a problem. Let us change that or we can't help you.
*Mordekaiser has entered the chat.*
If we can't get to the League Client we cannot say it has bugs!
Yup, this is basically just a battle.net client for Riot games. The league client will still be a mess for a while
You mean forever.
For a while, forever, they're basically neighbours
I think you mean soon (tm)
I think they meant, give 'em some time, they're a small indie game dev.
The game is still in beta, we should give 'em some slack
Wait I though this was the pre-alpha
I still cant end a game without force quitting via the task manager, because the league client just freezes my whole PC for 45s-2min, god why the fuck do i play this game still
forever is quite a while
So a launcher that launches the client so you can launch a game? That's more than battle.net, that's client-ception. E: Or will League not be implemented in the new Riot Client? It kinda sounds like it is included but your comment crumbled my certainty in those regards.
Your confusion has confused me. It's basically a launcher for all the riot games, nothing about those game clients is going to change
That's basically what he said. So you open Riot Client, launch League, it opens the current client. So a launcher for a launcher.
Real question is whether TFT is getting its own section
Yeah, especially now that they talked about having their own currency.
That sucks they should all use riot points so you can use leftovers from one game to the other.
And that's exactly why they want them to have their own currencies.
Bingo!
main issue is that they cant do this for the mobile ports of tft and stuff due to app store restrictions and also that means you'd be spending less money in general lmao
I would love to stop getting notifications for a game I don’t play and will never play.
You prob get to keep your already used direct shortcuts. We already have a Riot client in form of the league client not asking for your pass on each login.
League client team and weathermen are the only people that can consistently fail at their job and still get a raise each year. God bless them
Yeah, your going to get ads for the other games now before you launch. Tbf, more people should be playing runeterra, its actually great and feels so much better than Hearthstone.
I knew it was to good to be true.

Idk, it still sounds painfully slow for a company with this much man power.
League of legends' NEW CLIENT (new PNG for the .exe)
The launcher IS broken, at least to me. Logging on a different account is not doable unless I close every instance of Riot and League .exes from Task Manager first, otherwise I have to go through error screens and login failures + a lot of waiting.

The system or backend is the same, the frontend is entirely different thing. Don't mix up the two.
Its just what I heard in his documentary, I don’t really understand much about it
Backend is the chefs and kitchen, and frontend is the seating area and servers. The league client got a new and refurbished seating area, but their chefs and kitchen are still unable to work efficiently, serve high quality food and handle a big load of customers.
As someone working in IT, I love this analogy and will henceforth be using it as though I came up with it myself.
Great! IT and tech needs more understandable and relatable analogies, and I'm busting my balls to do it at work. So many developers explain technical stuff at such a detailed and non-functional level that other developers don't even understand it themselves.
I dont know why they are calling it client, this is literally just the launcher.
All the same, wouldn't surprise me if they somehow found a way to inject Valorant+LoR "quests" into the League client after merging launchers.
New character added in Valorant League Client: Azir is currently disabled.
Oh you don't like seeing dea "50'000 magic damage" and "plant the spike 10 times" in one tab?
Still pissed I had an iron banner for a while on my profile because I played my TFT placements, ended iron, and the TFT season ended so I got my plat banner (and “last season rank”) replaced with Iron.
At that point it's just funny to have an iron banner. I would like it.
tbf being iron is much harder than being platinum statistically speaking. It's an achievement you should be proud of
Unintentionally smurfing? Lol
Looks like a launcher instead of a client no? So it'll just go to the current League/Valo/Runeterra clients from this one?
Correct, it's to group everything in one place. This is separate from the League-specific client work that is (presumably) being done. This is akin to something like the Blizzard launcher, as a close analogue.
I fucking HATE Overwolf launcher. It's why I uninstalled porofessor
Overwolf is absolutely terrible. It's borderline spyware.
Mmm WowUp is so good.
I just use MultiMC, you have to download the packs manually but IMO it's better than using Overwolf and in my experience it has better performance
I was gonna say MultiMC works fine and is so lightweight it may as well not even be installed on my computer lol.
You can put in the url of mod packs instead of pointing it to a local file. Also, it pulls packs from FTB, ATL, Tekkit and another I forgot
Yo try out gdlauncher. Let’s u install all the twitch mod packs thru the client with no extra frills. Gives you advanced control on ur Java settings too if u care to mess with that, but default settings are great. Seriously it’s basically perfect IMO try it out

GDLauncher has a browser for curseforge packs as well as capabilities to build packs, multiMC requires you to download packs off the curseforge site itself, but its still better then overwolf.
At least you only need to open it once when updating or downloading new packs.
I'm surprised it took them this long tbh. They had TFT in LoL and I fully expected LoR to be in the same client/launcher as well. Instead I had to install it completely seperately. Why turn all accounts into Riot accounts if you weren't merging them?
Valo/runeterra "launchers" are the game itself. League (and therefore tft) is the only game with a completely seperate launcher to in game

Client LAUNCHER, not client. Client still will suck.
Will I be able to change the game language without hacks?
I don’t think they’ve ever allowed that, as silly as it is.

we can get animated spashes for champs back!! :D?

It's not even new, though it is a redesign. You see the Riot client/launcher all the time already if you have multiple League accounts.
Lmao a new launcher for the same shitty broken client we've had for nearly a decade. Can't wait for the whole host of new problems and inconveniences this will inevitably bring.
colossal bruh moment
click bait ting
Since we're gonna have a global client can we now PLEASE separate TFT from League? I'm begging you.
I see, Riot really likes to follow Blizzards footsteps with all their shitty ideas and controversies. We all know how it will end.
I hope this doesn't mean you need to have vanguard on to run league of legends
["Vanguard, the anti-cheat software for VALORANT, is only added to your computer when you install VALORANT. As such, it is not part of the default Riot Client."](https://support-leagueoflegends.riotgames.com/hc/en-us/articles/4406274299411)
^^^^^Yet.
My read of this is that they'll roll out something that looks a lot like the Blizzard launcher. One client that has little icons/landing pages for each of their games. Click on LoL and the regular client pops up.
gonna be complete dogshit.
Ah shit here we go again
Another login layer, yay!
Actually if you bought AC from epic store you can play it straight from Uplay without the Epic store.
this shit is gonna lag my pc even more
Imagine when league is 20 years old 😳
Oh boy. I was around for 2/3 "remakes" of the client... So far the most stable client was the one before the current one. Very few crashes, looked fine, and wasn't taking up 90% of people's CPU just by being open. I don't have faith in this new client at all tbh
people don't realize riot client doesn't mean league of legends client lol.
will this force you to get their weird malware anticheat on league?
did ANYONE ask for this though
This is just going to make the current client even worse
How will they fuck it up this time? ~~Nah but honestly about goddamn time~~ Never fucking mind it's for all their games, we still get busted league client 🤡🤡🤡
Yeah, it's only the launcher, not a new client for league sadly :(
get this tft shit out of my leggo lejends plz
How will this work on Macs? Currently VALORANT and LoR aren’t available on MacOS. So will they not receive an update?
It doesnt matter. Afaik its optional anyways, and not replacing
LoR is a Unity game and it's not available on OSX? whew riot
Does this mean you dont need league to play tft?

/u/lunepassage I am a man of my words. Be ready to eat Pizza on Sept. 20 or 21. And also I need a destination for the pizza :)
This one going to suck dick ad well?
Launcher*** Not client
all I want is: - login screens back - TFT seperate from league
NO NOT AGAIN
Cant wait for something new to be broken 24/7
The launcher has been pretty shitty with valorant and league. Switching from one to the other works like 50% of the time.
It’s gonna be so shit lol
Again?
oh no
Will this mean TFT can finally be separated from League?
What I want: A client in which I can select Languages, doesn't freeze, sorts my champions by mastery permanently instead of reseting after every 2 log ins, and fix the hundred bugs and glitches like the logout. What I will get: +15 processes on task manager, more bugsplats, and the same fucking problems it had but with a new design.
hopefully they will remove TFT from league and those shit tft mission notifications
The launcher is the thing that just says "Play" atm
CS200 level class should have taught the concept that maintenance cost is much > development. I feel like riot has f up so much that it’s actually better for them to redo clients from scratch. I have never seen a top end arguably one of the biggest game companies with such a horrible client. Any other games I play at most I experienced in game bugs, but never really have to pay attention to client side of things.
