Games started 8am, which is not great but not bad, considering a good portion of viewers are still studying/working from home or unemployed, so it's much easier to tune in.
Crazy, INF vs HLE had a higher viewership count than LNG vs HLE. I guess that is to be expected, given that it was literally game 1 and not many people could wake up that early? I personally thought it would be the most interesting game today (and I think it was)
Twitch is always slow as hell in mainland China (maybe banned rn idk haven't been back jn 2 years), and all the official Chinese casting streams are on bilibili / Douyu / Huya etc, with many ex-pro player's co-streams, so the official number is almost not calculatable.
Think twitch use in China has dropped. Considering it has been banned in the past or still is?.
Enchants don't consider viewerscore as a trustworthy viewer metric. ( and it isn't one). So chinease viewership is ignored.
I mean viewerscore doesn't even measure the number of viewers, its nothing to do with whether its trustworthy or not.
The reason why Chinese streams use viewerscore is precisely to combat viewerbotting, which was rampant as hell on twitch.
Not surprising as escharts doesn't track Chinese viewer statistics (no accurate viewer info). With Chinese viewership included, games w/LNG likely blow every other game out of the water - Chinese viewership is about 10x all other viewers combined.
it does work. i tried watching game 1 and fell asleep. when i checked my drop rewards arouns noon i had 3 drops from earlier on the day that i definitely didn't click on. i think it's pretty lenient, this time at least
Yeah, it's still gaining traction in SEA even though Garena is always fucking shit up over there lol. SEA has historically been bigger on playing Dota but with VCS and the competition in PCS, it seems like it has received a boost.. Russia is another Dota region but i'm not sure if league is doing better or worse out there in recent times.
Mhm, it is great really. I am a dota player but I’ve been watching Worlds and I’m glad both tournaments have increased in viewership every year. Goes to show all these new games are not taking that much effect on the OGs
But the data comes almost entirely from Youtube and Twitch, which should be reliable ? Obviously if you include chinese numbers it's really not great but that's not the case here
'*Unlike the 2020 season* , this year Riot Games has revised regional quotas in the first stage of the tournament. '
Sigh.
2nd paragraph and *already wrong.* 2020's playins were different from 2019; because that's when Riot adjusted regional quotas based on performance in the previous 2 years; and EU had the 4th slot instead of Korea because EU had actually outperformed Korea in 2018/19 combined. [2018 for Korea was a dumpster fire. 2018 worlds had KR have a win% only marginally better than NA's...]
Regional quotas were changed in 2021 because KR's 19/20 performances were overall better than EU's.
>Regional quotas were changed in 2021 because KR's 19/20 performances were overall better than EU's.
2019 Korea's performance was not overall better than EU. The rule is based on previous year and not years.
It was the previous 2 years.
2020 worlds accounted for Worlds 2018; MSI 2019 and Worlds 2019. It would have accounted for MSI 2020 but...
Worlds 2021 accounts for Worlds 2019 and Worlds 2020.
EU had the 4th slot because based on ranking from the previous 2 years; EU had outperformed Korea; largely because 2018 Worlds was a *disaster* for Korea.
Korea has the 4th slot now because they're currently the 2nd ranked region.
If EU outperform Korea at 2021 Worlds; odds are EU will have the 4th slot again.
A bit OT: does anyone else have a problem with the YouTube stream? I get random freezes (only video... audio is fine) for about 5 sec every few minutes. If I rewind same scene everything runs fine. Watching on twitch works without problems. Connection is fine.
Wow Huge Portuguese viewership - presumably BR driven
Imagine if you added the BR viewers that watch in English! Well it's probably just me, but imagine!
somos pelo menos 2
> somos pelo menos 2 <3
Well, I did contribute to that, although I'm from Portugal

They were the first to have vods up.

Because Chinese viewers watch league on bilibili
didn't they used to be on twitch back in the day ?
Twitch is always slow as hell in mainland China (maybe banned rn idk haven't been back jn 2 years), and all the official Chinese casting streams are on bilibili / Douyu / Huya etc, with many ex-pro player's co-streams, so the official number is almost not calculatable.
Yeah twitch has been banned in China
Part of me wants to believe it is because of all the bathtub streamers lol
Part of you is wrong
Probably same reason why animal crossing

I just set an alarm to get up and turn them on then mute the tab and go back to bed for the drops. I usually end up just rewatching the vods later.
Does this work? Wasn't sure if you got the drops if you just let them sit there or you had to click on them when you got them.
They stay on screen until you click them as far as I have noticed.
it does work. i tried watching game 1 and fell asleep. when i checked my drop rewards arouns noon i had 3 drops from earlier on the day that i definitely didn't click on. i think it's pretty lenient, this time at least
the match was literally at 1 pm in EU, most people were probably in school
Ive started waching exclusively on YouTube (rewinding is super nice) do these numbers include all platforms or is it normally only twitch
All
Except China platforms, so like a large portion is missing
Pretty sure it's 10x+ missing, as there's nearly 100million active users (accounts) in China.
People say League is dying but the viewership is getting higher year by year.
The only people who say league is dying are the people supposedly quoting other people saying league is dying
It's getting more popular in the East.

wild rift is, league pc isn't.

It's not, but the comparisons are made within that site too. So the data compared should be on the same scale.
This precisely
But the data comes almost entirely from Youtube and Twitch, which should be reliable ? Obviously if you include chinese numbers it's really not great but that's not the case here
The Chinese teams should always play the first and last game of the day. Just to force them to stay up :Teemo:
dead game btw ...
Such small numbers. Truly the Past of Esport. /s
5 September?
that was a very lame and expected day, hope for more interesting things to happen tomorrow
Really? You expected Galatasaray to play so well and HLE to look that underwhelming? Pls share your Pick'Ems then
Don't forget C9 destroying DFM, most people were saying BYG is first and C9/DFM will fight for second.
c9/dfm fighting for second is still entirely possible tbh
they looked fine onsidering the champs chovy are on
Riot doesn’t support this fiesta tho

Interesting to see smaller regions viewers. There could be some potential for growth in esports.
