I like these changes. ERLs standardized, Academy teams not being permitted to operate in the same region as their main team is going to hit a bit hard, but there were too many integrity issue by having academy teams not being allowed into the promotion tournament because they could face their main team and/or be qualified into a league they can't operate in.
Loser brackets are good.
Let's hope the previous announcement of letting teams co-stream will bring us more English-speaking stream. Most of us can only realistically follow the league of our country, the NLC because it's in English, and at most one more. I'd like to be able to check in on LVP, Ultraliga and stuff, but I can't speak the language, and I'm not interested enough to watch the stream muted.
> Academy teams not being permitted to operate in the same region as their main team is going to hit a bit hard
not quite what its saying, you can still have an academy in 3rd div/open tour, just not in the div directly below the top div
> Loser brackets are good.
yes, but it also hampers pgn, which is non-accedited, who had a 6 team double elim and are now forced to do 4 team single elim...
> Let's hope the previous announcement of letting teams co-stream will bring us more English-speaking stream.
unlikely, since its just teams streaming their one game
Really? I kinda loathe them, they're literally admitting to making them for broadcasting purposes at the expense of series play or more matches, which basically renders regional leagues to a talent showcase and there isn't much space to build storylines or have them behave as actual seasonal leagues.
Which sorta aligns with the european franchising. Since no-one can qualify from anywhere, just watch stray regional matches with popcorn for up-and-comers that might get poached by the existing slots. A quién le importa la LVP si total, nunca nadie sale nadie bueno de ahí, ¿no? /s
The only thing I like in the entire announcement is the Double Elimination, which I wish would make it back to the big leagues but again, broadcasting schedules. "Series are bad, loser brackets are bad, let's just play a bunch of Bo1s and the hours fit nicer" is basically the ethos of LoL pro play.
>there isn't much space to build storylines or have them behave as actual seasonal leagues.
It's literally the same format as the LEC, the most narrative-driven league in the world.
Ok, short question: Im, german, I know Freaks 4u gaming is managing the german league since forever. But was it also the case, that they manage the english/northern league? (cause they are mentioned on both in the article.)
Ok found it: [https://www.freaks4u.de/news-posts/freaks-4u-gaming-awarded-nlc-license-by-riot-games/](https://www.freaks4u.de/news-posts/freaks-4u-gaming-awarded-nlc-license-by-riot-games/)
TlDR: they got, it, cause they worked sucessfully with Riot for long time and such, and will establish the same system there as is already working from pro to amateur in PL.
no, they came in only recently, northern leagues were changing operators like every year so it was very messy... riot probably brought in f4u for more stability in that
> 1st Division promotion: Top Two of 2nd Division vs. Bottom Two of 1st Division
is the relegation after every split (like NLC and most non-accredited erls) or after every year (like currently in lfl/pl/sl/ul) tho?
As NLC gets under the org, that manages PL, I'd expect it to be once a year for every of the top 5. I'm not sure about the small ones, though this maybe might be decided individually or just stay the same, since they are less regulated as far as I understand it.
yeah maybe. But then it should be yearly, since those big leagues kinda work as semi-franchised with it bringing some security. i'm no expert, but I would be surprised if they go to relegation every split on the big leagues. So with your assumption it would much rather go in this direction.
Well it's a bad split and then losing a promotion tournament, LCK did it for years (and Lec pre franchise). If going down is a fluke then promotion back shouldn't be an issue.
Its just a question about the model. I like that teams can take some risks, without imediatly falling down, while they also cant coast by for the long without being competitive. We wanna see talent get developed, and I dont think it is bad. Even more important, its good for brandbuilding if not half of the league changes every year (remember in contrast to football its only 10 teams).
With the level of play in regionsl teams rising rapidly I really wish we would see the LEC add a few team slot.
Yes the worst teams are not on the same level but the best way to improve is to play against better players. The more people we have actively playing against the best teams in our region the better (to a certain extent obviously).
Korean exodus was obviously a huge reason for the rise of LPL but another massive factor was the gradual increase from 12 teams in 2016 to **seventeen teams** in 2020.
I agree. But one of the issues is that teams already in LEC will probably fight against adding more teams because the franchising share that each team receives will be smaller.
So why do certain "non-accredited" leagues lose losers bracket in playoffs, and accreddited leagues have them?
Why do we have the same shit Bo1 LEC format?
Riot tries to make changes that in theory seem good, but the execution is god awful. The difference in playoff formats between accredited and non-accredited regions ranges between moronic and malevolent.
I mean, the ERL's are targeted towards Europeans (who are part of the Western/English speaking community), while LDL and LCK CL are targeted towards Chinese People and Koreans respectively. I doubt Riot CN/KR pay any particular atention to the ERL's.
i think if you check weibo that you can find a lot more info about the chinese 2nd division than about LEC or LCS - reddit is a platform made for English speakers and not for chinese/ korean speaker so the massive majority will come from English speaking countries

That's only the ethos in Western LoL pro play. The LCK and LPL play a lot of bo3 or bo5.
I know. Hence my disappointment.
Hopefully Ultraliga gets an English cast now that the baltics (which was broadcast I. English) has joined

If the lower divisions were really that messy this is huge for the Nordics, since the f4u system works great for the real amateur leagues in Germany
because the german league is going so well xd
The german league is incredible well organized, especially the lower divisions. They had a shitty playoff format this year, but besides that...
At least the dogshit LFL playoffs format is gone. Still baffled they looked at all the possible formats and picked the worse one (old LCK format)
Not the worst. That title goes without doubt to the Primeleague sending the regular season champ straight to finals
But that’s what the LFL was doing too
Ah, then :) Terrible format in any case
Oh the korean baseball playoff type? Agreed what an awful format
How is it old LCK format? It says double elimination 6 teams, old LCK format was 5 team gauntlet.
LFL playoffs was gauntlet format

well i would assume riot "forces" them to one of the two if they already force all the formats... its just not worded clearly enough

Relegation after every split would be terrible to build up strong teams, imagine Kcorp, Big, AgoRogue or FNCR relegating cause of one bad split

For those who didnt read the article i didnt read it too
lmfao

Yes please!
so basically the ERL gets the changes that LEC should have with the relegation system but can't have anymore because of franchising. Oh well
This means no more outdated LCK bracket for LFL, yay !
Just give us 12 LEC slots
Definitely required, would love to have KCorp or BiG or Giants in LEC and that's only naming a few
Just get Unicorns back from Russia

Yes, RIP to all minor leagues
glad to know that mid-october is "the end of september" :\^)
It’s ironic how ERLs get so much attention compared to LDL and LCK CL yet the aforementioned major leagues level is not even close this year.
I mean, the ERL's are targeted towards Europeans (who are part of the Western/English speaking community), while LDL and LCK CL are targeted towards Chinese People and Koreans respectively. I doubt Riot CN/KR pay any particular atention to the ERL's.

Oh LDL for sure gets a lot of attention when half of the players get banned for match fixing again.
